Amazing venue and staff the food is absolutely brilliant

The Clink Restaurant in Brixton offers a comfortable and enjoyable stay with excellent service. The rooms are clean, well-maintained, and equipped with all the necessary amenities. I wasn't going to write a review as I really want this place to do well, but having read other reviews going back over years all saying the same thing, I think the restaurant really should have addressed both the temperature of what we ate - it was verging on cold for 2 out of 3 of us - and the size of the plates - we were all still hungry when we walked out. And at £150 for three for a 2 course lunch without any alcohol, I'd expect the restaurant to pay attention to reviews when people start saying the same thing. I'm glad I went, I really do wish them well, but at least as far as our meal went this place is not good value for (quite a lot of) money.

The Clink is such a fantastic experience, highly recommend if you're in the area - or even if you're not. The food is really exceptional, I had fermented potato bread with bone marrow, which rivaled St John for deliciousness, followed by truly fabulous ox cheek (it nearly melted apart on the plate). And we couldn't resist the fried bread and butter pudding with chai custard; it was like the lovechild of a cinnamon doughnut and a panettone. All served in style by our lovely waiter Tim. Aside from the food (which again, I can't recommend enough), the experience is so interesting. As the restaurant is inside the prison you are restricted on what you can take inside, and need to go through security checks. The staff are all really friendly, and it was so wonderful chatting to Tim about the Clink and his plans for the future. Wishing him the best of luck!

A remarkable and heartening experience which I hope gives the staff a bit of the dignity every human deserves, whatever their circumstances. The food was exceptional and the service from the staff warm and professional. I wish them all success in achieving their vocational qualifications at the end of their course, hopefully giving them opportunities when they step back into the outside world

We had Sunday roast in this fine establishment and with nothing but fine staff, so unique and uplifting, I have been wanting to come here for a while now. We found the place really lovely, parking nearby was easy. After the pleasant security aspect and being taken to the restaurant we received a warm and friendly welcome from all of the staff. We are waited upon by some very observant people who just don’t miss anything, that’s to say they are well on top of things in the restaurant which was just perfect. They are very attentive making sure you experience was not a disappointment, it certainly wasn’t. The food is devine and well presented, and it’s so nice to see people in Brixton Prison allowed an opportunity to rehabilitate and interact with others. It was nice being able to chat so freely with the inmates serving us, who all clearly thrive in the restaurant. It’s important and worthy to come and support their cause and give them hope and encouragement. The food reflects time and energy into making our experience worthwhile, and it was thank you. We had a lovely time and we aim to come back.

One of the most interesting dining experiences I have ever had. The extensive searching on the way in sets the tone and being taken through numerous locked gates. But the Roast lunch was really good, albeit the cutlery was plastic for safety reasons but the service was great. There is a specific time you leave so if you finish your meal early you just have to wait to be let out. All in all, worth a visit for the experience and the Roast!

Unbelievable food at unbelievable prices. Such amazing quality (high end restaurant level) at casual dining prices. Dining room is lovely in a very different setting (HMP Brixton), and only on a Thursday. However, one of my best dining experiences. A high recommend

Had a really enjoyable afternoon tea last week. Excellent food and service. Quite a long security check but we'll worth it.

It was a very good experience, we arrived 30 minutes before the booking as recommended, after getting our id check we locked our stuff and went through security (airport style). The restaurant itself is cosy with good music, the service is excellent (Thanks Mo! ) we started with a selection of delicious fresh baked bread and some refreshing blood orange mojitos (no alcohol is served). For starters a delicate Beetroot cured sea trout and some Duck rillettes very good. Mains we tried Roast sirloin of beef and the Pan roasted hake with white beans it was very tasty. Desert Caramelised white chocolate semi-freddo, poached pear caramel, yoghurt tuille we loved that one. I definitely recommend having the experience, you will have a nice meal disconnected from your phone and support prisoners to get training and experiences that will help them in their life.

