I was apprehensive having seen a few negative reviews but I have to say that this place has really upped its game or previous reviews have been unfair. The food was good. Very generous portions, tasty & presented well. The service was quick and with a smile. The staff were so helpful when we had a minor mishap at the table and nothing was too much trouble. The coffee was rich & strong and the lemon drizzle cake was like my 'grandma's'. So all in all it was a great experience ( may 2025).

Flavourless chips, mayo was sour. And pretty extortionate price for the poor quality of food. I'd avoid this joint.

This place is just beautiful, honestly I just love it. It starts on arrival with the quaint walk to the tearoom filled with the most amazing sounds and smells of nature, it is the perfect recipe to unwind and leave thoughts behind. When you enter the tearoom you are straight into the fun welcoming buzzing atmosphere of a coffee shop, the hum of chit chat from customers, the sound of the steam wand frothing up the coffees, the smell off food and coffee and the ding of service from the kitchen of bustling chefs all of which is on view for the customer to see and makes it very entertaining for the desired foodie. The food in here has been developed clearly by a Chef who cooks and plans with passion with everything taken into consideration from local suppliers, including the castles very own short horn beef and the ample selection of fresh seafood, along with crowd pleaser options of toasties, sandwiches and soups. It honestly ticks every box for the perfect go to wether it’s just for a coffee, a sandwich or a beautiful plate of seafood from the specials worthy of being on a menu of a top restaurant. My favourite dishes that I’ve had so far is The fish and chips - a classic yet done so well, beautifully cooked and expertly seasoned. The scampi - local Portavogie scampi, real good top quality and was cooked to perfection. Salt and pepper tiger prawns- A dish that showed off skill in the kitchen, flavours were exceptional. Salt and pepper squid- equally as good as the prawns and a great addition to the specials board Chowder- elegant, light and packed with fish, fragrantly flavoured, such a beautiful chowder in here. The shorthorn burger- just take a bite and the quality will speak for itself, one of the best burgers I believe you could try. The staff always have a friendly smile and ready to help and provide a very warm service. This is a beautiful small cafe producing skilful, fresh and exceptional food and service, I can’t wait for my next visit. P.s an ice cream from the Milk Parlour after is the perfect finish to a day of indulging and in some of the finest local produce and cookery this wee country has to offer

Nice friendly staff doing their best with food that has gone badly downhill. Their tray bakes and brownies are very poor now compared to what they used to have they have that soya low quality taste. What a pity used to be a lovely place for a lunch and treat. Hope it comes back to standard soon, if there's one thing people in co antrim know, it's quality scones and traybakes!

Ordered the special langoustine for £18. Even giving £4 for the salad and £4 for the chips how could you charge £8/£10 pounds for half batter scratching and the other half ( 6 pieces) of tiny broken piece of langoustine over cooked in large blob of batter. So disappointed. As a pensioner my money was hard earned and I hate the fact that someone thinks they can deliver such poor quality and charge excessively for it.

For years, this was one of our favourite places for lunch. There was a large display cabinet full of a wide selection of ciabattas, paninis, croque monsieur etc; also a menu of more substantial meals like burger and chips. An excellent choice, and everything nicely made. I often had their burger, the best in Co Antrim – actually tasting of beef, and with genuinely crispy bacon on top (every establishment describes its bacon as “crispy”, while in fact usually serving thin rubber). Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the caterers have been changed this year, and to say the new ones haven't got a clue is an understatement. On our first visit, I had my usual burger (described as before), but was saddened to notice that it was now a tasteless version (presumably cheaper) with no crispy bacon. If you want something of this quality, go to McDonald’s. The lovely display of paninis etc had gone, replaced by a few toastie options on the back of the menu. My companion had one, which was epically awful. Two slices of cheap pan loaf (rather than ciabatta etc), with no filling AT ALL except a spoonful right in the middle. Presumably this was done to enable the illusion of it being “stuffed” when cut in half. Shameful, not fit to serve to anybody. Sometimes it’s hard to accept the death of something loved – so, against our better judgment, we visited again after a few weeks, in the hope that lessons would have been learnt. Sadly no. I had their “langoustine scampi”, which turned out to consist of chunks of oil-sodden batter, with almost no discernible langoustine inside (photo below). Their “salt and chilli chicken” was as bad – thin strips of some kind of deep-fried mixture of batter and breadcrumbs, I think, with the mere trace of chicken internally. To serve this kind of garbage – for £18 in the case of the “scampi” – is insulting. It seems likely that by doing so, the café hopes to generate high profits – at your expense. Don’t go.

