This place serves really good food and is definitely worth a visit. Ok so this place may not feel that welcoming when you step in but honestly the staff are very welcoming and the food is fantastic. Not expensive and also really good portion. We were greeted as soon as we went in by polite gent and sat us down. It did feel really quiet but when I saw a few other tables food, I knew we made the right choice. The fish and chips were huge and well cooked and the steak sandwich was fantastic. All well seasoned and well presented. Give this a chance and I promise you won’t regret it.

Terrible experience from start to end. Drinks were flat 2nd drinks flat. Service was pretty slack. We ordered 7 meals and only 1 was satisfying. My toddlers meal came 10 mins after other meals, chips were half cooked. My poor mum ordered roast dinner and only half of it arrived on her plate and she couldn't eat the meat cos it was so over cooked. 1 meal came out cold so asked if it could be reheated obviously 3 mins in microwave was sufficient service for the chef. Unsure why we paid for meals, respect I guess..... Wouldn't rate this place for service or food!!!

Came looking for dinner on a Tuesday night. Not a time to look for food in Carnloch, but the Coach House was open this night specifically for some kind of occasion. It was clear that this was not a usual opening time for them, as things seemed a little chaotic, but the staff were still lovely and very attentive and honest about the situation. My partner and her mother both had the vegetarion version of the mushroom tagliatellli and said it was great. I had the burger, which was also really good. Dessert was great too. The chocolate brownie was one of the best I've ever had. Highly recommend for a good meal if you're in the area. Wish I had gotten the names of the two young folks serving us while we were there because they both did a great job. Anyone working that well on an abnormal opening night deserves praise for sure.

Booked this for Sunday dinner on our way back from holiday. This has got to be the worst place I have ever eaten in. Tables were getting main meals brought to them before they had their starters . Then they brought wrong orders when I got mine it had being in and out of the kitchen quite a few times .Two of the people at our table didn’t get ordered meal. They came back to check on what the order was. Staff didn’t know what they were doing . They comes to ask if everything was fine I said mine was cold . She offered to heat it up but at this stage all I wanted was to get out as quickly as possible. The table that didn’t get starters never got them because they brought more mains meals to the table I think they give up and took them and asked that the starters be removed from the bill.My advice give this one a miss.

Given Covid and all that, I haven't been here since 2019 and what a changed place this is. Hitherto, I always gave the place excellent reviews but I cannot do that in conscience any longer. I called for a late lunch the other day to discover a very limited menu at seriously overcharged prices. Frankly, I shall not return. The accommodation also is seriously overcharged at £150 and upwards per night.

We stayed a Sunday night here and it was a lovely experience. We stayed in the ‘Coastal Room’ which was very well decorated with a bed with canopy( not quite a four poster. Everything was neat snd tidy. It’s not a modern hotel but very well kept and the staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. We really felt relaxed land secure as all staff wore masks when on the move. We had a lovely meal and an excellent quiet breakfast experience in the morning. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean and well supplied. We got a late check out just for the asking. This is an old building but well maintained so it may not appeal to everyone but the welcome you get you couldn’t beat. This was everything the 4 star down the coast wasn’t the night before and the best of our 3 hotel trip this week. On a down note we were recommended their chicken Maryland as were the couple next to us but it just wasn’t ion the menu that week- we will have to come back again then!

We came here for an evening meal and didn't really get a friendly welcome. In fact it was a bit dour. The waiter greeted us but the impression was that he would have preferred not to have been bothered. There was one other older female member of staff who also didn't look like she was very happy to be there. Some radio programme on quietly as the background music didn't help to lift what was an almost funeral like atmosphere. We ordered a bottle of wine which was simply plonked on the table with some glasses and we were obviously meant to pour our own. The food wasn't great either and I have never understood why places serve lasagne with chips and bread. Is there no imagination any more? The chips were raw. Whilst a lot of places now offer thrice cooked chips this place failed at cooking them once. Not a great experience but it probably doesn't deserve a poor so it just scrapes an average.

