This village pub continues to impress with all the positive changes. Sue and Jim work as a great team, combining their innate hospitality and talent to provide a warm welcome to all who visit. They have prepared thoroughly for the post-lockdown re-opening and the pub feels very safe. The Sunday lunch is one of the best we have ever had when eating out and the bar menu includes simpler food, with a range of pizzas, veggie options, starters and desserts. There is even a Thai inspired vegan burger and Steve, the chef, ensures the food is piping hot when served. The view from the garden is the best for miles around and you can access one of the village footpaths from the far end of the garden. Tables are socially distanced and there is ample, safe car parking. A marquee has been erected outside so you can eat outdoors if you want to. We will definitely be returning.

Having ordered pizzas from here a few times before, pizzas from The Cock were my daughter's immediate choice for her 14th birthday party. I was grateful for the careful boxing up and labelling so I could hand them out without needing to open them up. Stone-baked with tasty toppings, all the girls were very appreciative and declared them the best they'd ever eaten! Quite a compliment from 8 highly experienced pizza eaters!

My friend and I went here for lunch. Safety is a priority, we had a choice of eating inside or outside. We chose indoors where tables are well spaced out and separated by large sheets of thick polythene. The menu was limited but I enjoyed a delicious vegetarian burger with excellent chips and my friend had a pizza. This with 2 soft drinks was less than £20. No cutlery and mains served in disposable boxes. Hand gel was available. There is good off road parking. Convenient after a walk at Harrold Country Park

Met some friends in the pub garden as wanted to support a village pub since reopening after lockdown. The garden lacks atmosphere because of the size and could do with some low playing music in the garden to avoid people talking in whispering tones. This is a shame as the garden has real potential but is mainly car park. The bottom of the garden has been tidied up and marked out from the car park which is really nice as it separates the two areas and has some with beautiful views, however this is what is also needed around the grass area where the tables are along with the tidying up and weeding of the borders to be able to separate the two. Friends had ordered food which arrived in plastic containers with no cutlery, no serviettes they looked less than impressed as other places are managing to serve with plates etc so it was disappointing to have to eat with fingers, especially as you have to bear in mind this is their main meal of the day. The front of the pub needs to be colourful and tidied up to get passing trade, as you cannot just rely on the local few. It looks a bit unloved at the moment. This has the real making of a great pub with a terrific garden in a great location but they seem to have forgotten about the village of late and it seems many of the villagers have gone to the other pubs nearby - Felmersham, Oakley and Odell which is a real shame. We wont be returning.

Excellent, picturesque country pub, excellent food & hospitality. Was here for a meeting of the Bedford Morris Men, traditional Cotswolds morris dance team. The pub is in a lovely little village just north of the town of Bedford; parking behind. Good real ale and a very creditable Guinness pour, impeccable Irish-style hospitality from the landlord. Highly recommended.

What a treat. We happened to be there on a Friday night which was fish and chip night. What a treat probably the best fish and chips we’ve had in a very long time. Cooked by John the landlord. This guy could give lessons in fish and chips his batter id to die for. A very friendly warm welcome to a very lively local pub. Welcomed by the staff and locals alike we will definitely be back probably on a Sunday because lunch apparently is a treat not to be missed. Many thanks from John and Sue.

As a couple from derby we stayed in the barn at the old George and Dragon - also amazing and would highly recommend. We came to this idyllic country pub and was welcomed by John and Linda with welcome arms, not to mention the locals who were extremely welcoming, friendly and made us feel right at home, it was a lovely weekend and the food cooked by John is just out of this world. Perfect idyllic country pub... most fatansic atmosphere, food, hosts... genuinely can not compliment this place enough and would highly recommend to anyone visiting Bedfordshire, we were lucky enough to stay in Alistairs - the old George and Dragon barn, however if unavailable it’s worth the visit from anywhere in Bedfordshire!! On walking in all the people at the bar greeted us like they knew us and made us feel very welcome, John the landlord was very friendly and very quick with a joke or two which made for a relaxed evening. They were not cooking food on the night we visited it we were offered some cold cuts of meat which we were not charged for. This is our local, and it has been coming on leaps and bounds since the current tenants took over. It is still a little shabby in places but I'd say that is more a question of the freeholder's disinterest rather than any fault of the tenants. Entrance door is full of cobweb and dirty, the toilets are very dirty, cobwebs, spiders, the bin is so dirty it needs to go in the bin, toilet inside needs a good clean, the thick dust and dirt is over the edges and ledges. Please clean the toilets, I would like gladly come back and recommend your pub. The only reason I would not come back to have a meal is the cleanliness. But great food.

I've been here a few times over the years, but the cooking seems to have stepped up recently. Roast beef is so often a dispiriting experience with overlooked thin slices of tasteless beef and bullet-hard roasties. Not here! I was initially alarmed by the pinkness of the beef. I usually like it rare, but this looked blue! However, the texture and taste were truly excellent. 28 day hung highland cattle of this quality can take such light cooking, and deserves it. Lots of vegetables on the plate and more in side dishes - 8 in all... Potatoes (very nicely done), parsnips, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, red cabbage, puréed swede, sprouts. All done well. Remarkable.

This is the first time we had been here for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed. 2 thick slices of roast beef cooked to perfection. Succulent, tender and tasty and still pink in the middle. This was accompanied by a large light and perfect Yorkshire pudding, fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside roast potatoes and beautifully cooked roast parsnip. There was also mashed swede on the plate which if I can be hyper critical about anything was a bit over salted. Next came a serving dish of carrots, red cabbage and broccoli and a big jug of very tasty gravy. We were very glad that we had not had a starter. This was an unpretentious good hearty Sunday lunch which was clearly all "home cooked". I would have been happy to produce it at home. As we all like Sunday lunch and rarely go out for this meal it was a pleasant surprise to find somewhere serving this sort of quality. My son and husband both have large appetites and I think you could say I have a "healthy appetite". Sadly we could not finish all of the vegetables which were superb and I struggled towards the end but It was so good I was determined to finish my excellent meal. We will definitely go again.

It is an unprepossing, down to earth, looking pub but everybody including chef, behind the bar and customers were very friendly. We settled for fish and chips and they were amazing. The freshest of Cornish (yes cornish) haddock in a crisp mouth watering beer batter with a home made chunky sauce tartar. The portions were huge and very satisfying. An added bonus was, after asking permission to leave our car in the car park, we were able to use a style in the car park which gave access to a beautiful walk along the John Bunyan Way through the Great Ouse water meadows. Stopped here for Sunday lunch and both ordered roast beef. Looked nice although the roast beef was a bit on the rare side and had a very thick layer of blubbery fat. Unfortunately the red cabbage was hideously sweet and tangy and overpowered everything else. The roast potatoes tasted deep fried as they were full oil and over crisp and the yorkies tasted old and were totally hollow like a crisp shell. Bit mean with the gravy too. Neither of us really enjoyed it. Probably wouldn't visit again. Cost just under £22 for two roast dinners which is a bit steep.