We hadn't planned to visit the Glenarm Tea Room but unfortunately the Pizza Pavilion was closed. However our disappointment didn't last long. Whilst on the pricey side for lunch, the quality was excellent. A little gem of a café with well-trained and friendly members of staff.

On arrival my husband nearly lost a front wheel as the pot holes were massive, as we have been to the tearooms several times before we were expecting great food instead it was over priced and underwhelming, smallest scones in all of co. Antrim priced at £3.50 , my husband and daughter both ordered the same toastie ,one from the adult menu and one from kids , adults priced £12.50 kids £6.50 only difference was adults came with a bit of lettuce on the plate, bog standard kingsmill bread, a small pot of maybe 10 chips cost £3.50. The oat flat white was basically an americano and undrinkable, £40 for 1 scone, croissant, 2 toasties, 2 coffees, 1 tea and pot chips , total rip off , will definitely not be returning

Haven’t been since September and was excited to see what’s changed and was looking forward to the food. Unfortunately I was let down. Had the chicken strips and you could clearly tell it wasn’t home made. Always amazes me how these “chefs” get a job. Plenty of home cooks could do better. The service wasnt any better. The Canadian/American woman was going around the tables almost begging for compliments instead of people’s real verdict. She made me feel very uncomfortable and I’m sure the other customers aswell. Such as shame because it used to be such a nice wee place for food. Change the chef for a start. Someone who wants to cook. Not heat things up.

My first review!! And have to say – are u joking?? Worst food EVER, can’t believe it. I had salt’n’chilli chicken, my favourite, eat it everywhere. But this was something else! IE not chicken!! Instead of what I was expecting, I got lots of things that looked and felt like Twiglets, if you remember them. dead thin, sort of hard and crispy, crunchy, knobbly on the outside. And this is the important bit! Nothing inside!! I've taken a phot, don’t know if u can see, but there is literally NOTHING inside the crunchy breadcrumb stuff. Can’t remember what it cost but not cheap. Terrible, don’t know what they thinking. Never again.

We were regular visitors in the past and always liked forward to the consistently delicious food . We visited today for the first time since the new proprietors have taken over. Extremely disappointing. I had an open sandwich which I can only describe as a mess. The previous high quality food is no longer on offer. There used to be a wide variety of high quality pastries. What is on offer now is pathetic in comparison. Whoever is in charge needs to sort this out urgently.

Sadly, something has changed. No longer any branding from Ground so I presume operation has been taken in house by the estate. Food quality noticeable poorer vs previous visits. £12 castle breakfast is extraordinarily poor value with just one sausage, bacon, egg, black pudding, beans and soda. No potato bread or toast, no included coffee etc. Tray bakes and cakes no longer look as good as they used to be either. Perhaps the place is still getting adjusted to a new regime but this just isn’t what it used to be sadly.

Knew as soon as i walked in here that the night before was not going to be resolved with the fry i was going to order. Not sure how places like this think they can charge extra for a fry than a greasey spoon as even though their pork comes from a pig fed on fairy dust and champange while having a thai massage it does not improve the overall taste of that fry. Fry arrived and they did that poncey thing of serving the beans in a seperate dish on the same plate which added to my negativity. Overall the fry was ok but not worth that they charged, no toast included and tea was an additional charge, i dont recall ever paying so much for a morning meal.

