We had hesitated over whether to go to the Tea Room for food after seeing negative reviews, but are so glad we went. Arrived at 12 noon at start of lunch menu. Family meal- 2 kids and 2 adults. Food was delicious, served really quickly and presented really well. Goujons were so fresh and the club sandwich was so tasty. We had a lovely meal, in beautiful surroundings, and were ready to enjoy the rest of our day. Will definitely be back!

Stopped off twice recently. We had coffee and a tray bake only each time. No complaints on the quality, but it can be expensive. Over £16 for 2 coffee and 2 tray bakes. For comparison for £1 less, we can have 2 coffees and 2 small fries in The Prom in Larne. We still will stop off soon again, though. The 'feel' off the tea room makes up for the cost.

Went for a panini and a toastie. Several hot drinks. The service was hurried and brusque the pre made panini came under toasted and the pre made toastie had half its bread missing and was again undertoasted congealed cheese. Drinks were cold, servers definitely couldn’t be bothered it was 40 minutes before closing but they just didn’t want to be there. It used to be nice. Will not go back.

This place gets worse. I said the last time I was there that I wouldn't go back. Well I did and I won't be back. Long queue. Finally got to till after giving the first girl my order the next girl asked for my order again. Waited 25 mins for our meals. The waiter did apologise and offered us more tea. We refused. I ordered chowder, it was the worst I have ever tasted full of uncut scallions., grey fish, no potatoes or veg.it was disgusting. My hubby had fish and chips. It was edible. He didn't finish his. Was going to complain but why bother. This time I won't be back.

We ordered lunch here after our visit to the gardens on June 7, 2024. After charging my card the first time, the clerk said the charge did not go through. I gave her my card again and the charge went through. When I received my card statement, there were two separate charges. Glenarm Tea Room charged me twice for the same transaction. After contacting them and being told by email on July 3 that I would receive a credit, the credit has never been given. I have tried contacting them several times and have not received any response. I wonder how often this happens here?

Cannot recommend to stop here. The cake, a small piece of cheesecake with dried edges was charged with more than 5 £, the floor was dirty from former customers and none of the staff noticed, the tables were sticky, and people left their wet coats hanging on chairs at empty tables, which added to the lacking of a nice tea room atmosphere.

Confusing ordering system in the cafe. Stood in the queue to order and when I got to the front the waitress said you have to order food at the other till which I'd already passed (and no server asked for my food order) so then I felt rude pushing in and had to join the back of the same line again as it's all one queue. Very odd, makes no sense, (and no signs to state this), and unhelpful staff!

I used to go here a lot pre covid and had lovely lunches. Today’s lunch was awful as it’s obviously been downgraded into sandwich shop. I ordered the ploughman’s sandwich and couldn’t believe what turned up, nasty shop bought ham with a sprinkle of pre grated cheese on a bit of Branson pickle on bread. A side of stale crisps and a half spoon of limp salad. Yuck. Why spoil a lovely concept with a very poor selection of eats. Won’t be back again and won’t advise visitors to do so. Buy a subway sandwich and eat it by the river or in your car, far nicer.

Dropped in for lunch today and ordered a carrot and coriander soup with a sandwich. Sandwich was fine but called waitress over as soup was horrid and nothing like carrot and coriander. It was dark brown and spicy . I asked for it to be returned to chef and that was it . Waitress asked if I wanted something else but what would I be asking for at that stage ???? No feedback from kitchen and no offer of refund for a bowl of soup sent back to kitchen full . Feeling totally ignored. Won't be in a hurry back ! Especially at a total of £14.50 for soup, sandwich and a coke .

