Fresh food, wonderfully friendly, polite, funny, kind, helpful, generous, laid-back, open-minded owners, large portions, an enormous menu and fast preparation. They have everything ranging from classic fish and chips to Asian takeout. Overall a lovely, personal experience making you feel right at home. Oh also great prices! We're on holiday here so we scratched together our last British pounds to get 5 huge meals for under 30 quid. It should be noted that they currently only take cash. PS: The portions may be a bit too large at times, but that's hardly an issue since you can just tell him when to stop :)

Food is made fresh to order. Always good portion sizes and the owner is really lovely! The service is always friendly and welcoming! Not had the Chinese food from there just chips etc but would definitely and go back

Best duck spring rolls hands down! They're always packed with everything you want in a duck spring roll! And just heavenly.. I used to get 2 portions almost every day.. and the staff are great

I'm in Love. Had large chips cheese and gravey. Chips cooked fresh while I waited standard. This I'd the best Chinese chippy in chester by far. Chips always stunning. I highly recommend the tray specials at just 5 pounds a meal. We'll cooked tasty value for money. Extremely nice couple who have ran here for the last 6 months. Look after local customers eat local support your local take away. Affordable scrumptious food 10/10 having lived in chester gof 25 plus years I havd tries all manner of takeaway here is by far the nicest. I'd suggest preordering by telephone to await any wait they always bust as popular with locals and newbies to chester. Located a stones throw from the heart of the city convenient if looking for a quick kebab closing time. Avoid taxi ques by enjoying a tasty bite.

Staff are friendly and nice enough but the food isn't great. I wouldn't recommend anything with meat in it as its the cheapest and awful quality meat. I'm not a fan of their special fried rice, it came with a sort of gravy/sauce, which is not what I expected from fried rice. The vegetable curry and curry sauce and egg fried rice are alright. Chips and pineapple/banana fritters are hit and miss. Its cash only. There's probably better Chinese/fish and chip shops around.

Meals are cooked when asked for making a long wait.previouse owner had food ready prepared and cooked IE.sausages.pies.fish.the usual fish and chip shop stuff.

Had fish & chips & chicken chow mein on lunch time special menu. Soggy fish & chips. Burnt (noodles) chow mein four very small pieces of pressed chicken and one piece of onion. I believe new owners. Not very good at their Job. Would have given no stars, but app doesn’t allow. Will not use again

Ordered batter sausage, chips n gravy a while back really good and payed 3.60. Went today for the same thing ended up being charged 4 pound for a half battered soggy sausage with a tiny bit of gravy on top. They change the price of things so just be mindful

New owners. Quality of food has dive-bombed. Everything tastes cheap and nasty.

BEST FISH AND CHIPS IN CHESTER!! After months of trying to find the perfect fish and chips we’ve finally found it. Proper chips and perfectly battered fish. And finally a place that knows how to make REAL curry sauce. If you want fish and chips don’t go anywhere else 10/10

Was the best takeaway in Chester, unfortunatly, not any more. I had been traveling 7 miles every week, for years, for the excellent food. Very disappointing now. The previous owners have moved to Chorley. Just a little too far to travel.

Been coming here for best part of 10 years. Was the best in town. It isn’t now. New owners, please wake up and take notice. Had some fish and chips a fortnight ago. Not good. Undercook chips, doughy fish batter and very wet peas. Gave them the benefit of the doubt as everyone has an off day. Had the same again tonight and sadly will be the last. I need to find another chippy. Sad day. Anyone any idea if the old owners have moved elsewhere in Chester?

Worst place never going there again 1st time and my last.

It was one of the best takeaways in Chester, not anymore chicken chow mien consisted of finely chopped noodles a few thin pieces of chicken no sauce nothing else. Bone dry won't be visiting again

Loved this place but new owners and not quite as good anymore but fairly decent value.

Apparently Hoole Fish Bar is under new ownership. Unfortunately, they have made some silly changes. The chips we were given are not 'chippy chips', instead we got anaemic looking fries that were greasy and cold. The prices have also been increased. So now you get bad food and pay more. I'll be walking into Hoole and going to the chippy there from now on, until these new owners learn how to do decent chips.

Could this be the best chip shop in the country? Not visited for a few years now, but was blown away by the fish supper we had the other night. I was poorly with a toothache, and didn't want to cook or chew anything too hard to eat! By the time I had partaken of chips and a wonderful piece of golden battered fish from this place, life looked a lot rosier! Peas were good also - didn't appear dyed, and not over-mushy or salted. Never change your formula, guys. You're getting it very right. 😋

Food is always excellent quality, the portions are very generous and the prices are very reasonable. The staff are always friendly and I've been going regularly for 15 years and they've never got an order wrong.

I've lived in Germany for the last 7 years and every time I visit my family, this chippy is the first place I go for food. Can't be beaten.

Ordered crispy chilli beef in Cantonese sauce it was ok and also ordered beef mushroom with boiled rice good size portion lots of meat but didn't have any flavourings at all worse beef mushroom I've ever tasted

So so disappointed ☹️ although the man running it is obviously a very nice man the food was horrible! I ordered Crispy beef it was soggy and tasted awful Actually could not eat it. Next time I’m passing I will be telling the nice man he needs a new chef because that was the worst beef ever

The Chinese food I have so far bought from here has all been incredibly delicious, and well-prepared. Excellent prices, for food that feels like it should be more expensive. Collection only take-out, but definitely worth the trip.

Well, had another visit today 16 01 20 and talk about consistency... another fantastic meal. I took a pic of meals and menu too. Thank you Hoole fish bar. We were all very impressed by the freshness, the crispy batter, sauces and delicious chips. Staff very friendly and quick as well..recommended 👍 zoom in to see my photy for lunchtime specials ...bargain.

Been here on many occasions and can say food is consistently good and staff are friendly.

He estado aquí alrededor de 3 veces para comer la primera vez en la calle, la comida era terrible, especialmente las papas fritas que básicamente fueron recalentadas (el chico calvo con gafas me sirvió), la segunda vez que las papas fueron perfectas (el chico asiático pequeño me sirvió), la tercera vez que comí un lote mixto de chips duros como rocas y chips blanqueados recalentados que no estaban completamente cocidos. Irónicamente, era el tipo calvo con gafas otra vez. Así que creo que a alguien se le debe mostrar cómo freír un chip, no es ciencia espacial. No volveré en el futuro

Visited this local takeaway on a Saturday night for fish and chips. Battered cod was a decent size, fresh and well cooked. Staff friendly. Recommend if you’re in the area.

Staff are so nice and friendly. We ordered our food which was cooked quick too and it was lovely too, the best Chinese food we have ever had definitely going back and probably would go anywhere else now.

A great chip shop within 6 minutes of Chester railway station just over hoole road bridge, fast friendly with generous portions at a reasonable price with the usual British menu as well as Chinese why pay station prices

Been and tryed there takeaway at long last. Would have loved to have given them a five star, but there egg fried rice tasted stale alot of the rice was hard like not cooked and bland. there chow mein and egg foo young were nice but while there alot of people were ordering there different battered fish with noodles will be hoping to try that soon.

Hot fresh quality food at brilliant prices. Fish and chips are lovely. Have never had a bad meal from there. Chips are yummy and cooked in clean fat unlike other local chippies. Lovely helpful staff also. Love this chippy! Best around hands down!!

...and the Chinese food is good too! In fact other local Chinese takeaways standards have dropped so HFB is a good choice now. The fish and chips is in another league though, consistently excellent over 12 years of coming here and really nice staff. 100% recommend.
