We were regular visitors until recently. Our last visit was terrible. We called for Saturday breakfast. Our breakfasts were thrown on the plates. Didn’t look appetising at all and didn’t taste much better. I was given a chipped cup with my pot of tea. When I complained I was told they were all chipped. We won’t be calling at The Conservatory again.

Use to be a regular visitor but not any more !! Visited today to find dirty tables both inside & outside, sat for at least 10mins without anyone greeting us or giving us a menu, when I finally caught the waitresses attention after being completely ignored I asked for a menu only to find no actual menu inside it to which she mumbled something incoherent. Chose our food from a now very limited choice & still no-one approached us until a further 10mins later I asked her to take our order. By this point several people had already come inside to ask the chefs what was happening as they too were either being ignored or still waiting for food. Then another young member of staff came in, wiped her nose on her hand & finally start d clearing n wiping tables. Absolutely no interaction or interest from either of them, in fact they just seemed to be hiding out the back of the restaurant as in just the 1 hour we were there we saw at least 4 lots of people leave because they had been totally ignored by these 2 girls. Couldn’t fault the gammon & chips, however the side salad was just peppers !!! Absolutely shocking front of house/waiting service from totally uninterested staff !!! We will not be back !!!

We decided to have breakfast down the Marina and headed for The Conservatory not realising it had new ‘management. We sat outside and waited for a menu. It certainly wasn’t but we waited and waited and waited. I eventually went inside and got my own menus. It became evident that people on the other tables were kicking off about their orders. I asked a passing waitress if she could bring a tea coffee and tea as we were desperate. She put her order book in the middle of the table and leaned over it to write in a loverly longhand - one tea one coffee. I again emphasised that we would like it asap. We then perused the menu. The menu is small so you would expect the meals to be pretty easy to knock up. We waited and waited and waited. People at other tables had given up and left. After what must have been 30 min from our tea an coffee order the young waitress came to our table to take our order - I pointed out that I had ordered tea and coffee but was still waiting - it’s coming she said. Again she plonked her order book in the middle of the table and wrote our orders in a very neat longhand. After a further wait I again called the waitress over and asked for our drinks and pointed out I had only paid for two hours parking. “They are ready “ she said. “Well why haven’t you brought them to the table ?” I asked incredulously. We did get the drinks and to make matters worse the coffee was awful. Meanwhile people from other tables had again got up and left without being served. After finishing our drinks we had had enough decided to leave. I went into the restaurant and told told the waitress to bring the bill for the drinks as we were leaving. She came out and said we wouldn’t be charged for them. No apologies, no explanation, nothing. We had waited for well over 45 min for our drinks and left the place after waiting 1hr 15min for the food not to be served. It’s very sad that a once very good venue is heading for the rocks unless something is done urgently. Clearly the staff have had very little training and the kitchen is a joke.

We visited for lunch today and can't say that I was overly impressed. We walked into the building but it smelled heavily of fried food so decided to sit outside. Thankfully the weather was great unlike the rest of our experience. We found our own menu and while our order taken quickly we were waiting ages for food. 45 mins for a couple of panini - aka sandwiches. Service was abismal. Our server hadnt got a clue. We had to ask for cutlery, we were never asked if we would like condiments- which we did and food was mediocre at best. People were leaving. You really need to get a grip. The menu isn't extensive. Breakfast is standard fayre so much can be prepared in advance. Lite bites is pretty much paninis so again you think they'd be geared up for this too. We fetched our own bill and took payment to the till. You really need to do much better than this. Needless to say we won't be returning anytime soon.

Taking family out to breakfast on a Saturday morning, so on Friday when passing checked the opening times. Breakfast from 9am... ok. Incidentally on the Friday evening restaurant was empty just after 8.30pm (worrying when other restaurants on Marina were busy!)Back to Saturday morning, we entered the restaurant (door was open) to be quite abruptly and with no apology, informed that they don't open until 9.30am. Needless to say we took our custom elsewhere. On passing again today the time on the blackboard still states 9am! Not starting breakfast service until 9am isn't the way forward and neither is rude staff. The Conservatory used to be our go to place, recent experiences have resulted in our custom going elsewhere.

