The Cooper Rose in Sunderland

Unfortunately the bar service here has deteriorated massively. It must be costing the company a fortune. Had my friends not already ordered I would have left. Behind the bar were a number of staff but only 2 were serving customers at the bar. The remaining staff were all working at the bottom of the bar dealing with app orders. It's a very long bar and with only 2 staff working it they did not know who was next. People would walk up to the bar long after you'd stood there , and be served. I would have used the app myself but couldn't get a signal in the bar. Unfortunately the 2 staff serving were also extremely slow, despite there not being much of a queue. We waited ages to get served when there wasn't many people waiting, so on a busy night I wouldn't even bother. If you don't have the app or it's not working properly I'd give this bar a miss. It looked like a lot of other people felt the same as this once busy bar was noticeably quiet for a weekend night. Whoever is in charge of the bar needs to sort out proper training for the staff. I've never experienced service as bad as this in any other wetherspoons I've been in. If at all possible, use the app or you'll lose the will, watching other customers stroll to the bar while you wait, wait then wait some more

Weatherspoons never fails for great value and great food. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Calorie info excellent to help make great choices. Coffee tastes as good as in Turin! Great staff

Came here on July 24th. Lovely outdoor roof terrace. Pity about the food and toilet experience. Went to toilet cubicle - on pulling up my trousers discovered they were wet - was horrified. Checked the cubicle next to me and there was obviously a plumbing issue as there was a caution wet floor sign. Obviously this had leaked into my cubicle. Said to a staff member who said he would check it out. Saw him leave the toilet and walk straight past me with no explanation. Absolutely horrified and left immediately. Disgusted

fish and chips was missing fish , batter was nice , chips were there but not very many ,peas were on the plate ; and the drinks were dearer than the wetherspoons 200 yds away (jamesons)

Absolutely the worst breakfast I’ve ever had toast not even turned slightly brown bacon tasted char grilled the pan must have been that dirty fried egg that was more like a lump of rubber never again

Ordered the Gourmet Steak , without mushroom with extra peas and a side order of coleslaw ….Meal arrived pretty quick but it had no onion rings and no extra peas so had to catch one of the waitresses to tell her ….I ordered my steak medium rare but it was cooked medium , no one came to check back on my meal . Quite disappointed .

I would advise anyone ordering at the bar to check what you're being charged Lately the service at the bar seems to have deteriorated. I drink the same drink everytime I'm in there and was asked for nearly £2 more than it should be. After disputing this I was told 3 times that was the correct price before the barman finally accepted I was correct. If possible I recommend ordering on the app so you don't get overcharged. It's a shame, because it's a good bar with a wide range available.

Food was nice, however staff are incredibly rude. Lost my ID so was unable to drink, that’s fine. However when my friend (opposite me) had his drink near me, a member of staff asked me for ID again. I told her I only have a picture of my passport and the drink was not mine. She proceeded to comment rudely “so he has three drinks?” I nodded as my friend had ordered a pitcher and could not drink it all herself. She proceeded to say “if any of my colleges catch you drinking it, it will be taken off you”. The part i’m upset about is the attitude, i understand not having any form of physical ID with me will most likely not get me a drink, however the rudeness of the servers is astonishing. I’m simply a 20 year old women who lost her ID but got treated like to a child trying to drink underage. Sort it out please. Other types of attitude are servers slamming plates and drinks down and having no customer service skills whatsoever.

We visited just for just a couple of drinks however we read the menu and both decided on the lemon chicken. And we were pleased to say it was wonderful we don’t usually eat here as it’s usually bland but this was an exception would definitely recommend this dish. Well done and what a lovely day on the sun roof.

Absolutely love coming here for food & drinks. It's lovely up on the roof a nice relaxing pleasant atmosphere feels like you're on holiday I like the hot drink station so you don't have to go downstairs for a refil

We have visited the establishment on three occasions when we have visited Sunderland for the half marathon. The place is a great place with great prices for drinks. Unfortunately on my recent visited on bank holiday Monday for breakfast the food was very poor. The breakfast was barely warm. I did eat all but really should of let staff know earlier. After meal I explained that they might want to tell chef that food was not warm at all incase anyone else complains as knee someone had complained before me about how food was cooked. The server was very happy to offer me another meal free of charge but I did already have a large meal so didn’t want another one. I am noticing more at spoons that the breakfasts are not as good as they used to be as they are not hot enough which is a shame as the drink prices Are great

Beware one particular bar person tried to charge me and My four friends £13.49 for five half's of larger we questioned this but told us it was right with I thought it was disgusting so cancelled the order and got another member of staff to do,the order and it was £7.50 so a big difference ee did speak to the manager Lee who told us he would.have a word with him but I think not k