We had an evening meal while staying in the Londonderry Arms and were very impressed by the food on offer. While we were offered a choice of dining in the Frances Anne, we opted for the more relaxed and cosy Coach house on a very cold February evening.Service was informal and friendly, but the kitchen was very efficient with only a short wait for our meals to arrive. The chowder starter I selected was huge, delicious and could easily serve as a main course. Likewise, the steak main was excellently prepared and very tender. While not the cheapest meal we've eaten, the cost didn't break the bank and we both felt it represent good value.

There aren’t many places to eat dinner along this part of the coastal route, and we had travelled a few miles searching before we came across the Londonderry Arms with its Coach House Bistro. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was busy with a convivial atmosphere. We were welcomed by the friendly staff who apologised that there might be noise from the function room, but we were very quickly offered a quieter spot when another table became free. The menu was fairly typical for this area, with a reasonable selection of mainstay dishes, and the food was to a good standard. Overall, a welcome find.

We visited the coach house bistro this evening. We waited over 5 minutes to be seated despite there being 3 staff around about the bar who clearly saw us but ignored us. When a 4th member of staff arrived to seat us there was no apology or welcome which is not what one would expect. So much for Irish hospitality! I have been visiting this restaurant for 30 years and in that time it has declined from serving hearty and decent "pub grub" to insipid dinners. Mine managed to be both undercooked and overcooked at the same time - chicken goujons were overcooked and the chips were positively anaemic. The salad garnish consisted of half a cucumber slice and a sprig of lettuce. It is such a shame as this was and could be such a lovely place. The food is below average but what really sets it apart is its absolutely awful service.

I had to wait for over five minutes to be seated. Not a member of staff in sight. After the visible shock of being asked for a table for one, I was ushered to a table in a discreet corner. That was the last interaction I had with any staff member. I sat there for 20 minutes - no one asked to take a drink order or offered me a menu. The family seated opposite who came in after me had ordered in the time I sat there and the two members of staff were chatting with them. Possibly the worst service I have ever encountered. I wondered at one point if I was invisible!! Needless to say I left after 20 minutes and will not be returning.

Had a meal here recently. I very much enjoyed my meal but my husband was not so pleased. I accept it is a very old building with an interesting history and as such allowances have to be made for the decor. However i cant overlook the lack of cleanliness. Chairs, walls, radiators needed a good clean. Two seperate sets of glasses were dirty. My glass had lipstick still on it and the unused open fires had waste paper in them both. Service was friendly but really poor. A group of ladies waited over 10 mins to be served at the bar while we waited also....and it wasnt busy. Ive rated my review as very good based on the history of the building and because i enjoyed my meal... but the lack of service and hygiene would concern me.

Been a few times now and whilst the food is delicious, ordering it and getting it to your table can take some time, and this is exacerbated at busy times. I had the roast beef dinner and while there was plenty of beef and vegetables on my plate the beef was so overdone it fell apart and was very dry as a result. We ate dinner here for one night and were not that impressed. The restaurant and its menu looks like it could do with a refurbishment. Service was OK. I didn’t fancy any of the starters which seemed pretty basic and somewhat overpriced. My wife had a prawn cocktail which she said was ok. I had fish and chips for main and my wife had a steak - not that difficult you would think. My wife’s steak was slightly overcooked and looked a little smaller than the claimed 10oz to me. My fish and chips came with overcooked peas and I’d bet a week’s wages that they had been sitting in a pan of hot water all evening - they were as hard as bullets. I complained to both servers at the end of the meal but got little in the way of apology. £55 for the meal including a half bottle of wine and a Guinness was rather steep and next time we are in the area we will opt to eat in the next village down the coast or find a takeaway.

