A lovely warm welcome. Friendly folks behind the bar, and really lovely burgers. Highly recommend this pub, an old beautiful building, with a garden and great bar. Rock and roll bingo and live music if you pop up on the right nights! Fab local pub.

Great pub at the heart of the Purton community. Great staff and great atmosphere. Had the best loosing party ever after England lost the Euros!

Attending this venue for a funeral wake and was shocked by the poor service and the attitude of the staff. Teas and coffees were requested, the response was, "I dont think I can do a tea, we weren't providing teas/coffees and I don't think we have any milk." Some milk was "found" and it was gone off!! A family member went to the local shop to buy some milk so their family and friends were able to have a cup of tea. Absolutely disgusting and no understanding for the family who'd have just said goodbye to someone special.

Went with friends for a meal, lovely traditional pub, food was lovely. Had a burger and glad to say not too big, which was a bonus as I don't like them too big, service was good as well.

JUST CELEBRATED OUR SON’S 50th BIRTHDAY, WITH A BUFFET FOR 30 FAMILY AND FRIENDS. DAN & TRACY WHO RUN THE ANGEL MADE SURE THAT THE EVENT WENT AHEAD WITHOUT A HITCH. TRUCKELICIOUS WHO DID THE CATERING DID A LOVELY BUFFET AND EVERYONE HAD A GREAT TIME.

My problem is, I'm tired of arriving here and finding it closed when I'd expect it to be open. Therefore, today, I checked their web site before setting off and it says, Friday opening times, 12 noon - late. See the screenshot! Given that I fancied a country walk out to a country pub for a couple of pints and a snack before walking back, I walked the approx three miles out to the pub and found.... locked doors at 15:30. They've put a notice on the door that says open at 16:00. Well, let me say to the proprietors that I cannot see the notice on their door from three miles away. If the proprietors cannot be bothered to take the tiny amount of trouble required to update THEIR OWN WEB SITE with the CURRENT OPENING TIMES then they do not deserve to be in business at all. My advice would be, don't bother to travel more than a half mile to this pub as it can't be relied upon to be open. I certainly won't bother any more unless it happens to change hands again.

Went to the pub for rock and roll bingo with friends and family. Not only does the pub have a lovely atmosphere, but the service for food and drink was amazing. Tracy and Dan were so welcoming, and the rock and roll bingo was so much fun! Great local pub which welcomes anyone!

No disabled facilities at all. Garden access only , no toilet access for disabled either. Please be aware for wheelchair users.

It's a going pub. Landlord and landlady Dan and Tracey are nice people. Trying very hard to reestablish a place that, under previous landlords had lost it's way. The food via Truckelicius is excellent. But...the Arkells ale is so very woeful. Tasteless, thin and unpalatable so the Angel.. it will not be a first choice for us.

Spent a lovely afternoon in the beer garde. Good choice of drinks. Food was excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient. Dog friendly ☺️☺️ the only negative was they had run out of white wine!

On 9 July myself and my fiancé had our joint Hen and Stag at The Angel. We had 10 ladies on the Bubble Bus and tables reserved outside for the 7 men. We each paid £25 for two hours of unlimited Prosecco, Pimms, a selection of Gin, Bud and Corona. The service was nothing short of outstanding! We had a lady and a gentleman serving all 17 of us constantly for two hours and they never stopped once. They were passing drinks through the hatch to the men and passing drinks onto the bus for all the ladies. Not only was their service incredibly fast and accurate (considering the number of drinks we ordered) they were polite, friendly and easy to have a laugh with. These two are a credit to The Angel! Can’t wait to book this again for another event. Thank you for making our Hen and Stag so memorable.

Where there's no access for disabled people in this pub i fort we where in the year 2022 not Stone age

Sadly we arrived on a Monday for some lunch to discover it was shut , I had a lady in a wheelchair and on walking around we couldn't see any wheelchair access even if it was open , would like to know if there is wheelchair access as can eat there another time .