Today I visited The Cooper Rose in Sunderland and ordered a BBQ chicken panini and drink for £8.01 with Mexican Rice. At the last moment I selected a small plate pizza from the menu and cancelled the order for the Panini (indecisive I know). However I checked the order and before pressing pay, the pizza and drink were clearly showing in the basket. About 15 minutes later the panini arrived complete with what could only be described as very dry looking microwave rice floating in water. I said that I had changed the order to a pizza and the waiter suggested I speak to the manager at the bar. I spoke to a Team Leader at the bar who simply shrugged her shoulders and said "you got what you ordered, we have had no problems with the app." When I explained that I had taken the panini out of the basket and replaced it with a pizza she was standoffish, spoke over the top of me and refused to correct the order to what I had ordered insisting it is "your mistake" whilst standing with her hands on her hips and rolling her eyes. Upon checking the order it did show the panini had been ordered, however the pizza was still showing in the basket, at this point she asked to see my credit card transactions to verify what I was saying (sorry I'm not about to show my transaction history to a random bar-maid in Sunderland). She then went to speak to the manager and clearly only offered one side of the story to him before coming back and saying, "you have got what you ordered and we are not changing it." At this point I said I was tired of her attitude and requested to speak to the manager to which she tried to convince me this was pointless because he would tell me the same. Again I persisted, before she flounced off, rolled her eyes and said "for god sake." The manager came out and from the outset his demeanour was completely different, he was professional and explained the situation from their point of view. I therefore showed the manager the process I had used in the app for ordering and he agreed that there was the potential for an error to be made as it was a Wetherspoon advert that prompted me to change my order at the last moment. He therefore agreed to provide a full refund, and upon checking the receipt he has also very kindly refunded the pint which I had already drank. Had the team leader had explained it in the same manner without talking to me like I was a drunken 14 year old, I would probably have accepted that I had made a mistake and got on with my day. Standing arguing the toss with me on my lunch hour with your arms either folded or your hands on your hips whilst rolling your eyes isn't going to get me to back down particularly when there's a 50% chance it wasn't my error. Get her on a customer service course before she embarrasses herself and Wetherspoons further.

Standard spoons. Ordered from app to Include extra cheese - had four discussions with waitress and provided evidence of having paid but still did not appear as “kitchen was busy” . My friend found paper in his food! Onion Rings were a bit off too! However, we decided to talk to the duty manager and she was great in how she dealt with our issues and the training opportunity. Thank you Sal for your professionalism.

Unfortunately didn't have any fruit to have with porridge three mornings in a row! Also no gammon on steak night! Plenty of space even though busy. Staff helpful. Toilets clean. No problems with rowdy customers.

Outstanding customer service and excellent food and drinks extremely reasonably priced. Excellent and lovely team of people who go above and beyond. The place is absolutely spotless and has an amazing team of cleaners. My absolute favourite place to go.

It's absolutely beautiful up here on the rooftop terrace had a lovely breakfast in the sunshine. Felt like we were on holiday

Now, I have had the fish and chips from here before without complaint but last night we ordered two large fish and chips and what came out was a curled up slab of batter with hardly any fish in it. When I say curled up mine was literally standing on its edge! Bloody awful. If we weren't in such a hurry I'd have sent it back. You just lost our custom.

It had been over a year since I ate in The Cooper Rose. I was shocked at how different my most recent experience was. After struggling to find a clean table, we picked a sticky one that had dirty cups on and moved them aside. We noticed that the side area next to the table was full of dust (everywhere was dirty). There was a queue as the place seemed understaffed, the poor guy behind the bar was rushed off of his feet. When I was finally served, I was informed that the Pepsi was from the fridge. I assumed it was an individual bottle but it was large bottles of Pepsi poured into pint glasses, this was annoying as it was still the same price. I did feel sorry for the bar man as he had grief for this (from others) and it was clearly not his fault. After ordering food a waitress approached our table and literally threw down our cutlery onto the really dirty side of table beside the used filthy cups. She said, “I dunno who’s having what?”Without giving us a chance to speak she slammed both plates down on the table and immediately turned her back and walked away. I was shocked at the lack of manners and inability to do the basic requirements of her job (she never returned to ask if we needed anything, or how the meal was either). The food was unsatisfactory. One of our meals was a cheese panini and we wondered if the kitchen had run out of cheese. I honestly couldn’t believe how appalling our visit was and will definitely not return.