My 2nd choice was the Coach Hoyse at the Londonderry Arms. Some previous reviews made me feel a bit uneasy because of reported poor service. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed and given every attention without being overly pushy. The food was great and served hot. The portions were just right and very reasonably priced. We were shown to a table for two that was in an odd place, by an opening to another, unused function room. Other diners soon finished in a corner, and we asked to move to that table instead, and did. I like the wooden interior, and bits of stained glass here and there. It was Easter Monday, the place was quite busy. From the menu many tempting things were no longer available. No chowder, no mussels, no chicken supreme roast of the day. From what was left I chose the gammon. I liked it. I liked the peas, and their chips. Their pot of tea for one was very generous; I think I got three or four cups full from it. The gammon was £10.95, and the whole bill for two was £30.40. I have some nostalgia for this establishment and still view its crab cakes as the best that I have ever tasted. Unfortunately that was long age when the pride in local seasonal produce and honest decent food was the norm. The haddock and chips were ok for a nondescript chippy, certainly no better, despite being double the price. The chips in particular weren't bad for this time of year. However the open prawn salad was shameful. Chewy, tasteless nonsense that bore little relationship to the beautiful nephrops that are harvested off our shores. This dish was garnished with watercress that tasted stale and positively dangerous to consume. I wonder if it's better not to offer food than to offer food of this quality. Having said all of this, the staff were really nice.

If you like grey chicken fillets that are as tough as a shoe insole, deep fried in batter...with oil dripping off it, swimming on the plate, stale bun, half a lettuce leaf and some chips that taste of fish then this is the place for you. Myself and my partner called in the the Coach House Bistro on Monday 31 October at around 5.30 to have an early evening meal. Upon entering the place immediately came across as farm and friendly and we were expecting this atmosphere to be enhanced by a lovely meal. The menu was varied and had something for everyones taste albeit at the higher than normal hotel prices. We decided we didnt want to be adventurous on our first visit to the place so I choose the Battered Haddock and Chips and my partner choose the Lasagne as those two meals are generally hard to go wrong with.....or so we thought. The meals came out I would say being generous 5 minutes after ordering which always worries me and in this case it was justified. The haddock was a good size but was incredbly greasy it looked as though it had not been either cooked long enough or was cooked at the wrong temperature. The Haddock taste wise most go down as one of the worst tasting pieces of fish i have ever had the misfortune to eat. There was abolutely no taste of fish off it whatsoever and so most of it was left behing floating on its grease. The chips were not bad and at least seemed fresh. My partners lasagne was to say the least "small" it came with a side salad and two peices of garlic bread. The garlic bread was awful. It looked like they had buttered two pieces of crusty bread with warm garlic butter and couldnt be bothered to toast it. It was soggy and not at alll crispy. Likewaise the lasagne (or at least what you got of it) was bland and looked like it had been rapidly nuked in the microwave because although the meat itself was warm and the cheese was melted on top there was no signe whatsoever of crusting on the cheese to suggest ti had been in the oven. The cost of the meal (along with 2 soft drinks) was just over £29 and was definately not worth it.Perhaps we caught them on a bad night and perhaps there other meals are better but the quality on show this night would not encourage me to ry there again unless i was particularly desperate.

Driving once again up the Coast Road on a lovely October day and decided to try here for lunch - great idea! It is a lovely hotel and I ate in the Coach House Bistro. Very well appointed room and a lovely friendly and helpful girl behind the bar [25th Oct '16]. I was spoilt for choice with the food menu but opted for the prawn open and it was delicious. Lots of succulent prawns, leafy salad, potato salad, coleslaw and wheaten bread. I will stop there again when next having a day out in that direction and will work my way through the menu. The food was served very quickly by another friendly lady.

We went there for dinner with our two Kids. It looks very nice from the outside; the interior is old-fashioned, nur also nice and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We thought it was a bit peculiar to be seated in a waiting area to order our meals, but it somehow matched the ambience. The menu offeres a good selection of dishes incl. some kids menus to a reasonable price. So far I'd give 5 stars - but unfortunately the food didn't meet our expectations. The chicken was way to dry and the fish too squashy. Our younger son didn't like the chicken goujons either.

Whilst visiting family in Carrikcfergus we drove out along the beautiful coastal road to Carnlough and stopped here for lunch. The chowder was amazing and was the best I've ever eaten, served with a very tasty scone. The hotel was quite old fashioned but in a good traditional way. Would recommend the food here.

We had always liked this restaurant, but we hadn't been in Carnlough for a few years. Last Sunday we had a lovely drive along the beautiful Antrim coast road, and decided to have an evening meal in the Coach House. Our welcome was friendly, but we were 'pointed to' rather than 'shown to' our table near the bar.Menus together with a page of specials were given to us, and our drinks order taken. The soup starter was very tasty, with delicious wheaten bread. Our main courses of fresh mussels and fish were equally delicious - except for the chips in a mini bucket! We both prefer food on plates.Service was very good - albeit a bit random, as we had four different servers for drinks, starters, mains, dessert. Overall though, a really good meal. And we would certainly return.