One aspect that surprised me was how many guests seemed unaware of the prison's guidelines. It's crucial to read the restrictions, as certain items are not allowed on the premises it will be emailed to you once your submission has been accepted. Additionally, be sure to arrive 30 minutes before your booking time, as this is necessary for the search and security protocols. The highlight of our visit was the impeccable service from Mohamed. His professionalism and attentiveness made us feel welcome and well taken care of throughout our meal. He was knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations on the Christmas specials that truly enhanced our dining experience. Now, about the food! The Christmas menu featured a delightful selection of seasonal dishes, all beautifully presented and full of flavor. It was clear that the kitchen team takes great pride in their work, and we appreciated the chance to enjoy such a festive meal in this extraordinary setting. Overall, our visit to the Clink Restaurant was not only a unique dining experience but also an opportunity to support an initiative that provides training and rehabilitation for inmates. We left feeling satisfied by both the excellent food and the meaningful impact of our visit. I highly recommend dining at the Clink Restaurant, especially during the holiday season. What a unique experience! The food was delicious and the atmosphere is unlike anything you'll see elsewhere. While the servers were polite and thoughtful in general, overall service was a little bit slow and the meal pacing was not ideal with a big gap (20-30 min) between our starters and mains. There was a big group in the back though we ordered ahead of them. A couple other small tables that arrived after us somehow finished first, which was odd. Not a place to go without 2-3 hours to kill, but worth the experience if you do have the time.

Went for Afternoon tea. Food was amazing waiters were very good. Clink staff however were quite rude to us and the waiters. Not a good look and put an unfortunate sour note on the day.

A great evening, the food could have been a little warmer

Super interesting dinner. The food was great, the flavours were amazing and the presentation was on point. The service was where it was interesting, as we were served by inmates, they had a knack for good banter and were genuinely happy to serve us/explain the dishes. A lot of security clearances, so be prepared to come light, as they will tell you to lock away your stuff in their secure area before they take you in.

Everything was professional. Food was great. Definitely think it's a good thing that's being done for rehabilitation. Well visit again.

Such a great experience and the food is excellent! Second visit that I've had at the Clink and it was just as good as the first time. I've not stopped recommending this to everyone, it is a brilliant charity and the service was warm and friendly and were very happy to answer my curious questions.

An amazing experience. Food was amazing and Adan, Gary and Dean were also amazing. So helpful and attentive and really made our experience worthwhile. They were so funny, but also so polite, they made our day.

Enjoyed a gorgeous 4 course gourmet dinner with 2 friends. Lots of choice for fish lovers, meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans. Tried several dishes that I've never seen before and loved all of them, very innovative menu. I really hope all of the staff get good hospitality jobs when they finish their qualifications, they've worked hard and the quality of their food deserves to be recognised. I will definitely be back soon - well worth the trip

A big fan. From the start the prison staff were engaging and incredibly polite. The prisoners/staff at the restaurant were also just fabulous. You never ever have waiters that attentive to you at a normal restaurant. The service was flawless and food brilliant. Best afternoon tea I have ever had. You slightly forget you’re in a prison and reminded but a few quirky things every so often. It was awesome to chat to the inmates who genuinely seemed to appreciate The Clink and what the charity does for them. An incredibly worthwhile cause and a memorable, special day out.

Fantastic gourmet evening! First time visiting as we loved the concept, however the food was out of this world. 10/10. The staff are all so friendly and our waiter Biggsy was incredibly helpful, professional and friendly!

A special meal for my birthday and it was fantastic, Tim our waiter was just brilliant. Was filling our water glasses before we even noticed, recommended drinks based on our likes. He was superb with my partner who had multiple allergies to egg milk and nuts. When a course accidentally came out with a sauce which he thought could have milk it in, he quickly made a replacement himself so we could eat together. He sadly had to go quickly at the end, so didn’t have time to thank him properly for how brilliant he was. He was credit to the Clink and HMP Brixton. Will come back for afternoon tea and hope that lovely Tim or his colleagues are working. And hope that I’m served by Tim again in the future!

I found it strange being served y prisoners and using plastic cutlery, the thing that upset me the most was the prisoners treated like slaves

This was a great experience. I gave it 4 stars on atmosphere because they could have explained more about the art and that the decor was made by prissonors as well.

The restaurant is served solely by current prisoners, inside the prison – the idea behind it is to drive prisoner rehabilitation through education and activity, allowing prisoners to develop new skills in an exciting, vibrant environment.