A pleasant experience in a very modern, clean pub. We only had drinks but there was a good selection and the bar staff were very efficient and friendly. Perhaps next time we will have something to eat?

I am absolutely disgusting the way my friend was treated in your pub it was embarrassing and she done nothing wrong it’s recorded on tiktok and I hope the woman who treated my friend this way is dealt with accordingly

Staff is rude and highly homophobic! There attitude and conduct towards a young girl while on a tiktok live in there was beyond horrendous, called other pubs in the city spreading lies then there staff members were in the wrong and not the girl videoing the whole incident! Ridiculous to watch! STAY CLEAR!!!!

We called in here the other evening. The first visit since it reopened. We were just going to have a drink but my partner suggested we had something to eat. I wasn't sure because I've had some dodgy meals in similar places. But I said ok. Ham eggs and chips. It came quickly but that was the only good point. The chips were just warm and the eggs were nearly cold. When I have food I like it hot. Especially fried eggs. Yes I should have complained at the time but we just wanted a quick bite and we had a bus to catch. I didn't want to wait for another meal. And I know its cheap and I don't expect a Cordon Bleu meal but I expect better than what I got. So the Cooper Rose is fine for drinks. But I doubt I will bother with the food again.

After ordering beans on toast from the menu - “cold beans on cold toast with butter on the side” ?!? I spoke to Sarah who then brought me hot toast with butter and hot beans in a bowl - perfect breakfast. Thank you again Sarah

I visited the Cooper Rose on Sunday 25/4 around 19.00pm for drinks, I must say how flexible and accommodating the Duty Manager was during these trying times, I understand things are hard at the moment and space is difficult but she couldn’t of done anymore to help us,above and beyond is all I can say. I write this having had a few very bad experiences over the last week in other premises (not weatherspoons I may add) Rigid rules with no use of common sense or customer service. I have personally visited many Weatherspoons around 200 at last count all around the country and other countries.You should be very proud how well you are handling things and the way you are able to adapt. Well done from me.

I visited mid August and was charged for drinks I didn't receive. Despite making three complaints and being promised a call from the manager, I still have had no response and they still haven't refunded my money! Terrible customer service.

We went to the establishment for tea and drinks on Friday night and also had breakfast on the Saturday morning. Drinks are well priced for spoons. The meals we had were pizza and chips on the night and that was tasty. We also had two large breakfasts on the Saturday morning which was filling just could of been slightly warmer. Only thing which might concern people was there was no checking who was sitting with who. Being in tier 2 you are only supposed to sit with family but most tables had groups of friends sitting with each other. Some lads did get told off for not wearing masks when wandering and mixing tables but you could sit with anyone.

Came across this pub and went in with my daughter for lunch. Due to covid I had to download the app to order, unfortunately the WiFi was too slow, it wasn’t a bother as I had data but could be an issue for some. We didn’t wait long for the drinks and food to arrive at our table and the staff were friendly.The food was good and plentiful. I will definitely return.

Where is the social distancing. there are groups of young lads still sharing tables who don't live together and you cant keep a metre from people smoking in the doorway.

Impressed with all the procedures in place yesterday but not happy with my meal Tuesday is steak day here n my steak came cooked rare when I’d asked for well done the staff were great n took it back unfortunately the second one I was served although cooked well done was more fat then steak n I couldn’t eat it such a shame the rest of the meals at our table were lovely

Took a bit to find the place as I am a visitor. Had a lovely Tennessee burger came with chips and onion rings lovely came with a pint less than £8 . Nice place did not wait long for food and the staff were friendly

Asked for a simple order of no mayo in a chicke wrap and believe it or not...there is mayo in the wrap. Food came out seperately to my date even being the same table. No checkback. Not impressed with the service at all and the food was wrong so not eager to return. Only thing that was rght was the drink order, which was missing fruit but still i'm sure they're new or not trained properly.

We visited yesterday as a family of five were stopped at the door to wait for a table and do track and trace by a lovely lady then when we were able to enter were greeted and shown to our table where we used the app to order our drinks that were promptly served so far so Good However on the next table were six people who were pleasant but this started to change when it became apparent that the table on the other side were with the other six they then started to move chairs from another table to sit next to friends then decided to move into the booth behind there friends. At this stage two of our group left but were to return later. At this stage one of the group of twelves decided to take a photo meaning that they had to stand next to my wife ignoring social distancing completely I politely asked him to move and my son offered to take a picture for him We were then approached by a member of staff and asked to move to a smaller table as we were on a table for six and they needed it for another group. At this stage we were only a group of three so we’re happy to be obliging however the second group had obviously asked to have us moved so they could sit next to friends and not behind. So this meant that they were on to their third table none were disinfected so plainly not COVID safe. We then complained to the young man who had asked us to move but he wasn’t able to explain why we were moved to accommodate them. Clearly we were not appreciated by this company so left and may not return. While leaving we spoke to a lovely shift leader who advised he will look out for our review and watch CCTV footage this is a little to late as we were leaving feeling as if we were second class citizens as would spend less than a group of twelve. I look forward to the response and will look for a complaint number. This place is clearly not Covid safe as customers do whatever they want without staff intervention.

