It was ok. But for the price I was expecting more. Small portions, and just expensive for what we got. Fish was fairly fresh, and the chips wasn’t bad

I just felt like a treat on a cold day and I definitely got one. The Chips were perfect some crispy edges great colour and not greasy at all ! As for the Steak and kidney Pudding it was sublime the meat was tender in a thick and very tasty gravy the best I've ever had and I've had a fair few! The suet was soft but held its shape when sliced through and not too thick who ever makes the puddings should win an award ☺️ I will be returning to have more of the same in the very near future 😀

I never review meals but just had to today as had the most over priced, disappointing meal ever. Waited for over an hour for fish and chips. The fish was grey and was all batter. The bread was stale and hard having been left under the pass for too long and the butter was just an oily mess. It should not have been served and the chef should have known better. I did not complain as could not find anyone to complain to. The poor lad at the bar was on his own doing a stirling job with a massive queue waiting to be served. He was bar man, waiter and server. Worst meal ever, so disappointed.

Whilst many reviews say that their food was swimming in grease, my partner and I dodged that particular bullet. 1 Sausage, 1 regular cod, 1 large portion of chips and 2 small sauces was £14!!! In my 2 minute walk home (I'm a local and this was my 1st visit) the chips were lukewarm when I arrived. My partner liked his cod though we were disappointed by the portion sizes of the cod and the chips. My sausage tasted of nothing and was a bit tough. Overall very disappointed and will never return.

Visited The Coach House on Friday lunch time having being told it was a super chip shop. I ordered a regular cod, chips and mushy peas and asked for it to be served in a tray and was charged a staggering £10.80. Maybe, just maybe this price would have been warranted if the food wasn’t so oily/greasy. In hindsight I should have questioned the price but didn’t as it was a treat day. Surely I’m right in thinking that what I ordered was overpriced? All those items when served separately could have cost that price but surely to be served in a tray means that the price would be lower? Either way I have been served better in my local area of Leek and at a much cheaper price.

Popped in for a quick lunch as I was starving. Saw the ridiculous prices so just had the chips and gravy on a small tray. £3.75. For a handful of chips and bit of gravy. That's the worst bit. When I tried to eat them I the chips were too stale to even put my teeth through them. They must've been sat there for hours to be that tough. Easily the worst chips I have ever had. A fish, chip, peas, bread and hot or cold drink for £10.50 each. Not bad, until you get your calculator out and work out that it's cheaper to buy everything separately! depending which drink you opt for, it's about 50-75p cheaper, so just order separately. When we paid the bill we pointed this out but clearly they already knew this. Overall, a bit of a con, pricewise, but good food. Upon entry we had to wait for the waitresses to finish their gossip before being able to order- then ordered an overpriced but nevertheless nice portion of chips but when we attempted to sit down we were told it's more expensive to eat in which is barbaric but if that's the law so be it. What angered me was how the seemingly untrained young waitress never offered us the choice of whether to eat in or take away. This is the result of the owners choosing to hire young, below par waitresses for the sake of cheap labour. You'd think with the price they charge for the food and the seemingly low expenditure on the decor of the interior, they'd have some spare money to hire competent staff.

Recently called in here whilst visiting friends in Buxton, from outside it looks very nice, but once inside ooh my dear. Small waiting area, when even a couple of customers in looks full. The decor is something out of the 1880. The staff behind the counter were the rudest, most ignorant Ived ever come across in a takeaway / restaurant. With the attitude you are disturbing them and why should we help you. The food ordered was also very expensive, small chips and peas £3:50 . Just plonked on a tray. You can't put your own vinegar and salt on, because you may use to much. There was no polite thank you conversation just very basic conversation. Eer what did you say, etc. The food was very poor, cold soggy chips, watery peas, not pleasant at all. Overall I would give it 0 out of 10. The Coach House has always been our chippy of choice in Buxton, but today we found that new fish-shaped plates have been introduced. These are too small to eat off and it also means that portion sizes have probably been reduced. I had the mini special fish and chips and the plate was so narrow that the fish was placed on top of the chips, and most of the chips were small hard bits (as per previous review) and it was also difficult to stop the chips sliding off the plate when cutting into the fish. I gave the waitress some feedback at the end and she said the staff don't like the new plates either. She suggested that we ask for normal plates when/if we go again. It sounds petty, but it really spoiled my visit!

I ordered my chips and went to sit outside. I noticed straight away that about 80% of the chips were the small left over hard bits that get left behind when scooping up the chips to bag them. You know the type - the pointy hard 2-3cm chips. I hardly got any regular long soft chips. I was in a rush to go somewhere so just tried to eat what I could. Eating the soft bits and leaving behind the hard bits. In the end I had so much left behind that I couldn't eat I got so annoyed I went back in and plonked the left over food on their counter and left.

The fish was freshly cooked and the chips were large and tasty. I opted for the take away option, although there is the provision to eat in house. Unlike the majority of fish & chip shops these days, the coach house offered smaller portions of both fish and chips. So many these days give you far too much for a single person to eat, this results in either over eating or throwing good food away - neither a good option.

6 of us visit the Peak District from time to time and have ducked in here for a meal before. We tend to eat before heading over the road to Sainsburys and do the weekend shopping for a walking trip. Last time we visited 2 years ago it was great, so we were really looking forward to eating here again.

Stopped here on a whim and was pleasently surprised at how good the fish was. Batter was light, crispy and non greasy and the cod was lovely and fresh. I had the small cod meal which was more then enough, peas were very good to. My husband had the medium meal which was also a decent size. The price was a little higher then we usually pay (£15.25 for 2 meals) but not going to quibble when its enjoyable. Toilets were very clean.

I went at tea-time yesterday 25/08/15 and ordered a large Cod and small chips to takeaway. . . . I might add at this point that I am on a walking stick and it is obvious as I am leaning on it.

The delivery service was fine . We order at least once a week, however today the bread used for both sandwiches was stale, we had to bin both, such a shame as normally the food as been ok .

I’m visiting the area and decided to treat myself to a chippy tea. I looked on the price list and saw that chilli and chips were on offer at £3.95! I thought “I’m having some of that”. At my local chippy it’s more than double the price. It took a while to cook because it wasn’t a usual item which people were ordering. It was a Friday so it was quite busy and a heck of a lot of fish were being freshly cooked. The owner and the lady helping him were really busy but they still had the ability to talk to me whilst putting my order together. I explained that I was just visiting the area and asked where I could find certain places. They were both more than helpful. Got my tea home and it was DELICIOUS! Thank you for a tasty tea. I cannot believe the prices you are charging, definitely good value for money.
