The Clarendon in Leicester

No food available on Monday or Tuesday so couldn't rate the food but the pub is friendly, welcoming and nicely decorated. Good service too.

Not exactly the cosiest pup but I am so glad to have it so near by. Their food (at least the fish&chips and the banger&mash that I have tried so far) are quite good. There are better ones but pretty good to be honest. The service is ok and I am really looking to try their pies

There are plenty of draft beers available, all priced around £5/glass. There is a big football broadcast, the seats are very comfortable, and there is a large space next to it. It is quite quiet on a Sunday night.

Come here regularly but the rudeness of the bar manager will make me think again

Very rude and very poor customer service. Visited on Sunday 18 August from 4pm. Two of the rudest, most unprofessional bar staff my friends and I have come across. Ordering rounds, and the staff repeatedly/rudely/impatiently asking, ‘anything else/is that it/tell me if there are more drinks’, (bearing in mind I had just ordered 15 shots of the same drink). My friends and I spend good money in this place. After explaining to the staff that I was asking others around me what they would like to drink, I was told by the very rude man ‘I remember my first time at the pub’ - this was the bar manager (not Ollie) (probably has never bought a drink for anyone). If Clarendon staff are looking to drive away, loyal and regular customers, they’re going the right way about it. Just to clarify, my friends and I buy rounds of £50+ each and every time. I would understand if the bar was super busy, but this was not the case, the two bar staff (apparently a manager and lad with buzzcut) were very rude and highly unprofessional. Very disappointing and in need of customer service training. This happened more than twice with others expressing their dissatisfaction on the same night. Do better guys. Do better. Your attitude stinks.

The Clarendon’s ‘Yorkshire pudding wrapped roast dinner’ popped up on my Facebook feed via ‘Cool As Leicester’, I linked my sisters on the post and we decided to go. I didn’t realise this was a sports bar; should have when I made the reservation and the chap I spoke to had to check football wasn’t on as he couldn’t take a booking else…luckily for us it wasn’t. When we arrived one sister panicked (or had a strop rather) about the sport on tv but there was no sound and some good music was playing so yay. Three of us ordered the rump steak wrap and one the chicken. Our server was called Charlie and he was a credit to the establishment; charming, attentive, informative but not in your face. Charlie was an excellent server, one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Hats off to the kitchen team too, we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, quite delicious, the drinks were also served in decent glassware which we sisters appreciated. I enjoyed the visit so much I’m going to take my husband and teen boys at some point. The one thing I wasn’t sure about was the parking, I didn’t know where to park.

Went to watch a Euro 2024 match. It was on but with no sound. There was music played from the loudspeakers. I went to a bartender to ask about the sound of the game. He said it would be on in about 10 minutes. It wasn't. There was no sound throughout the whole match. Why lie like this? What was in it for you?

Friendly staff, good atmosphere and great beer

Ignorant bar staff, looking at his phone, asked a young man what he wants as he was approaching the bar, when I was already at the bar. Possibly his friend, but that is the perfect way to lose customers. If it wasn’t for Brixton being on draught, I would’ve left and given the lowest score possible. Thanks

Writing this in the car on the way home our experience was that good! Brilliant service from start to finish - big thanks to Joe for his menu recommendations and for tending to us! Another thanks to chef Ollie for some of the best food we’ve had in a while - the BEST halloumi fries and truffle cauliflower cheese! Thanks guys, will definitely be returning soon!

One of the pubs that has survived in Leicester just outside the city centre. Re-vamped a while ago, it now focuses on food and big-screen sport. Having eaten here a few times, most recently, as pictured, is the Sunday dinner wrapped in Yorkshire pudding..... A wrap need to do one thing- hold together. This does. Remarkably well. Needs to as well....it comes with a bowl of gravy.... Thick gravy.... Tasty gravy... Gravy you can drink....which I did after dipping this substantial wrap to its conclusion.... This is one if the best things to eat in Leicester in my opinion....amazing. Service was top This is a busy pub and it is proper pub.... Sky sports and footy on. Highly recommend 👌 thanks.

Great place to go grab a drink and have a bite. Lovely atmosphere. They have a nice dining area as well as a bar chill to catch up with friends or to watch some sport. The bar staff are friendly and there are plenty of beers on tap

Went out for some food on a Friday evening..... unfortunately the batter on the fish was soggy and fish was undercooked. The manager not only replaced the meal but gave us a full refund. Thank you so much 😀😀 that was very kind!....my wife had some of the tapas style dishes which were delicious. Staff and service always very good and nice to see some new items on the menu!

Watched the barman with grey hair, wearing an elbow pad with an extremely miserable face, pour my Guinness in one pour.. as he tried to hand me my headless drink, i asked “are you not going to let that rest” as I thought any bar staff worth their weight knows how to pour a Guinness. His response was.. “Do you want me to fetch it from Ireland as well.. I’ve been pouring them like that all day” (which makes no sense) Safe to say we grabbed our things and left. at £7+ I expect you to atleast pretend to know what your doing.. what a shame.