Visited on Friday Hand sanitiser as you enter but nobody taking details , toilets weren't getting checked . I noticed a member of staff enter the disabled toilet didn't check anythingjust signed to say it had been a lot of customer's use that toilet . Before we left I visited the ladies toilet there was no toilet paper in the first one I went into and they had just been checked ...because of the lack of cleanliness we won't be coming back.

Visited here after lockdown for drinks and a bite to eat ,walked straight in sanitizer at the door but nobody to do track and trace lots of tables piled up with plates and glasses supposed to be cleaning immediately afyer people leave due to covid 19 hardly any staff to be seen lights very dark horrible place walked out avoid

Got served by a lovely girl at the downstairs bar on a busy Saturday night. So professional and lovely. Had to ask her name to leave a review as she was so kind, her name was Emily. Her service was incredible.

We have eaten here many times and found it satisfactory, our order arrived, after seeing it carried by our table twice, as the waitress could not find our us, the food looked good, on opening the cutlery from the napkin found it dirty with old food still on the knife, my husband took it back and was given fresh ones, which was clean but lacked the usual lustre, the food was good, we had second drinks, I visited the Ladies out of 8/10 cubicles only 2 had paper, 2 were totally blocked and unusable, later my husband visited the gents and while he was away a Waiter came and asked me to move to another table as he was rearranging seating due to expected parties, I refused he seemed more than a little put out, we finished drinks and left. It would seem that Standards are not being kept especially in the kitchen and the Toilets and in these climes really need to be examined.

Service and food not as good as other Wetherspoons. Always busy but few times we’ve eaten here the portions are usually smaller than elsewhere - eg beans in toast, the beans only just covered the slice of toast, whereas in other Wetherspoons the serving is a little larger. We had a side salad once and had to complain as there was no dressing and only a small amount in the bowl. Must admit the replacement bowl of salad was perfect.

Two managers specials: one sirloin, one rump steak, both lukewarm, cold peppercorn sauce, grilled tomoto, cold and had never evern been wafted at a grill, cold mushroom, and about 8 chips, cold of course. Absolutely shambolic! The cook (will never be a chef as long as he/she has a hole in their ****), should be sacked. On complaining we received one hot portion of chips, the sauce microwaved, and a drink each. Wish I had gone for the refund instead. The server was very apologetic though, couldn’t fault her.

Six years ago cold air blasted from air vents in the middle of winter as of last week it still does. Apparently the air-con doesn't work. What happens is the hot air blowers trip out and cold air then gets pulled in from outside. As a rule of thumb if your customers are sat in their coats there's a problem; question is why do none of the staff appear to notice?Food was barely warm & served on cold plates, drinks were passable but lipstick was on a wine glass

I came to the Cooper and Rose today with my family for some drinks( hot chocolate, tea and coffee). The drinks were nice and you can get as many as you want this is not the best place l have been but l would come back.

We are a married lesbian couple on holiday from Amsterdam, visiting friends in Sunderland and came especially to celebrate valentines day. We decided on this restaurant cooper rose after seeing the advertisement. Well we found a seat for two and ordered our meal. After the meal we were eating desert plus extra drinks, when a the waitress lay a paper on our table stating this table is reservated from 9.30 in other words time to go. Then a man waiter rudely told us this table has been reservated. I said excuse me this behaviour is not acceptable we are sitting here enjoying our evening, my wife wanting to keep the peace said come on let's go,so I told her like a lot of couple's do to shut her mouth, all of a sudden this guy waiter said I can have you removed for saying shut your mouth I said I'm talking to my wife not you. This behaviour is absolutely disgusting some romantic valentines evening.

one person serving and another pottering about behind the bar waited far too long walked out ended up going to the greens the lovely mirror in the ladies toilet is absolutely filthy around the frame it is thick with dust and grease we do like calling in for a drink before we walk home but the service is terrible

Basic Wetherspoons with music. Very popular with students. Visited with friends on a Sunday evening, prices ok but slightly higher than other Spoons. Could do with a refurb as stair carpet a bit worn and seating too.

