The Coco Tree in Cheshire West and Chester

The food was scrumptious, we enjoyed two types of lamb curry and there an explosion of flavours in these dishes. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the service was fantastic. We thoroughly recommend this wonderful restaurant and looking forward to visiting again soon!

Our first visit whilst enjoying a day out in Chester with family. Restaurant was chosen from a glowing review in The Guardian a few years ago. Delighted to confirm that the food is still superb! Portion sizes are generous, but if you are really hungry the Dosas are a must. We appreciated the helpful advice from the genuinely friendly staff whilst choosing our meals. The restaurant was deservedly busy and well lit and comfortable. We felt that it was good value for money for such good quality food. I enjoyed my Masala Dosa served with various chutneys and sambar, it was massive and beautifully flavourful. The Malabar Lamb Peralan was so tender and delicious and tasty without being too spicy. I shared a dessert with my husband and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious Pineapple Kesari, which was the finishing touch to a delicious culinary experience.

Visited for the first time with friends and certainly was not disappointed. The restaurant is clean, friendly and has a good atmosphere. The menu was varied and suited our friend who is a vegetarian, with lots of choice. Portion size was good and service unhurried and professional. Will definitely be returning when in Chester again.

Simply wonderful! We called in on the off chance of a table for 4 on a Saturday night and we were cheerfully accommodated. It was busy and had an hour and a half before the table was next needed. The staff are so lovely, smiley and nothing is too much trouble. Food was tasty (peshwari nan enough for 2 persons, it's to die for!) The mango and ice-cream Sundae was beautiful, really refreshing (i'd rather have not shared it though!) Overall, really good value for money, plenty of choice and excellent service in clean surroundings. This is our second visit and we will be back.

We had a really lovely meal here. The decor is modern and bright. The menu offers a range of South Indian Cuisine and some dishes we hadn’t tried before. Service was friendly and attentive. All the waiters were lovely. We had onion bajis to start which were delicious. We had to leave some as it was a very generous portion. For mains I had Mangalore Chicken which was delicious I asked for medium spice and it had a good level of heat. My husband had Chettinad Lamb. Both dishes were again generous in size with unique flavours. We shared a pilau rice and a plain naan bread. Couldn’t fault anything about our experience and would definitely return.

We tried this place after reading all the rave reviews but we we’re sadly disappointed with the food, definitely not authentic and very bland, had better tasting microwave curry’s, the restaurant itself was very nice and clean just a shame about the food

Welcoming, friendly, helpful, attentive staff. Interesting non typical menu. Hot, fresh, tasty food. We went for a meal then went again the next night. Good value for money too. Happy to recommend.

I will say the food is very good here.... Ambience too is nice... But what the place lacks is there is no warm welcome especially the man I think he is a supervisor there... this is d second time I hv a very bad experience with him.N the worst thing about him is he never wants to listen from the customer perspective...he keeps defending himself...I wish I knew his name... but he seems to b a supervisor as he was not in uniform. Even though I love the food there I will never go back to that restaurant only cos he has spoilt my entire visit. N being from n hospitality indeed myself his act of impoliteness has hurted me.

Loved the modern vibe of Kokonut Grove. There was a warm welcome and an interesting menu. The fennel lamb curry and peshwari nan I had were piping hot and very tasty. I wish this restaurant was near to where I live; I’d be in there all the time….

Service very good, restaurant is very smart and even the crockery has been given a lot of thought. i felt the food which although good could have been just a little better and more interesting.

Loved Koconut Grove! It doesn’t look great from the outside but the staff were great and the food was really nice. I’d run the Chester Marathon earlier in the day so did indulge a little and tried a few things 😂 It was all great but the naan bread was amazing - so light and soft. The staff were really attentive, drinks came quickly (had some bottled alcohol free beers and a regular draft Cobra). Nice atmosphere and was surprisingly busy for a Sunday early evening.

We visited for the Sunday lunch buffet. This is excellent value. A good range of items were offered but dishes kept running out (despite the fact it was not particularly busy) and were very slow to be replaced. Did staff just not monitor the buffet table attentively-enough? Most items were named (but not everything) and it would help if labels indicated the heat level. Some things were ferocious Service is friendly

Monday evening and this place was almost full which shows how popular it is. We were staying in the Premier Inn so it’s next door. All the usual Indian dishes, cooked and served up really well. Large portions and nice staff too so what more would you want, altogether a nice meal out and at a reasonable price.

Amazing food, great service and a surprise cake for my daughters 21st birthday. Don’t be deceived how this place looks from the outside it is a great Indian. The fact it is also very reasonably priced is the icing on the cake!