We went during lunch hours and ordered the chicken sizzler and steak sandwich. The chicken sizzler was okay, it looked good on a sizzling plate when it came out but it was lacking flavour. The steak sandwich was super disappointing as the steak was like chewing on rubber… the cheese they used was extremely strong and it was all you could taste, it would’ve been good if you was a smelly cheese lover but this was too intense. Therefore I would recommend the chicken sizzler for someone who’s never tried a proper Indian mixed grill, otherwise you would be super disappointed in comparison. I would stay clear of the steak sandwich..

Great pub with a number of large tvs so you can sit and watch the sport whilst enjoying a drink. There’s a quieter restaurant style seating area on the other side of the bar. Great selection of beers and friendly staff

Came in to watch the football and was served by Amelie who kept us topped up with drinks and recommended the nachos which were unreal definitely coming back

Haven't been to the Claremdon for over 25 years, it's changed and how fabulous it us now. The decor lovely, outside space very nice and as for the food and staff both brill. Had a late lunch which was filling and tasty. Thumbs up guys loved it 👍

Really nice pub with good feel. Nice beer yarden and although busy and good atmosphere there was still plenty of room about for us to walk in, grab a table and get some food. Just some share dishes and chips but came quickly and v tasty. Good service at bar and at table. Nice one!

Most recently visited to watch England's final group game for the 2022 Quatar World Cup. Different staff from years ago but still offering a decent selection of drinks options in a very cosy, traditional English pub atmosphere. Some friends ordered food. Some of us found it all delicious but some complained of the salad being too salty (might have been brine from the olives). Regardless of such opinions, this remains a great local pub that is well worth a visit if you're in the area an fancy a drink or some grub.

A better than average pub that is the hidden secret of Clarendon Park. Go here instead of the expensive joints on Queens Road. Unlike the neighborhood's other watering holes, they've extensive outdoor seating, plenty of tables, and many popular English ales

Love this pub, nice bar staff, nice atmosphere and nice people in there.

Came for a meal for my sons birthday service was good food was good, my only criticism is the bar staff throwing empty bottles into the waste bin making an almighty smashing noise, found it very annoying, cannot they be bothered to gently drop or place the bottles into the bin,. thre were 4 ladies sat behind us complaining about it as well.

I have not had food there recently, so cannot review that (although I saw it coming out and it looked great!). The remodel has transformed the pub. It's now a casual, clean pub with good decor. The outdoor space is just okay, but they have limited space to expand due to its location.

Food ok, but more than 40min wait (unannounced) for basic burgers, when not at all full, rules it out as a lunch venue again. Modernisation in last couple of years has taken away traditional pub atmosphere.

Nice little pub. We also ordered some snacks, nachos, chilli chips and squid. All were really nice and good portions.

Polite & courteous staff on entry. Shown to table I picked and promptly brought over drinks on demand....table scan service however did not work on my mobile but served well considering it wasn't too busy. Think they need to address the scanning codes as they were peeling off. Denied light lunch as I tried to order bang on 1500 from this menu, I mean it wasn't overrun but I was sitting for some time. Clean and accessible, little dark but class on a Saturday afternoon!

Switched off the football 5 minutes before full time without warning!!! I get that you have to close by 10 but it was 9.45 you could have waited and if you're not sure it will end in time then just don't show the game in the first place!

Really good pub. The food is really nice. Asked the new head chef to make us something off menu which he did and it was great!

Being told what to do and where to go

Tried to order beers via the code on the table to save close interaction and risking unnecessary exposure to covid 19... it didn't work (probably because of me/my phone) and a young man with a short beard said we could do contactless if we needed but to try again with the app... OK... But he then completely invaded our space without asking and picked up our phones trying to get the app to work. Really unsafe, completely thoughtless and too dangerous for us. Why not be safe and use contactless? Or tell us to try again. What ever, but this was so unprofessional rude and dangerous. If we can't have a beer that's OK, but you have potentially jeopardised our health and that really is not ok. Let's be clear - at this point of time, this is very dangerous and the owners need to step in quickly to rectify this. Your staff are not using common sense. This is normally a great pub, the beer is great and it used to have the best staff around. What a shame that this person (the manager?) has ruined it. Please train your staff to act appropriately and teach them to practice social distancing.

Great staff, yummy food, can't go far wrong!

I’m not going to mark this pub down because they are trying to do things right in very hard times, but they show zero common sense in my opinion. 4 of us walk in, no drinks until we have downloaded an app, to me that’s unacceptable. We had been in a pub 5 minutes before the manager came to the table and said, use the app, and we can sort your drinks. No common sense shown with drinks being brought over, after 15 / 20 minutes, very steadfastly cocky manager who’s opinion was that the process was to be via the app. We bought a couple of rounds of drinks and then ordered a taxi through them and then left, and when I exited, the manager asked me to walk back through into the pub and leave via the exit he preferred. No, sorry, I’m already outside so no I won’t leave the pub, go back inside and leave the pub again through the correct exit. Manager, I have given you a 5 rating, which really is wrong, but please, use some common sense. None shown currently,