Well, what a disappointment! A lot of people have enjoyed going to this little café for years, including the four of us; the food has always been good. Following the dismissal of “Ground”, the previous caterers, sadly it is not good now. I’ll let the others speak for themselves, should they wish to – here is my experience. Where Ground had a display cabinet packed with appetising ciabattas and paninis, with a variety of tasty fillings, there was a fairly sparse selection of sweeties – tray bakes and the like. The main menu on the wall wasn’t very different from the old one, but what a difference in the quality of the ingredients! Keith Floyd once said something about when the accountants take over from the chefs, it’s time to move on – and that looks like what has happened here. One of the things I personally liked about the old place was their burger. It was made from decent beef, and tasted of it. And you know how, wherever you go, bacon is invariably described as “crispy”, but equally consistently has the texture and flavour of cling film? Not so in the old days of Ground – I could have cried with joy the first time I felt it crunch as I chewed my burger. Sadly, the tasty burger has been replaced by a tasteless glob – do I detect the cold, dead hand of Lynas at work? And the bacon, almost absent, was the soggy kind. So, very poor quality and range of food now, but doubtless profits have increased, so that’s OK then, isn't it? It’s so sad to see a nice place like this go so completely to the dogs. We won’t be back.

We are long term visitors to the cafe at Glenarm Castle. We have always liked the food and surroundings. So we worried at what might happened when we discovered it had closed, and would be taken over. But we still looked forward to visiting again, which we did on Sunday. It was very disappointing. We always liked the ciabattas and toasties, of which there was always a big selection. So you can imagine how disappointed we were when we found that this section was gone!! It turned out that they did have some toasties, but they weren’t on display. So you had no idea what you were getting, and soon we saw why – they were utterly pathetic. Instead of ciabattas etc, sliced pan loaf! No butter as far as we could tell, so very dry. But the worst was the filling – in that there wasn’t any. Three quarters of the inside of the sandwiches was empty space, with a wee clump of chicken and stuff in the very middle, so that it looked like it was well filled when you cut them across! We’re old enough to remember when British Rail used to do this, and the “BR Sandwich” became a national joke. Whoever is running this place now shouldn't be, simple as that. Be a long time before you see us again!!

We were in the area on business and heard the Glenarm Castle Tea Room had gone through a change of ownership, with the re-opening coinciding with our visit to the area yesterday (26 Feb). People locally seemed quite excited about it, so we went along. So glad we did. The food was fabulous and the service was absolutely superb. We had a variety of cakes and they were all very tasty. All the food being brought out from the kitchen looked superb. There's something very special about the food scene (and the people that serve it), in County Antrim. The place overall is exceptionally warm and friendly and takes great pride in its hospitality. It's a pleasure to go there.

I gave her my card again and the charge went through. When I received my card statement, there were two separate charges. Glenarm Tea Room charged me twice for the same transaction. After contacting them and being told by email on July 3 that I would receive a credit, the credit has never been given. I have tried contacting them several times and have not received any response. I used to go here a lot pre covid and had lovely lunches. Today’s lunch was awful as it’s obviously been downgraded into sandwich shop. I ordered the ploughman’s sandwich and couldn’t believe what turned up, nasty shop bought ham with a sprinkle of pre grated cheese on a bit of Branson pickle on bread. A side of stale crisps and a half spoon of limp salad. Yuck. Why spoil a lovely concept with a very poor selection of eats. Won’t be back again and won’t advise visitors to do so. Buy a subway sandwich and eat it by the river or in your car, far nicer.

