What a great pub! Atmosphere was great due to some live music on which was excellent. Lovely food and drink, staff very knowledgeable about the menu to help choose. Would recommend!

From the initial enquiry through to the event itself, all the staff were so friendly, courteous and helpful. We were so impressed by the catering also, every need was met (gluten free, dairy free and vegan options all included without issue) and it arrived perfectly at the time we requested which was amazing for our event. We went for the pizza and fries option and everyone raved about the food. The event space is lovely with plenty of room, even for a band, a bar and lots of seating too, so pretty with the fairy lights too - we didn't need to add many decorations. All our guests had a fantastic time, we'd recommend the cornerhouse to anyone wanting to host an event in Chester!

The Cornerhouse is a nice environment to go for a pint and a Sunday dinner. The staff are friendly and the surroundings are really pleasant. Also the quiz night on Sunday is very well done. It helps that we just won it! 😂 A good Sunday night out! 😄

Visited Chester for the weekend. Booked a table via text with really quick response. Both enjoyed Sunday roast (mixed with 3 meats) with delicious accompaniments. Friendly staff, affordable, quick service and everything tasted fresh and homemade. Ideal! ....and bonus points for the framed The Smiths 12' record by the bar!

The Cornerhouse is brilliant friendly and welcoming place. The staff are professional, efficient and customer focused. There are seating areas to suit everyone, the food looks amazing, the cleanliness is top notch. The best I have visited in a long time. Absolutely gorgeous Sunday Roast today. We had the mixed meat plate with pork & lamb. Lovely homemade yorkshire pudding, fresh vegetables including tenderstem broccoli, carrots, parsnips, red cabbage, mangetout & a side of cauliflowers cheese, the best I've ever tasted! The roast potatoes were so gorgeously Crispy on the outside & fluffy on the inside & served with homemade sausage stuffing. Just beautiful. All the staff were so helpful. We were sharing this as not overly hungry & the chef offered to plate it up on 2 separate plates. I'm glad we did share as it was plenty for both of us! Lovely atmosphere with chilled music & a variety of seating including a comfy chair & sofa which we managed to get. Thankyou for a very chilled & gorgeous experience.

I popped in here just after arriving to chester, I needed a coffee and the coffee was lovely. Customer service is great, they bring everything to you and are really helpful. A little expensive. But overall a really nice place to visit

Friendly staff and clientele and an intriguing array of beers to boot. You’re assured of a warm welcome from the owner. I couldn’t make my mind up and he gave a taste of a couple of lagers that I was unsure about. One was great Well worth a visit on many levels.

Must remember they do CAMRA reductions!!

I had a function in their private party room, and everyone had a fantastic time! It was my first time trying something like this, and the coordinator was incredibly helpful. She handled all my questions with quick responses, and the staff on the night were so friendly and fabulous. The room was spacious and had a great atmosphere, especially with the fairy lights on. We could start decorating from 12pm that day, and even the staff downstairs were willing to assist us with our decorations - including a tricky helium bottle! My partner and I opted for their £12 per person buffet option, which was beautifully presented on the night. Guests really enjoyed the venue and the food. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for somewhere to host a party!

When visiting Chester I always call at the Cornerhouse and tonight was no exception. Live music and amazing staff. Due to an incident with a customer at the bar a male member of staff walked me to my hotel 2mins away. The courtesy and customer care was phenomenal, thank you.

I recently booked out the function space upstairs at the cornerhouse and I was immensely impressed with how it all turned out, starting with the team that took the booking, they were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable whilst also helping me to understand the limits of the venue. The space itself is beautifully prepared but we were still able to add to it to make the night more personalised, the team that look after you for the night were really helpful and had the night run smoother. I also organised food (all vegan) for the party through them and was blown away not only by the selection of food but the quality and presentation. I would highly recommend booking any upcoming events here, you won't be let down!

Great place for decent real ale and the odd band

My Boss and I usually nip in once or twice a week for a couple of afternoon pints. There's a very impressive range of beers to choose from, including a fine selection of cask ales. The service is very warm and friendly, and the price is right.

Have been visiting Cornerhouse for drinks and music for years. Only recently found out that they started serving Sunday lunches. Called in last weekend for a Sunday lunch and it was excellent. Roast potatoes and cauli cheese were especially good. Along with friendly staff and a couple of well-kept pints - we had a lovely afternoon.

Since my review in 2022, my wife & I continue to visit this hostelry on a regular basis. It has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, continues to have a good selection of beers, lagers, wines and more. We really enjoy the Mezze platters, but if I am honest they do seem to have reduced in size as the price has (understandably) risen. Nevertheless, we like it here very much and will continue to frequent often.

Nice bar with a good selection of drinks. Had an interesting menu for food, and I wish I had time to try, so I will visit in the future. Friendly staff and space out front for sitting or standing if part of large group.

I recently shot a party in the function room. The staff were amazing and so friendly. And the food was on another level! The couple who hired me said that the food was one of the most important things to them, and that The Cornerhouse was renowned for their sharing boards. They were NOT wrong!!