After reading the reviews I thought I was in different pub when I arrived Not a pleasant experience . Says food all day. Don't start cooking till 5. Chef was 45 mins late. Food was mediocre at best. Far to pricey for the quality. Fish and chips was OK but very soggy batter. Hunters chicken was nice but not worth the price by a long shot. Staff where nice enough. Although it's like the hills have eyes whe. You first walk in. The prosecco bus probably keeps this place alive. Won't be going there again. .

Excellent experience on the Bubble Decker. 2 hours of unlimited selected drinks including prosecco and gin. Danielle and " Barry" were great hosts. Also a few. Herky sambuccas whilst waiting for the taxi.

We came here to use the bubble decker bus! The service was amazing with drinks continuously flowing the whole two hours! It was decorated amazingly and is such a good experience with friends. Decided to have a drink in the bar where we witnessed the table of 7 who have complained below. They were rude to staff and complained although they apparently ate all their meals! If it was so bad you wouldn’t have eaten it! Sad after the pandemic that people are trying to worm their way out of paying when there is nothing wrong with the food or service! We will definitely be back soon!

Where do you start. Firstly most seating/chairs were rocking side to side and felt totally unstable. The fish menu was omitted, considering this is what I intended on eating. Once the food was ordered for 7 of us, we waited for nearly an hour for it to arrive. Food eventually arrived(very cold to say) absolutely shocked on the poor quality of food. Chicken burger was like a piece of rubber, the half pounders were the flat as a pancake type with no real taste of beef (would of made McDonald’s burgers look superior). The pork chops meal looked vile and barely touched as it did not look appetising. The so called pie meal was a simple shop pie still in its foil (really, this is what you call a pub pie). Why is a pizza being presented in a box when we are eating indoors (is this how you serve pizza). Unfortunately all members left more than three quarters of their food, it was shocking. On top of all this, ruined a birthday meal night out. The birthday cake which we brought in for the evening birthday meal was presented still in the plastic carrier bag with nothing to dish it into or cut it. The staff were rude and just laughed at the fact that our party of 7 members all were disappointed with the disgusting food & service. Unfortunately I cannot give a zero star for this pub and will ensure it is not recommend to anybody.

We came last night for dinner and had a lovely meal with fantastic food but was ruined by the table that have left a review today as well. They complained the whole time they were here. I have read what they have put and I totally disagree with all of it. This was a table of people who left nothing on their plates and decided to try and get a free meal by making a fuss to force the owners to allow them to leave without paying. It’s such a shame that there are people like this who felt it was acceptable to swear at a waitress who was only a young girl and decide to shout across the whole restaurant. I am glad the owners stood their ground and didn’t allow them to leave without paying. They clearly do this all the time. If you want good home cooked food this is the place to come and I really hope this family don’t con another pub/restaurant out of paying.

We had our first trip on the bubble Decker last night and it was absolutely fantastic. Our host Danielle was amazing. The drinks flowed freely for the 2 hours we were there. Excellent value for money. We will 100% do it again soon!

Absolutely love visiting here, everything about it from the food to the welcome is top-notch. Worth a visit if you're from outside the village, and if you're from Purton then hopefully you already know!

The best pie & mash we’ve ever had. I had lamb & mint and my husband had Venison. The meat was really lean and no fat which my husband loves. Champ mash with cabbage included 😋 we will 100% be back. The waitresses were lovely & polite.

We went to The Bubble decker bus for my friends birthday. £25 for 2 hours gin & Prosecco And it was well worth the money. The bus is beautiful and the staff were great! We will 100% be back !!!

We went for a meal here last night having had other plans cancelled last minute. They have just put together a new menu with much more reasonable prices than previously, and we both enjoyed our food very much. My wife had the duck with plum jus which was cooked very well, and I had the falafel burger which was deliciously crispy. So much better than the limp oven heated falafel you get in most places. Chips chunky and fluffy. Delicious! If you live locally, give it a go. We have been waiting for somewhere in Purton to serve decent food for a while since the Indian redtaurant shut its doors for eating in, so we will definitely be back to try again. Also, as a vegetarian I was informed that more options will be forthcoming which I look forward to.

