Fries: quite good, but not the best ever (as some reviewers suggest) Fish: good quality fish, but very greasy. Nice owner. Be aware that this is a cash only shop. I got money from the store just across the road, so no problem in the end. You pay 5 pounds for either haddock or cod and 2 pounds for a portion of chips.

Staying on the nearby Campsite, and fancied some fish & chips, so visited the local chippy..... and wished I hadn't upon being told they had no haddock, settled for a jumbo battered sausage, chips and gravy The chips were awful, rock hard and overcooked, the gravy was tepid & lumpy, and the sausage was undercooked, and coated in a batter which tasted burnt and which was as nearly awful as the chips. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!! (I highly recommend the nearby Italian, we went the next night and the staff were friendly, helpful and the food was far superior)

Great little fish and chip shop. Fast service and quite busy. We had the special (fishcake chips peas £2.99) real potatoes makes all the difference but was quite salty. We did ask for salt and vinegar but had we known it was going to be as salty would have not had added salt. Very reasonable prices.

Ordered haddock and chips but only had cod. Chips very hard, a little over cooked. Cod was fine, batter crispy but the oil needed changing as it tasted very fatty and was very yellow not pale. It was doused in salt and vinegar which still couldn’t hide the dirty oil taste unfortunately. I wouldn’t bother again

Set in the heart of Hayfield this little fish and chip shop cooks everything fresh to order. Good sized portions and reasonably priced. An asset to the village. Only downside is restricted opening hours and when we visited was closing at 7.30pm which for Southerners is very early for a chippy.

Visited Friday 30/08. I was staying in village with my Dad.They appear to cook everything to order but we’re having a problem with the range and one of the three pans was off. The place was not that busy but I had a long wait but I am discounting that because they were nice and very apologetic.I suspect the other pans weren’t as hot as they should have been and so things were also taking longer to cook.Chips were good as were peas but fish was very oily and not to my taste.I sense they have better nights.

This is the second time I have come across this chippy (at 2 different caravan sites) and BOTH times they were unable to provide me with the allergy information I needed to ensure my child was safe to eat it, despite having allergy posters up! Is it not illegal to sell food without being able to provide a list of ingredients? It’s bad enough to not provide the ingredients on our first visit..... but TWICE! It’s not good enough, and despite the apologies (although I heard the lady being rather cross with me under breath as I walked away), it meant that my children could not have the sausages and chips they wanted to have for their dinner that evening. Very annoying.

Visited this evening after dropping my son at football nearby and waited 30 minutes for 2 portions of chips with gravy and a pie. The chippy was busy on arrival and everyone in front of us had been served we waited 25 minutes to be served and even then the staff who to be fair were working hard had no idea who was next. The main issue appeared to be only frying for one order at a time and sometimes not even enough chips were cooked to complete the orders waiting meaning that they were part ready and then waiting again. Once prepared the food was literally thrown into the bag resulting in it spilling a lot of the gravy as seen on the photo. In our opinion travel the extra few minutes on to Chinley where you will find a fantastic chippy we won’t be returning to this one.

Once in a while it’s great to give yourself a night off from calorie counting and have a fish supper, so long as you choose the right plaice, (Sorry, had to.) The other cold, wet, windy, August Saturday evening we just fancied cheering ourselves up with some good old Northern comfort food, so we tried out ‘The Village Chippy” in Hayfield, High Peak, Derbyshire – which is under relatively new management and it is vastly improved. They have about half a dozen formica topped tables for patrons who prefer to dine-in. It was 7:35pm and they close at 8pm; the place was empty and the Lady in charge of the fryer had just whipped just off her pinny when we arrived; but she was so welcoming and hospitable, nothing was too much trouble as she ushered us to our table by the widow. It’s a very neat, clean and tidy looking little dinning room and the chairs are quite comfy. I chose Haddock, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a lovely pot of good strong tea. The batter on my chunky, juicy piece of Haddock was exceptionally light and fluffy. It was utterly scrumptious and the chips were perfect: Crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside - to pilfer a phrase from Gregg Wallace. My companion ordered the same, but couldn’t resist adding gravy and chip-shop curry sauce. So, all in all, fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a pot of tea, twice, plus gravy and curry sauce - dining in, came to just under £15. What's not to like.

Really pleased to have found this "traditional" chippy. Even the Senior Citizens special was generous, including bread/butter and a drink. Our overall bill came to less than we would have paid for a single equivalent meal nearby. Our food was quickly prepared and reminded us of the fish and chips we had when much younger. As an aside, it was amusing to listen in to the banter with local people. Overall, a good experience.
