Felix , the manager , Harborne high street , has just sorted a food related issue out for me politely , professionally and efficiently. No questions , just wanting to satisfy his customer . What a great young lad . He will go far .

Not sure why such bad reviews - we thought it was excellent. Also rammed, queues out the door for takeaway so generally people must like it!

Just had the £5 Monday deal All I can say is absolutely fantastic amazingly cooked fresh. Hope it lasts for awhile because I might be coming every single Monday. 👌 family stuffed and happy

Came here for the first time last night (12th March) , my mums choice for her birthday meal a lovely chippie tea, and that it was! Service was lovely and the food was spot on. Although they had no mini cod left they compensated and gave us mini haddock that’s not on the menu. We loved the little rock sweets for afters too. Thank you to the staff for making my mums birthday a smooth one.

Fantastic Fish and Chip shop in the heart of Harborne. Excellent service backed by good quality fish and chips. Perfect for dining in or takeaway. We were greeted at the counter by friendly staff and were offered fried or baked fish, which is a great Idea. Clean, professional and good value. Recommended.

Lovely food, lunch special for £10 was good value. Monkfish was massive portion and perfectly cooked. Much improved from when we visited 3 or 4 years ago

A really nice and cosy experience! I tried the Tandoori kebak and I highly recommend it. The food is definitely worth the price - being in really large portions - and the staff are really nice and patient. I generally recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a nice, quiet and authentic dinner!

It was cold on the day, so not as warm as it would have been, if we had ate later in the evening. The food was lovely, and I'd definitely would eat there again

Quality has declined drastically. Chips were terrible, fish was passable.

Good chips but although fish is fried in rapeseed oil it is together with other meats which are not halal. So this place generally unsuitable from halal perspective unless just having chips. A shame because potentially a really good shop.

£22 for inedible dried out chips. Very disappointing.

Best fish and chips in Birmingham, by a looooong stretch.

Have been here a few times now. The staff are always very friendly and cheerful and the place is clean. The daily special fish and chip meal that is available from 12-4pm is definitely worth it. I was full for the rest of the afternoon! The kid’s meal is also generous, and they give the children plastic crockery/cutlery on top to enjoy their meal in. The ice cream as a pudding is worth it in that meal too. I will be returning to check out their other menu items.

Chips could do with a bit of extra cooking. Otherwise pretty good.

Lovely chips. Gluten free meant no batter of any description but fish was cooked nicely.

Got to say when I first tried them months ago they was not too bad after today don't think I'll be going back chips was chewing and hard way too much salt completely ruined the meal happen more then once now weird aftertaste wih chips also

Love chip shop with plenty of space for seating inside and out. Very clean and classy. Large fish and chips were delicious. Fish was clearly fresh and batter light and crispy. Chips freshly cooked. Cost was £12.70. Take out available. Lots of options (scraps, sauces, buttered bread etc). Fish was large and chips more than enough for the fish. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyable food. Different. Not the cheapest either but decent quality and great service. The portion of chips was huge, lovely fish (ordered a small cod but would be a large at many chippies) and the sauces (curry sauce and mushy peas..has to be done) were great too. I've read about the chips but we loved them. Not greasy at all which was brilliant. Trouble with Harborne is the parking (either busy or the feeling of having to pay outside of usual hours when there's plenty of options puts us off) so we don't often visit but would definitely return when we are off to Edgbaston or in the area.

Really lovely fish and chips great veggie option too , the cheese and onion fry is absolutely unreal and unique to anything I seen on a veggie menu in other places :) Lunchtime deal is so good as well, we worked outside all day not far from the shop and staff were super friendly and welcoming to us when we went in , this place deserves more recognition!

Mega expensive for what you get had a couple of pieces of meat rest was almost gone off salad 🥗 with a dry naan 11 pound for a kebab expected a lot better no wonder the place was empty

We have the lunch special of small cod and chips, curry sauce, mushy peas and tartare sauce plus a hot drink all for £10. The fish and batter was beautiful and the chips were excellent. Will definitely come back!

Sadly this order and the previous one have all been below acceptable level expected from Cods Scallop. The Cod as always is very tasty and Enjoyable BUT THE CHIPS ARE AWFUL. It would appear to us that the Chips have been refried because they were dry and most were hard and it was the same with our last order. Why serve up substandard food at the prices charged. Expectations should be 5 Star but this is way below an exceptable level. We never heard anything after our previous review and I don't expect to hear anything from this feedback. Are the Chips served in the Restaurant refried we very much doubt it Word of mouth is very powerful and sadly I expect we are not alone in our complaint Something needs to change or we will go elsewhere sadly Steve of Oldbury

I’m hoping it was just a bad day - a one off. But the standard of food tonight was off the mark. The fish and the chips had a slightly burnt smell. The batter was both over and under done. Prepared to pay a premium for quality, but this fell short

Good food and service, Not sure about the furniture, I had to change two chairs at the table as they were old and not stable, Had the chicken kebabs and chips, very good...