Visited this place on a night away in Chester. Popped in to check out the live music and was pleasantly surprised. Good staff, beer selection etc. The band (Jacob's Ladder) were great too and we stayed in there for a good couple of hours. Will definitely return when in the area

Good pizza some good beers. Unfortunately one of the IPAs tasted of vinegar barman dismissed this stating they’ve all just been changed nothing wrong with it and walked away. Disappointed rude poor service poor attitude. So expect the occasional bad pint and no recompense.

A lovely period building and bar that is very popular so if you are planning to eat there pop in or text/call in to book a table. This bar offers some unique beers and lagers that I’d never heard of before but they are well worth trying I know I was surprisingly impressed. The staff here are very friendly and helpful and professional. As a member of the LGBT+ community I felt very welcome and very safe.

A really nice pub, situated between the railway station and the city centre. Good selection of drinks, friendly staff. Toilets spotlessly clean.

Loved our Saturday night at the Corner House. The bar has a really great atmosphere and all of the staff were great! We couldn't decide what on the menu sounded tastier so to avoid getting food envy we ended up having a meat and cheese platter, a pizza, and a baked camembert - and they were all absolutely delicious! The selection of wine was excellent and the wine / platter deal is great value for money! We have already booked a table for another Saturday night soon! Thank you!

Absolutely love this venue! We held a 60th birthday party in the function room upstairs and couldn’t have been happier with everything from start to finish! Thank you so much to Sophie for making it so easy to organise and the bar staff who were allocated to work upstairs with our party (wish I knew their names!) were so friendly and welcoming, making it such an enjoyable evening! Will definitely be recommending to friends and family and hopefully will return x

Great pub. Opened up, woody, quirky. Real ales on. Cappuccino stout was lovely. Good range of lagers and bottles, including Duvel. Haven't tried the food but the range of platters looks very appealing. Half a bottle of port and a platter, £40. Great idea.

Great wee bar. Not that wee actually, plus outside seating (not on a hilly April thanks). Didn't try any vanilla spiced rum but had a laugh with the unponytailed barman about it. Here for the real ale only, which was very good. Interesting and varied snack food range. Recommended.

Held my 40th birthday party at the Cornerhouse function room on Saturday 13th April 2024. Everything in the build up to the party went really smoothly thanks to prompt replies and email comms with Sophie. The staff on the night were absolutely fantastic and so accommodating. Would highly recommend the CornerHouse for any function you may be considering.

Great room hire for a party..used the room upstairs for family Birthday party. Staff were great, room perfect for what we needed. We also booked food for party which was really good. Venue will also help you source music, djs etc. Would definitely recommend, we also go here for night outs listening to the live music great place to go for night out, or for a few casual beers.

Attended our friend's daughter's 21st. Lovely room upstairs, staff very friendly, food and booze good. Our friends said the venue was organised and helpful over the party arrangements. Great night and recommended.

We held a 50th birthday party in the upstairs functions room. The hosts could not have been more helpful. Advising on food (they provided a wonderful buffet) and live music acts. We had plenty of access to decorate the room and the layout was ideal for the c70 guests who attended. Great value.

Such a perfect place! We went to listen to the live music on a Friday with group of friends and family. Bar staff were excellent and super friendly, great atmosphere, and great range of beers, wine and snacks. Can highly recommend the platters.

I regularly come to The Cornerhouse but found myself here last Friday evening and was particularly impressed. Around half 5, complimentary canapés were brought round on platters like they do in Spain or Italy. It was a really nice touch with the staff chatting to everyone as they offered the food around. There were locals known by name but also tourists too. It all made for a very welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. Will certainly be back for Friday nibbles, especially if they serve their balsamic pickled onions!

What a great spot! As a family of five plus four legged friend, we often struggle with places to go that are relaxed, family friendly AND serve great food and top quality drinks. The cornerhouse ticks all of those boxes for us. The service was superb and it was lovely sat next to the fire whilst the children played with the board games. I have since been back a couple of girl friends for the Quiz night which was such a laugh! Would absolutely recommend!

Free live music every Friday and Saturday and they serve til late making it a fantastic night out. Always a great range of beers and wine and the food is fantastic too. Went a while back on a Sunday afternoon when they do an amazing roast dinner and followed it up with the pub quiz. Tempted to only give 4 stars because I was robbed on the quiz, I said Marlin instead of Sailfish but THAT'S WHAT I MEANT. Anyway, fantastic pub.

I have visited the Cornerhouse on several occasions. As a couple, with family visiting from Australia and with friends. The live music brings such a wonderful atmosphere, and I thoroughly enjoy seeing people from all walks of life here smiling and having fun. If you want a friendly place to visit, for wonderful food and lovely drinks then I highly recommend the Cornerhouse. Oh and don’t miss poetry corner…it makes me smile everytime I read it.

