Really disappointed Booked a table for 2pm for 2 people. Arrived at 2pm to have no record of our booking. Got told we could sit anywhere we wanted, but got told to move as we sat on a big table ( the rest of the tables were reserved and that was the only free one in that room so we moved into the dining room. horrible start to the visit! On the phone when making the booking i got told there was a selection of vegetarian options, and the male who took my booking said he made note that we required one vegetarian meal, I booked here because of the selection of vegetarian meals. When ordering I asked for the vegetarian options and the only option was a meat roast without the meat. When asked about the other options i simply got told ‘no’. After driving an hour to visit this place, we felt we had to get food here. food came within 5 minutes of ordering (very very fast, too fast to be fresh that’s for sure!) we recieved one small pot of gravy, a small bowl of leak, turnip and cauliflower for 2 people! We got told the veg was for the bangers and mash and the extra gravy was for my meal. A VEGetian meals WITHOUT VEG?!? the veggie sunday lunch consisted of 2 small roasties, a small bit of lumpy, dry mash and 2 yorkshire puddings! for £13! the large bangers and mash consisted of 2 sausages and a small bit of mash absolutely soaked in gravy. we originally thought the waitress was getting more food from the kitchen, so waited & them realised that was it. after trying to get the attention of the waitress and failing, and her somewhat hiding in the kitchen and serving tables far away from us, we gave up. when clearing out plates, we got asked was everything okay? we answered it was alright but.. but the waitress was quick to inturpt asking if we wanted anything else. we honestly just gave up. there was no customer service displayed, and one disappoint after the next. £40 for 2 drinks and 2 bland meals, and we ending up feeling we were the burdens. i would recommend giving this place a miss. never been more disappointed and defeated about a place. customer service is very much lacking and the food isn’t worth the money.

We tried this pub for a meal because of the reviews were good. It’s a lovely place to sit outside in the sun. My husband ordered some drinks at the bar and our food. No sooner had he sat down the food appeared. My husband had been told there may be a wait as a party of 12 had just ordered, and we were more than happy with that as we wanted to enjoy our drinks, I must admit we were both a bit shocked and my husband commented on this. I ordered fish and my husband ordered pie. Doubting the food could be cooked properly in that amount of time, I put a knife into the fish and it came out stone cold. When I had a good look the fish was raw!! I returned the food immediately. My husbands pie was just luke warm. Although the waitress apologised and sent the food back, we were both quite shocked. The veg was obviously left over from Sunday dinners at lunchtime and had no taste. I found this place very expensive for what you got. I appreciate this may have been a one off with the fish, however there is no excuse! It could have made me or someone else extremely poorly. Fresh food does not take 5mins to cook. We would not return and unfortunately this spoilt our first night of our holidays. I have given 3 stars instead of 1, due to the way the waitress dealt with the situation, she was very good and apologetic.

Friendly staff served a good pint and a lovely ‘small’ scampi lunch (which was huge). So far so good. However I’ve given one star less because of their reaction (or lack of) when I gave feedback/complained about the coffee. I had a cafetière of decaf and it was horrible; it tasted like very old oxidised ground coffee. I drank one cup, using loads of milk to make it palatable. When I went to pay the bill I complimented them on the food and beer, but told them about the coffee - one of them just grinned and the other just told me the total to pay. I didn’t expect it to be taken off the bill (though many places would) but did expect an apology or indication they they’d check the coffee for future customers.

While visiting this lovely area this week, we asked locals for their personal choices for a great place to eat as we were celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary. The Coach House Inn was top of their list, so we booked a table and looked forward to a lovely meal. We were not disappointed at all. We were very happy with the quality of the food from a varied and interesting menu. The staff were friendly and efficient, waiting times were short and everything was fresh, hot tasty and well presented. Thank you for a really good meal out - we will be recommending you ourselves and will return next time we are in the area.