We popped into the Cooper Rose for lunch, myself, partner, son, ,mother and father. The person who served us appeared extremely bad tempered/ rude whilst serving my dad. The food came cold, I had the pasta Alfredo which was both cold and an extremely small portion. I have visited several Weatherspoons and always happy with the service and food but this one was well below standard. I dont expect a bar person to be rude to my father whilst he is making his selection, he wasnt slow at all but asked a few questions which shouldnt result in eye rolling from the server. If a person has so little patience then they shouldnt be working in the service industry, and food should never be served cold. The Jameson pub on the other hand has lovely, warm, helpful staff and the food is great.

Don't know how long it takes to make a pint but you have set a new record not even busy only 4 people at the bar and it still took over 10 mins to get my drink very slow a stunned slug would be quicker not very good people engage the brain and get some service engaged

A group of 6 of us went here for breakfast at 11.30.we ordered traditional breakfasts.5 came ,and one small???!!!we pointed out that the order was incorrect, the waitress eventually sorted it out.one of us didn't have butter and asked for it,the waitress wasnt happy.she almost threw the butter on the table.5 of us had finished our breakfast before the 6th one came.the waitress was really unpleasant, she just plonked the plate down.no apology,no smile or anything .we asked for more toast, and was told no,it was past noon!I get that breakfast finished at 12,but while we were still eating,it would take nothing to put a couple of slices of bread in the toaster.wont return.

I was in the Cooper Rose on Thursday night, had a funny turn and the staff were amazing! Big shout out to the team leader and Duty manager (both female, dark hair.. sorry, can only remember one name but don't want to leave one out!).Other nights I've been here always been fab, and food is awesome! Thank you

Went here with the missus only because the rabbitt and victors had stopped serving food. We ordered grilled chicken burger chips and a pint of fosters. The food came within 15 mins and we tucked in. The chips were edible but the chicken burger tasted like crap. Large lump of fat in it and no taste whatsoever I can clearly say I will never eat in there again. The lager was ok but stay clear of the crap they serve as grub. The atmosphere was ok and the staff were friendly enough but like I said the food was disgusting.

We ordered a pint of Guinness and received a pint of John Smiths in a Guinness glass instead, when telling the manager that it was not Guinness she proclaimed that it was the type of Guinness they sold here and was very rude in offering us a different drink rather than checking the Guinness. When watching her poor another Guinness 5 minutes later it was black in colour and looked like Guinness not John Smiths, very rude and worrying service.

Visited here on Tuesday lunchtime and had a chicken burger and my husband had a beef burger. There was no mustard with the condiments, so he asked the waiter for some when he brought the food. The waiter came back later and said there wasn't any. We returned later in the evening for the steak night and ordered two mixed grills. Again there was no mustard with the condiments. My husband asked the waitress when she brought the food and she said she would go and look for some. She finally came back and said that she couldn't find any. Is this a North East thing? We also visited the Wetherspoons in Concord, Washington and they didn't have any either. The Wetherspoons we have visited in the North West all supply mustard.

Curry day on a Thursday in Cooper rose. Chose the lamb rogan Josh. Served with nann bread .rice and poppadoms. Curry was really tasty and juicy. Staff were friendly

Had food here as staying in a hotel nearbyPlenty of seats available and I used the App which was very easy.Had veg lasagne, roast veg and corn on cob. Must admit, the quality wasn’t great but it’s what I should expect for the competitive price I paid

Went with friends to celebrate a birthday in the group, ordered our food, came in approximately twenty minutes. I have with another the two steaks and a bottle of wine for £20.49 excellent value for money. The wine we got was a rose, which was lovely. Its cheap and cheerful, give it a go.

Cheap place for food and drinks but the hygiene in the ladies toilets is disgusting. We were there for a few hours , although the toilets were being checked regularly they were having toilet cleaner squirted but weren't being cleaned . This particular toilet was like that the whole time we were there . Within 2 hours there was literally 1 toilet that was clean enough to use . Won't be going back .

I ordered chips with bread and butter and a side of roast vegetables.I was really looking forward to a chip butty but when it came, it was brown bread. I hate brown bread. I went to the bar to ask for it to be changed but they told me there was none left. It really should have mentioned on the app when I ordered that there was only brown left and I would have ordered something else. I know I am being picky but the point of ordering food is to choose food you like. To add, the roast vegetables didn't have much of an assortment, just peppers, onion and courgettes, not a huge fan of onion and courgettes either. It should say on the menu exactly what vegetables there are as it is a broad category.Basically, I just had a plate of chips and a pepsi for my tea and paid over £6 for the displeasure.I'm still sad about the lack of chip butty.

