The Clink Restaurant in Lambeth

Great experience! Once you pass all the security checks , it is a lovely restaurant. We really enjoyed our meal ( great presentation, huge roast ) and our assigned waiter was super friendly and professional.

Great experience, it's fairly pricey, but the food is good quality. Waiters were really friendly and were up for a chat. We went for lunch which is à la carte, keen to try the Sunday roast set menu at some point!

Great food really good service! Unique setting.

The food was excellent and the service outstanding. Clearly very well trained. Alongside a couple of drinks it came to around £75 a head. Entered after a security check and after an explanation as to what could enter the prison. There were lockers for all other possessions. ID is kept in return for the visitor lanyard. Toilets are available in the restaurant. Our Thursday night meal ended around 8.30 and we were escorted out the prison. The actual restaurant is fairly humdrum but some good art on the walls. Music playing throughout which kept neighbour’s conversations out of earshot. I’d highly recommend the sour apple mocktail drink. So good. It was a bit pricey but a very different experience and the food was a great standard.

Great experience and excellent way to support the charity

We did the Thursday night gourmet dinner and the whole experience was excellent. The food was incredible, well plated and more importantly, absolutely delicious.. there were no leftovers in sight, including our table! The service was great, our waiter Tim was attentive and professional but also very friendly and easy to chat with. Even to the point of gently making sure I knew what I was ordering with Hen of the woods, which he repeated back as ‘the mushrooms..’ a kind way of confirming the customer knows they are ordering mushrooms not chicken without making anyone feel silly! The mocktails are good, and there are a couple of alcohol free beers available too. It is definitely weird not having a phone but it was also pretty nice being truly engaged in the experience. They also do a Sunday lunch which would be worth a try. A great initiative, superbly executed. Cannot recommend this enough

Love it..food absolutely delicious

We went on Thursday evening for the gourmet dinner option and it didn't disappoint. The food was amazing. All the waiters were very attentive and friendly. Had a nice chat with our waiter too. It was such a unique experience, I'd definitely go again to try the Sunday lunch. Not a phone in sight...very liberating!

The food was amazing and such a good idea. As a dining experience it was great. The restaurant is dry for obvious reasons but they serve lovely alcohol free cocktails, beers and gins. It takes a while to check in and you need to provide your details to them days in advance and turn up with I.D. you can take nothing in with you other than a card to pay. Lockers are provided. Don't let this put you off. Support this worthy venture.

A fantastic experience with absolutely delicious food and huge portions - make sure to come hungry!

Overdue review. I visited a few months ago. We had a lovely afternoon. We really enjoyed our meal and the experience. The waiter's tried their best to be professional which was amusing at times. I'll call it "road man with manners" service. I'd definitely recommend visiting. My only criticism was the cheap, flimsy, plastic, cutlery. Obviously given to us for safety reasons, however we were also given glasses to drink from! A bit of a contradiction! There's much better quality plastic cutlery out there and for the cost of the meal, better quality knives and forks would have been appreciated.

Came here for a meal for my birthday as a surprise. It was delicious the food from starter’s to dessert’s and everything in between was amazing it all tasted fantastic presentation was as good if not better than some other restaurants I have been in despite no alcohol the homemade ginger beer was lovely as was the spice 92 I had they have a really good selection of drinks on the menu also have to say the best flat white coffee I have had it tasted like coffee not warm milk. And the guys who wait on you are a lot better mannered than some waiters I have come across. They do a fantastic job. And if you go like we did in December and have their Christmas menu the mince pies are delicious. I would highly recommend and we will definitely go back. So if you can book a table it’s really worth a visit. Not allowed to take pictures which is understandable.

Fantastic food and fantastic service. We were served by Joel who was lovely.

We ate here last year and I am overdue rating it. Really excellent luncheon. Our server James was very attentive and the program is interesting. It seems everyone gets a chance in the kitchen, at the bar making the delicious mocktails (we each enjoyed two) and serving the guests. If you live in London it is a must do experience. We were visiting from Canada, so for a tourist it is an excellent reason to get off the beaten tourist paths, support a worthy cause, and then we spent the afternoon in Brixton. We got a tea towel souvenir too!