I've eaten in here a few times over the years but most recently on three occasions within the same number of days over the weekend of Camp Dalfest. Each meal was quite different so I got a good sense of the quality across a number of dishes. Day one - Burger & fries Day two - Sourdough, poached egg with bacon Day three - Open prawn salad The quality really is excellent. The burger was full of flavour, juicy and af a good size. I suspect the beef is from their own shorthorn cattle on the estate which adds to the experience. The sourdough and poached egg with bacon was perfect. The bacon was thick back bacon and tasted like bacon used to taste before the modern, water/nitrite soaked thin and flavoured rashers we normally get served today. The egg was perfectly cooked to my request and the bread was good quality. I would've liked to try the eggs benedict but the hollandasie sauce was not prepared by the kitchen so I passed. The bought in types can often be lack-lustre but i didn't experience this one so i can't comment. My feedback would be to make their own - it really lifts the dish (but to be fair I'm being really pedantic here and wouldn't change my score because of it. It might have tased incredible) The prawn salad was the highlight though. The prawns in marie-rose sauce were really good, the salad leaves were incredibly fresh (i suspect from their garden) and the dressing was perfect. The only negative was the small slice of wheaten that I suspect was stored in the fridge and had dried out slightly. My wife had the tomato soup with wheaten and her bread was completely different and something to be experienced. Baked like a wheaten scone, using a muffin tin it was rich, moist and full of flavour. I susepct they use treacle/molasses to give it a deep smokey taste. Really good and in stark contrast to the slice I received. My only advice is to get rid of the wheaten slices (or don't let them dry out) and replace with the muffic style wheaten. The servers are polite and helpful. The range of food and drinks will serve everyone's taste. The location, surroundings, decor and atmosphere are perfect. Even more impressive was the fact that they were able to deliver food and service of this quality on what is, by far, the busiest weekend of their year with thousands in the esate for the music festival. Please, if you're within a reasonable distance of Glenarm Castle grounds, make your way here for their food. While you're there, visit the formal gardens (stunning) and the local crafts people, There's a stone mason, ceramacists and painters, amongst others. You will not be disappointed.

Having read through some of the reviews I can’t argue with the ones that say the tearoom can be a bit dirty and our table today was sticky and a bit wobbly. Nicely presented with lovely decor doesn’t override cleanliness and a good deep clean, including the toilets wouldn’t go a miss. Having previously been a cleaner for 14 years I also understand time constraints on cleaners but the strength of any business is it’s cleanliness. Having said that the food has always been delicious on every visit. We travel from Scotland every year and park at Glenarm to start our holidays with a trip to the tearooms. Admittedly we have never been greeted with the same staff each year but all the staff we have encountered have been nothing but pleasant and efficient. Every year we see the improvements made outside and have enjoyed all the new additions over the years. Would highly recommend a visit especially into the wall garden which is stunning.

If a M and EABC council see the dirt of this place they will have to remove your current ratings. The tables, floor and window cills are disgusting and obviously have not been cleaned for some time. I appreciate that children and adults can spill food but this filth was not recent. One has to wonder what the kitchen must be like. It was sad to note that there were 6 English visitors in the tearoom. They could justify speaking of the 'pigs in the parlour.' As a local I will be back but only to see if things have improved and submit photographs to the Council and press if they haven't. For goodness sake get a grip and do a bit of cleaning up. The Castle tearoom staff may have no pride in Glenarm and its environs but most of us do.

We were told upon entry that the kitchen was closed and that there was a minimal service available, understandable, Catherine ordered a ham and cheese toastie, (well done) as usual I ordered a sausage roll, and of course two earl grey tea, £10 squid 🦑, when it arrived the sausage roll was acceptable we halved this and also halved the toastie, have to say firstly the tray was dumped onto the table and the waitress had no manners whatsoever, we ate the roll and I started to cut into the toasted sandwich, 🤮, a big hair, so of course Catherine being a chef of 50 years complained only to be told that it wasn’t a hair it was in fact a stringy piece of cheese, “no so my dear Watson” the waitress even tried to argue her case, anyway when she was asked what do you do in a situation like this she just answered we can only apologise, no refund, no replacement, so people’s if you go to this cafe be aware be very aware, or should that be “be afraid be very afraid” 😂

It MUST be locals who whine about the 'high prices' because I'm telling you that as someone from the mainland, the prices on the board for the main meal lunch courses looked great value, and I was worried that the portions would be small. Ha! We were a big group and everything ordered was generously portioned and excellent quality. I had the burger and chips, and it was superb - two thick beef patties, bacon, cheese, tomato, gerkin and excellent, thick-cut chips that were hot, crispy out and fluffy in. Banging - best burger in many years. My father-in-law had the ploughman's and, again, it was a mighty feast of quality produce that he struggled to finish. We followed with some of their bakery items and the Victoria Sponge was divine. The service was prompt and the staff lovely. 7 adults and three kids, all eating a main course, plus teas/coffees/soft drinks all round and a few who had cakes to follow, ALL delicious food and generously portioned to leave us so stuffed we only had a small evening meal back at home later, and averaging about £9 each. Bargain!