We were a large post races group looking forward to their quite varied menu. We had a range of everything. Popadoms as standard but the pickle tray was a bit too yoghurt/cream focused. Starters wise I had the chicken 65 which was deep fried chicken with spices. Nothing special. Those who had dosas were stunned by the theatre of the size of the bread. My main was a chilli chicken. It was OK and with decent spice but again not that special. Other dishes seemed to go down well. Rice portions were generous and naans were fine. Cobra and Kingfisher on draught as expected. Plus an IPA. Service was good enough. Location wise it’s underneath a fairly modern building of apartments. The finish and ambiance of the restaurant is a bit clinical with little sense of authenticity. Wanted to like it more.

Very decent place full of knowledgeable diners in a contemporary setting served by friendly and efficient staff. My salmon curry was faultless and my partners biriani had a very home-made taste. Quality was matched with quantity and we struggled to eat half. This may have been due to our unwise choice to share a potato stuffed dosa as a starter which to be honest was a little under spiced but we could not complain about the portion size. The accompanying Nan was a little pale and we wondered how long it had been inside the tandoor if it had at all. But overall a very pleasant evening in Chester

Had dinner here with a foreign colleague - a superb introduction for him to well-cooked, well-spiced, flavour-full Indian food. We had to wait a little while (we arrived without a reservation on a Tuesday!) but the wait was worthwhile. In addition to the excellent food, the service was outstanding. I left my reading glasses on the counter when I paid, but when I rang the next evening, they had kept them and I sent an envelope and they were good enough to put them in the post. Thank you! I will come back.

I have passed this place many times but I guess I was put off by it being a more modern building (I’m used to the typical a smaller older high street type venue). I’m so pleased I arranged for a family meal here. It was excellent. The staff were welcoming and provided excellent service. The food was delicious and nicely presented, with some different than usual dishes to choose from. The wine list did the business!

Tremendous from start to finish, staff extremely professional and friendly, attentive to your every needs. Food is fabulous, South Indian cuisine is fairly new to me but all 3 dishes I had were out of this world. I'd recommend the Malabar Lamb Peralan, melts in the mouth and perfect blend of herbs and spices. Please give this place a visit if your ever in Chester.

Friendly staff. Attentive and good service. The food was extremely tasty and medium spicy was just right. The chef did an amazing job producing quality authentic South Indian dishes. Despite being nearly a full restaurant the turnaround for food was good. Highly recommended. Thank you to all staff for their efforts.

We were recommended this by the owner of a coffee shop in Chester just after we arrived in the city and we are so glad he did. We stayed two nights in Chester and went to Coconut Grove both nights - it was that good. The staff are very professional, but in a relaxed, friendly way - an ideal balance. The food is simply stunning, with a strong leaning towards Kerala. We recommend it without hesitation and will return if we are in this area again.

We came on the recommendation of a friend from South India and we were not disappointed at all. There was so much choice, and what I liked was that there were many different dishes on the menu that you wouldn’t usually get in other Indian restaurants. I tried a chicken dosa for the first time (pictured) and it was huge so I was glad we were sharing!

This is one amazing restaurant. I'm a fuss pot when it comes to food but this place blew my mind. I love Indian food and curry is probably my fave, this is a south Indian restaurant so slightly different to your normal curry but OH MY GOD I'm converted. The chef here is top class.. I have never tasted food like it. My new obsession, I'll be back very very soon. Well deserved 5 stars if I could give more I would. Highly recommend.

Some of the best Indian food, I’ve ever had, the masala fried fish to start and the tandoori chicken, the chilli naan had plenty of heat, which was delicious, is the most moist dishes I’ve ever had, and the service was so good you couldn’t fault it definitely be back.

Delicious food served in a lovely environment. The staff were excellent in manners and service. Nothing was too much to ask of them. They explained the items on the menu to us. Helpful & friendly staff and great food. Good wine list and the draught Cobra beer is excellent. We will be back.

This restaurant was booked by a friend for our mutual birthday celebration.

It has become a favourite. We have been twice and we will go back again. Great menu with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Maybe the service can improve a touch (speed), but to be fair it was very busy both times.

For authentic south indian food, this place cant be beaten! The dosa is incredible and the naan is perfect! We had 4 curries and they all tasted different and very fresh! Front of house is very professional too! Well worth a visit!

I’ve been to all the Indian restaurant in Chester. The food at this is very good, all the dishes are well prepared and spiced just right.

I'm Chester born and bred - but have lived in London since I was a teenager. On the rare occasions I come back to Chester, it's always interesting to check out the food.

Staff were very attentive and it got very busy, but the food is at the higher end of normal Indian restaurants and the prices are very reasonable.

We were visiting Chester for the weekend and this restaurant was recommended by someone at our hotel .

We were really impressed with our meal which was delicious and obviously freshly cooked to order. This restaurant is very clean, nicely lit and decorated and has a good ambience and pleasant staff. Good value too. My only criticism would be that we had to wait a bit too long for our main courses but they were well worth waiting for! We will be sure to visit again.