Ate here on Friday evening, the pub wasn’t mega busy so we were served quickly by a really pleasant waitress. Between us we had the steak pie (this was FIT), cheeseburger - nice, lasagne also nice and three kids fishfingers all with chips the chips were proper chips - not oven ones but old fashioned chips - the kids said they were the best chips they ever ate so that is a a massive compliment! The gravy that came with the pies also amazing. Would definitely recommend and they also allow dogs in the pub. Prices are reasonable too. Thank you!

Eaten here twice recently.. Was impressed the 1st time, and have just come back from having Sunday lunch. Portion sizes are really hearty, half of us had Sunday dinner, all thoroughly enjoyed it. A few of us ordered off the menu, again, all well presented and very very nice. I've eaten the large fish and chips, and would also recommend the steak pie, but most of the meals I saw, looked very good. Anyone finding fault with this place, and leaving dodgy reviews, should go and have a word with themselves.

We went to the Coach House Inn for dinner a couple of days before Christmas and the pub was buzzing, the restaurant not busy at all. Beers and wine were good and not expensive, and the food was good too, especially the steak pie. Service faltered at the dessert stage and after the long delay we had apologies and no charge for that item. Very good overall.

I went to visit my brother over the Xmas holidays. He lives in Scarborough and we drove here down the country lanes. Beautiful. In the dining room there is a small pool table at the other end. Set in a beautiful village in the middle of nowhere. Large car park too. We sat by the window in the dining room and had two large meat pies with the sister in law having a burger. With the meat pies came a large bowl of mixed veg and there was aa large bowl of fries too. All set in a beautiful village. Beautiful meal and would visit again in a heartbeat. One of the best places to eat in the area and would recommend to anyone

We had a meal in the pub and also few nights had drinks in the bar as we staying across the road on a campsite. The food was excellent and even had reasonable gluten free options as I am coeliac. There was a gluten free dessert that wasn’t the usual ice cream or chocolate brownie. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. It a shame to have the negative reviews recently but I feel this doesn’t reflect the usual excellent standards but I understand they have had some staffing problems recently in last few days.I know the pub up the road only opened a few days ago because of having no staff. The choice of real ales is excellent as is the choice of ciders as I can no longer drink bitter. On balance I would disregard the couple of poor recent reviews and give the pub a go YOU won’t be disappointed

We were very much looking forward to this family meal on the last night of our holiday. We booked a table for 10 (7 adults and 3 children) well in advance and had a really good experience over the phone when booking. Sadly when we got there, we were shown to 3 separate tables, my brother in law had to sit on his own with his 2 year old, far from the rest of his family, whilst a closer table was reserved for another family - it was really odd. We were not told when booking we would all be separated. We asked if the tables could be put together and we were told ‘we have to think about the staff’ with no context at all. It couldn’t have been anything Covid related as there was no hand gel or masks in sight. It seemed we were being totally unreasonable for asking to be sat together as we had originally booked. Ordering was a challenge - no Fanta, no Pepsi Max, with no alternatives volunteered. They weren’t sure if we could have a takeaway box even though it clearly said takeaway on the menu. We had to dish out our own drinks from a tray on one of the tables and one of the waitresses used her hands to check my niece’s burger. Not sure that’s allowed even when there’s not a pandemic! The food was actually quite nice but unfortunately the customer service was extremely poor. A welcoming smile goes a long way but we felt like an inconvenience. Suffice it say, we did not stick around for pudding.

We’ve been to the Coach House a couple of times. First time service was amazing and the food was great. Second time the food was still ace but some of the bar staff were genuinely dreadful. Rude and unwelcoming, orders were taken with a shake of the head and a huff, shared looks and a sense of us generally being a problem. We were polite and friendly and, to be fair, the gent behind the bar was very friendly too, but the two ladies working the bar spoiled a lovely meal. Suggest the management read the mixed reviews on here and take some action to ensure return visits

Arrived with family to have a couple of drinks. To be fair we had not booked. The place was 20% full if that, with plenty of empty tables. Very frosty reception from the staff, no friendly greeting, we explained we just wanted a couple of drinks. The unsmiling staff told us they were fully booked. At this point the whole family looked around at the plethora of empty tables. We offered to take a table until it was booked but there was no offer of a table for an hour or even half an hour. It seemed as though the staff couldn’t be bothered or may be we caught them on a bad day.