First visit here, avoided previously due to the low score but decided to give it a shot. Staff: Very friendly, engaging and amenable. Place: Well appointed take out and seating areas with approx 30 seats. Fish: Very fresh with a light crispy batter. Delicious. Chips: Below standard (though I ate them all) for a well known chippy. They have the overall vibe of Aviko King Fries though I don't know if they are rumbled and chipped on site or prepared and delivered. Could be better. A lot better. They seemed to be twice fried too. Really not sure. Will deffo return again. Mini fish with chips is £8.50 and you get a lot of chips.

The small fish & chip is actually pretty big and tasty, serves 1 person. The kids meal is very cute, comes in a small bucket with a shovel, and a package of activities! I recommend it!

Over priced and randomly started severely reducing its portions?

Food is delicious, but did not arrive hot. Another issue with any of the delivery companies as the restaurants do not provide the napkins and cutlery, even when you specifically ask for it. This is an issue because in my situation, I had no cutlery whatsoever and had to eat with my hands lol. This is not just scallops, it seems to be a phenomenon with many of the deliveries. if you want something extraordinary, the battered sausage is incredible. Delicious, unique, I just loved it.

Two items missing from the order, I called the shop that I ordered from the Cods scallops in Harborne and they said that just eat, left before picking up the other two items. They said Just eat should have made us ware but they didn’t and will be in contact and so far they haven’t contacted us. The shop said just eat will refund and I asked if the missing items could be sent out and this wasn’t an option, the lady just kept saying we can refund you. Not very good service and the food we did rece

I ordered a mini fish and chips and curry sauce on uber eats for this place for £12.20 and it was abysmal, tiny piece of fish in half filled box of chips that were disgusting. Avoid at all costs. They put the curry sauce in the damn box where my chips were meant to go! If I 2as closer id go to the shop and throw it in there bin!

We had the lunchtime special and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you can't eat fried fish they offer baked cod without the batter. The baked fish is also very nice.

Food cold, very late, when I contacted the fish shop they said they never had my order! Then it arrived a hour late, cold and disgusting

Food; absolutely rock hard horrible cold chips that were clearly fried hours ago and just shaken about before serving my order. Service ; miserable staff infact no customers every time I go. Atmosphere; completely dead. I’ve seen more life at a funeral. Honestly second time my chips turned out hard and cold . If I wanted cold food I would have gone anywhere. DONT buy food from here. Most of the foods high priced and waste of money if you get cold chips. I’ve had better service at Rubys Cantonese place opposite . Always warm food . Won’t be going to this chip shop again. Chucked the chips in the bin and cooked .

Never order from this restaurant - disgusting value for money - only 3 prawns allocated to the portion size for panko coated prawns at a cost of £8.60 via Uber Eats. Nothing indicated on website of portion size, when complaining to restaurant directly, totally disinterested staff with extremely bad attitude on phone - DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THIS RESTAURANT!

I had the scampi which was delicious. Nice place to eat with great service. My only slight gripe is that the scampi and chips meal doesn't come with peas or mushy peas so you have to order that as an extra which takes a £14 meal to £19 I think which feels like a lot for scampi and chips. But still enjoyable either way. Just a bit expensive.

Overpriced, chips were cold on arrival. Salmon was £15 something and was average if anything slightly overcooked. Wanted to try here as heard its the no.1 chippy. Wouldn't waste your time, can get better from your average chippy. Spent almost £40 for 2 meals. Ridiculous

By far the best thing about this place is its staff: helpful and polite. The food is overpriced fir what it is, and we felt we paid for lication and the fancy take out packaging. Contiments are extra- £1.20 per small pot, which pretty much sums up The Cod's Scallops...

I ordered online and was so disappointed. It was promoted by Uber Eats so thought it must be good. Let’s be real. This is not a proper fish and chip shop. It’s overpriced oven baked food. Someone buy these guys a deep fat fryer and teach them how to make a proper batter.

We ordered Goan monkfish curry and cod and chips for delivery via Deliveroo. The order arrived in good time. However the food was a big disappointment. The curry sauce was watery and the whole meal was almost completely devoid of any flavour. There was the very slightest hint of spice in the sauce, but just a hint. The cod was very oily, the batter was very dark, just short of burnt. The flavour of the fish was fine and the chips were ok but neither of the meals was especially hot. If this meal had been a quarter of the price, it would still have been a big disappointment, at around £50, this poor quality is unacceptable. This is our second time ordering from The Cod's Scallops. On the previous occasion we had the cod and chips and a chick pea curry, both of which were very pleasant.