Zero Customer Service My wife and I visited the Cornerhouse whilst out in Chester with friends. Our drinks order included two spiced rum, but unfortunately we were served VANILLA FLAVOURED spiced rum (the taste is totally different and very unpleasant) I asked nicely if the drinks could be changed and was told in a very condescending manner that ‘I got what I ordered’ and they would not change the drinks! The manager Ben was very arrogant and rude. I asked again if the drinks could be replaced but he just dismissed me and started to dance, laugh and basically ignore me, which I found very offensive. I did attempt to record this on my mobile phone. I then ordered two vodka and cokes and explained that they should be free to resolve the issue and I would not pay for them. The manager Ben then became very aggressive and took the drinks away. Other members of our party tried to reason with him and explain that this is not the way to treat customers but we were just told to drink up and not come back again. I found Ben to be very arrogant and obnoxious, he certainly didn’t seem happy doing his job. He made a mistake with the drinks order and should of explained the difference in the rums before serving them. If he had done this we would of ordered alternative drinks. I have also found Sophie, the owner of the Cornerhouse, to be very condescending and dismissive in her response to this matter. Indeed, accusing our group of racism, theft, intimidation, being spoilt, drunk, unpleasant, harassment, sneering, bullying and vile behaviour. We were in the Cornerhouse for less than 30 minutes and only asked for two of our drinks to be changed!! Check out the other reviews for this place, Sophie and Ben should not be working in this line of business, they have no customer or management skills. We left and went to ‘The Old Harkers Arms’ on the canal and what a refreshing change. The staff were so polite and engaging, lovely ambience to the place and they even got the drinks order correct! I now expect the same fabricated reply from Sophie that my wife received when she posted her review! Sophie is always right…….

One of the best music venues in Chester, great for functions upstairs and great beers and food!

The roast dinner is absolutely delicious. Came for Mother’s Day dinner and stayed for the quiz. Customer service was brilliant. I had the beef and cheese board which was exceptional and the service by Ben was brilliant. Perfect end to Mother’s Day.

Went for a drink to this pub with friends on Sunday evening and very disappointed with the way we were treated. We clearly clashed with the start of a quiz night which appears to a "closed clique" with new comers obviously not welcomed and all tables reserved! The bar man was downright rude but for the pub, they missed out on a group of 7 who would have eaten and stayed for several drinks. I would avoid this pub, particularly on Sunday evenings when itcwould clearly be better if they closed to the public?

We hired out the function room for a 40th birthday, and it was so so lovely. Sophie was very helpful, and we organized it pretty last minute so I was very very appreciative. I had so many great comments about the place, definitely recommend and will absolutely be back for more.

Rude, arrogant, obnoxious, so called Manger Ben (odd looking guy with silly pony tail)! My husband and I were out with four friends enjoying an evening in Chester We called into the Corner House and ordered a round of drinks which included two spiced rum and coke. When we tasted the drinks, we had been given vanilla, spiced rum, which tasted sickly and nothing like a normal spiced rum! When we asked politely if we could change these two drinks his attitude totally changed. We were told we ordered spiced rum and that's what we got, although it tasted of a sickly vanilla flavour. He refused to change the drinks and began dancing and pulling faces from behind the bar. He was basically gouding us to provoke a reaction. We ordered two vodka and coke to replace these drinks and refused to pay. He then came running from behind the bar and snatched these drinks from us. Two members of our group spoke to him to explain that his attitude was totally out of order and his management skills were very poor, we were then told to drink up and leave immediately. Not sure if he was on drugs or some type of medication as his behaviour was very strange to say the least. The other staff seemed to play along with him, laughing as if it was some sort of joke. Not sure if they were scared of him as he did have a very firey temper! Will be taking this further and contacting the owners. He spoilt, what had been a lovely evening out.

Came here for a wedding reception recently and they smashed it. Food and drink was great and the staff were really friendly and helpful!

Tuesday 29th August 2023 This lovely chester Ale house had a lovely bar staff on today. When we visited, it had 4 good hand pumped ales on it and has a comfortable interior to it I can't comment on food, but I did not eat The beer I had was grand also A pub I would use again when in Chester Saturday 10th February 2024 This great pub we revisited tonight after watching Bradford City stuff Wrexham This is a great city Centre real ale pub Lively friendly place and its beers on hand pump as always are lovely

We hired the first floor function room for my wife's birthday for 75 friends and family. Communications with Sophie around arranging venue hire, food, drinks and entertainment were great and she made sure we had thought of everything. They were really flexible about us arranging our own band, DJ and decorations, and we had plenty of access to set up before the event. The drinks menu was really good and we were able to pre-order bottles of wine, rather than paying by the glass which was appreciated. Similarly there were plenty of food options. We chose the pizzas, which were cooked on site and were brought out at a pre-arranged time... really good and lots of options. The staff were friendly and due to the regular comms around numbers attending, there were plenty on hand to ensure that nobody waited long to be served. Overall great venue, great food and drinks, great staff and great value.

Great bar with fine ales, live music Friday and Saturday where you can throw your shapes, just so long as you don't mind the odd video being posted on social media 🙄

Just moved into Chester and found the CornerHouse nearby - and what a find! The friendliest pub, delicious food, beer is good, staff are welcoming, and the only place to be for great live entertainment.

Great place, live music Fri and Sat nights, also a few board games available to fill some time on a quite wet day in January.

Went there Friday on a pub crawl. 5 of us managed to get a seat and the live music was great.