What a fabulous experience! This culinary experience is a program for those chosen from the Brixton prison to participate in growing, cooking, and serving food to paying customers in order to provide a skill to utilize after their sentence is over. Reservations need to be 7 days in advance and require several security questions and a £15pp deposit. Several dining options are available. Lunch, afternoon tea, and Thursday night gourmet 3-course dinner, we chose the last option. You need to put belongings into a locker as no phones or personal items except for a credit card to pay are allowed. The photos included, except the one of me in my prison issued boots, were pulled off the internet. I made the mistake of wearing open toe sandals, which were not permitted, so I was issued standard prison issued boots to wear. You will go through a metal detector and pat down to enter. Once inside, it looks like any other restaurant. The food was very good. The appetizer was a king crab on a crumpets. The main dish was a paparadrlle of pork and mushrooms in brown gravy. Dessert was an English strawberry tart. Coffee and soft drinks are available at an additional cost. The cost per person was £47, but your £15 deposit is subtracted. Brixton is a men's prison, so all the culinary students are men. They were kind, funny, and happy to chat and seemed like servers from any restaurant. This was a great experience, and they have a few items for sale that help the clink charity. I bought the cook books and a bag. Pictures are included.

Outstanding! The food is some of the best I’ve tasted. My daughter agrees. The customer service was amazing. It’s wonderful to see what good can come from providing the students with expert tuition and the results speak for themselves. I would highly recommend and will certainly be going again

You wouldn't think you were in a prison. The food was top tier 👌 I felt as if I was dining in a 5 star restaurant. Everyone was so friendly and polite and the food was outstanding. What made the experience even better is that it was all for a good cause. These Learners once out will have valuable qualifications and I would continue to support them. You cannot take pictures as they have to take your phone off you but please do go!

Went for the Thursday evening dinner this week and was so impressed! I’d heard great things but our visit confirmed this. The food was amazing but our waiter Tim made the evening. His service was the perfect blend of professional, reassuring and entertaining. He cracked us up all evening but was also able to advise and answer any questions we had about the menu. Exactly what you want when eating out. He was fab! Even if you don’t get the pleasure of being served by Tim, I’d highly recommend getting yourself booked in :)

We visited the Clink on Tuesday. The food, including presentation, was first class. You can see that a lot of effort goes into preparation. Service was great too, very attentive. It was great to see how the students worked well together to ensure that everything was running smoothly. Really great initiative.

Great experience! Once you pass all the security checks , it is a lovely restaurant. We really enjoyed our meal ( great presentation, huge roast ) and our assigned waiter was super friendly and professional.

Great experience, it's fairly pricey, but the food is good quality. Waiters were really friendly and were up for a chat. We went for lunch which is à la carte, keen to try the Sunday roast set menu at some point!

Great food really good service! Unique setting.

The food was excellent and the service outstanding. Clearly very well trained. Alongside a couple of drinks it came to around £75 a head. Entered after a security check and after an explanation as to what could enter the prison. There were lockers for all other possessions. ID is kept in return for the visitor lanyard. Toilets are available in the restaurant. Our Thursday night meal ended around 8.30 and we were escorted out the prison. The actual restaurant is fairly humdrum but some good art on the walls. Music playing throughout which kept neighbour’s conversations out of earshot. I’d highly recommend the sour apple mocktail drink. So good. It was a bit pricey but a very different experience and the food was a great standard.

Great experience and excellent way to support the charity

We did the Thursday night gourmet dinner and the whole experience was excellent. The food was incredible, well plated and more importantly, absolutely delicious.. there were no leftovers in sight, including our table! The service was great, our waiter Tim was attentive and professional but also very friendly and easy to chat with. Even to the point of gently making sure I knew what I was ordering with Hen of the woods, which he repeated back as ‘the mushrooms..’ a kind way of confirming the customer knows they are ordering mushrooms not chicken without making anyone feel silly! The mocktails are good, and there are a couple of alcohol free beers available too. It is definitely weird not having a phone but it was also pretty nice being truly engaged in the experience. They also do a Sunday lunch which would be worth a try. A great initiative, superbly executed. Cannot recommend this enough

Love it..food absolutely delicious

We went on Thursday evening for the gourmet dinner option and it didn't disappoint. The food was amazing. All the waiters were very attentive and friendly. Had a nice chat with our waiter too. It was such a unique experience, I'd definitely go again to try the Sunday lunch. Not a phone in sight...very liberating!

The food was amazing and such a good idea. As a dining experience it was great. The restaurant is dry for obvious reasons but they serve lovely alcohol free cocktails, beers and gins. It takes a while to check in and you need to provide your details to them days in advance and turn up with I.D. you can take nothing in with you other than a card to pay. Lockers are provided. Don't let this put you off. Support this worthy venture.