Visited today with a friend for lunch and was absoloutely disgusted with the lack of social distancing and such a shame to see other members of the public not following guidelines re. masks etc. For such a busy place I would have liked to have seen more regulations in place, other customers were queuing right beside our table, making it an uncomfortable environment. Staff were all very friendly despite being it being so busy. The food was delicious, especially the goats cheese salad. But overall wouldn’t rush back if looking to enjoy a relaxing afternoon out.

I am sorry to report we had a less than average meal here today, we eat here occasionally and this time was very poor. The chips were undercooked, the burger was very nice, the fish was just ok but a very small portion compared to what used to be on offer. The staff are very pleasant and surroundings are beautiful. We didn't complain but probably won't return, maybe it was just an off day but Glenarm castle tea room really should offer better for the price charged, my opinion.

Try the Double Cheese Burger with Bacon! The service can be a little but slow but it is well worth the wait! We dined alfresco in the lovely garden outside the cafe which gives you views of the castle .

Lunch - a burger (very good) and scampi. Lukewarm plates meant that the food was cold before we had eaten. The - in my opinion - more serious error was that excellent crisp scampi was plated on top of mushy peas (also above average). The result was that a potentially excellent meal was down graded by batter made soggy by the mushy peas. What a pity.

Somewhat underwhelmed. Sadly a local cafe seems to have been replaced by a functional chain and has really lost its ‘home cooked’ feel. It’s now lost its charm. Staff used to be lovely and friendly - still very pleasant but seem to be young students lacking in a bit of confidence. The place has stacks of potential but needs to move away from the feel of a Cafe Nero. Let’s get some local charm back. Not a fan of having tray bakes served on saucers because they ran out of plates as a simple example.

We visited last week- busy because of “eat out to help out” but the Glenarm classic burger is well worth the wait. Visited the shop to buy topside. All the beef is from their own Organic shorthorn herd and not at all expensive given the quality. The lady in the shop even gave me her lunch cool bag to transport the meat home. Will be back!

My husband and I have been coming to the Tea Rooms since they first opened. We have watched it grow from the original to the lovely place it is now. However on our last visit we were very disappointed in the food. My husband had the Chowder which is usually outstanding, but it was served in what I can only describe as an oversized crispy bap. I had the chicken goujons which were overdone and dry. The coffee was very good and the lemon drizzle delicious. We will be back as we love the gardens. Hope next time it will be better.

Been here on several occasions and although I still have a fondness for this cafe (and it's beautiful location) it's tainted by being able to provide consistent delicious food together with staff who are either friendly or at worst unwelcoming... even grumpy (Shirley!) On our recent visit I had hoped for the seafood chowder but it wasn't on the menu so opted for a toasted sandwich (turkey and stuffing) it was a bland tasting bite with little contents. I actually opened it and looked inside with disappointment and the scattering of crisps on the side didn't change my opinion. Previously when I have ate here the food was delicious, usually complimented with some side salad but not on this occasion. Fingers crossed management take heed of this review and when I return hopefully the quality of food and customer service will be more consistent! (PS The clothing shop, fudge shop and delightful little curiosity shop in the courtyard are great and certainly worth a visit to browse or buy!)

We’ve been a number of times - as it is on a road we use a lot - and find the tea room to be (at times) noisy, consistently not particularly friendly service-wise, the coffee can be very badly prepared and we have been charged on a number of occasions for full breakfasts etc despite only having a couple of items.

We visited the Walled Gardens at the castle today and called at the coffee shop for a quick cuppa before heading home. I can't comment on the food but we thought the coffee shop was delightful. We had tea seated in very comfy armchairs overlooking the lovely kitchen garden.

Carrot and coriander soup tasted burnt and as though vinegar had been added to try to disguise this. Only 1 Cajun chicken ciabatta on display at 1:30, we were informed there were no others - would have preferred ham and cheese. Woman who served the soup/hot food is not very welcoming. We have been eating in the cafe for years, since the old days. It's not the friendly and caring place it used to be. Shame.

