We recently had our wedding at the Cock and we couldn’t rate it more highly. Nick (the landlord) was very easy to communicate with and they put on a fantastic spread for us. It really was the perfect venue for the perfect day. We had the best time

We wanted to head out for a good Sunday lunch. The place is better than the pictures, the food was great, and the service was super good. We were served by new trainees which did a great job. All the best in a great place to work, especially Francesca who helped us. The park in the back for the kids was awesome as well.

A really lovely pub, friendly staff and clean. It’s cosy inside, spacious outside. I would definitely recommend the outdoor seating, it’s in a gorgeous garden. They also have a massive tent canopy outside, which I think is for party hire. There was a car park too, but me and my friends had used it because we were on a hike, and made a nice little stop. They also have WiFi.

The chunky chips and whitebait are excellent. Fantastic service from staff, and prompt to bring food. Pub welcomes dogs outside and in bar area. The pub also has toilets (in desperate need of TLC) & traditional fires. There is a large tipi in the garden offering shade in the summer and shelter in winter. Lots of lovely walks locally.

Friendly pub, good service and fantastic Sunday roast. Very generous portion with a good gravy, proper cauliflower cheese and herby potatoes. The beef a little too well done for me but moist and my companion enjoyed their lamb! Delicious crumble, again a very good portion side with hot homemade custard. Really happy with the roast and possibly the best I’ve had in the area in 3 years! Lovely atmosphere in a historic pub, quiet countryside location for really peaceful walks. Friendly clientele and staff. Only downside I will say is that their toilet smells quite potently of countryside so that’s pretty authentic!

Visited on Boxing Day lunchtime, so some elements may not be entirely indicative of their normal service levels. That caveat aside: Pros: -Excellent and friendly service, really top class. -Excellent range of drink and interesting menu choices. -Sweets are ESPECIALLY good and worth making room for at the end. -Lovely environment, atmosphere and a comfortable if unhurried dining experience. -Freshly cooked, well-seasoned, flavoursome, attractive to the eye and utterly delicious food. There is considerable attention to detail in the serving. >On the bubble -Booking was perhaps a little haphazard. We’d been told one time on the phone, then another later one on arrival but was more or less sorted after a brief discussion with the house team. >Cons -Vegetarian menu options are quite limited in scope and scale. For example, my main (the curry) came in a portion size smaller than most people’s starters – exceptionally meagre I am afraid. Meat eaters seem to do better here. However, what did arrive WAS tasty…I would have just liked an adult portion size! -Prices are typical for a more London centric venue (moderate high), albeit at a level which caused my Midlands eyebrows shot up a little. -There was a moderate delay between ordering and each course arriving – possibly an artefact of the day we were here, and due to everything being freshly cooked! So be prepared to relax and be here a while.

We visited last night for a firework display, 6 paying adults 1x6 year old and 1x 4 year old. We all purchased food and drinks, including chips for the children, however we were later approached by the owner who told us we were not allowed to bring our own food, when we explained we had small snacks for the kids (a pasta pot, a yogurt and a couple of biscuits) he told me 'ill turn a blind eye on this occassion but i have a business to run and we do not allow people to just come in buy half a pint and eat their own food' we were not pleased with this response and made it clear we were paying customers who had purchased food and drinks for all, spending easily in excess of £100 in the short space of time we were there. The owner completely disregarded this and asked us to leave, i asked for my ticket to be refunded, which wad denied. Both children were made to feel unwelcome and asked to leave after this incident. A family member then went and spoke to the owner again, expressing how his actions were unacceptable and was told 'we will agree to disagree, i have a business to run'.tables next to us had tupplewares with hot food for adults and were not approached like we were. Its a shame the owner felt the need to treat his customers this way

This pub is beautiful! I was really looking forward to eating here. I thought the roast dinner was very pricey at £19.95, so I hoped it would be delicious. The lamb was very fatty and chewy, the roast potatoes tasted frozen and some of the veg was still hard. The gravy and Yorkshire pudding were both very nice. Hubby and son had burgers, which we had to pay £1.50 for a slice of rubber burger cheese!! The chicken burger was dry. After a disappointing main meal, I was looking forward to dessert. I ordered the sticky toffee pudding and I asked for custard. The lovely waitress told me they don't do custard!??!?!?!? So I had nothing. All in all, a very beautiful pub to have a drink by the open fire, but I won't be returning for food anytime soon .

Really, really peed off this evening. We had a delivery as usual (which we pay extra for as we are in Chipperfield) and received poppadoms that were really past their best (not crispy at all) and we were missing the peshwari naan which pretty much ruined the meal. The other dishes were good/very good, but to be missing a naan was very annoying. We rang about it and were told it would be taken off the next order… however, I’m not inspired to make a return visit - especially since I would always have leftovers the following day - but, again, there will be no naan with it….
