The Cocoabean Cafe in Dumfries & Galloway

As tourists to this part of Scotland for many years, we always visit this place with the kids each time. They love it. This year they participated in the easter egg class and the young woman who took the session was great with them. The indoor and outdoor area are still well kept and the cafe is good too. Overall a great way to spend a day/afternoon.

We booked onto an Easter Egg making session and it was fab. Our 2 girls aged 11 and 8 had a great time and came away with 2 large bespoke eggs and 8 mini eggs. The facilitator, Steph, was really friendly and patient with the girls making the whole experience throughly enjoyable on a wet morning. Would definitely recommend.

Wow the lemon meringue Easter egg is absolutely heaven,I shared it with my husband as I broke my diet to treat myself lol so didn’t feel so bad just eating half! 😂 if you’ve a sweet tooth and adore lemon flavour you will be in lemon heaven.🤤

Booked family workshop as non dairy for two people. Reminded reception non dairy on arrival as directed. Unfortunately we had to remind again in workshop when offered white or brown milk chocolate and heard faciltators confer about the fact they had forgotten that three of us (from two different parties) were non dairy. Choices of materials for non dairy poor unfortunately. Orange liquid to paint on mould wasn't suitable consistency and didn't stick well to mould, it pooled in centre instead. For second item others got a choice of two colours of milk chocolate, we didn't and were offered only single coloured material. For third item others got marshmallows and chocolate we just got the chocolate. Sad when we paid £3 extra each and vegan marshmallows are easily available locally ( e.g In Castle Douglas Sunrise shop). Offered vegan jelly sweets to match other jelly sweets others got which was appreciated. Facilitators young and their chat is at a basic level....i had thought we might have got some info such as how chocolate is made etc but it felt as though chat was aimed at children about 6 or 7 years old. Soft play and outdoor play areas good. Cafe reasonably priced, large and all areas were clean. I live locally and had hoped this would be a real treat but it was just OK. I would go back to use cafe but wouldn't go back to a workshop.

Disappointed it's a kids play facility with a chocolate shop on the side .

Cocoabean chocolate factory located 40 minutes from Dumfries is by the best chocolate making experience both my kids enjoyed, be it the chocolate mould making, chocolate bar making, chocolate face painting or lollypop making and the staff were so friendly and well explained every bit of the process. The outside play area is also so nice, something kids would love aswell, area around the factory is so peaceful, food menu choice has a huge selection with good size portions A truly great place for a family day out....well done to the staff and the team for maintaining such a lovely place. Highly Highly recommended

My wife and I went for the adult chocolate making experience. It was a great day out, something different to do. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

I ordered The Crunchy One and the little hearts because I was seeing them all over tiktok and got excited to try it as everyone was making it seem like it’s the best thing ever and when I did try it I was disappointed…not so much at the chocolate but at the amount of hype around it. I tasted no pistachio AT ALL and the chocolate bar taste like a regular kinder bueno just extra crunchy which was disappointing but it’s still good 🤷🏽‍♀️ Other than the taste being okay and nothing special the quality was good as the bar was really heavy, packaged and decorated nicely.

Great workshop with friendly tutors, Indoor play amazing although young children can get a bit lost in it and it's difficult for adults to get through some sections. Overall value for money although a reasonably expensive family attraction.

Really enjoyable experience. Will visit again next time we are up here.

Visited with our kids (5&3) and was so surprised with what we found. Kids did a chocolate workshop whilst we had a coffee. The indoor soft play and outdoor playground are a welcome addition. Definitely would recommend if you’re in the area.

A really good experience. We had lunch and the children had a good run around the indoor play area. We then went into making the chocolate, which was brilliant and the kids loved it. After the chocolate experience, the kids played in the outdoor play area. A great day out, well worth the money with some brilliant staff who made the experience.

Great place food good plenty to do Staff friendly

grandchildren had a great time, despite the lateness of the season the place was well kept and clean, the meals were great and the soup was plentiful and in a big bowl. Great value.

This is my second time visiting. We had a lovely time at the family workshop and also within the play area. It's great value for money with the items you get to make and the kids are able to make a lot of mess, too! Fun for all ages.

Wow! What a fun day out. We went in and our class was really quiet. There was 3 other people, including 3 of us. The staff are so kind and the facility is amazing. The outdoor playground is really well done, and has lots of slides and moving bits. They have an inside soft play and it was really good. It is quite high so adults can go in. The class was so interactive, and their cafe was amazing. I would definitely recommend going if you can!

Bought the pistachio chocolate and it was supposed to be crunchy and the insides just oozed out everywhere . I am not happy as this was expensive and they won’t refund so wouldn’t order from them ever

The workshop was really fun also both of the play areas, indoors and outdoors, were quite large but the best thing of all was how amazing the chocolates tasted!