Really confy place for have a dinner or just few drinks. Really amazing staff very lovely they are. We have tried the Chicken,Gammon , leak Pie and the beef one was tasting amazing. Really recomended❤

I’d heard good things about this Pub. I arranged to meet with friends at the establishment on the afternoon of Friday 20th August because their website said open from 12:00. I booked a taxi from Swindon and arrived at just after midday, only to find that they were not open and a sign outside the pub announced ‘open at 4pm’ and all doors securely locked. Initially I was left stranded as my taxi had left with me £8.40 worse off. Lucky my friends soon arrived to provide transport to the alternative venue. My friends travelled from Hankerton and Hullavington. Not just around the corner for them! Would’ve liked to have experienced The Angel as I had heard complimentary reviews. Sent them an email to advise them that their website is out of date. Haven’t received a response. They really need to update their website; particularly as we spent a fair chunk of money on meals and drinks. I’m hoping that I can give it a higher score once I do get to visit. Think I’ll ring in advance next time!!

Placed an Order via the Just Eat app, waited over 45 minutes for the order to be confirmed, and nothing, no one answers the phone when you try to contact them. Just Eat were a nightmare to get a refund from as there system, didn't recognise me or my account from which they had just taken the money for the order from. 1st and last time for trying the Angel. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. And im sure the Covid Excuse will be rolled out for such poor service

The food was nice, but my friends had fish and chips and the menu did not say that the batter was curried and they don't like spicy food. The food was all in takeaway containers although we were indoors. My Pulled pork was lovely.

Upon booking the Angel during the Covid period we don’t expect fine dining but the menu on offer was not what was on the web site. Understanding things are not as they used to be we carried on looking at the small menu on offer. Most of the items on the menu were spiced but there were several traditional item on offer as I am not a lover of spiced food. I chose the Sausage in Yorkshire pudding. After a few minutes the waitress came back and said they had sold out of this, I therefore went for the beer battered fish and chips. I also asked for a side of onion rings. Upon receipt of the items which arrived in a cardboard box rather than on a plate even though we were not attending for a take away, the onion rings were in a curry batter (not stated in the menu) and the the fish in a similar batter. When we asked the waitress she said the batter was curry batter. This was not on the menu so be warned if you are not a curry lover as there is nothing else available on the menu. I will not be returning, we were very disappointed as this was to celebrate my birthday. The rest of the four in our party were ok with spice but we all agreed it should be stated the type of batter on the menu.

Just finished the lamb and mint sausage casserole in a giant yourkshire pud and had to review it immediately. Amazing! 10/10 will get again

Jolly good food in a relaxed, friendly pub with plenty of seating inside and out. I don't think the bubble and squeak with crispy poached egg is still on the menu (if it reappears, give it a try!) but plenty of other pub staples, done well and sensibly priced.

We have been to the Angel a good few times. the staff are friendly and we received great service , the food has bee excellent every time. real value for money i recommend you give them a try and judge for yourself

Just had a Sunday lunch delivered for the first time after reading some recommendations. They were not wrong, the food was very good, it was delivered when expected and was great value for money. We will definitely be ordering again.

The new owners have transformed the place so lovely inside. Food was great and they deliver food during week and you can get a great delivered Sunday roast what more could anyone want! Fabulous

During the current lockdown it was a pleasant surprise to see The Angel advertising it was able to deliver Sunday roast dinners, and as my mum was recently out of hospital we thought we would treat ourselves. We were so glad we did, as the food delivered was nothing short of superb given the circumstances. We were so impressed, we ordered another the following week and it was just as good. Keep up the good work.

We started to use The Angel since we had to be on lockdown. They have a great menu and on Sundays they even do roasts. Pizza is also available, if anyone is interested. We phone the order through, pay by card and they deliver according to the requests. Lovely food, great service and prompt deliveries. Can't wait to go there once this is all over. Thumbs up for The Angel.

This is our new local having not long moved into the village. We have had family gatherings , met with friends and been for the Sunday carvery. Food was great, locals friendly and staff great too. Our friends even get a lift home after as they have a taxi service!

Going of a recommendation from a friend my partner suggested we go to The Angel for my birthday dinner. I thought it would be standard pub food, however I was so surprised to see it was so much more. My steak was cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was delicious; I like the twist they put on it. My partner had the chicken and it was fantastic. The only reason she couldn’t finish it was because the portion size as it was substantial. Our little one was accommodated for by having sausages and chips (a favourite of hers). The establishment has had a make over and the decor is really well done. The staff were friendly and very pleasant. I will be paying a visit again soon.