Visited here on Sunday morning for breakfast. First thing I noticed was the amount of young workers and the lack of a management figure. We ordered two full english breakfasts and a round of drinks, they totally forgot about our drinks order and then ran out of sausages for the breakfasts(?!). We got told they were being delivered - and when we eventually got our drinks got told they weren't being charged. Couples kept coming in an sitting down, only for them not to waited on, getting fed up. and leaving. There were about 4 members of staff and not necessarily busy, I didn't quite understand why the volume of people was an issue considering all the breakfasts were on hold until the pigs were sorted out. When the food came, in fairness, it was quite nice - despite being left under the hotplate for about 10 min and only getting one sausage - considering they'd just had a delivery, I thought we could two. Apparently under new management, but the management obviously don't work Sundays.

I had a meal at The Conservatory for the first time a few weeks ago and have mixed views. On the positive side, the food was very good and the chef clearly has skill. A pork belly and black pudding fritter starter was particularly delicious. Service was friendly. However, the ambience was poor. The restaurant lacked atmosphere and I thought there were some basic things that could easily have been done to improve it. Making the lighting less bright is one obvious step ; the lighting is too harsh, more like a burger joint. There was commercial radio playing in the background, presumably put on by the kitchen staff, and that was grating. Why not just play some decent chill-out music? This made the atmosphere even more flat, not helped by the coldness of the room ; there didn't seem to be functioning heating. It was a shame because the food was excellent (although some of the portions are too big) but I wouldn't go back unless steps were taken to make the actual dining experience more convivial and enjoyable.

Desert was cheesecake for me and Christine sticky toffee pudding with home made custard. They ran out of ice cream but chef offered to make her some custard. 3 course for £17.95 or if you just want 2 courses it was £14.95. All courses were cooked to perfection. As we were staying at The Marina and the food is basic in the pub attached we decided to call in here. Its only a short walk around the marina to get here. The staff were friendly when we arrived - though it wasn't really busy- and we were quickly brought menus and drinks. After being undecided, because of so many things I wanted to try, I settled for something that doesn't exist on menus in the Midlands (well I've never seen it) Chicken Parmo! So tasty - so much so that I've attempted to create my own at home!! Will be back again next time I'm visiting family in town. Would be good if people could get to look at the menu online rather than just the chef's choices , I can't be the only person who likes to check out a menu before they book.

Our drinks didn't come until after our starters had been finished. The service was very slow and poor, the restaurant was pretty empty but still the food took far longer than is reasonable. The menu did not accurately reflect the dishes, there was no black pudding in or with the black pudding scotch eggs. The main meal was edible but not of a very high standard. The pasta dish I had, had raw peppers that had supposedly been roasted and overall tasted no better than my own cooking. Visited Friday evening for a meal with family. Brought the usual platter of bread and butter to find the bread was mouldy - so sent it back with an apology. Food was nice until dessert when the raspberries were also a bit mouldy. So complained about that also. Service at the beginning was good but after dessert we sat for ages waiting for someone to come to take a coffee order and at the finish someone had to attract staff's attention. Could understand if restaurant was busy but it was very very quiet. On paying the bill it was mentioned about the mouldy bread and whoever took the message (Manager/Owner) said he would tell the chef and that it had been freshly delivered that morning. I also noticed that the wine glasses could have done with a good wash as they were stained - we should have complained about that also but sometimes you feel there is only so many times you can complain in one evening. We had visitors over from Holland and was their first visit to this restaurant - needless to say they weren't impressed. I would have thought a slight reduction in the final bill should have been forthcoming.Think they need to train their staff to be a bit more vigilant before food leaves the kitchen

An interesting visit for breakfast. A nice little restaurant with a wide ranging menu, and a busy breakfast clientele. My sister and I went there for a late breakfast, she had a very substantial Full English, sadly I opted for the fruit scone.... not a good choice, it felt stale and overcooked, and even the lovely bowl of jam did not improve the flavour. The main problem was the incessant banging of the door, each time a diner or member of staff walked in or out the door BANGED back to close. Not a relaxing meal at all. Please please get this fixed, we were not the only ones to go away with a headache. Sorry to carry on with the complaints but....... the tea cups are so small that two sips and you need to refill, when I requested a larger cup I was told that they were for the coffee drinkers only. The use of wooden platters for serving meals was also a little unnerving, as I wonder how you can get any miniscule morsels of food out of the cracks in the wood.On the upside the staff were efficient and capable, the restaurant is in the lovely setting of the marina, there is outside seating and the toilets were adequate, though you need to be a thin contortionist to get into the cubicle and then turn around 180 degrees to reach the toilet paper on the back wall whilst you are seated.