I've eaten in here a few times over the years but most recently on three occasions within the same number of days over the weekend of Camp Dalfest. Each meal was quite different so I got a good sense of the quality across a number of dishes. Day one - Burger & fries Day two - Sourdough, poached egg with bacon Day three - Open prawn salad The quality really is excellent. The burger was full of flavour, juicy and af a good size. I suspect the beef is from their own shorthorn cattle on the estate which adds to the experience. The sourdough and poached egg with bacon was perfect. The bacon was thick back bacon and tasted like bacon used to taste before the modern, water/nitrite soaked thin and flavoured rashers we normally get served today. The egg was perfectly cooked to my request and the bread was good quality. I would've liked to try the eggs benedict but the hollandasie sauce was not prepared by the kitchen so I passed. The bought in types can often be lack-lustre but i didn't experience this one so i can't comment. My feedback would be to make their own - it really lifts the dish (but to be fair I'm being really pedantic here and wouldn't change my score because of it. It might have tased incredible) The prawn salad was the highlight though. The prawns in marie-rose sauce were really good, the salad leaves were incredibly fresh (i suspect from their garden) and the dressing was perfect. The only negative was the small slice of wheaten that I suspect was stored in the fridge and had dried out slightly. My wife had the tomato soup with wheaten and her bread was completely different and something to be experienced. Baked like a wheaten scone, using a muffin tin it was rich, moist and full of flavour. I susepct they use treacle/molasses to give it a deep smokey taste. Really good and in stark contrast to the slice I received. My only advice is to get rid of the wheaten slices (or don't let them dry out) and replace with the muffic style wheaten. The servers are polite and helpful. The range of food and drinks will serve everyone's taste. The location, surroundings, decor and atmosphere are perfect. Even more impressive was the fact that they were able to deliver food and service of this quality on what is, by far, the busiest weekend of their year with thousands in the esate for the music festival. Please, if you're within a reasonable distance of Glenarm Castle grounds, make your way here for their food. While you're there, visit the formal gardens (stunning) and the local crafts people, There's a stone mason, ceramacists and painters, amongst others. You will not be disappointed.

Having read through some of the reviews I can’t argue with the ones that say the tearoom can be a bit dirty and our table today was sticky and a bit wobbly. Nicely presented with lovely decor doesn’t override cleanliness and a good deep clean, including the toilets wouldn’t go a miss. Having previously been a cleaner for 14 years I also understand time constraints on cleaners but the strength of any business is it’s cleanliness. Having said that the food has always been delicious on every visit. We travel from Scotland every year and park at Glenarm to start our holidays with a trip to the tearooms. Admittedly we have never been greeted with the same staff each year but all the staff we have encountered have been nothing but pleasant and efficient. Every year we see the improvements made outside and have enjoyed all the new additions over the years. Would highly recommend a visit especially into the wall garden which is stunning.

If a M and EABC council see the dirt of this place they will have to remove your current ratings. The tables, floor and window cills are disgusting and obviously have not been cleaned for some time. I appreciate that children and adults can spill food but this filth was not recent. One has to wonder what the kitchen must be like. It was sad to note that there were 6 English visitors in the tearoom. They could justify speaking of the 'pigs in the parlour.' As a local I will be back but only to see if things have improved and submit photographs to the Council and press if they haven't. For goodness sake get a grip and do a bit of cleaning up. The Castle tearoom staff may have no pride in Glenarm and its environs but most of us do.

I visited Glenarm Castle Tea Room with a friend recently for lunch. I am vegan and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of choice there. In fact, we both had the vegan ravioli which was delicious and even had vegan parmesan which shows that a lot of thought and care had been put into the dish. We then had the vegan apple pie with vegan ice cream which I can safely say I'll be back for! (I hope it'll still be there ;)) The staff were very friendly and accommodating in helping us with the vegan choices (I believe there was a vegan soup too. Maybe next time.) We were told upon entry that the kitchen was closed and that there was a minimal service available, understandable, Catherine ordered a ham and cheese toastie, (well done) as usual I ordered a sausage roll, and of course two earl grey tea, £10 squid 🦑, when it arrived the sausage roll was acceptable we halved this and also halved the toastie, have to say firstly the tray was dumped onto the table and the waitress had no manners whatsoever, we ate the roll and I started to cut into the toasted sandwich, 🤮, a big hair, so of course Catherine being a chef of 50 years complained only to be told that it wasn’t a hair it was in fact a stringy piece of cheese, “no so my dear Watson” the waitress even tried to argue her case, anyway when she was asked what do you do in a situation like this she just answered we can only apologise, no refund, no replacement, so people’s if you go to this cafe be aware be very aware, or should that be “be afraid be very afraid” 😂

