Lovely pub and staff. Would have been 4 or 5 stars but for the following; Disappointed to find so many items on the menu were unavailable, no burgers, no steak & kidney suet pudding and down to the last 5 sausages! No decaf tea or coffee available. We had fish & chips, fish was good with nice flakes of haddock but chips were average but all served on cold plates which wasn't good. Perhaps we were just unlucky but we won't be returning.

We booked a table for dinner for when we had finished a cycle ride. We chose our food from a menu received from Nick & Michelle. Our tables were ready for us and the food was served promptly. The young lady serving did an excellent job and, because I had named the people having the food, she was able to ask for us by name instead of having to ask who was having what. The food was well presented, hot and delicious and very good value for money. Jo was serving in the bar (along with her colleagues whose names I apologise that I didn't get) - she did an excellent job too as we were all buying our own drinks. Thank you for looking after us everyone at The Cock Inn!

Quirky pub with a cellar bar, they had a car show on the day we visited with BBQ food and live music. They have a great menu if you visit on non event days with a good choice of food. They have a selection of beers and ciders with normally around three guest beers to try.

Great old country pub...known as the pub with no bar. Ale was great served straight from the barrel in the cellar, very reasonably priced unlike some country pubs, eclectic rooms & seating, outside courtyard with large umbrellas, function room , large car park & an overnight camping field...food looked & smelt great...very welcoming...Am sure I will give 5* when I try the food

It's always a great idea to stop by this almost magical old place for a drink or two whenever we are passing through the village! I love the relaxed atmosphere and friendly people, besides the fact that this is such a cool pub with it's very old rooms, each one with their own character and older than old charm from a bygone era! Decent priced drinks, can't say anything about the food because we haven't eaten there yet, but we will be trying it next time! Go get yourself to cold drink and enjoy your time either inside in one of the small unusual beautifully decorated with old chairs and other furniture, or go outside where it is possible to be around other people equally enjoying themselves on a sunday afternoon, with enough room and sitting chairs/ tables so everyone is comfortable! You will love it, I am sure!

Traditional English pub in the country. Freehouse with a superb range of beers, lagers, wines, spirits.Great to see local brewers and even the Mighty Oak brewery from Maldon,Essex.Their Gorgeous George beer was coming on next, hope they get in Captain Bob and Maldon Gold. Both great beers. We picked three different dishes for lunch. They were all excellent and good sized portions at a reasonable price. I look forward to staying overnight on a future occasion and sampling the fair and beers again. Staff were all very friendly , well done everybody.

Gets better every time I visit! Excellent beer, good and reasonably priced homemade food and lovely staff. The pub itself is a quirky old building with bags of character, and it has a fair bit of outdoor space, too. Edit: I have revisited several times since my initial review and sadly this place is not as good as before. Service is incredibly hit and miss with long queues for a drink and food not always being available. The food is of variable quality also, with my last meal being really bad. Having said all that, it's still a pretty pub, in a great location and the beers are generally in excellent condition.

Beautiful historic pubs, lots of small rooms and famously ‘no bar’. Had a beautiful pint of Tring Brock Bitter, a lot of friendly locals when we went. All first name terms with the staff it seems who were also nice. The ploughman’s we had was okay, a lot of pickled bits and pieces in it. I think next time a more substantial meal as the couple next to us had a meal to make us jealous!

8 of us popped in here on the off-chance for lunch after visiting the nearby Shuttleworth Collection at Old warden. What a find! Although the pub was very busy the landlady, found us somewhere to sit and got us all a beer and menu to peruse while we waited. She informed us that it would be about 40 minutes for the food as they were so busy but that was no problem. When the food came it was plentiful and piping hot and overall great quality home cooked "pub grub" (with proper vegetables which to me is always a sign that a place cares about food). Interestingly there looms to be no bar as such, the beer being drawn from kegs in the adjacent cellar. I can't praise the landlady and staff highly enough - friendly, informative and efficient. Friendly locals as well. This place defines for me what a good pub should be. I would give it six stars if I could!

Great venue for a meeting or conference as there's a golf club on site! Meals are good quality and prepared on site, and there is also a licensed bar. Everything together on one site, we use it for our group meetings and lunches every month. There's been a slight price rise recently (Mar '23), but it is still good value. Jul 2024 update: Still just as good, prices have risen somewhat but still fair value. We visit regularly.