Having to wait was not ideal(especially as we had booked), but that apart, we enjoyed the evening. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Koconut Grove has an extensive menu and , as always, our selected dishes were tasty.

The food in Koconut Grove is delicious and very authentic in taste. We had the squid starter, a chicken and a prawn curry, makhani dahl and lemon rice. The restaurant is very clean and has quite a lot of tables. However it is still necessary to book in advance as on a weekend it is very popular. There is parking along the road leading from the station or up the ramp by he side of the restaurant.

If you like really hot Indian food then you'll enjoy it here, but as I'm not a fan of really hot, so when the menu says they'll make any dish mild but it still comes out hot, it's annoying.

We were invited here by friends who live in Chester. They had visited a number of time and had been effusive about the food. As promised, the food was very different to the usual ‘Indian’ meals that we had had. Excellent flavours and good sized portions - the naan was the best ever. Service was excellent too!

Couldn’t have picked a better place to have my daughters birthday meal. We don’t live in Chester, travelled from lincoln to stay over and visit the zoo and Cheshire oaks, so did some research to find a really special place to eat and celebrate. We were not disappointed.

Recently visited Here with my partner and OMG food and staff were absolutely amazing. Will definitely be visiting a lot more often. Food was amazing and staff were attentive and very friendly. Chester has a true Gem with the Koconut Grove, a true credit to South Indian Cuisine.

Went on spec last night the wife and myself ,got there about 7:30 place was buzzing but they got us a table: I am 60 years old and had a few Indian meals but the one I picked (the spicy tomato with chicken made extra spicy) was. One of the best absolutely awesome

Delicious authentic South Indian food in a modern westernised Asian environment. Consistently reliable for a great value Sunday lunch. @. £9.90 per head. Situated conveniently for the train station and within walking distance of the city centre sights and shops.

Great restaurant dishes a lot more interesting than your standard Indian korma, vindaloo and Tandoori fare. Busy for Bank Holiday Monday so a good sign. Papadums came with different dips to usual Mango, lime and onion which was good. Crispy Fried Koonthal - squid with Hot Chilli sauce was very good. Chettinad Lamb - stunning!! Tender pieces of lamb cooked in a curry sauce with roasted spice - it was delicious. Big bowl of Pilau rice and Peshwari Naan were lovely sides. Really, really good restaurant!!!

Lovely atmosphere, very attentive staff, but felt our means lacked depth of flavour. I began with spicy lamb rolls which were tasty although the coating was rather hard. My main course of chicken korma was especially mild and lacking in flavour. My wife's tandoori chicken was similarly bland.

Our first visit here. Advise to book as gradually got busy during the evening with very few tables left.

Found this restaurant whilst walking around. Didn't book walked in. We were lucky to get a table. The staff were very friendly and polite. The meal was a litre wait but well worth the wait. Absolutely gorgeous. Good price to. Shame we are just visiting the town.

I highly recommend this restaurant with its modern, spacious decor and comfortable ambience. The staff are friendly, efficient and helpful without being intrusive. Most importantly, the food was fabulous and I really wish I knew of somewhere of similar standard where I live!

We had some friends from Switzerland staying eith us and they wanted to take us out for ameal and asked us what we would recommend. We had been to Kerala last November and really enjoyed the food there, and as we had always wanted to try the Coconut Grove, we thought to try there. Also there had been some very good reviews in the Guardian newspaper.

When we are in this area we make a point of booking to go to this restaurant. The food is extremely good and so tasty, there is so much choice, far more interesting dishes than we get in many restaurants. The staff are very pleasant.

Tried because if good reviews and not disappointed. lovely modern and spacious, with attentive service. All good was lovely and fresh the egg fried rice and naan bread were the best I think I've ever had.

This is a fabulous restaurant very fresh taste to the food, the tables are well spaced, we had a lovely quiet table that we requested. The service was quick and we were not rushed to complete our meal.

Five of us went for lunch here. It specialises in southern Indian food. The food we had was delicious. Importantly for some people each dish is either marked as gluten free (gf)

This restaurant is a little away from the centre of Chester but well worth trying, lovely modern interior with a warm welcome feeling. The staff were all very nice and the food very nice to, and good on price.

Had dinner during my visit to Chester. Really nice food and you can use tastecard. When I arrived by 6 was an empty but it was busy and full after an hour. Worth a visit.

We arrived in this place by chance whilst exploring Chester. It was Valentine’s weekend so the place was packed at 7:30pm. We were told we could book for later, I had a good vibe about this place and we booked.

Fantastic curry bringing me right back to my time spent in south India! Immaculate service and premises! Really worth it!

