We stayed at the Tufton Arms Hotel and decided to book a table here. It was okay. Decent range of choices and food tasted okay but....service, decor etc was pretty basic.

Wife had the fish pie-wonderful. I had the lamb with pea and mint puree-great stuff. Good service, nice surroundings and a good price for fantastic food. Very quiet when we ate but we were early. It was our best meal in Appleby.

Found this charming fish restaurant on our way up to Scotland. The fish menu was delicious with a great variety of dishes. For our starter we had Scallops and Cajun squid with tiger prawns which were absolutely delicious. We both had Gumbo for our main which was stunning. The staff were very friendly and the wine list is fantastic. Thank you very much for a delicious meal. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I were recommended by our B&B. On arrival service was excellent. Drinks prices not too bad. Extensive menu mainly fish, which we both love so no complaints from us. I had risotto which was lovely, also nice and hot. Wife had chicken and left none! Puddings home made and more than ample. Only negative was our fault. Customers of mos B & Bs including ours get complimentary half bottle of wine. We forgot to claim!-bah humbug. Will go again if in area.

Fabulous food and brilliant wine list, the staff go out of their way to provide a great service. The sword Fish Skewers were delicious and to be recommended as was the Lamb Shank, and the desserts are to die for.

We came to Appleby for a walk round the old streets and shops, however the weather had other plans and torrential rain made us look for somewhere dry for a leisurely lunch instead. We were a party of two adults, two OAPs, three small children and a dog. Tourist information recommended this restaurant as a place that would be suitable for all. On my first recce the lady behind the bar was very friendly and helpful, showed me the bar menu, but also said they could cater for the children with half portions and do any sort of sandwich/soup/side dish for any of our party that didn't want a full meal. I trooped our whole party in, wet coats, small people, excited dog and all. Luckily for us the first floor is divided into small sections, bar, lounge, reception, and there was a private space with no one else eating in it, and we all sat there so we didn't disturb the people eating in the bar. Despite some of the party originally not wanting a lot to eat, the menu looked so good and the day was so miserable, we all chose full meals. The seafood fan had an enormous bowl of mussels in a spicy tomato sauce, and the other adults had macaroni cheese and hotpots. The small people all got ham sandwiches and chips, which they loved. The food came quickly, and was really good. I had the macaroni cheese, which was delicious, the sauce was creamy, topped with tomato and grilled to perfection, and served with a big chunk of bread and butter. Just the sort of cosy comfort food the day demanded. The staff were lovely, made a fuss of the children and dog, and we were made to feel really welcome.

So we had dinner here. Terrible. The battered fish had been in the fryer way too long. Expect better from pub grub.we didn't stay here so can only comment on our experience with dinner. Noticeably it wasn't busy.

Upon entering it was a very small space, 2 customers waiting the cashier was very blunt when I walked in and said "YES" I had no time to look at the menu, so I just ordered 2 fish and chips and 2 jumbo sausage with 1 chips, Its been a while since I have been to a chip shop but this came to almost £35 which is total daylight robbery. They tasted ok but nothing special. Overall I wouldn't rush to return