It MUST be locals who whine about the 'high prices' because I'm telling you that as someone from the mainland, the prices on the board for the main meal lunch courses looked great value, and I was worried that the portions would be small. Ha! We were a big group and everything ordered was generously portioned and excellent quality. I had the burger and chips, and it was superb - two thick beef patties, bacon, cheese, tomato, gerkin and excellent, thick-cut chips that were hot, crispy out and fluffy in. Banging - best burger in many years. My father-in-law had the ploughman's and, again, it was a mighty feast of quality produce that he struggled to finish. We followed with some of their bakery items and the Victoria Sponge was divine. The service was prompt and the staff lovely. 7 adults and three kids, all eating a main course, plus teas/coffees/soft drinks all round and a few who had cakes to follow, ALL delicious food and generously portioned to leave us so stuffed we only had a small evening meal back at home later, and averaging about £9 each. Bargain!

Lunch - a burger (very good) and scampi. Lukewarm plates meant that the food was cold before we had eaten. The - in my opinion - more serious error was that excellent crisp scampi was plated on top of mushy peas (also above average). The result was that a potentially excellent meal was down graded by batter made soggy by the mushy peas. What a pity.

Somewhat underwhelmed. Sadly a local cafe seems to have been replaced by a functional chain and has really lost its ‘home cooked’ feel. It’s now lost its charm. Staff used to be lovely and friendly - still very pleasant but seem to be young students lacking in a bit of confidence. The place has stacks of potential but needs to move away from the feel of a Cafe Nero. Let’s get some local charm back. Not a fan of having tray bakes served on saucers because they ran out of plates as a simple example.

Been here on several occasions and although I still have a fondness for this cafe (and it's beautiful location) it's tainted by being able to provide consistent delicious food together with staff who are either friendly or at worst unwelcoming... even grumpy (Shirley!) On our recent visit I had hoped for the seafood chowder but it wasn't on the menu so opted for a toasted sandwich (turkey and stuffing) it was a bland tasting bite with little contents. I actually opened it and looked inside with disappointment and the scattering of crisps on the side didn't change my opinion. Previously when I have ate here the food was delicious, usually complimented with some side salad but not on this occasion. Fingers crossed management take heed of this review and when I return hopefully the quality of food and customer service will be more consistent! (PS The clothing shop, fudge shop and delightful little curiosity shop in the courtyard are great and certainly worth a visit to browse or buy!)

Quite a queue to get in, waited and ordered good from the counter, all looked lovely. We are all vegetarian and 2 of us ordered vegetarian frittata. Shortly after the waitress brought the food over and we ate...only for the frittata eaters to discover half way through that it had ham in it! (Small pieces so not immediately obvious). Called the waitress back, who said, " Well it's supposed to be vegetarian, I'll go and see what's happening." No one came back, so my husband went up to the counter and someone checked with the chef, who said it was meat... Got the money back and an offer of different food, but it's really not a nice thing to happen, especially for my daughter, who has vegetarian all her life. And not even any follow up from the staff

The place was quite busy and there was a long queue at the till. There was a young girl on the till who rather than just take the money seemed to have to serve people with their drinks so she was spending most of her time filling tea pots and milk jugs and not enough time taking cash hence the long queue, meanwhile at least 4 other waitresses stood around and did nothing.

This tea room has much more to offer than just tea and scones. The lunch was very good indeed. One friend had mushrooms on toast. They looked spectacular! That dish was stylish not a bit like the basic offering I prepare for myself when I am home alone. I had Caesar salad which was adapted because I am vegetarian. I was pleased with it. My husband and I called in here on Sunday 7th April for a late lunch. When we arrived the place was very busy, however a member of staff quickly found us a table and we went and placed our order, my husband went for the Angus beef burger with chips and side and I went for the special, lamb & Mediterranean vegetable moussaka. Both our meals were delicious and freshly made. We both had dessert afterwards ( key lime pie for me and chocolate cake for hubby) which again looked homemade and tasted delicious. Lovely surroundings and pleasant staff. This place really is a hidden gem and we came across it by chance. The next time we are in the area we will definitely make a visit for lunch a must.