Good value for money with the chocolate making , the wee man had a great time and you get to make 3 things each and eat the left over chocolate from decorating and take the spare sweets home 😇 . Cafe food was good, play area was great for the wee man, staff were all friendly and helpfull, overall everyone had a great time.

£21 entry seemed a little steep but great value for money. The staff are friendly and great with the kids and big kids alike. You make 3 different chocolate treats with lots of variety. You also have access to the indoor soft play and outdoor pirate ship play areas for the time you're there. The cafe was nice with the standard assortment of chocolate treats and drinks. It was great fun for the day I would highly recommend.

The family and I stopped here for a tea break on our way to Edinburgh. If you're ever passing by drop in and give the Special Hot Chocolate a try! They're awesome!

We visit to let the kids burn off their energy while we, as parents, can sit with drinks and relax. Prices have jumped this year, but then everywhere has. Overall we love the place, but my wife ordered the Hunters Chicken Loaded Fries, with chicken, bacon and BBQ sauce with cheese over fries. The chicken was spicy southern fried, which she doesn't like, no bacon and not much BBQ sauce. Very disappointed.

We took 2 of our grand kids today, to start with we thought £21 each was expensive but after watching them make there own chocolate bar Plus a couple of other things it was money well spent. They had a great time.there is also loads of other things for them to do.a great morning had by everyone. We will be back with our other grandchildren when they visit.

This place is absolutely amazing, so much to do inside and outside, the play areas are outstanding, the food is outstanding and the chocolate experience is outstanding too. You could be here all day no problem.

Great place for the kids, great soft play and outside there is so much to see and do and making chocolate is super fun too. Staff are friendly and helpful and the whole place is spotless. My only problem is the food prices, they seem to have doubled since last time we went! When your charging £15 for a fish finger sandwich then you’re not making it that family friendly!

Ordered a couple of the popular Pistachio Crunchy One Chocolate Bars to share with my family and after waiting over a week for delivery we were utterly disappointed .The quality of the bars is bad , they taste sickly sweet , we’ve eaten good quality chocolate many times in our lifetime and this is absolutely not it for us . We now have a full bar and a half of chocolate left since nobody is willing to eat it . I also find the company very unprofessional in communicating , no emails were sent informing us on delivery times etc Overall a very expensive bad tasting chocolate . Avoid !!!

We have just finished the chocolate workshop with Sarah. Absolutely brilliant for kids old and young 🤣 Your welcome to eat the chocolate and sweets your given to make your creations as your given plenty. Sarah was very engaging and asked about our favourite sweets chocolate etc and smiled the whole time. Keep the moulds so you can make your own chocolate again at home between us we got a unicorn a car and a bunny . There is also a large castle and pirate play area outside with a maze inside the castle ,panning for "gold" , slides and loads more. There's a play area inside aswell. Cafe food portions are huge and fairly priced

Great fun for the kids, our grandchildren loved it, and we had fun too. The only downside was probably the price of the food and drinks, that we found quite expensive. It was almost £100 for 4 of us for making chocolate, so worked out a lot when we included food and drink as well.

Expensive for a chocolate session but we'll worth it as you make several things and take them home. The grandkids absolutely LOVED it! Session about 45-60 mins long. Play area indoors and outdoors. Lovely cafe serving very good quality food and not the usual menu. Wonderful cakes. Needless to say we purchased a selection of chocolates! Delicious.

Fab place, good value. And... bonus...electric car charging points. Buy chocolate whilst charging your car. What's not to like?

Went today for our sons birthday today £23 per child, worth the money, they got to make 3 different things, a lolly, chocolate bar and you got to pick what your other chocolate wanted to look like ours did a love heart, dinosaur and a rabbit. The girl who showed and help them what to do was lovely. The soft play is really good, unfortunately they didn't go outside due to the rain but looks really good so we are going to go back when it's warmer. Very lovely staff. Would highly recommend.

Great day out well worth the money

Great staff, lovely chocs. We arrived 20mins before closing, to charge our car up, and the staff had just finished clearing up, but still allowed us to head a cuppa and done chocs.

Outdoor play area is great, my 8 year old daughter didn’t want to leave, best part is adults don’t pay for admission, we didn’t do the chocolate making but the cafe was nice for light meals and snacks

Fantastic day out with Grandkids. Chocolate factory was brilliant staff were great kids loved it. Soft play was fabulous. And the outdoor area was fab too .Place spotless clean Their was only one negative was the cafe very poor service staff didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing waited ages for food to be served 1 item then another meal 15 minutes later. Maybe short staffed Food was good though when it did finally arrive. All and all a brilliant day out

Had a brilliant time doing a chocolate workshop with our little one, there was lots of delicious white and milk chocolate to try, on top of getting to make and take home 3 x items. It was a really fun experience and worth the money. As an added bonus, there is an absolutely superb soft play area and cafe, you could literally spend a couple of hours here easily, again adding value to the money spent on the workshop. There’s also a huge outdoor play area/frame, unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to try this out due to the weather but it looked fantastic. Very appealing place for families, would recommend. Well worth a visit!

