I’m disappointed with this place our lunch took over 40 mins to come to the table. We ordered panini’s with spicy chicken & 2 kids meals when it finally arrived at the table there was hardly any filling in any of our panini’s. The kids chicken nuggets and chips were disgusting that the kids didn’t even eat them. I said to the staff member about this as the meal was £55 I felt the meal was very expensive for such poor quality. I will not be returning to this cafe.

We went for lunch here whilst on holiday - we had been to the swimming pool and seemed to be the only place open on a Sunday to eat. Initial impressions going in was that the place wasn’t very clean - table and underneath didn’t appear to have been wiped / hoovered since previous customer. 2 cheese toasties which were basic and came with crisps only, I ordered kids fish but they brought an adult one , macaroni and chips too. Chips were undercooked, fish was very greasy , kids had milkshakes and we had a soft drink, cost us £53 which I felt was a total rip off.

Terrible food. Had fish and chips. Was 12.50 each to take away which is quite expensive. Would have swallowed the price is you could have swallowed the food. Soggy, greasy, bland batter on the fish and chips were frozen not fresh. Avoid.

The staff were so so friendly and lovely but the food was not. We just had chips which is pretty hard to get wrong but somehow they did. Really lovely, welcoming people but I wouldn't go back.

I came here on holiday with my family, we decided that we would try out some of the different restaurants in Bowmore. We thought we would go to The Cottage cafe as it had my children’s favourite, chicken nuggets. Me and my wife ended up having beef burgers and we were surprised to find out that my burger was not cooked all the way and that the chips were undercooked too. Then we payed for our lunch, £62 which I thought was a bit over priced. A while later after we got back to the hotel I started to feel sick and was in the bathroom for what seemed like forever throwing up. The only good thing about this place was that the staff was nice. Will not be returning!!!

Me and my family came here on holiday and decided that we would go from restaurant to restaurant as we where staying for over a week. We ended here at The Cottage cafe in Bowmore. My kids aged (5 to 9yrs) got chicken nuggets and chips ( £6.50 × 2) and me and my boyfriend had beef burgers ( £12.50 × 2)and chips ( £4 × 4). This came to about £62 but we added it up and it should have been £56 so we have been over charged. When we got back to the hotel I started to feel sick and was in the bathroom for what felt like forever. The only good thing about this place is that the staff is polite and nice. Will not be returning!!!!

Different cooks and staff, food was awful to the point of being inedible. Might have hit a bad day but even so rather pricey. Don’t think we’ll be back sadly

Terrible. We went on a Saturday night for a take away. Only option for kids was chicken nuggets and chips, settled on a fish supper for them to share, chips and chips with curry sauce. The fish was burnt and I'm not exactly sure what the chips were but tasteless springs to mind. There isn't many take away places to choose from I would avoid this one!

Great little unpretentious cafe on Main Street. Open for breakfasts, lunches, and early evening. Good selection of freshly made soups, sandwiches and home baking, as well as fish and chips, burgers etc., and cooked breakfasts. Also check the board for specials. Also good if you just want teas, coffees, cakes, ice creams. Family run, friendly and welcoming and great value.

A humble cafe offering excellent food, a really warm and friendly atmosphere, really convenient in the centre of Bowmore, going back tomorrow.

We can’t praise this place enough. They took on a table of 10 with no problem (without a booking at lunchtime) - with 6 children aged 3-11 years. Very warm welcome as we had just arrived on the island. Quick and really delicious food. Perfect for families. The scampi was so fresh and tasty. Thank you superstars. Definitely worth a visit and conveniently in the centre of Bowmore with lots of parking nearby.

We enjoyed freshly cooked very fresh fish and chips from the Cottage Cafe. We thought the cost was entirely reasonable for an island setting. Our recommendation is to take an insulated bag with you for the food, not forgetting the complimentary condiments at the till and take the short walk to the seats in the harbour and enjoy the food al fresco, always the best way to enjoy fish and chips. Thank you for your service.

As Bowmore is rather lacking in restaurant tables at the moment, due to COVID restrictions, we had fish and chips for tea one evening from The Cottage. The fish was very fresh and tasty, the batter lovely. My husband said the chips were good, but the portion was not large. Very pricey.

£11 for two small portions of unseasoned chips, two sausages and the most tasteless curry sauce we have ever had. Please get the basics right.

On a rather damp afternoon we were looking for somewhere for a warming drink and something to eat. Having been shown to a table the waiter then spent the next ten minutes on the phone and ignored us completely. Eventually we left never to return.

Grim dive occupied by losers. Scared of anyone that isn’t local corrupting their gene pool. Would recommend avoiding if you aren’t attracted to members of your own family.

We visited early Sunday evening for a curry. Service could not have been better - friendly, cheerful and quick but unhurried. We had chicken tikka bahar (like a masala) and my partner had a jalfrezi style curry. The sag aloo was also yummy. Poppadums came with homemade unusual chutneys which were great, very tasty indeed. Cobra Lager nicely chilled - we would happily return again. Bill was extremely reasonable, too. Highly recommend!

Absolutely delicious food and such a warm welcome from the delightful staff especially our waiter who had only just started and had come from Peru. Sorry, I can't remember the name of our waiter but he was utterly charming and attentive. We will be back and would recommend The Grey Gull 100%