Lovely looking restaurant from the outside and that is carried through as it is very nicely 'old-fashioned'. Staff very pleasant but 35 minute wait for our lunch and although beautifully presented it was a little bland. I had the cajun chicken with champ which were both nicely cooked but did lack flavour as did my partners chicken goujons. A great pity.

My 3 year old grandson's birthday lunch. Took him and my granddaughter out for lunch after a boat trip around the bay. Six of us in all and they had menu which contained something to suit all of us and we are all "picky eaters" Personally I had the fishcakes high was superb.Service was excellent and although the goos wasn't cheap it wasn't expensive

Decided it was time we gave the restaurant at the Londonderry Arms a try as we had been for a very long time. The hotel and restaurant have a pleasant ambiance, traditional rather than modern decor, it has a small car park opposite but there is plenty of street parking close by.We had booked for 7pm but waited until just before 8 before our meal was served, we couldn't say they were particularly busy either. Although we had a long wait I have to say staff were really attentive, friendly and helpful.Food is satisfactory rather than brilliant, particularly given the prices for main courses, sides are another 3.95 each. There's plenty on the plate but I suspect they use a low grade cooking oil which has a tendency to leave a greasy taste on the food. Ingredients too are more mid that top quality, nothing bad, just that we expected better. For example, we had a portion of mushrooms and they were even tainted with the taste of the oil which spoiled them - good restaurants shouldn't feel they have to cook everything in fat!We would return but this isn't one on our priority list, there are better around but unfortunately Carnlough isn't awash with eating establishments.

We were on the road up the coast and did not have a booking but called in and were greeted warmly, seated without hassle and had our food served very efficiently. Mussels, chicken fillet burger and vegetarian option - all were really tasty, and portion size was very good value. The place was busy but never made feel like we needed to move. Would visit again.

Expectations were high when I decided to visit the Londonderry Arms. It is tired and in great need of refurbishment. As it is the only hotel in this picturesque village, it has the potential to be something great. Food was even disappointing

The building is right there on the main street of Carnlough. Even though you step right onto the pavement, the place has some charm from the ivy cloaking one corner and the low balustrade and porch pillars. This was a Saturday in summer, so the front door to the restaurant was open and traffic noise was then coming from outside. It has a wooden pub-style interior, incorporating some stained glass panels. Great to see old wooden sash windows, ropes and all. Outer and inner front doors, wall lamps, a wonderfully curved old desk greets you with a selection of newspapers and magazines. I did have to wait a long time for my meal to come. The server taking our order forgot to take the menus away. Big menus, lots of choices, plus a page of the day’s specials. I was tempted by the seafood chowder starter, but went for the Crisp Confit of Duck Leg (gluten free) with Creamy Champ, Braised Red Cabbage and Homemade Tomato Chilli Jam. £9.95. I liked it a lot. Not a huge meal, mind you, most people might need to add a starter and / or a dessert. Top 5 out of 5 score-on-the-doors hygiene rating.

I brought a friend to the Londonderry Arms, which is on the main street in Carnlough. They have their own car park across the road. They had some newspapers and magazines for people to read. I chose the Coach House Fish & Chips, served with Peas and Tartare Sauce. It was good, but I do not like having my chips served in a tin bucket, you can't see the ones you want. With my meal I had a half pint of Carlsberg. Along with another main course the bill was £24.70. The meal took a little time to come, it was a Saturday afternoon festival day. Our servers were good.