We called in on Saturday lunchtime for food. The choice of food was good and we were all pleased with our choice. The drinks, especially the coffee, was very good and the service was first class and friendly. A pleasurable visit.

Called in for coffee and pot of tea with family on a Sunny Sunday morning. Service quite slow, milk jug looked as though it had been washed in greasy water and bits of orangy yellow grease were a floating around in the jug, had to ask for twice for replacement, they then gave us the bill even though one of our party hadn't even been given their coffee, the tea was cold by the time the replacement milk arrived and tasted like dishwasher. Not very impressed.

We visited Hartlepool to catch up with some friends and met them at the Marina. We decided on the Conservatory and couldn't have been happier. The service was excellent, very attentive staff who couldn't do enough to help. We limited ourselves to a single course, but the two course deal looked an absolute bargain. The food was excellent, the gourmet burger is easily one of the best burgers I've ever eaten! Our friends will be visited more often now we've discovered this food!

We had a evening meal, the service is excellent as is the food. They had a talented singer guitarist which added to the atmosphere. We noticed they did breakfast so we decided to try that as well which didn't disappoint, as good as you will get and more than i could manage. Will return

Came to the marina with the family and couldn't decide where to eat when we stumbled on here close to closing, but they were still extremely friendly and didn't rush us. The Sunday Lunch was gorgeous, we ordered two adult lunches and two kids ones. It all had that really nice homemade feel to it and everything was really well presented. We will certainly be coming back and recommending this to our friends.

We booked a table having checked out the menu as it was a Saturday night and the Marina was likely to be busy but it turned out there were a few tables available throughout the evening. My wife's Bruschetta seemed to have been put under the grill to melt a very thin slice of goats cheese over tomato and onion which dried out the whole dish, left an unpleasant warm onion taste and left no impression of goats cheese at all. My starter was forgettable whilst the Calf's Liver was only faintly pink going to grey as I ate it although I had been assured it would be pink. My wife's duo of beef had a slow cooked unexceptional piece of beef coupled with a small and very chewy fillet steak. Dessert of ginger cake with ice cream was rather dry. The appearance as a Bistro with chefs cooking in sight of customers was not backed up by the food and not very enjoyable but rather pretentious.

decided to give this restaurant another chance but i do not think it will happen again-once more the staff are indifferent and uneducated-i only asked if the house white wine was unoaked and not only did i get a long vacant stare but when i asked where the wine was from the girl just scuttled back to the bar..tried to ask someone..no one appeared to know so she decided not to approach me again...we tried on several occasions to get anyones attention to order for around half an hour-the staff seemed to be having a bit of a discussion amongst themselves behind the bar??-this used to be a really great restaurant when we visited several times last year but ot has really gone downhill and i am afraid it is down to the staff and their-lack of-decent management-wont be back and neither will my friends or family

Went as a couple for dinner, we didn't reserve a table but after checking we were offered a table near the door. The food was lovely, had a mixed starter which included a mini soup which was beautiful and main of paprika chicken with vegetables, also cooked perfectly. The service was quick and the atmosphere relaxed, the price very reasonable also. A good night was had and definitely will return.

