The Churchill Arms, West Lavington in Wiltshire

Had a lovely meal last Saturday, great food, great value and absolutely beautiful, friendly staff

Waiter was so helpful , plenty gluten feee options . 100% recommended

We always have a lovely experience at Churchills brasserie and have been dining there a few years now . The service was excellent along with the food . We had the three course set menu and three of us found the food good value and tasty .

If travelling by car parking is a consideration when visiting York.Parking is expensive just out of town and some restaurants and venue charge fairly expensive parking rates.Churchill charge £18 for residents and if just dining you have to find parking elsewhere

We wanted Lunch to break the journey so stopped at the Churchill Arms. The lack of cars in the Carpark should have been a warning ! Entering the bar I asked for a table to hear the man behind the bar ( manager?) say within our hearing ' oh sit them by the window it's not raining ' with no conversation or words of welcome addressed directly to us - we felt ignored ! We were then asked immediately what we wanted to drink and then given a menu. Seeing how limited the menu was -choice of just two roasts and nothing else we decided to leave and cancel our drinks . The man behind the bar then just said ' we've poured your drinks ,- you'll have to pay for ' em now! The rudest and most unwelcoming staff we've ever met. We will not be back !

First visit for a long time, we went with friends for mother's Day lunch. The food was excellent and plenty of it. Really enjoyable experience 😃

Arrived as a group of 9 for lunch, we were asked if we had pre-booked which we hadn't as we were not aware we had to and it was certainly not clear on the pub's website. The Landlord was very rude and unwelcoming and like he didn't want customers! The pub wasn't even busy (explains why!). We were told the only food available was jacket potatoes and Ciabatta which was very average at best! Horrible, unwelcoming atmosphere. Such a shame as the pub itself was nice inside and had a large carpark.

Stopped in on our way to Devizes... what a great pub! Lovely landlord, really friendly. Food was great, beer was great. Everything very clean and tidy, and very dog friendly. Perfect stop!

A very good meal with choices of a la carte or table d'hote to suit your budget and appetite. Have eaten here each time we holiday in York and would certainly recommend for a special occasion. My only gripe is why does Open Table ask if it is a special occasion, which it was, my birthday, yet not a single comment of "Happy Birthday" from the Churchill. Please note I was not expecting any "freebie" just an acknowledgement.

Wow!! Exceeded all expectations! The 2 waiters/waitress were amazing, attentive and knowledgeable but not “stuffy”. The food was delicious and so much choice. The room is beautiful and the tables are spread out so whilst cosy is also intimate.

Lunch time visit, good food and drinks, reasonably priced.

Rhys was an exceptional server. He met our every need. The Food was exceptional. The moules fries was excellent even better than anything I've had in France. The creme brulé was again heavenly. We had an issue with our bill but on contacting hotel later that night Lindsey was so helpful and professional. We returned the next day and got our money refunded and spent the afternoon being waited on by Rhys again and enjoyed an amazing cheese sharer platter. This hotel certainly goes out of its way to ensure their guests get a 5 star experience.

Im not easily pleased when it comes to pub Sunday Roasts, but the Churchill Arms provided the best we have had in years. The roast potatoes were fantastic as was the choice of veg and Yorkshire pudding. The plates overflowed with excellence. Would highly recommend.

Visited for Fathers Day Sunday roast & was made so welcome stayed for the afternoon. This is the English pub experience at it's very finest. Landlord & Landlady with a fine staff made it seem like Savoy service in Olde Wiltshire. Bring your American friends, this will truely blow them away. Thankyou for a magical time.

Had an hour a lunchtime, only had a pint, the staff were so friendly drank in the garden with it's gorgeous views.

Called in for a pint when passing friendly staff nice country pub good prices would visit again

Lovely food, great staff always consistent we often stay and eat here

Stopped in for a pint on the way home, went in at 1640, states online that pub is open till 6pm geezer behind the bar stated they were closing in 5 minutes, despite there being 40 minutes of a football match left on the scene, and the pub was full of punters, as I arrived three bikers walked in after me, they have not been turned away. They had no good reason to turn me away, maybe it was the colour of my skin that stopped them from serving me As I am writing this message, the bikers are enjoying there drink. It’s a shame to still be treated like this in 2024

It was our first visit to the Churchill and we were early for our sit down, we were shown to a very small bar area which was full tho quiet. Our server was lovely and attentive, in fact all the staff were nice. We went with a set menu and it didn’t disappoint. A lovely restaurant in a lovely old building.

Meal was nice. Steak really Tasty. Waiter forgot our wine. But overall, a nice meal.

It was the second time in the restaurant and we enjoyed the experience. The service was excellent and the staff were very efficient and friendly.