Although quite close to where we live we had never used this restaurant before. Would have to say the service and food were very good. Probably the portion sizes would be our only problem but other than this everything else was fine. I would recommend this restaurant and will use again

We were staying overnight at the Londonderry Arms and as the Tapestry restaurant was not available we opted for the Coach House.and contrary to the spiteful reviews from Timeout176 ( who seemed to have a big chip on his/her shoulder and not one supplied from the kitchen) and also a few others and what has the sectarian hang up got to do with the restaurant?.My experience along with my wife was nothing but pleasure. The restaurant was packed but we managed to get a table for 2 and a little wait for the attention of service staff but a drink order and a little time to peruse the adequate menu. The staff were very busy but polite nicely turned out and took our order quite quickly and in reference to retro in the title it was for the Chicken Maryland on the menu which was a dish of choice in the 60's especially in Australia and which I have not seen on menu,s in England( it was delicious and a top choice apparently on the menu and my wife's roast was also as mine hot and very enjoyable.

I had the pleasure of eating in the Londonderry Arms Hotel during Eel-eat week. They had a fantastic starter of Smoked Lough Neagh Eel and Glenarm Smoked Salmon on homemade wheaten bread, with poached egg. The Steak for our main was perfectly cooked and the desserts were completely made by hand and delicious. The service was efficient and attentive and overall a great meal. Great to see local chefs use so much local produce!

The bistro was pretty busy (dinner time on a weekend evening) but we were seated very quickly. Our waitresses were nice but the food took a really long time to get served (noticed several times people who came in after us got their food before us - we did not order anything that should have taken long to cook) and it simply was not good. Very greasy (chicken fillets). However, the seafood chowder was good. Sometimes when service is excellent, it can make up for poor food but not in this case.

Sorry to say but the food was absolutely terrible. We ordered sausage and mash and Chicken Maryland thinking it would be fun indulgent pub food. The sausages were horrible, I actually went to a play afterwards and had to rush out to the loo half an hour in. The Chicken Maryland felt like bad over cooked food. The service was also really bad, friendly young teenage staff but so slow. We ordered a second drink and had to leave half as it arrived so late and we had to get to the play. I would recommend skipping here and getting fish and chips from the marina chippy down the road! Such a shame as it could be so nice with the setting on the coast and the old style outside. It's not cheap either, £13 for an awful Chicken Maryland! Sorry.

We stopped at the Londonderry Arms Coach House Bistro for lunch on our way up the Antrim coast. There were four of us. The Bistro had a traditional, cozy decor that was warm and welcoming. The owner stopped by to visit with us for a few minutes and told the story of when a U.S. Presidents entourage stayed there some years ago and sent a picture of the White House as a Thank you. The food was very good. I ordered the Glenarm raised Salmon which was fresh, cooked just right and tasted wonderful. It came with vegetables, and potatoes. A good hearty lunch to keep us going for the rest of the day. The service was pleasant and quick. I would definitly recommend the Londonderry Arms hotel and bistro to anyone making the trek up the Antrim coast.

This place is literally a gem. It has everything you would expect from an Irish restaurant/pub: Very nice beer, good service, quality food and a fireplace. The location is fantastic as it's 30 seconds away from the marina. The food is served in a decent timeframe and is really tasty. The price is average. In the area, is definitely the best place for eating out in my opinion

The restaurant was very busy when we arrived at 2.30 so we were told to take a seat in the bar where we bought a drink. After waiting 45 minutes with staff passing us which looked like lovely food my husband went to ask regarding a table as it seemed no one else was being ushered into the bar. Turned out everyone coming in after us were getting tables and we had been totally forgot about. When my husband asked a member of staff if a table was free they said if we go back into the bar to wait. My husband explained we had been waiting 45 minutes the lady looked shocked and said I will get you a table now. This table had already been allocated to someone who had just turned up. As there was no other tables we drank our drinks and left without even an apology from any member of staff. We walked down the street and into the Glen Cloy Inn where we got a table immediately, got served immediately, with the staff being more than helpful and the food was great.

This unsuspecting pub by the sea served lovely food and I'd certainly go again to try something else. I had fish of the day, hake fillet, and it was beautiful. The pub itself was nothing fancy, and I wasn't expecting much, but very glad I ate there.

We had hesitated over whether to go to the Tea Room for food after seeing negative reviews, but are so glad we went. Arrived at 12 noon at start of lunch menu. Family meal- 2 kids and 2 adults. Food was delicious, served really quickly and presented really well. Goujons were so fresh and the club sandwich was so tasty. We had a lovely meal, in beautiful surroundings, and were ready to enjoy the rest of our day. Will definitely be back!