The marina was busy on a sunny Saturday when myself, my partner & parents visited. They advertised a gluten free menu which made us keen to go in (I have coeliac). They didn't have a gf menu (it wasn't even noted what was possible to have gf on the main menu), the waitress that served us didn't know about gf options (she thought I couldn't have butter) so had to keep going to the kitchen. I know this is up to management so they should spend some time learning about gluten free and training their staff in what it is. The meals we eventually got were good and they allowed me to have a chicken salad rather than a baguette. It could be a much more coeliac friendly place with a little effort - there's no excuse for not knowing as its so common these days.

went to the conservatory for Sunday lunch. they gave us a menu which had 3 courses on. it said 2 courses for £11.95. three of my party wanted the main course and a sweet but were told the 2 courses were only starters and main. so we all settled for main courses of roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, mash, roast potatoes, new potatoes, green beans, cauliflower, carrots, mashed turnip and tub of gravy. a bit pricey at £9.95 each. The meals were delicious with fresh veg but spoiled by a piece of string left in a slice of beef. we were offered a free sweet but declined it.

We visited the conservatory on Monday for my sisters birthday. For our starters I ordered goats cheese bruschetta which was lovely, but a very small portion. My sister ordered the Soup of the day. The soup was far too salty to eat. We informed the waitress, who said she would let the chef know. Both main courses were lovely and made up for the starters. All in all a nice place, but we probably won't visit again due to the issues we had with our starters

So here I am in Hartlepool trying to get a good breakfast on a Saturday as I am strolling along the beautiful marina. The seagulls are lulling my ears but my nostrills are being tickled by a certain smell. I turn around and I spot a petite hut of light colour winking at me. I approach and I see it. The Conservative. As a liberal, I'd never step into something called the Conservative. But the exterior estetica drew me in. I couldn't help it!Well I enter, of course. And to my surprise there's no one there to welcome me. No worries. I seat myself down and wait patiently. I am greeting by a lovely young lady with a radiant smile and she eagerly enumerates the today's specials. Fantastic options! But ole tummy 'o mine isn't persuaded .. :'( it wants a fry-up! She kindly says that they stopped making breakfasts 10 minutes ago! Luck is not on my side today I said to myself. I ordered a tea whilst trying to make my decision and browsing the menu. After scratching my head in 17 different ways, my friend Gary gets up and goes to Le Chef and asks him if he could, after all, make an English Breakfast (I am with Gary, my friend, and his family by the way) Le Chef sees the kindness in Gary's eyes and accepts. He returned triumphantly to the cheerful table and we await our feast. After only 10 minutes we are aproached by an army of three waiters who bring all four breakfasts to our table and toasted white bread with butter on a wooden chopping board shaped like a leaf (a detail witch I took to heart). The breakfast - beautiful baked beans, excellent eggy egg, sensual saucy sausage, marvelous meaty mushrooms, perfectly prepared pudding and bacon - was tremendous! Feeling like a prince, I arise from the table and after watching Gary pay, we leave excited to start our weekend! Now if it wasn't for the damned illy tea cups which you can never properly hold by the handle or for my wobbly chair which I had to change, I'd give this place a 4.89/5 but having this in account which with a bit of struggle could easily change I will have to give it*Drumroll*CostelloCredit 4.24/5P.S: Maybe we should give The Conservatives another chance? ;o

We visited on a Tuesday night and had the perfect parmos. It’s always a good sign when all the tables are full and it didn’t disappoint. Despite being busy the service was cheerful and helpful and the food was even better. All of us agreed that it was the best Parmo we have ever had with loads of choice. The main menu looked inviting as did some of the other plates we saw being served so a return visit to try some of the other dishes is planned soon.

Arrived at 2:50pm chose the bar area instead of the lounge, was immediately asked if we wanted a drink or food. We said we would have a drink and maybe food if we could have the menu. The waitress said, “Oh, no more food orders.” So we thought, “OK, we will just have a drink and go somewhere else.” 10 minutes later, a couple wandered in, and a different waitress approached them and ushered them to a table and began dressing the table ready for food. We asked this waitress, “Is there food available?” She said, “Yeah, it’s a Sunday dinner!!! Not sure the first waitress knew what day of the week it was, but one thing for certain is we will never go back, I’m afraid.” Sad really, as we drove all the way here from Middlesbrough. Not the best to be honest, another thing there was a large crowd of what must have been locals crowded around the tiny bar who were really loud and instead of chatting to themselves they were really audible above everything else so glad really we only stayed for a drink.

God chippy reminds you of the old style family chippy. Good old fashioned fish and chips no kebab or pizza there. Highly recommend