I was here with my partner and it was her birthday dinner. She was curious about this and so we decided to try. The whole experience was very good. The food was delicious, we had 3 courses, the staff were friendly and very professional. The restaurant itself is decorated nicely, and although you never forget you are inside a prison, it's never gimmicky or voyeuristic. It was wonderful to have a really well-made and well-served meal, and that this contributes to giving inmates a chance at obtaining a hospitality qualification makes it even better. I will definitely recommend it to others and, if they let me, I will be back!

Brilliant concept. We used a virgins couple voucher and never having heard of Clink Restaurants we decided to give it a go and so glad we did, the food was excellent and way beyond our expectations. The security before we entered was easy, and added to the experience. The restaurant was well laid out and looked welcoming and cheerful. All the waiting staff were attentive and appeared to enjoy the role, answering all our questions. The chefs produced some of the best food we have had and all presented to a professional standard and we wish them well if they choose to enter the trade. The menu was varied and something for everyone. We would certainly recommend the restaurant and will hopefully come back. Good luck to all involved

Unfortunately we were 10 mins late due to roadworks and were denied entry. Very unfriendly, intransigent and unwelcoming, . Won't make the effort to go back. Wouldn't recommend for anyone else.

We had a lovely lunch at the clink, our wait staff were friendly, and our host was informative. The food was really delicious and I would happily go back. I'd love to try out some of their baked goods like the bread too, remember to pre-order this!

Yesterday I took a group of 15 members of our U3A for lunch They all were totally surprised at the quality of the food and presentation. All the staff did an excellent job and were very polite and helpful. The professional staff did a very good job of overseeing and and were very supportive This must be one of most unusual venues in London and well worth a visit

Very good food, I had the venison steak which was perfectly cooked. Difficult to give it a score for atmosphere as its inside a prison! But good service and felt like a restaurant apart from the bars on the windows and security!

A fabulous concept and really great cooking/ food. We thought the food would be basic but the menu was fabulous. Lots of choices, a well thought out menu, and the staff try their best. Great to spend and afternoon interacting with the staff in training there, a rare opportunity for us and for them to normalise hospitality/interactions and support their skills training.

A great, innovative idea! The set menu was lovely, with lots of different choices and great food. The duck breast was absolutely incredible! Had a lovely server named John who spoke about the programme and explained it all to us.

When we entered the restaurant, the workers were extremely friendly and attentive - we had John as our server and he was really lovely. Throughout our time here we had a lovely chat with him to find out about his prison experience and he said he had 8 weeks left and seemed excited. The food was amazing - between us we had soup & pate for starter, duck & pork tenderloin for main & 2x chocolate desserts and it was all of really high standard! One of the best meals in London we’ve had. Overall the experience was excellent and we would definitely go back - was nice not having our phones on us and only having mocktails! Wishing John and the other servers all the best, you can see how much this job and training meant for them all.

Went for the Thursday Gourmet night. What a wonderfully positive experience, and genuinely really delicious food, beautifully presented! One of the waiters who served us had been working on the programme and was being released in 3 weeks. Another was working his first night - he had a great sense of humour and mentioned that he'd never had a job before (d**g dealer). It sounds like this is a popular programme for inmates, with a waiting list for those wanting to join. Spoke with their teacher before leaving who explained that they continue to support the men when they transition back to life outside the prison gates and (hopefully) into employment. So this is the start of a hopeful journey for many of them. It was a privilege to be a part of this. And seriously good food! Well done to the amazing team who make this possible and to the men - keep up the good work. Remember to arrive 30 minutes early to clear security, to wear suitable clothing (as per the email) and that you will need to put all your belongings (except a credit card and a good old fashioned watch) into the small lockers. No alcohol, but a good mocktails menu and home made ginger beer and lemonade as alternative options. Over 18s only.

Incredible and unique experience. The concept behind this restaurant is laudable. The servers were very friendly. The food was very good, better than plenty of other regular restaurants I've been to. Great to see they have vegan options. The dessert was a bit too sweet for me. Highly recommend a visit. As a warning, no phones, cash, keys, jewellery, or cards are allowed inside. These must all be left in the locker. You can only bring 1 card in which you will use to pay for the meal.

Grabbed a cinnamon bun and a doughnut from the Clink bakery stall at the Streatham food fair this afternoon. Both amazingly delicious. What a great and tasty initiative - will definitely book in for the restaurant. Thank you!

Truly an extraordinary gourmet dining experience in London! The food was outstanding and, without a doubt, one of the best meals I have had in my life. Compliments to the chefs in the kitchen 👏 The serving staff did a terrific job and it was lovely having a little chat with each staff member in between courses. Overall, a fantastic evening and I have already booked a table to come back for a Sunday Roast next month. Highly recommend!