Very disapointed , bought drinks at midnight on sunday by the time i got back to my table i was told to sup up as we are closing whatever happened to the 20 minute finish your drink time or better still tell the people that youve just served b4 they by drink ☹☹

Second time in the cooper rose and still not disappointed with the food.. had the vegetarian lasagna with salad and it was very good.. the only down side to our visit was that our table hadn’t been cleaned from the last customers.. but apart from that. Was a nice family meal.

Met a few friends here before a show at the empire with the intention of a few drinks but ended up staying for dinner when we saw the menu. Great selection of pub classics, burgers and grilled goods we couldn’t resist at prices that were insanely reasonable. The quality? Far better than we expected, I don’t think there was a thing left on a plate. The only gripe was service was very slow, it was a bit busy but still took longer than we’d expected as we found ourselves rushing at the end to get to our show. Staff were very pleasant, the decor is a bit darker than I like but I have no real complaints it was nice and open in design. We will most definitely be back and will likely be our preferred before show stop in future.

We thought we’d give them a last chance after being disappointed with the food before. Even before ordering the service at the bar was terrible - two staff standing talking for several minutes and even my “excuse me!” was ignored. The young woman who appeared to be in charge looked like she would rather re-arrange the gin bottles than serve customers! So, food ordered we then waited 25 minutes for it to arrive: my wife’s burger was cold, and my curry was lukewarm, temperature wise although fiery hot spice wise. Now, usually some member of staff walks by asking if everything is ok, but not last night. Only when we were finished did the server ask as he picked up the plates. Had we not been going on to another pub we’d have complained, but really we shouldn’t have to, the chef or short order cook should ensure the food is piping hot as it leaves the kitchen. All in all 1 out of 5 is more than he/she deserves!

Good beer and food at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and polite and the surrounds are fine.

I live about 5/10 minutes from this Wetherspoon so as a Wetherspoon's fan, I am a regular visitor, most weeks I'll have a meal there. Most meals I've had have been pretty good. The only issue I have had was a mild allergic reaction. I went for breakfast and ordered one of the fry-ups that didn't have egg (I have an egg allergy) using the app. The pan used to cook mine must have recently been used to cook egg for someone else's fry-up. I had a mild reaction that I could treat with an anti-histamine. However, I would advise anyone with an allergy, especially if it's serious, to be cautious with what they order and to tell the staff so they can tell the kitchen to not cross-contaminate.

To be honest I came here last year (may) and I didn't rate it at all with 3 chips or less with a meal and crap customer service!! But what a change!! The lovley lad at the bar (the handsome one) was just amazing and very very welcoming, the food was delicious and piping hot with alot of it. I got 2 double pink gins well done aswell...all for £12 pound I was shocked at the price for 2 meals and 2 double pink gins!!! I will be back!!!

Been couple times over last two weeks always dingy and dark food always cold. Today 22 december out with lads from work walked in at 18. 30 not any music on at all saturday before xmas shocking wished we never bought adrink n got out asked bar staff were music was no response rubbish pub wont be back .

I think this used to be the old Durham Book Centre where I would buy my wall posters as a youngun.It’s a bit of a dingy interior and a tad depressing, I felt.Usual Wetherspoon’s menu. Chose a British Beef Chilli. Tasted fine, but it barely covered the bottom of the bowl. Have had better pub meals. If filled a small hole, but was still hungry at the end of it.Disappointed.

Came in for food with work mates on 09/12 after ice skating, just saying I will never be eating food from here again. Ordered on the app 3 separate orders we made for one table but 5 meals in total. All food came out a different times (little trip always send food to tables together).Food came everyone chips came out cold, told the girl who ran the food she just looked as us then walked away, 20 minutes later next ordered of food came out I asked for sweet chill dip for my halloumi fries she said there was none, wouldn't have ordered then if I knew that. asked where the missing items were from the mixed grill, the lass than snapped at me and said we've ran out again wouldn't have ordered it3 orders of halloumi fries all over cooked and burnt 5 meals with chips all cold 1 mixed grill with missing items 1 drive thur burger with chicken, the chicken was like rubber, vile.1 snappy waitressNo one checked back on us, we all left loads of food hardly touched it and when she came to clear the table she didn't asked why there was so much left over.Food used to be nice in here now it's vile. I should of asked for a refund hardly ate anything.Wouldn't feed it to my dog

Mother & I had a day out to Sunderland, after checking reviews we decided on here for brunch, it didn’t let us down, plenty of seating without feeling cramped, friendly chatty bartenders, the cooked breakfast was good & exactly what we ordered, mother was very happy so all good.

