We had to detour into Dartford to get a puncture fixed. With an hour or so to spare we wandered into the town to fins a cafe and luckily came upon The Coffee House. From the start the staff were exceptionally friendly. Service was fast and the coffees and hot chocolate were lovely. We then tried some of the home made milkshakes (one Oreo and one Caramel) they were amazing. The bill was lower than we imagined proving what great value the cafe is.

I ordered a takeaway breakfast via Uber eats from here. When it arrived two of the three sandwiches had thick black hair stuck to the bacon. It turned my stomach, needless to say I threw the whole lot in the bin, we ate and drank nothing, after spending £22. When I complained to Uber eats at first they refused to refund, after a bit of a debate they decided to redund in £8.90 for the two sandwiches that had hair in them even tho we couldn’t eat any of it because I felt physically sick at the thought of it. Absolutely disgusting !!

First visit to this establishment yesterday. Very polite staff. The customers were seated next to each other so no social distance between us being followed so we felt a bit uncomfortable. Waiting a long time for our food to arrive. Two other tables of people were given their orders before us and we were seated at least 15 minutes before them. Not that our food order was complicated just a toasted sandwich and a baguette and two cokes. When the food arrived it was very nice. However payment was made by my mother who wasn’t aware of the discount and was charged the full amount unbeknowing to myself until we had left the restaurant. So I just checked on the government website to see participation of the scheme to see if they are actually on it and apparently they are.

We booked early and although the restaurant was almost empty the service (though charming) was slow. As we wanted a quick lunch we ordered sandwiches -my friend had a steak sandwich (£10) and I had a Club sandwich (£11). Both were on thick-cut sourdough which was very hard to cut/bite through. My Club sandwich was described on the menu as 'chicken, egg, lettuce and bacon' but the egg was scrambled and cold, no bacon but ham instead, and the lettuce was tired and limp, so it was tasteless and boring. My friend's sandwich was equally underwhelming with cold steak and soggy sauerkraut. On the plus side, our chips were good! We'd both had good food on previous visits, and really like the ambience, so it was a shame to find the food so disappointing this time.

A prior fan of the Dial House, I was left feeling somewhat underwhelmed when visiting to treat my wife to a special birthday meal. Having had to book an earlier time slot than I would have liked, I was surprised to find the restaurant virtually empty for a significant part of our visit, leaving me to wonder why I couldn't have booked a later slot. Because it was so quiet, we found the staff overly attentive initially, then latterly by contrast, we were pretty much abandoned. The food was excellent, but I was surprised not to have been asked how I would have liked my steak cooked and to have my coffee served in a plastic cup was really not what I would have expected from an establishment which promotes itself an "elegant restaurant". The red wine had been badly poured down the outside of the glass and there was a lot of sediment in the glass too. Diners on a nearby table were overheard complaining about their experience. All in all, it wasn't a bad meal, but the overall experience has left me looking elsewhere, particularly for a special occasion.

Too many unknown or strange ingredients On the Saturday before Christmas we expected the place to be buzzy , but instead it was quiet and like a morgue. After a bit of struggle to park at lunchtime on a Tuesday in this busy town the welcome inside was quite good. We found it slightly strange to be offered just water while we perused the menus at our table and were relieved to see then, that a good selection of wines was to be available with our lunch, indeed our bottle of ordinary Malbec was good. This being an extended Norfolk Restaurant Week special menu the choices were understandably limited. However the smoked salmon starters were excellent, as were the desserts including the Affogato. We puzzled a bit over the main course choices though and some opted eventually for a vegetarian item, while others for the special roast rump of beef with 'chips' and Roscoff onion, which I personally found all a bit disappointing in terms of flavour. Service was helpful and friendly, and we felt that the room ambience was outstanding.