We had an exceptional Sunday lunch here today. The food was fantastic - particularly the heritage tomato tart with burrata I had as a starter. This was hands down one of the best things I have ever eaten! The service was great. Our server Ted was fantastic and gave excellent recommendations and made the experience a real 10/10 for us. An all round fantastic experience- we knew we'd be doing something quite unique (and the security process is no joke) but we had a really genuine, warm experience with inmates who were keen to learn, to chat, to show off their skills, and to give us an absolutely amazing dinner.

A amazing and unique culinary experience! First class food, you'll spend no more than £50 (including drinks) and all for a great cause. The service was as you would expect from any top restaurant. The waiters were so attentive and always made sure you were ok. I'd recommend arriving with ID and a bank card as lockers in the storage space goes quick.

My wife and I dined at the Clink HMP Brixton for Sunday lunch. The food, all 3 courses, were exceptional. The service from the staff was great. Exceptional value, supporting a great charity to rehabilitate serving prisoners.

Had a wonderful 3 course meal with great service from the staff. It wasn't my first time visiting The Clink. However it was my first time dining there. The previous visit was an event held there around rehabilitation which included a tour and overview of the training provided and employability options upon release for the inmates. The lunch menu was varied with some options across each course. The bread is also baked onsite, also some other fittings and fixtures that are produced by inmates. Including some fantastic art work. The overall experience is fine dining, creative menu with aesthetically pleasing presentation. Highly recommend visiting...please note there's no alcohol available as it's inside the perimeter of HMP Brixton. Therefore you must go through security, no phones, technology or contraband is allowed. Essentially just a card for payment.

A unique culinary experience! First class food, fairly priced and a great cause. The service was as you would expect from any top restaurant. Our young waiter Kevin was very efficient and friendly with a relaxed manner. Best wishes to him for his future.

Wonderful menu; atmosphere and service far better than most restaurants in London. Check in was swift and not having our phones with us was actually a bonus!

Belated Christmas treat from the two friends who accompanied my wife and I yesterday. All blown away by the whole experience. Fine dining at its best, impeccable service and plush setting. We had the Sunday roast - one of the best ever. Starters, desserts and mocktails were superb too. Now highly recommending to everybody we know. In particular would like to wish our server, Haych, all our very best for the future. A most attentive, informative and friendly guy. Hope he manages to gain his City & Guilds certificates to pursue a career in hospitality when he is released. Confident he will.

Unique! You are 'treated' like a new In mate by way of leaving all your worldly possessions the door, then thru a body scanner. Once that's all done, you're led thru the courtyard to the 'restaurant'. The food wasn't hot, but luke warm. But on the whole, the dining experience was that of ANY reputable restaurant. It's definitely worth a visit for a lunchtime meal.

This is a prisoners' restaurant, run in prison by Clink charity aiming to prevent reoffending. You can book in advance by email, and on the day of the visit you must show your photo ID and put all your hand luggage in a designated locker. You can't take tissues or even a handkerchief inside, and you can only bring one credit card. (That's why, unfortunately, there are no photos of the food or the inside). Inside, there is an entrance inspection, just like at an airport, and every single time the guide opens and closes the lock, it is strictly enforced. All cutlery set on the tables in the restaurant is made of plastic. We chose a course starter, main course and dessert, and those dishes were all delicious and beautiful. In my opinion, it is one of the best restaurant in London. Amazing experience at the clink. Our waiter was very professional and attended to our table often to bring more water or check we were enjoying our meals. The person checking us in was also great. I recommend coming to the restaurant pretty much empty handed to facilitate the process as everyone’s safety is their priority. Delicious vegan options

Pretty unique experience, the restaurant is in a building on the prison grounds, which means leaving your phone, and other electronic devices in a locker and an airport security type search. It’s well organised and everyone is very nice, food was pretty good, no alcohol for obvious reasons, although they do very good mocktails. Hopefully I get this right - it’s run by a charity and the idea is to train up prisoners near the end of their terms with skills they can use to find employment upon release. Apparently it’s an extremely coveted role for a prisoner to get. A good cause to support and an extremely memorable evening.