I've never been to the Angel before and I found it was a very nice clean friendly pub with one side having entertainment football all all nice and friendly. As to go for the food I will go there as I was told it is good.

Went here as part of a group event. The food was so disgusting it made the Toby look a la carte. When I asked for a vegetarian option the answer was no! Never been anywhere vegetarians were made to sit with a meat dinner in front of them. Tinned veg and everything liked on the plate under a swamp of gravy. One guest asked for no sprouts and the message back from the chef was tough sht I’ve already plated them. The waitress there, blonde with glasses should win an award for the rudest waitress in wiltshire! Well done Arkles for ruining what was a great venue.

This lovely pub has a great feel, with an open fire and a great menu. The food choice is varied, well presented and has a lovely flavour. We both opted for the chicken curry with salsa. The curry was well cooked a d flavoursome, the salsa for me a little hot yet my friend said it was perfect. The dessert menu is limited yet a good mix is available and the ginger ice cream served with the Christmas pudding was perfect and DELICIOUS. Other flavours a available too.The only thing that spoilt our visit was the young blonde waitress who made it obvious she could not be bothered if we had dessert or not, left without paying or just generally did not bother her. She and even got the bill wrong. No word of apology, it was difficult to get her attention and speech seemed beyond her grasp.That said we would visit again and plan to do so soon.The food is worth it.

My Brother in law rang and booked a table for three of us for lunch on Tuesday 17th December at 1pm as this was a mid way point for us to meet. We duly arrived to find the Angel closed even though its signage said opening hours were covered by our booking. NEVER AGAIN-TERRIBLE CUSTOMER CARE.WE HAD TRAVELLED FROM CARDIFF AND MY BROTHER I LAW FROM BASINGSTOKE. Luckily we got the last table in THE BELL superb service and food.

Absolutely delicious Sunday carvery

We went to lunch expecting a standard pub food but were pleasantly surprised by the very tasty and well presented dishes. We were allowed to choose from the evening menu as the lunch menu was a bit limited.

Staff were really friendly and there was a really nice vibe in the pub to have a drink in.

The carvery food was covered with foil but unfortunately all the veg was cold. We were told to wait five mins when it could be heated up again! Meanwhile the meat had already been plated so that was Luke warm by the time the veg came out. There was only one portion of cauliflower cheese left and was told there was no more.

Excellent venue with nice selection of ales, the food is standard country pub fare put excellent value for money and incredibly tasty, definetly will be a new local of choice. The interior is really quirky and cosy and the staff extremely welcoming, this is what any local pub should strive to be, was glad they welcomed dogs to the bar area.

It has recently been taken over by new landlords, who decided to make the car park out the back a pay and display...for a pub....in a village?! The result of this has been that customers of the pub have been parking anywhere but in the pay and display carpark. Contact to the pub regarding this issue were completely ignored, so we made contact with the Arkells Brewery who said that they would make sure that patrons were aware that their parking would be reimbursed. A sign was put up in the car park saying so for about two days and was swiftly removed. Arkells also said that the bar staff would always ask punters if they needed their parking reimbursed, which of course they never do. For a pub which is part of a small community it seems an incredibly uncommunity focussed thing to do. Frankly I don't feel that the new owners nor Arkells actually care at all, as long as they can make money anyway possible. Meanwhile, all the people who live near to the pub (and have done for years and years) have to tolerate people parking on their flower beds, blocking in their cars and in some cases even parking in front of their driveways. All because the new owners think they ought to charge people for parking to visit their pub, which is in the countryside? All in all a great shame.

Excellent food and very different to before

Typical local village pub. Sadly not many people for a Thursday but staff friendly enough. Had some ales on gravity feed that were not Arkells which made the visit worthwhile

We’ve had several meals at the Angel since it’s been taken over and the staff were brilliant, they can’t do enough for you. The food which is traditionally pub grub, we could not fault and overall it was excellent value for money.