Went with friends for a celebratory meal and a drink. Great food which is typical of a weatherspoons chain pub, good value. However the service at the upstairs bar is somewhat slow and some of the staff seem rather unclear on their roles and duties... But still worth a visit.

Came here for food and a few drinks. Typical Weatherspoons with good reliable food and drinks. The halloumi fries were particularly delicious.The service was good too

First and foremost very busy day , kids off school and fish n chip Friday to , 5 of us , mixed order , the guy serving said food would take upto 45 minutes for to being busy , helpful tip Ordered off the app , mixed order with no starters .. knew food would take some time but couldn’t work out why we had to wait for the drinks , about 20 minutes As they didn’t seem to organised at the bar upstairs .. no one seemed to be looking at the app orders just the queue at the bar .Eventually they came , order did take about 45 minutes like told Pizzas really good , first time had them , hot n spicy nice , maybe jalapeños instead of chillis would be better , plus easier for the people in the kitchen as already prepped Burgers and ciabatta were good , Only let down was the fish n chips , it wasn’t cooked , pink inside , due to batter being really thick didn’t cook through Could of been bad for whoever ate it , as the child hadn’t realised , but it was sealed straight away by our helpful waitress .. very apologetic , these things can happen I know but dealt with wellValue good Spoons have that niche tied up , the pub itself a touch dated colours , but just decor and spot of paint would brighten it up still a four (4)

Does what it says on the tin, expected Wetherspoons content. Good range of ales & spirits, the the standard pub grub

It is good food for the price you pay I had a burger what was very tasty for the price you have to pay for the food,However at time they can give you cold food,very good would go again.

Highly recommended the breakfasts are beautiful, we come over yearly from Amsterdam for a few days definitely value for money and very friendly staff.

Overall an enjoyable visit to this decent 'spoons in Sunderland. Despite not having all of the drinks available on the menu, there was still an adequate selection of beers & wines. The food was plentiful and of good quality, but the curry sauce would definitely have benefited from an extra minute in the microwave. Good value, would return.

I reckon that the Wetherspoons tells you quite a lot about the town. So here we are in Sunderland, and it’s a really friendly place with a good atmosphere. The food was fine but nothing out of the ordinary hence the title. The beer was cheap and it was a good evening all round.

Came down to Sunderland as a surprise for my sons birthday. He suggested the cooper rose as him and his family have eaten here many times before.. it’s a busy wee pub which is always good to see.. got to our table and it hadn’t been cleared from the last customers which was not a good start.. my son needed to change my granddaughter so asked for the key to the changing facilities and was told it was out of order but instead of having an alternative changing mat or anything He had to go to the busy male toilet and change his daughter next to the sinks on a rock solid surface!!! And then gave him a bag to put her soild nappy in a bag and told me to leave it next to the door and they would come sort it out!! Not very good for parents with young children... we ordered our food through the app which is a very good idea and we waited.. food came it was well presented and was very tasty. Nobody came to do a check back with us to make sure everything was ok.. I know the waiting staff were very busy but it is just common decency to ask your customers if everything was ok with their food... I maybe back on future visits to my son’s as the food was very good.. just a few problems that could be dealt with properly..

Was here last night for a few drinks really good music and not too expensive toilets are nice and clean

The service is always fast and cheap, would come here if we are out drinking around town and need a bite to eat. The food is always average and nothing special but does the job.

10 of us went on Friday night in great mood few of us asked DJ at different time of the night for some old school music or something we can dance or sing along with and what the younger people would like he was very rude he told us NO so I walked away later as I walked passed Dj booth he shouted at me “ARE YOU STILL MOANING “ as you can imagine I was not happy about this so I went over and spoke not shouted told him he should be playing song for everyone not just the young ones (I’m 50 sober as I walk with a stick) he told me if he played that type of music now he would be sacked this was 10.30ish then said he would play it 2.30. The doorman with fair hair (lovely man) was standing next to me shacking his head, by this point the Dj was so very rude I ask him was it to hard hard to type in his lap top to put a song on for me and my friends so they could dance he then got really bad shouting at me so I very politely told him in one word what I thought he was ( w***** yes I shouldn’t of said it but I couldn’t help it ) he then start pointing and swinging his arms around calling me IT and SOMETHING LIKE THAT? What why is it because I walk with a stick or my age? I walked away sat down with my friends then the lovely doorman came over and told me and I had to leave as the DJ wanted me out, then the other doorman came over to my friends and told them to leave as DJ didn’t want any of us in. Yes I said escort me out but not my friends they hadn’t called the DJ anything. The doorman was very nice I made a joke did he escort many people out sober and with a walking stick and bless him he laughed at me. The DJ in my opinion needs a course in public skills. Well that my experience of this pub !!!