A very welcoming restaurant- all the staff are very friendly and love to have a chat with you. A good selection of meals and just great for a coffee and a homemade piece of cake - a visit to the walled garden is also worthwhile - having enjoyed Hemsley walled garden in Yorkshire I would say Glenarm is on a par with it

Had a delicious lunch today in the cafe. The burgers were a very high standard and served with a lovely fresh salad and red hot chips. The cafe was very well decorated comfortable and clean. The only disappointment was the plastic flowers on the tables when the garden at the castle has so many lovely fresh flowers to choose from.

Quite a queue to get in, waited and ordered good from the counter, all looked lovely. We are all vegetarian and 2 of us ordered vegetarian frittata. Shortly after the waitress brought the food over and we ate...only for the frittata eaters to discover half way through that it had ham in it! (Small pieces so not immediately obvious). Called the waitress back, who said, " Well it's supposed to be vegetarian, I'll go and see what's happening." No one came back, so my husband went up to the counter and someone checked with the chef, who said it was meat... Got the money back and an offer of different food, but it's really not a nice thing to happen, especially for my daughter, who has vegetarian all her life. And not even any follow up from the staff

I was out walking the dog so decided I would pop in for a scone and a drink. There were lots of young girls as waitresses, mostly all standing around doing nothing. The place was quite busy and there was a long queue at the till. There was a young girl on the till who rather than just take the money seemed to have to serve people with their drinks so she was spending most of her time filling tea pots and milk jugs and not enough time taking cash hence the long queue, meanwhile at least 4 other waitresses stood around and did nothing.

Visited today with my Mum,husband and daughter for a light bite and cuppa around 4 o’clock, food was fine but I’m so annoyed that I didn’t ask the two females serving what their problem was,I asked did they do paninis and the lady pointed to the ciabatta and said same thing! Emmm actually it isn’t,I then asked did they have beetroot and she pointed to a bowl without speaking, before we had even got to the till the girl had rang everything in and hit us with a bill of £32,I politely asked if we could pay separately and the look on her face was enough! Shame as a nice wee place to relax!

Glenarm Castle tea room is very good. This was my second visit. I came with a group of friends which included a resident of Glenarm who knew the ropes. We came for lunch. This tea room has much more to offer than just tea and scones. The lunch was very good indeed. One friend had mushrooms on toast. They looked spectacular! That dish was stylish not a bit like the basic offering I prepare for myself when I am home alone. I had Caesar salad which was adapted because I am vegetarian. I was pleased with it. The others had salads which looked inviting. They both enjoyed the stuffed peppers which they declared were home made.

Very poor hotel. I don't understand why it has 4 stars. It deserves 3 at most. The room is quite spacious without air conditioning which translates into discomfort because you have to open the window to get fresh air and outside the window is the Asda distribution center. I had the displeasure of staying for 5 nights. I paid for 5 breakfasts but only used one because they are served from 7:30. The breakfast was disgusting, it has nothing to do with food. No buffet only English breakfast .... the worst thing that can be. There are no taxis and if you do find one, you only pay in cash. When checking out, no one asked how your stay was.

I was there at carvery with my husband for my birthday and everything was lovely, food was delicious, the only thing was when we went up for main we lifted plates and they were really hot had to use 2 napkins to hold it and my husband behind me bumped into me with plate and burned my arm. The man serving the meat saw me jumping and said he thinks those plates were at the bottom so long they've overheated and lifted a lot out to cool, I went to bar and girl gave me some ice in a napkin which I had to hold against it, there was a couple of plates already sitting out but the one on top had gravy on it so lifted one of the other ones apart from that we had a lovely meal and then a walk in the gardens which r beautiful and we will certainly be back

Fish was fried in black oil, the burnt oil was the dominant taste…Scampi was from frozen with so poor quality, only 6 scampi with chips and a bit of peas was £11, it certainly did not worth it and did not taste fresh, waste of money, won’t go back and don’t recommend