Went for the Sunday Lunch. First the Greeters and staff are fab. Our server Banksy was amazing thanks for an enjoyable lunch. The mocktail G&T tasted like the alcohol version. Very impressed. But really feel let down by the food! Ordered a latte and served milky water. Sent it back and then got a proper latte. I had the Sunday roast beef. Tuff tuff meat and luke warm to cold. The Yorkshire pudding cold and dried out. It seems as this plate was sitting in steamer not plated as ordered. My friend's chicken hot but very dry little gravy. The cauliflower cheese room temperature. The starters liver pate and pumpkin soup were lovely. My desserts looked like the Bristol Stool Scale! I had the poached pear with chocolate ice cream, a piece of chocolate cake pear and dropping of chocolate pieces. The cake was like survival cake extremely dry brittle and tasteless. The dropping of chocolate tasted like old dried out , old chocolate. The pear and ice cream were lovely. Would never return we made a 100 pound donation for horrible food. Somehow the CLINK should be done for ripping off folks. Walked out there much hungery and poorer. Total rip off!!! Gave 3 stars for the staff not the food...rubbish 🗑!!! I was ready to escape to another restaurant pub or takeaway where I could get a hot decent meal...soooo very disappointed 😞

Blown away by this place. As someone who works in criminal law and is incredibly passionate about changing attitudes, transforming lives and creating second chances surrounding prisoners, I was really looking forward to visiting the Clink restaurant for a very long time. We decided to book for the autumnal Sunday lunch menu, and WOW. It was one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. I had the goat cheese and walnuts croquettes, the leek and celeriac pie main and the poached pear dessert. My partner had the chicken liver parfait starter, sea bass dessert and apple crumble main. I have never seen my partner finish every little thing on each plate as he did at the Clink! The food was phenomenal!!! The prisoners at the restaurant were all incredibly polite and friendly and happy to chat and interact with us. Our waiter, Banksy especially lovely. We really enjoyed the chats we had with him about how the Clink training is going and his future plans. It was a pleasure to meet him and the other boys who greeted us warmly and were incredibly pleasant throughout. We will remember this experience always. Everyone deserves a second chance. It was great to see the boys put so much care into making sure we were enjoying our meals and had everything we needed. I will definitely be back. Thank you ✨

One of the most amazing and humbling experiences we’ve ever had. Our waiter Barry was attentive, friendly and lovely to speak to. The food was delicious (especially the apple crumble) and it was so nice to be in a restaurant environment that felt so positive and optimistic. Compared to a normal restaurant- it felt so good to know this goes towards the training and bettering of other peoples lives who have been through a tough time. Barry- so excited for you to see your son in 6 weeks. We hope he enjoys the arcades and we really do wish you all the best for the future.

I was very wary when my daughter advised me we were going for lunch as she has been before for evening meal,I was not disappointed,the setting was beautiful you thought you were in a restaurant, the waiters for very polite and couldn't do enough for you to make your day out special,the three course meal was absolutely first class, beautiful, will definitely be back for afternoon tea,next time I'm visiting my daughter in London,you can't tip the waiters but you can by gifts for yourself to remind you of your trip,I got a lovely tea towel and a straw bag with the clink in it, and I will certainly be telling people of this place, well done to the charity for setting this up,as it's all about giving people second chances .

This is one of the best things I’ve done in my life. The food was incredible, service was even better and it is so rewarding to know you are helping out a charity. Our server spoke to us in length about his journey, where he wants to go with his training from the Clink and it was nice to know they’re interested in our lives too. I wish I could pocket up the feeling I had when I walked out the clink and share it with everyone because it is honestly amazing.

A fantastic experience with delicious food and great service. You would never have known they've only been reopen for one week. I would definitely recommend it, especially for the roast beef and homemade ginger beer. We'll definitely be back.

If it was open, excellent food, unfortunately due to Covid and being inside Brixton Prison, which has extra precautions in place, it isn't open.

Porciones sustanciales y bastante delicioso. We were here from the states visiting family. They brought us to the Clink. The atmosphere is wonderful. Our waiter was absolutely amazing. Lenroy was very attentive to our needs. The food was gorgeously presented and delicious. As we left we had a wonderful chat with the staff all very nice. Definitely recommend the Clink as a must place to go of visiting the area.

Just been for lunch with my hubbie. The whole experience from checking in to entering the Prison was very good. Quite scary being locked in making you realise a little of prison life.The food was delicious, duck & soup to start. Pork for mains and deserts and coffee were fantastic.Our server Nevin was very smiley, polite and great. He was passionate of this job.