Visited for my wife’s birthday and we were not disappointed. This was during Norfolk restaurant week so I assume a slightly different menu than normal. The service provided by the staff was outstanding, despite there being only 4 of them. They were all working very hard but maintained a high standard throughout. The food was excellent. Small portions in size but big on flavour and still very filling. We also had some bar snacks which were super but meant no room for desert. Tried a couple of the cocktails which were expertly prepared by the barman. He wine was also very good. The ambience is relaxed enough but still feels special. One slight suggestion; hopefully it doesn’t appear snobbish but a cloakroom might be appropriate for a venu if this standard? You can buy almost anything you can see throughout the building (chairs/lampshades etc all with price tags). The quirky rooms such as the secret bookcase dining room look fantastic for a small private party. The small bar is also a really nice place to sit. I’d probably go there for just a drink if it was a little bigger (but maybe it’s not shooting for that piece of the market). We’d love to go back!

The whole Dial House experience is a must, we stayed in Africa and our family in Parisian. The rooms are decorated to style perfection and are quality, there has been no skimping on the furnishings. We had a three course evening meal and it was delicious as was breakfast the next day. The service in the restaurant did not disappoint and was timed to perfection and the waiting staff were attentive. I would highly recommend the Dial House to anyone and we will definitely be returning, the new owners have certainly made their mark and I applaude them for the attention to detail. Visited the Dial House for a birthday celebration with Family. On arrival 2 members of our party found the lady on the reception desk extremely rude & if they hadn’t been joining a family meal would have walked straight back out! She kept her head down looking at papers & did not acknowledge them for several minutes. On ordering drinks we were told that they were extremely busy, but did not expect to have to wait 15 minutes for drinks to arrive! We ordered a bottle of Prosecco & was told they didn’t have any champagne flutes left so served in normal glasses!! Service was generally very poor & slow & we frequently had to ask several times before our requests were dealt with. The food was good & so it is a shame to be so let down by the service. We felt very disgruntled that the service charge was automatically added to the bill, as quite frankly due to the lack of service & manner in which we were dealt with, we would certainly have not left this level of tip! A quirky character restaurant, have been before and would come again.
Obviously you won't please everyone with aspects of a dish, but on the whole, good food.
For outstanding, the experience would have to be faultless in meeting the full criteria, as an example, not having to ask for the wine list (only by the glass on the menu)

Many thanks

having used the Dial House for many years wanted to experience the new menu under new ownership. Food and Service very good and waitress knowledgeable about food choices. When I booked on line it asked about what the occasion was for. It was our Pearl wedding anniversary so an acknowledgement would have been good, but not the end of the world.

Our first visit since the change of ownership. As good as before, but why do so few restaurants serve food on hot plates? Cold plates guarantee that the food will be cold before it's finished.....I know that it's not peculiar to the Dial House, but this is a restaurant a cut above one in a pub, for example!

Also, a small niggle....we were seated by the counter in front of the Aga, where there's a door into the kitchen - it has a handle controlled fitting which means that everytime it was opened & closed (and there was a lot of coming & going....) it was noisy....removing the fixture or fitting something like a sprung-loaded ball would make it quieter!

Not having the 10% discount makes a difference, but still worth going again!

Staff pleasant and helpful, as always.

Although main course was tasty it was very small and spoilt by it being swamped in olive oil, on a brighter side we had sticky toffee pudding which was very nice.

The Dial House is a great restaurant in a beautiful historic building. Our food was excellent, with very good service, informal but very good. It was quiet when we dined (perfect for us), but I imagine it would have a buzz when busy. Recommended if in the area.

I booked a table for six people (one of those being an infant) for breakfast, for today. On arrival the front of house staff member was not very welcoming, instead of showing us to our table she pointed us to where we needed to go. It took 30 minutes to receive a cup of tea, 45 minutes after ordering to get a boiled egg and toast, which had no butter served with it and the toast was rock hard, when we asked for some the waitress went off but never came back with any. An hour after waiting we left not having any breakfast. Really disappointed after seeing the good reviews. Should not have to wait over an hour for breakfast.

I'd heard good reviews of the Dial House and was not disappointed. The staff were all extremely pleasant and well trained. The food was as expected and came without too much delay between courses.