We have been many times before Covid and During, we went at the weekend just for a drink outside, we looked on the website to see if we needed to book a table and it clearly stated outside they weren't taking booking and it was first serve only.We turn up and asked if we could have a table only to be shouted at asking if we had booked, we sat down and there were 2 other tables outside occupied and we had to wait over 20 minutes to be served and we had to ask twice if they could serve us.When we eventually got served we were greeted with "Hurry up where busy what do you want" no apology for keeping us waiting i was shocked how rude the member of staff was, i explained we had waited over 20 minutes and then he asked why we weren't served? because no one served us, even though we asked twice!! and they were not busy inside as i would have understood.then he shouted at a member of staff. it was unacceptable, we may not be locals however we would have spent a lot of money in there but the rudeness of the staff was unacceptable it was as if they didn't want any customers, and didn't care because they thought we wouldn't return we are just holiday makers. I understand its hard for pubs but surely they should make all customers welcome. It was embarrassing as we bought are friends there as we told them it was a great pub. very disappointing and not one member of staff mentioned track and trace to us.

The choice was that good, it was hard to choose what to pick from the menu. In the end I chose what I would like and by goodness, when each arrived at the table, I wasn't disappointed at all and so impressed. The food was wholesome, nutritious, and so very tasty. You could capture every flavour and certainly had your taste buds working overtime. The food was served hot and on warm plates (nothing worse than hot food on cold plates). The waitresses were so warm, friendly, and so very welcoming. The prices were fantastic too and certainly won't make a dint in your wallet at all and worth every penny. Called here today for a quick lunch while out, the staff were courteous and the food was lovely. The Inn was sadly let down by its locals and dog owners. While we were eating we saw 2 parties, independently allow their dogs to lick their plates clean and they then put the plates back on to the tables. Disgusting behaviour and definitely not conducive to the current COVID hygiene regulations. After we left we decided to report this to the manager, to be fair the manager was devastated and said that he would be talking to the parties, as there were still in the pub, and make it clear that that behaviour is not acceptable.Worryingly for us it demonstrated a disgusting local behaviour to us and we will not be returning to that pub.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch with very friendly and charming staff. My braised beef was everything I could have expected. There was a good selection of real ales and I'd have to say it was an excellent overall experience. Well worth a visit.

Visited one evening with friends, sat and ate outside in glorious sunshine. Everything super clean and best practice was followed with regard to covid prevention. Masks worn inside and out which makes perfect sense as staff were working inside and outside continuously. Plenty hand sanitiser available to ensure your hands were clean prior to eating which should always be the case unless you’re some sort of vagrant or animal! Food lovely as always and the atmosphere felt relaxed despite the precautions.

Called in for lunch as we were in the area on business. Had to use sanitizer to poison our good bacteria with toxic chemicals before sitting down outside.Staff all masked up even outside. One girl running around spraying seats and tables as soon as people stood up. Very over the top when you have more chance of being killed by lightening than dying from this seasonal flu strain which no longer exists.Decent pint of cask ale. Homemade chips are pretty tasty but despite asking two members of staff if the burgers are homemade and being told they are. They aren't. You should have a word with the chef who is telling porky pies....! Tasted like a Big Al's 6oz burger. I had the plain burger which would be better with a slice of tomato and the bun lightly toasted.Still a pretty pleasant meal even if the fear factor was over the top.

Excellent food. During our stay in the nearby campsite our family of 5 had two meals here. Between us we can recommend the Steak Pie (10/10). Lasagna (huge portions) chicken and bacon in mushroom and garlic sauce (my daughter loved this) and Jalfrezi curry was lovely too. The chips are home made and amazing and drinks are all served quick and fresh. Would highly recommend. I don’t have any pictures as we all just tucked in it was soooo good. You should book your table to avoid disappointment.

