The woman threw my bank card onto the floor after shoving it hard and fast into the card swipe slot: her Phillipineo husband put far too much milk into my tea: considering that his indokneesion woman drinks nothing else, he should have known better. Disgracefuuly un-English heritage behaviour. Supply English Heritage - minded intelligent polite, non-violent Hod - fearing staff.

This cafe has been refurbished since English Heritage took over, and it's massively improved. I don't relate to the previous reviews at all. Lovely outside seating area, pleasant staff, tables always clean whenever I've been, which is frequently! Good coffee and pastries.

This used to be a lovely cafe run by a charming couple with a good and varied menu. Our first visit since it has been taken over by English Heritage. Decor may be appealing but extremely offhand and disinterested staff (with poor command of English). Weak coffee. Don’t take cash which alienates a good portion of society including the elderly. Clearly English Heritage are just out to make as much money as possible with little concern for social niceties.

This used to be charming but despite it’s lovely location has really gone down hill. Limited menu, indolent staff, uncleared up tables and it’s obvious the outside tables have not been properly wiped/cleaned for weeks. Such a shame

Come here for coffee and cake a lot while walking round Marble Hill Park/St Margarets riverside. Very friendly people with tables outside. Did good value soup, sandwiches, cakes etc for breakfast, lunches, teas. Very dog friendly.Today I was told it had closed down as English Heritage want to run it themselves after doing it up. The owner gave me a free coffee anyway as she was clearing the equipment and stock out. Such a shame as the tenants put their heart and soul into it - Eng Heritage do not run their sites well (except Stonehenge) and still have the Office of Works civil service attitude. Marble Hill House is rarely open, no events, they wanted at one point to get rid of the sports fields there...…I bet they will ban dogs and try to make it into a pricey poncey place that will deter the locals who use the park as an amenity. They should have done it up but kept the current tenants.

I took my mother and inlaws out for a walk through Marble Hill on sunday, a place I would frequent as a child as it was so beautiful and so well kept. Now it looks a mess. Marble Hill House is crying out for a lick of paint and there are no visitors as they are charing over £8 entrance fee. The bins around the park are chipped and old and there are areas of land which are overgrown and unattractive to the eye. The toilets in the stable areas are dirty, no toilet paper and a dribble of water from the tap. The cafe wow, what a gem of a place if someone really were to smarten it up. Instead it has tired 70s pictures on the wall, when there are numerous artists who would be happy to showcase their work. The tables were scruffy, the pathway covered in leaves, this is July! The staff were confused and chaotic. When I asked for a cream tea for my mother after waiting 5 minutes while other members of the staff chatted in the back, it was just shoved on the plate with a pot of jam and cream. I actually had to ask for the tea! The cakes on the counter were exposed to bacteria and not particularly imaginative. We ordered our food at 4.30pm and spent £16.00 on just a cream tea, coffee and a pot of tea and 2 slices of mediocre cake. By 4.45pm, the broom and cluttering started, we could barely hear ourselves. But was expected to endure this noise as the staff clearly wanted to go home despite the fact we were still eating. Not a place I would care to visit again. Walls, door frames, shutters, all dying for a link of paint. Really don't get what is happening with Marble Hill.

The food here is home-made and okay but everything is in disarray and chaotic. It is not particularly clean and is uncared for. The nearby toilets leave a lot to be desired

Food selection wasn't huge but it was ok and the cake was very good! However it's a pity the place looks so run down. It has definitely seen better days and the outside seating area which used to be really nice is neglected and the benches are rotting. Hopefully the proposed renovation of Marble Hill Park will restore it without spoiling the character

This is a great local cafe set in the middle of Marble Hill Park. It is in a rustic setting in the old Coach House serving delicious home cooking and great cakes. The team are great and hugely efficient. Eileen runs it and is great fun and is full of life, as is Fran who also serves a great coffee. Perfect for a stop when out walking along the Thames with lots of seating both inside and out. perfect for families with kids and dogs.

I understand in the UK, food such as ham and cheese fillers should not be handled with bear hands but with gloves onbefore serving to customers. Having looked into the window of Gales in Richmond 10 minutes ago I was sickened to see a member of staff with bear hands compacting what looked like cheese in her hands before stuffing it into a croissant, beside her were a tray others already made so I could only surmise that she had also used bear hands to do fill these too. Not hygienic at all, so not wishing to digest any germs spread by a lack of the simple hygiene rule, I decided to eat elsewhere, but would suggest this lady gets urgent hygiene training before handling any further foods. 16.05.25 - Today I was once again walking past the shop, once again viewed a lady this time making filled rolls, again no gloves from one roll to the next, using her hands, was this cross-contamination as well as unhygienic? I think I will carry on walking by.