Don't listen to the moaners!! honestly this is the best place for freshly made to order, good quality food. The burgers are made from Glenarm's own estate reared beef & the chowder is full to the brim with fish & so tasty! The selection of desserts is amazing, so hard to choose!! I had a piece of home made carrot cake (probably the best I’ve ever had!) & my partner had strawberry Pavlova with a berry sauce on it which was equally as yummy!

We used to visit Glenarm Castle tearooms before it was renovated and you could get lovely home cooked cakes and meals, now it has been transformed it into visually attractive premises but with small portioned bland food at expensive prices.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch yesterday. Had the goats cheese salad - around £7-8 per head. Absolutely delicious but honestly it could have fitted in a saucer - really very tiny portions. Basically it was a portion of a bag of supermarket salad leaves, a small boiled beetroot, and very small portion of cheese, with a balsamic reduction as dressing. I had a very similar lunch the previous day in a local eatery and I received a whole goats cheese, salad and French roll as a starter and it only cost me £3.95. It was much more substantial and filling. The wheaten bread which we needed to increase the size of the portion was priced separately. We had lemon meringue for desert (split between the two of us) which was reasonable in size and very good. I bought a packet of O'Donnells crisps for the journey afterwards - £1.45 - honestly they are 80p in other cafes. We both loved this location but at just under £30 for lunch it was 5 star hotel prices, in a cafe. Additionally the tea for 2 came in a small pot which only provided enough tea for one and a half small cups each. Honestly folks, hot water is cheap - surely if you provided a teapot which contained about 4-6 cups worth of tea, you might increase your business with folks returning to the counter to purchase tray-bakes or cake with which to finish their tea! All in all a really beautiful location, beautiful cafe but one which in our opinion really overcharges and under delivers in terms of portion size.

We have stopped off here for lunch, twice, recently and been very pleased with the ambience, the service and the standard of meals. There's an extensive 'Brunch' menu as well as a variety of 'Specials'. The service is cheerful and efficient. we shall certainly return.

The cafe website advised it was open on Sunday 30th December and we drove their to meet friends for lunch. A handwritten sign posted on the inside gate said closed until 11 January. Several cars drove up while we were there. Appreciate with hindsight we should have rung ahead to check but it would have taken little effort to post advice on holiday opening times on their website and it would be courteous to visitors and tourists too.

We stopped for lunch at the Glenarm Castle Tea Room. It was delicious! I am still talking about the Cajun chicken sandwich! Very delicious. Great coffee as well. We were disappointed the gardens were closed, but the food did not disappoint!

The seafood chowder was exceptional and absolutely chock full of seafood piled high over the top of the bowl. The carrot soup was flavorful and perfect for a light lunch on a cool day. The bread that came with the soups was also wonderful.

I called down to the tea room today with my family we had ordered our coffees and cake when we were advised the card machine was broken. We didn’t happen to have cash on us so myself and my partner walked into the town in search of a cash machine. There was only one cash machine in town which was out of money. We headed back up to the tea room after asking in each of the Glenarm castle shops would they on this occasion do cash back but to no avail. We did eventually scrape enough cash together to get tea and cake but by that stage none of us were in the mood. The staff were very unhelpful and we eventually found out the card machine has been broken for 8 days and they have made no effort to fix it. While the Glenarm castle gardens are lovely I would give the tea room with its mediocre yet expensive food and incompetent staff a miss!!!!

Biggest problem here is the queueing & seating system - it's a bit of a mess to be honest. Scones, tart & buns were fine, lattes a little on the luke warm side. Nice surroundings, clean & tidy.

Matties have a new specials menu for Monday-Wednesday. It's excellent value at 2 courses for £12.50. I had beef chilli with rice and then cheesecake. Both were delicious.