Overdue review. I visited a few months ago. We had a lovely afternoon. We really enjoyed our meal and the experience. The waiter's tried their best to be professional which was amusing at times. I'll call it "road man with manners" service. I'd definitely recommend visiting. My only criticism was the cheap, flimsy, plastic, cutlery. Obviously given to us for safety reasons, however we were also given glasses to drink from! A bit of a contradiction! There's much better quality plastic cutlery out there and for the cost of the meal, better quality knives and forks would have been appreciated.

Came here for a meal for my birthday as a surprise. It was delicious the food from starter’s to dessert’s and everything in between was amazing it all tasted fantastic presentation was as good if not better than some other restaurants I have been in despite no alcohol the homemade ginger beer was lovely as was the spice 92 I had they have a really good selection of drinks on the menu also have to say the best flat white coffee I have had it tasted like coffee not warm milk. And the guys who wait on you are a lot better mannered than some waiters I have come across. They do a fantastic job. And if you go like we did in December and have their Christmas menu the mince pies are delicious. I would highly recommend and we will definitely go back. So if you can book a table it’s really worth a visit. Not allowed to take pictures which is understandable.

We ate here last year and I am overdue rating it. Really excellent luncheon. Our server James was very attentive and the program is interesting. It seems everyone gets a chance in the kitchen, at the bar making the delicious mocktails (we each enjoyed two) and serving the guests. If you live in London it is a must do experience. We were visiting from Canada, so for a tourist it is an excellent reason to get off the beaten tourist paths, support a worthy cause, and then we spent the afternoon in Brixton. We got a tea towel souvenir too!

I was here with my partner and it was her birthday dinner. She was curious about this and so we decided to try. The whole experience was very good. The food was delicious, we had 3 courses, the staff were friendly and very professional. The restaurant itself is decorated nicely, and although you never forget you are inside a prison, it's never gimmicky or voyeuristic. It was wonderful to have a really well-made and well-served meal, and that this contributes to giving inmates a chance at obtaining a hospitality qualification makes it even better. I will definitely recommend it to others and, if they let me, I will be back!

Brilliant concept. We used a virgins couple voucher and never having heard of Clink Restaurants we decided to give it a go and so glad we did, the food was excellent and way beyond our expectations. The security before we entered was easy, and added to the experience. The restaurant was well laid out and looked welcoming and cheerful. All the waiting staff were attentive and appeared to enjoy the role, answering all our questions. The chefs produced some of the best food we have had and all presented to a professional standard and we wish them well if they choose to enter the trade. The menu was varied and something for everyone. We would certainly recommend the restaurant and will hopefully come back. Good luck to all involved

Unfortunately we were 10 mins late due to roadworks and were denied entry. Very unfriendly, intransigent and unwelcoming, . Won't make the effort to go back. Wouldn't recommend for anyone else.

We had a lovely lunch at the clink, our wait staff were friendly, and our host was informative. The food was really delicious and I would happily go back. I'd love to try out some of their baked goods like the bread too, remember to pre-order this!

Yesterday I took a group of 15 members of our U3A for lunch They all were totally surprised at the quality of the food and presentation. All the staff did an excellent job and were very polite and helpful. The professional staff did a very good job of overseeing and and were very supportive This must be one of most unusual venues in London and well worth a visit

Very good food, I had the venison steak which was perfectly cooked. Difficult to give it a score for atmosphere as its inside a prison! But good service and felt like a restaurant apart from the bars on the windows and security!

A fabulous concept and really great cooking/ food. We thought the food would be basic but the menu was fabulous. Lots of choices, a well thought out menu, and the staff try their best. Great to spend and afternoon interacting with the staff in training there, a rare opportunity for us and for them to normalise hospitality/interactions and support their skills training.

A great, innovative idea! The set menu was lovely, with lots of different choices and great food. The duck breast was absolutely incredible! Had a lovely server named John who spoke about the programme and explained it all to us.

I had a virgin experience days voucher to use so me and my boyfriend went for lunch today and it was an excellent experience! We found the security checks easy enough and just added to the overall experience. When we entered the restaurant, the workers were extremely friendly and attentive - we had John as our server and he was really lovely. Throughout our time here we had a lovely chat with him to find out about his prison experience and he said he had 8 weeks left and seemed excited. The food was amazing - between us we had soup & pate for starter, duck & pork tenderloin for main & 2x chocolate desserts and it was all of really high standard! One of the best meals in London we’ve had. Overall the experience was excellent and we would definitely go back - was nice not having our phones on us and only having mocktails! Wishing John and the other servers all the best, you can see how much this job and training meant for them all.