Absolute disgrace. My colleague and I purchased food from this establishment and the chips were rock hard and the sausage/fish cake was not cooked. We took the food back and complained which they replaced the entire order and gave us free dips. Once returned back to the office guess what the chips again were hard and not cooked. Our business is on the high street however we will not have our lunch at this spot again. Such a shame.

Came here for my birthday treat ❤️ absolutely gorgeous food I tried fried oysters yummy 🤤🤤 I had plaice and salad my husband had the mini fish and chips but he wasn't impressed. And the cocktail 🍸🍸 went down very well. I can't wait to come back over again. Thanks for your service jobs well done ✅✅

We all enjoyed our fish and chip lunch. The lunch special is good value at £10 for fish, chips, mushy peas, tartar sauce, and tea or coffee. The restaurant has a lovely beach theme.

Best fish and chips I've ever had

Fish (cod) was nice as was the batter. The chips were good but not the best I've had. The atmosphere I only gave 2 stars because we were the only ones there (15:00).

Excellent 5 star plus restaurant where the food, service and cleanliness is top draw. Had the special fish and chips with extra curry sauce served by the lovely Rachel! Forget the bad reviews on here by people who obviously don't appreciate good food at a very reasonable price!! They do a loyalty card too where you get a free meal with your points. Will keep coming back here as its the best value in Harborne.

Nice place the chips are cooked way to high temp, crisp on outside and not cooked very well on inside :( the soup is very nice but hot as a thermal nuclear temp

Went in today for chips gravy and a drink. Chips wasn’t the best and it cost so much over £17 no knives or folks been given. I couldn’t wait to get out never again

Ordered and paid for a bottle of beer with my dinner that wasn't in the bag (despite the driver asking me for ID). Found a telephone number online - not in use. The only way to contact them is by an email I found on their own website. Seriously disappointed and unless it's corrected will not be using them again and telling everyone I know to avoid them.

i was very disappointed by my experience here. the halloumi fries were incredibly greasy, the fish smelled off (just couldn’t eat it), and the chips weren’t that good. also overpriced - over £7 for a small portion of battered halloumi?!!

Dissapointng & so overpriced! £7 for mini cod n chips - seen more food in a kids meal! Forgot to add the the salt & vinegar aswell & wouldn't allow to eat in, whilst few others were seated as said they were closing soon. Thats fine, but would have only taken few minutes due to the tiny portion! However, that's the customer service you get here - none! Go to chippy near Asda, by Gilbert Rd, in Smethwick & you can get mini chips for £1+ & you get a lot more & there so much nicer! Sorry, i wont be returning & seriously wouldn't recommend this place!!

Not only was the food incorrectly packaged and then erroneously blamed on the blameless delivery driver, but genuinely one of the worst meals I have ever eaten. Even the fish was bad?!

Poor chips, ordered a couple times via uber eats / deliveroo and each time the chips are not good, they taste of rancid oil, poor quality together with price means I wont be ordering from here again.

It's called the Cod's Scallops but yet was informed when ordering they don't do potato scallops, but yet they do a chickpea curry, what's that all about. It's not one of these high street fast food shops that sells pizza, chips, burgers, Currys and so on, so why the F don't they sell potato scallops? Granted the food was nice though. Otherwise it would have been a higher score.

First time using this fish and chips shop we are currently at the hospital and this was the nearest one. Not your usual chippy, food was ok nothing special, price was on the high side for the given portion. Curry sauce extremely watery.

Solo at counter waiting to order. 3 staff, 2 doing nothing, 1 on the phone, even when off the phone I wasn't even acknowledged by any of them. After that it was time to leave. Totally lame non-existent service. Went next door to Lebanese Munch instead, it was busy but still greeted with a smile and my order was instantly taken. Updated; answer to reply! Very good fish and chips. The cod is excellent with thin and crispy batter, not greasy. Very good pies. Wide variety of menu options and also a kids menu. This place is eat in or takeaway, with a good interior feel. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Ordered via a delivery service, one of the mains was entirely missing, no receipt provided so unable to report through website. What we did have was average at best, at a much inflated cost over more local places. Also the scallops seemed gritty somehow and there were chunks of shell mixed into the dressed crab meat. Was really looking forward to the food having not tried before, but based on this will never use them again.

Cod - a nice crispy piece for £9 Unlike some chip shops where the "cod" is a cheap cut of fish caked in heavy batter and gripping with grease for £4 Chips - nice and light & crispy bright yellow chips cooked in clean oil.

First time visit early Saturday evening. Nice atmosphere in the dining area, nice and simple seating. Good choice of different fish, cooked in different ways with varying sides means it far more than a chip shop!. I had a steak pie and chips which was very nice. The restaurant is licensed so we had a bottle of wine with dinner. Reasonable prices. Overall a nice dining experience.