I liked it in here, set on 2 floors with a central chandelier type feature.Took a while to get served. Found a table by the window. Ordered food which didn't come straight away. Lucky really after reading other reviews. Our meal came maybe 10 to 15 mins after ordering and to be honest was cooked just right. Really tasty so no complaints about the food. Typical spoons, I'd eat here again.

The food is not nice at all, it's cold when delivered to the table. I should have known when I sat down and looked about at the amount of food that people had left on the plates. Never again once was to much

We visited yesterday just fancied a snack and a quiet pint drinks were fine however we both ordered baked potatoes with tuna mayonnaise we got them within five minutes. The reason being they were both still frozen in the middle I spoke to the duty manager Dan who was absolutely brilliant he apologised profusely and took them away then got us free drinks for our troubles and made sure our meal was replaced not just reheated. This young man was the difference between a bad review and the one I’m posting he will be an asset to this pub he deserves the review himself.

OK bar, nothing special but worth a visit. Big bar with two floors. Friendly efficient staff, with Wetherspoons usual great drinks menu. Locals seemed to like it as it was fairly full

Wandered in twice after visiting the Priestman Building. Clean, service fast, prices good (as all Wetherspoons are), Blue Moon with slice of orange - lush and reasonably priced. Worth a stop in with friends.

Went for food before going to see a show and wasn't impressed at all, the quality of the food was telling.Frozen chips, the burger I was served as only half cooked, I was not impressed at all. Low budget = low quality and terrible service You get what you pay for.

Love this pub. Great drinks, service and prices. Does get a bit busy at times but the Wetherspoons Mobile app works really well - ensuring our many many drink orders are delivered to our table without fuss and the need for us to queue up at the bar

Been here today with future daughter in law for a lunch break while wedding shopping and we both had skinny chicken burger and salad and a latte as we are trying to eat healthy it was well worth the price 11pd for both of us the staff were very helpful and friendly

The prices are good ,especially the food-drink combination prices. Food although is quite heavy for my stomach! I don't really understand why the asked about your identity when its obvious that you are over 20!

First the BAD > no Kronenbourg!!!!!!!!! At least not on draft, had to drink other drinks, none of which suit my palette like 1664.Nice spacious 'spoons located to the west of the town centre and not far from our hotel. Took the upstairs option in order to take advantage of the height for "sight" seeing. When it came to ordering food, my order was delivered within 3 minutes of my placing the order! Someone else must have cancelled or rejected, not even our location next to the serving hatch could explain this rapidity of service.Used this place for breakfast twice, one day being allowed to substitute fried egg for scrambled the next day not... very strange. Never been a problem before.The common thread of our visit to Sunderland was the consistency of good service [refusal of scrambled eggs aside].Whilst all 'spoons have info on their or their namesake's interesting past this one has a bit of worthwhile commissioned are. A ships propellor with designs on the three different blades of the propeller... wish I'd taken a photo it, really is a good fusion of the industrial and artistic.

Lovely friendly place for a pit stop for a coffee 99p and it’s refillable ! Just help yourself out of coffee machine then just sit relax and people watch 😉

No steaks today for some reason, seems to be an issue with supplier. Had salmon instead, was perfect, colleague had pie, which was very good. Steaks usually excellent, aberdeen angus rump, although week, they have now defaulted to sirloin, not as nice, but still excellent value for money, free drink included, and very good service.

Great location, nice food at great prices, efficient service and love the Wetherspoons app. I think as its a Wetherspoons people take it for granted but I always find the quality of food constantly good and it's nice to go somewhere where you know what your getting no matter which town. I love that the salad didn't have dressing smothering it but is on the side so you can choose whether to have it or not. A lot of food establishments could learn a lot from them.

Had a lovely meal in the copper rose, very good value for money, reasonable price for drinks, would have preferred comfy chairs to sit in when not having a meal

I am a regular and love coming here for my breakfast with friends before work. Recently over the last few months, all staff seem to be new and inexperienced. Simple breakfast changes are being messed up, and some staff seem to be completely clueless. Considering moving our local breakfast place to a simpler cafe. Missing all the old faces!!! Not as friendly and jolly these days, such a shame used to look forward to seeing the bunch. Certainly not as happy atmosphere behind the bar anymore.