Brilliant for all ages, my 6 year old and my partners 11 year old loved it. Also £6 for soft play which is cheaper than most places around. This included outside but it was shut due to weather. Will be coming back again soon.

Great place to entertain children, young and old. Look at f/b for what is on. Great Christmas events for run up to the main event, and the marquee is fantastic for weddings, attention to detail is amazing.

Didn't do any if the workshops so can't comment on that, but for £9 you get access to the soft play and outdoor play. You can't see much of the soft play from the seating area, but my little one seemed to love it. The outdoor play is cool too (pirate and castle themed). It does look slightly dated though, and could maybe do with a refresh. The scones, coffee, and got chocolate were great!

A very good place to take kids. The workshop, soft play and outdoor play is well worth the money. Food in the cafe is average and I really do not recommend the chicken wings, they are very dry. But overall it is well kept, loads to do and very friendly staff.

Attended for a conference with about 100 others. Lots of parking spaces. Marquee normally a wedding venue was perfect for this away day. Delicious lunch, bought hand made chocolates to take home.

A little pricey but the kids enjoyed it a lot, loads of fantastic outdoor and indoor play areas. The giant cookie was to die for!

I ordered from the online shop for mine and my partners first anniversary. It arrived fairly fast. They even included a chocolate bar saying happy 1st anniversary which my partner loved so much. Loved the experience. We did a family chocolate session and the people running it were superb. It is expensive but you get a lot for your money. The softplay is insane and the outdoor area is good weather permitting. Would definitely recommend

Stopped by to purchase some chocolate. The chocolate basically tasted like cardboard. Hoping it was just an off day for them!

I've been visiting here for a few years and unfortunately it's starting to go down hill. The outdoor play area is great but is looking a bit run down nowadays, various apparatus had been removed and old broken dinosaur displays sit around looking a bit unloved. The indoor play area is a little dangerous and you can't see where your kids are. Also on warmer days it's stifling inside... The food choice is good but prices have begun to get a bit silly, £2 for a can of coke, £14 for some meals. The service isn't great either as most of the staff seem to still be in school. We haven't tried the chocolate workshops as the general consensus is that you just melt some chocolate and stick a few sweets on. We have tried a variety of their chocolates but wasn't impressed with the taste. Sadly I think we will start to look for other family venues in the future.

Booked the chocolate factory for 2 adults and our 3 year old. We loved this part- we got to eat lots of melted chocolate and make a chocolate shape of our choice, a chocolate bar and a marshmallow creation this lasts about 45- 50 mins. This part I would give 5 stars. Afterwards the soft play inside was quite big this is included in your price - to a toddler it does look amazing - unfortunately to an adult - at the top there a few very dark tunnels lots of kids crying being scared of the dark, bolts were showing and mats were slipping about. The outside park this was brilliant very large pirate ship bridges, slides and a zip slide. Benches to sit around the park too. There is also a little bit where you can do some gold panning - no bad points here just that they're alot of part of the outside half finished - chairs blocking a part that was leading to a very dangerous unfinished site....chairs that kids could have got past - don't feel like this was cordoned off properly for a work site. So I would advise not letting your kids run ahead if your going out the back doors to play area. The very expensive cafe £8 for a cheese panini that really wasn't up to much. They got my husbands order wrong due to the girl behind the till before finishing my order turned to her collegeue and started to talk about how nice her hair was...... although they did apologise and were quick to correct it and offer a free coffee - I just felt that it's a bit on the pricey side for the food. Advice would be take a picnic! As much as I've put some negative here it is a great place to visit and loved the chooclate making part and we came away smiling and my 3 year old didn't want to leave. I would visit again.

A fab day out for children. Indoor and outdoor play, chocolate workshops, and too many chocolates to tempt you in the gift shop. You definitely need to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Went here 7 years ago with our eldest, now our here with our youngest, and now she has experienced the greatness of the cocoabean company. Chocolate making class 5 stars, soft play 5 stars, outdoors play 5 stars, the food 5 stars. Shop 3 stars, the shop aiming at kids, and I get that, but I know you (cocoabean) sell more than what you offered here( which you sell at rheged penrith), which was a huge shame as I wanted to buy more things.

Was great fun with my autistic daughter, looked after too. Though was £43 for both of us, lasted half hour. Took lots of chocolate home we made ☺️

Good place to spend 2 to 3 hours. My daughter went to the chocolate workshop and she loved it.

Great place to go for kids and adults. We've visited twice now for the chocolate making activity and it's good fun and is value for money. I love the customer service too. I received an email reminder the day before my booked event took place, and I also received an email afterwards to thank me for visiting. If my family is back in the area again, I'm sure we will return 🙂

An absolutely amazing experience. The kids loved it. The staff are warm and friendly and the chocolate is divine. So many different flavours to choose from. I would definitely recommend to others.