We visited the Coach House four times during our stay nearby, and every time the food and service was excellent. Laura (I think that's her name) was so cheerful and made us feel totally at ease. The staff, especially the waitress, who served us each time in the garden, worked tirelessly, all wearing masks. The food was all very tasty, good portions and very reasonably priced. On one night, as it was raining, and we prefer to eat outside at the moment, we ordered a takeaway, which was just as good and only waited a few minutes. Well done to all, wish we lived closer!

I recommend the steak pie to a friend as it was excellent last year but it was very dry and the pastry was rock hard. They served a better pie at The White Horse which is saying something as the food there is usually dire.

Planned a short camping break so wanted to eat locally, have visited previously but only for drinks. Booked via email for 7 30pm but arrived earlier for outdoor drinks. Considering the pressure, the staff do a remarkable job. On arrival covid tracking was requested, all staff wearing face coverings. Reassuring for those people in a higher risk category. Shown to our table at 7 30 prompt, enjoyed a glass of wine and ordered food which came within 15 minutes. Piping hot, tasty and hit the spot. The place is spotlessly clean, bar, rest rooms, everywhere and the staff fast to sanitise the tables upon diners leaving. Bravo. A most enjoyable couple of hours mid week. And the final surprise when asking for the bill, they've kept their net prices on hold so with 5% vat gave a substantial discount from the price on the menu - more than can be said for the campsite opposite who have increased net prices after the vat rate drop. We will return.

Called in Monday lunch the service from start to finish was perfect we felt very welcome everything was explained as soon as we arrived, after we cleaned our hands we filled out our track and trace we were then shown to our seats, Although they were operating on a reduced menu we felt the choice of food was good, we both ordered the braised beef in red wine it came with mash and fresh veg it was one of the best meals iv had in bar for a very long time I highly recommend this place for food. The place was extremely clean and hygienic we felt very safe and very relaxedShould we visit this area again we will definitely visit again.

Out for a drive on New Year's Day when we came across this gem of a pub. We ordered a sandwich which came with salad and probably the most gorgeous 'proper' chips in Yorkshire. The sandwich had lots of filling and it was really good value. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant. We shall definitely call again the next time we are in the area.

Friends and I made a reservation at the Coach House for the Christmas Celebration Lunch. As a group of 6 we covered quite a few of the choices on the menu and all of us were highly delighted. I had the Salmon and Crayfish starter followed by the traditional Christmas Turkey and couldn't resist the Christmas pudding, all washed down with a well selected bottle of mellow Rioja. All served by the excellent and exceedingly pleasant staff - what a treat it was!! Serving three courses at this quality all for £22 - it truly is unbeatable.Added to that the bar and restaurant is obviously highly cherished being well decorated, warm, cosy and offering a great ambience.I'm not one for making an abundance of reviews but felt I had to on this one.

We stayed in our motorhome for the weekend In the site opposite this pub. The menu is fabulous , staff extremely politeful and pleasant. The landlord Dave very kindly opened for us early Saturday morning to watch the England v Austrailia rugby game and kindly provided tea . We enjoyed our first meal so much that we ate in here the following night too. Dogs are welcome in games room area. There is a huge outside seating area too. The Chef kindly altered one or two things for us. Varied menu and great selection of cask ales too. The entire pub was immaculately clean . Lovely new toilets. All in all a great pub, cosy and friendly. Highly recommended .

Dropped in for a meal tonight and the place was packed. Ordered a Caesar salad and a Steak Pie. While waiting for our meal we were told we could not play on the pool table in the bar area as people were eating. Caesar salad arrived, it was so basic: reformed supermarket chicken pieces (£1 a pack sort!) supermarket croutons, basic gem lettuce and absolutely no cooking skill or imagination. Nicest thing was the four small pieces of bacon that were on top. The Caesar Sauce, I imagine, was from supermarket and it could have done with a bit of shaved Parmesan to top it off. It’s so easy to chargrill a nice butterfly chicken breast and pan fry a few nice homemade croutons... it really does make all the difference. I’ve had some delicious Caesar salads in the past and this is up there with the worst I’ve ever had. So disappointing. I was hoping my partners steak pie would be better but he was not impressed at all even though it looked the part, and when I tried it , it was rock hard pastry with very chewy dry meat. Chips were nothing special. All in all, a real let down. I just cannot understand why it was so busy!! Ironically, no one asked if we’d enjoyed our meal...