Went for the Thursday Gourmet night. What a wonderfully positive experience, and genuinely really delicious food, beautifully presented! One of the waiters who served us had been working on the programme and was being released in 3 weeks. Another was working his first night - he had a great sense of humour and mentioned that he'd never had a job before (d**g dealer). It sounds like this is a popular programme for inmates, with a waiting list for those wanting to join. Spoke with their teacher before leaving who explained that they continue to support the men when they transition back to life outside the prison gates and (hopefully) into employment. So this is the start of a hopeful journey for many of them. It was a privilege to be a part of this. And seriously good food! Well done to the amazing team who make this possible and to the men - keep up the good work. Remember to arrive 30 minutes early to clear security, to wear suitable clothing (as per the email) and that you will need to put all your belongings (except a credit card and a good old fashioned watch) into the small lockers. No alcohol, but a good mocktails menu and home made ginger beer and lemonade as alternative options. Over 18s only.

Incredible and unique experience. The concept behind this restaurant is laudable. The servers were very friendly. The food was very good, better than plenty of other regular restaurants I've been to. Great to see they have vegan options. The dessert was a bit too sweet for me. Highly recommend a visit. As a warning, no phones, cash, keys, jewellery, or cards are allowed inside. These must all be left in the locker. You can only bring 1 card in which you will use to pay for the meal.

Truly an extraordinary gourmet dining experience in London! The food was outstanding and, without a doubt, one of the best meals I have had in my life. Compliments to the chefs in the kitchen 👏 The serving staff did a terrific job and it was lovely having a little chat with each staff member in between courses. Overall, a fantastic evening and I have already booked a table to come back for a Sunday Roast next month. Highly recommend!

We had an exceptional Sunday lunch here today. The food was fantastic - particularly the heritage tomato tart with burrata I had as a starter. This was hands down one of the best things I have ever eaten! The service was great. Our server Ted was fantastic and gave excellent recommendations and made the experience a real 10/10 for us. An all round fantastic experience- we knew we'd be doing something quite unique (and the security process is no joke) but we had a really genuine, warm experience with inmates who were keen to learn, to chat, to show off their skills, and to give us an absolutely amazing dinner.

A amazing and unique culinary experience! First class food, you'll spend no more than £50 (including drinks) and all for a great cause. The service was as you would expect from any top restaurant. The waiters were so attentive and always made sure you were ok. I'd recommend arriving with ID and a bank card as lockers in the storage space goes quick.

My wife and I dined at the Clink HMP Brixton for Sunday lunch. The food, all 3 courses, were exceptional. The service from the staff was great. Exceptional value, supporting a great charity to rehabilitate serving prisoners.

Had a wonderful 3 course meal with great service from the staff. It wasn't my first time visiting The Clink. However it was my first time dining there. The previous visit was an event held there around rehabilitation which included a tour and overview of the training provided and employability options upon release for the inmates. The lunch menu was varied with some options across each course. The bread is also baked onsite, also some other fittings and fixtures that are produced by inmates. Including some fantastic art work. The overall experience is fine dining, creative menu with aesthetically pleasing presentation. Highly recommend visiting...please note there's no alcohol available as it's inside the perimeter of HMP Brixton. Therefore you must go through security, no phones, technology or contraband is allowed. Essentially just a card for payment.

A unique culinary experience! First class food, fairly priced and a great cause. The service was as you would expect from any top restaurant. Our young waiter Kevin was very efficient and friendly with a relaxed manner. Best wishes to him for his future.

Wonderful menu; atmosphere and service far better than most restaurants in London. Check in was swift and not having our phones with us was actually a bonus!

Belated Christmas treat from the two friends who accompanied my wife and I yesterday. All blown away by the whole experience. Fine dining at its best, impeccable service and plush setting. We had the Sunday roast - one of the best ever. Starters, desserts and mocktails were superb too. Now highly recommending to everybody we know. In particular would like to wish our server, Haych, all our very best for the future. A most attentive, informative and friendly guy. Hope he manages to gain his City & Guilds certificates to pursue a career in hospitality when he is released. Confident he will.