I took my daughter for a meal here on the basis of a strong press review and also because I am a big fan of dosai. The dosa I had was excellent, crisp and the king prawn filling beautifully spiced. My daughter went for the cauliflower curry; this was alos well spiced and tasted great. We had a spinach side dish and a garlic naan. The spinach tasted wonderful and was the right dry consistency and my daughter enjoyed the garlic naan very much. The service was very attentive, and the surroundings were modern and tasteful. Full marks.

Both my Husband and I stumbled across the restaurant during a weekend visit to Chester. A gem of a find! We love Indian food and have been to India on our travels. Have to say this was authentic and a different menu to your run of the mill Indian restaurants which tailor their menus to suit us Brits. Really glad these guys have stuck to their roots and cook a variety of taste sensation dishes. A must visit when in Chester. Will will definitely return....

I've visited India several times, including Southern India so I'm familiar with authentic Indian food. We'd been here a few years ago and it was pretty good, but this visit was a complete let down. The rice pancake dosa itself was good but the potato masala filling was tasteless and completely lacking in the fragrant spices associated with a traditional potato masala. We ordered Erachi Curry and the waiter warned us it was very hot and spicy, we replied that was no problem as we're used to this type of food and he actually said he asked the chef to make it extra spicy. What turned up was awful, a bit like a thin lamb stew without any seasoning whatsoever, let alone any spices or chilli, really bad. The Cheera Kozhi Curry was equally bland and pretty tasteless, again little evidence of any spices. The coconut rice was OK but the Peshwari Naan was a little too sweet. If they served this food in Kochi they would soon be out of business.What a shame.

I visited the restaurant with my wife and friends the food was amazing and the service was second to none.

I must have tried over the last 15yrs making business trips to Chester all the curry houses in the centre. To my surprise never been here. No complaints very good food and great staff.

It’s our first time in Chester and after reading all the amazing reviews we thought we would give this restaurant a go. The staff were lovely and I can’t emphasise that enough however the food just wasn’t what I expected especially after reading all the reviews. Nothing like any Indian I’ve had before. My starter and mains didn’t taste anything like any of the other Indian dishes I’ve had elsewhere before, it wasn’t bad it just didn’t taste anything like what the dish should be.

Such a lovely change from bland balti restaurants. Authentic South Indian food. Enjoyed my dosa and other dishes. Recommended.

We dined at Kokonut Grove last night with family visiting from Australia. This is the third time we have eaten at this lovely restaurant and yet again everything was perfect. Not only was the food delicious all the staff were friendly and nothing was too much effort. I can not recommend this restaurant more highly and will definitely visit again in the near future.

My husband and I came here after being let down by another restaurant and we are so pleased we did. We were unsure what to order as this was no ordinary curry restaurant, but we needn’t have worried- it was all lovely. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, the food was amazing and great value for money. We are already planning our next visit. If you do go have the spicy mash- amazing.

This year, me & my brother decided to do something a bit different & went to Coconut Grove for our Christmas Day meal. A good decision as it turned out.

Went here after reading good reviews on trip, disappointed is an understatement food

Couldn’t get into the usual place we go so thought I would give this place a try. Very nicely presented, good decor and atmosphere all looked very promising. We were late going in and only just got a table before they closed, but were happy to serve us. Service was very fast and efficient but the food was very average. My food was nothing special and a bit bland not to the standard I’m normally accustomed to. Don’t get me wrong, there was nothing wrong with it just not particular tasty.

Our first (and not last) trip to Chester. We decided to try food from southern India. We were not disappointed.

Had the Sunday Buffet with a party of 14. Delicious food, excellent service, reasonably priced. What more can I say? We’ll definitely go back. Soon

I like Southern Indian food, as it is different to the food you get in standard Indian restaurants, providing varying flavours and dishes to try. However one of my colleagues was not overly impressed with the last South Indian restaurant we tried. Coconut Grove changed his mind about this cuisine and he will quite happily go again.

As you look through this restaurant's menu, there are a lot of dishes you might not recognise if you are just used to the 'regular' Indian food for a English people restaurants that populate our cities. This restaurant does not offer a Pakistan/Bangladesh based cuisine, but one from Kerala in South India. As such, yo7 will not find The 'pick a sauce, pick an ingredient' style of menu common to those restaurants buying in their sauces. Read 5e explanations carefully because you get delicately flavoured food as described.

8 of us dropped in on spec on a Wednesday evening, fairly late on, we were seated easily and were made to feel welcome.

Had a really nice meal here, 2 adults 2 kids, staff were all lovely, food top notch, will definitely visit again when in the area :)

There are lots of Indian restaurants in Chester and picked this one based on choice of food. Very friendly relaxed atmosphere and really nice food. It also had an IPA on draft which is a welcome bonus instead of the usual gassy lager. Only disappointment was the chutney tray that come with the popadoms....no lime pickle and trying to be too trendy with the rest of the items