If you are in North Yorkshire and near to Rosedale Abbey and looking for a meal then look no further than the Coach House Inn. My wife and I visited there on the August Bank Holiday monday evening having abandoned our plans to eat at the Station Tavern in Grosmont as the owner was so obnoxious to me. Very friendly staff all round and excellent food. Good sized portions and very well presented. Good value for money. Well worth the drive. Will certainly visit again. Nice pint of Black Sheep.

We visited the Coach Inn whilst staying at a local campsite. The food is amazing, some of the nicest 'pub' food we have ever had!. The waiting on staff were very friendly and efficient but we felt that there needed to be more staff. As the evening got busier we had to wait longer to be seen too, waiting almost twenty minutes to see a waitress to ask for the bill. Overall though, great pub, amazing food.

2 x Desperate Dan pies (I didn't eat both!!). Very busy Sunday evening as you might expect so sat outside which was not a problem. Very generous portions of pie, chips, gravy and vegetables, each brought in their own dishes. Efficient service given business of the place. Two pints for £7, very reasonable. Very varied menu.

We had a holiday cottage just outside of the village. On our arrival day we dropped in for a quick drink while we waited for the cottage change over time. The staff were very friendly and the beer was great. There were three sections to the Inn, a restaurant area, bar area and bar/games area plus lots of seating outside. The Inn was immaculate inside, including the toilets. We had an evening meal later in the week. We ordered 7 different dishes - they arrived together and all plates were cleared! The chips were particularly good. The staff were fantastic throughout. Be aware that some (most) mobile phone signals (including 4G) are weak or not available in Rosedale so it can be difficult to contact anyone once you in the area. Highly recommended.

We spent a week in Rosedale Abbey in the middle of the North York Moors National Park. Despite a little bit of rain and a few clouds we had a great time exploring the area and the coast. We found the Coach House Inn just across the road from the cottage we were staying in, and it seemed silly not to visit on the first night after a long drive from the south. We were not disappointed! The Inn is well laid out, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the locals (not all of whom were tourists!) were equally welcoming to us Southerners! A good selection of real beers, wine and cider (and lager for those who know no better) was on offer. The menu had lots of good choices but wasn't overly large, allowing the kitchen to concentrate on providing great, largely traditional, food. During our 7-night stay in Rosedale Abbey we had dinner at the Inn four times, each night having something different from the menu (I have to recommend the steak pie!).They're dog friendly as well, like so many of the pubs and eating places in the area. A great place to visit after a long day out!

Although this restaurant has a captive customer base with two caravan sites adjacent we were pleasantly surprised on the quality of the meal, good service and an affordable price. The interior has two restaurant areas , one specifically where customers may take their dogs with a middle bar area. Outside seating area for those pints on a hot summer day!

It would look like I’m beating a drum for this pub! But we keep going back because to be honest it is just such good value. Tried their two steaks for £20, choice of rump, sirloin or ribeye, we both went for sirloin, superb, cooked as we wanted, medium rare, salad, mushrooms, peas, onion rings, and a separate bowl of chips. You must try it! I also think you will find it harder to get a better pint of bitter, landlady told me lines are cleaned at the change of every barrel as well as normal cleaning.

"you enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" said the bar room sign which greeted this weary wanderer who'd taken a wrong turn. I ordered a pint and sure enough before it was pulled I was in conversation with a local man who thenintroduced me to the bar staff! The Sunday Roast was in full swing, the campers were in and out from the pub campsite and the occasional labrador was stealing hearts but nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff. This is a proper country pub, as warm and cosy as a storybook cottage and it's charm appeared to be working on a nearby American couple who's fantasies of an Olde English Country Pub had all just come true. I was on foot and was a few miles from the nearest town but lo and behold one of my new-found companions insisted on giving me a lift... As I exited the bar I glanced the "enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" sign again - this pub does what it says on the tin!

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.
