Really good cod and chips with additional battered sausage. Cod was a little greasy which is why 4 star this time. Will try again and hope to give 5 star next time. Service is quick and a fair price.

Been using this place for a few years now and not really had any issues however they have recently changed from bags to trays for their chips. A large used to go around 3 of us 2 adults and 1 child, now the portion sizes are so much smaller a large chips now only does 1 adult and a toddler. Not happy considering the prices haven’t changed to reflect the smaller sizes. It seems a large is now a regular and a regular is now a small, if you do order a large you’ll need to order 2 to be able to feed the same amount you did previously.

Food is good but haven't used for a while because on big orders something was always missing. Used tonight for convenience and the kids sausages were left in the cabinet so had to return to get them having gotten home to see they were missing.

Upon arriving at your shop, I had high expectations as I have previously enjoyed your offerings. However, to my dismay, the food I received was far from the quality I have come to expect. The chef seemingly prepared my order from a different source than the usual one, which was evident in the subpar quality. The chips, in particular, were notably hard, almost as if they were remnants from lunchtime that had been reheated, and the fishcakes were battered into soggy, oily sponges. Even the sausages, which are typically a delight, were disappointingly hard. I must regretfully say that the overall quality of the food was far from satisfactory. This experience was not reflective of the standard I associate with your establishment, and it left me with a sense of disappointment. I hope that you take this feedback constructively, as I have been a loyal customer in the past, and I genuinely want to see your shop maintain the high standards it is known for. I trust that you will address this issue promptly and take measures to ensure such a situation does not recur. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to the possibility of better dining experiences in the future.

Thought I'd try out my new local fish & chip shop, having moved to the other side of Hedge End. I have previously very much enjoyed J Henry's & I made a big mistake trying out somewhere new, the chips weren't crispy at all, felt like they'd been frying for a few minutes, the battered sausage was ok but I'd strongly urge anyone considering this shop, to stick with J Henry's, the BEST fish & chips in Hedge End, stick to what you know people! £7.90 felt wasted!

I went here on Tuesday and I had cod and haddock it was crispy and the batter was amazing very impressed

I came in a couple of days ago and the food and service was above the average standards would recommend.

Amazing cod special it was affordable and tasty.It was cooked to order but it was super fresh and tasty.

The wife and I had the Haddock Fillet and chips this evening. I often find chip shop fish to be tasteless but this was the best piece of chip chop fish we've had in years, the chips were lovely also. It's just around the corner from work so will definitely be using again. Highly recommended.

Placed an order for a regular chips and added cheese for an extra £2 , arrived home with my order for there to be barely a sprinkle of cheese, having previously ordered here this was not to their standard phoned up, spoke with the staff member who offered a replacement and refund, i returned to the store and said I’m happy with just a replacement as the service previously has been excellent to be greeted with fresh chips and a few slices of plastic burger cheese dropped on top, to say disappointed is an understatement, I’m absolutely dumbfounded.

I've put lower ratings than they deserve, reason being it depends what team is working, mostly very friendly and good food, but when the different team is working it's a bad atmosphere and the food suffers, I have also witnessed let's say someone should have more patience before they order staff around.

My friend recommended this place to me, and the truth is that it is quite good, the portions are generous and the food is fresh, perhaps the only thing but is that you have to wait a bit, but it is to be expected.

Bought fish and chips from here this evening for husband and myself and it was dreadful!!!! The fish was over cooked and dry. It was absolutely covered in dark heavy over cooked batter and just tasted of fat! The chips were also dry as well. I bought fish and chips from here a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't great the but nowhere near as bad as tonight. Was ok here but they seem to have had a change of staff and it is just a shambles. I certainly WON'T be going back again!!! Former regular customer.

Never had good chips from here no matter how many years apart or time of day. J Henry's is the same standard. Chips look like reheated offcuts from lunchtime. Do there regular customers, if there are any, ever compare with quality from different shops. Or am I just very very unlucky.

We were disappointed, not up to the usual standard. The chips were shriveled and cold and the batter was not crispy on the fish. I paid 50p for a sachet of tartar sauce, I was told it would be in the bag, when I got home it had not been put in the bag.i am not sure we will be going back there.

Ordered a takeaway from here for the first time using Deliveroo. The menu is good & very reasonably priced. The food turned up on time & was hot, delicious & plenty of it. Happy to recommend & will definitely be using again.

I have been going to this fish and chip shop for many years. Never had a bad meal. Their portions are generous and I would not go anywhere else.

With work colleagues we often get a take away on pay day. Service is always good. Food is very good, place is spotless and prices are competitive. We will continue to use it.

Heard great things about this plaice (ho ho) but was bitterly disappointed, the fish was very greasy and the batter was overcooked. There is another local chippy that is far better.