Love the Churchill Hotel. Food, steak, tonight was awful. Waiter tried his best and replaced steak but came back equally bad. Shame as it spoilt the night.

First time visiting this pub for a Sunday roast and was left satisfied and full. The service is friendly and professional and would recommend it for a Sunday roast. Only one down side, some bad language being used by a few when we were there with our young children.

Excellent overall, unfortunately we had a lady next to us using FaceTime on her phone which was rather loud but she was dining on her own so we understood, apart from that everything was spot on.

Enjoyed our meals of the table dhote menu particularly pork belly and dessert. The minute steak was disappointing just felt it cheapened the experience and should be swapped out for a bigger steak.

Make sure the front desk doesn’t tell you that you can’t have breakfast unless you’re staying at The Churchill. If you can make the reservation, the restaurant host will greet you, and you’ll enjoy your meal!

We were given a dress code to abide by so were surprised to see a female diner in baseball cap, hoodie and jogging bottoms, a male diner in blue jeans, and another male diner wearing shorts. We obviously needn't have made an effort. That said, the dining room was very nice, the food was good and the service was excellent.

Food was outstanding, big portions ,staff very helpful . Will be going back again.

Lovely food, glad we chose hotel to eat at. Very relaxed and great deal with two or three courses. Wine was great too!

Overall really enjoyed our evening out. Unfortunately it was marred by there being no parking anywhere near the hotel, after driving around for 20 minutes parked in the road down the side just so we could ask the hotel what to do. The carpark is for residents only but said she thought that as it was 7.30 we should be okay where we had left the car …./ came out at 10pm to have been issued with a £70 parking fine. Not the restaurants fault but bear in mind when you visit.

Sour dough was like concrete,i have no teeth so could not manage it,gave to my partner who had soup,even that was no good,service was superb.

Very professional and food excellent. It was my birthday, which had been mentioned on booking, not expecting a "treat" (and none offered) but I must say it was nice that the visit for my birthday was recognised by our lovely server.

Found this gem of a pub while on the Imber bus day and enjoyed a fab lunchtime. Some very decent ales along with great food, we had the steak and ale pie, cottage pie and ham, eggs and chips, all homemade and were absolutely brilliant. Staff were friendly and despite being busy the service was excellent. See you next year hopefully!

We were recommended the Churchill by our guest house. We were greeted by Reece who had actually taken our booking that evening. He promptly helped us with our drinks and explained the menu. The ambience of the restaurant was beautiful and relaxing and we chose where we wanted to be seated which was beneath Churchill's painting. Soon after we were asked by Reece if we were ready to place our order. When the food arrived it was generous portions and certainly had the wow factor. We will definitely return on our next visit to York. We will recommend the Churchill Hotel Restaurant to everybody.. Hopefully they'll get the pleasure of Reese serving them.

Went for the first time here for lunch last Sunday. Service was welcoming,quick and attentive ,and both the Roast Beef and the Vegetarian Nut-loaf were delicious and well presented with ample portions. Would absolutely recommend and will certainly visit again.

We booked a table for ten people with only one days notice. when we arrived we were greeted and had five star service all evening.. everything was perfect and we are booking again soon. The meals and dessert were brilliant. highly recommended.

Great place, I've been driving past this pub for the last 30years never went in, this time I did for a bite to eat as I was passing through, not much on the menu, but hopefully that will change in the near future, great food, friendly staff, (just don't loiter around the toilets) LOL. Will visit again...

Driving by and looking for a p[lace for lunch. Food was great as was the staff. This was only dropped one star because I had to pay for the meal when I ordered. This is not something I expect when out for a meal, as this means I will not then order a dessert or further drinks at all.

I would recommend eating here. The food was delicious and I was disappointed to be too full to try one of the amazing sounding puddings. Very friendly staff, great service and atmosphere.

A little gem in the middle of Wiltshire. The menu isn't large but it is well represented and definitely value for money. Plus they sell a very well kept 6X! Mein hosts are especially friendly. I whole heartedly recommend a visit!

A perfect evening in the restaurant. The waiter was wonderful and knew all of the history of the building which delighted my dad who has dementia.

Enjoyed this slightly different hotel very much. Breakfast good, drinks in garden really nice, overall deco most interesting.

We booked a table for 14 people on a Sunday and it was amazing! Huge plates of food which tasted fantastic and the service was 10/10. Definitely the best pub in the area for Sunday lunch!

Pre booked a group of us. Staff were very good and the meal was excellent with decent portions and very good quality. If you're near West Lavington, it's definitely worth a visit. Will go again next time we are down that way.