Went and got some food tonight from The CodFather Slightly on the pricey side. But to be honest the cost of living at the moment is so high I’m sure this has affect on there stock also However more then make up with it with food quality Chips were lovely Also sausages were great Would defo recommend giving it a go Will be back

I was really disappointed with our meal purchased from the Cod-Father yesterday evening September 9th 2022. When I got it home, the fish was burned and had to be thrown away. I was as disappointed by the fact that they must have known ( it was obvious with the batter being dark brown) what they were doing and they just fobbed me off. The usual fryer was not there, but that is no excuse. I have been coming to this shop for years and this is the first time this has happened, but they have just lost a customer who regularly bought from them. I really don't understand what they were thinking?

I came inside, and then saw all of the delicious food on the menu, which left me undecided on what I wanted to order. I asked Rob if he had any specials on which he then stated was behind me.. my friend Gemma was behind me and she took offence which was cleared up after a proper laugh. The chips here are always fantastic and prices reasonable. I was asked if I wanted salt and vinegar and whether we wanted a bag, whether there was anything else they could do for me and as a valued and regular customer I had no issues writing a review. I've been coming for years and drive a good 20 minutes even though there are plenty of closer places. Definitely recommend.

We live in West End and have been appalled at the low quality of fish and chips in the area until we visited the Cod Father. This is the 6th shop we have visited and it is by far the best in the area. The shop and staff are immaculate and the food very well cooked and presented.

After 22 years I don’t think we will be coming back. £3 for a regular chips is heavy and to add insult you made the portions smaller. Come on guys you make good food and I know costs are up but this feels like a double hit

The chips were too salty. The food is nice. Enjoyed their curry and ice cream. Convenient, close by. You can order ahead. They also do deliveries.

I've been to this fish and chip shop about four times each time there been no chips cooked or fish anything you want is to order I mean its a fish and chip shop surely they should have chips ready if nothing else when I arsked how long chips would be the assistant who I might add looked like she didn't want to be there said about ten minutes the bloke who works there is arrogant and unhelpful won't be going back this is cod father at shambllehurst Lane I'm sure I'm not the only person who has been unhappy about the shop owners need to sort it out having said all of that food was OK

Cod was fresh cooked but the batter was oily and soggy. Chips were stale. All in all a poor experience and £ 8.00 lighter for a very poor quality product. The company blurb says otherwise but personal experience tells another story. Sent an email on their website with no response .

We visited tonight. I loved the name 'The Codfather'. The shop was very clean, you order from the door. The staff were very friendly and polite. I ordered cod and chips, battered sausage and chips, and a child's chicken nuggets and chips. The cod was thick and chunky covered in crispy batter, chips were thick and hot, proper ish and chip chips. Battered sausage was nice and crispy. Child's meal was a good size and came with a drink. Oh and the curry sauce was nice and thick.

Not impressed with the service I received. Staff were rude and unwelcoming. Chips were dry and didn't taste very nice. It's a shame as this used to be a nice fish and chip shop but now it seems to have gone downhill. The new staff working there need some training in manners.

Great Fish n Chips shop, well cooked delicious food with a variety of choices. They even allow you to call up and place your order ahead of time to bypass their sometimes large wait times. Very friendly staff, would recommend.

Waited 20 minutes for a 'chicken' burger. Was clearly a frozen chicken burger stuck in a bun. They didn't even give me any salad, no lettuce or sauce or anything. Had already drove off so couldn't be bothered to drive back. Charged me nearly £4 for it too... Never again.

We visited yesterday and paid 4.20 for a bag of fat congealed chips and a sausage with cooking oil running out of it. We throw most of it in the bin. The attitude of the staff is very poor and they really dont care what people think. This is the second bad experience we have had and will never return. A previously great chip shop ruined by jokers that cannt cook or run a business. When reading others positive reviews one does wonder whether they are friends or associates of the shop! BEWARE.

Downhill - so disappointing We visited this evening to pay expensive charges for congealed chips and sausage that was dripping in fat. The young man who served us was curt and acted like he was doing us a favour serving us. We last visited a year ago and had a similar experience. This used to be a great stop off the M27, but the people who now run it really haven't a clue. l suspect the positive reviews are not independent as this really is now a poor chip shop, We will never return. Off to wash my mouth and hope am not sick in the night.

So the first time we ordered from here when visiting family the order was incorrect and there was missing items from the order that we were charged for. When questioned they blamed the just eat driver but when probed agreed it wasn’t the just eat drivers fault as they were the ones to pack the bag!! I didn’t want to write a bad review as you want to give people a chance especially during lockdown however to have another BAD experience with them is just simply disappointing!! We ordered pie and they were obliterated.......I know they have to cook them from frozen bug they clearly had the oven too high and if I took pride in what I was serving I would not provide them then to customers! Absolutely terrible and I would not order from here again!!!

I was here a while back and as a fish and chips lover from across the pond, this place definitely appeased my craving. great staff and great food. give this place your business next time u are in southhampton. better yet make the drive from london because i know i will post-covid.

Food was fine, wasn't for me. However having to wait in the pouring rain, not knowing why the queue wasn't moving. Had to walk past the 6 people in front to ask why I was waiting? Only to be told the card machine was down, no problem at all, but when there was 5 people working inside, no one thought to take the initiative and ask everyone to either get money from the local cash point, or if anyone, like myself, had cash? Not rocket science and ended up getting soaked. Will try somewhere else next time.
