WARNING: no longer a child friendly place under new ownership Our recent visit to The Church Green was deeply disappointing and embarrassing. On a Friday sunny afternoon, we went with friends and our children, expecting a pleasant time. The kids (all aged 3-5) were innocently playing on the grassy area out the back, as they usually do, when they were approached by staff and they was first asked to stop climbing the big tree at the back and playing with the fairy doors which they did, despite us feeling like it was unnecessary as they were causing no harm. Shortly after, the children moved on and were approached again for climbed a small wall and playing hide and seek, and to our shock, without second warning we were asked to leave on behalf of the owners. This reaction was entirely uncalled for, especially since there were no signs indicating that children couldn't play in the garden. The previous owners always welcomed families, and our children have been used to playing in the outdoor grassy space, making this interaction both surprising and disheartening. We left feeling unwelcome and completely embarrassed, a stark contrast to the warm experiences we previously enjoyed here. I won’t be stepping foot in here again and am utterly shocked at how the staff have treated us, especially on a quiet Friday afternoon in the school holidays Also to mention my husband and I visited earlier in the week without children and didn’t have a particularly great experience either (both within the same week) Took ages to take our drinks order, they then forgot to bring them and when we got our bill we were overcharged for both of our main courses. While we appreciate your concern for health and safety, we must address a few points. As parents, we equally prioritise the well-being and respectful behavior of our children. At no point during our visit were we informed that our children were throwing stones at the property or causing damage. This is the first we are hearing of these accusations, and it is quite distressing. When the staff asked the children to stop climbing the tree, we immediately intervened and ensured they complied. We were not approached again or informed of any further issues until we were asked to leave, which left us feeling blindsided and embarrassed. Our children are only five years old and were simply playing, as children do. If there were specific concerns or incidents, we would have appreciated being addressed directly and treated like responsible adults. Children of that age do not act with malicious intent, and we believe the situation could have been handled more amicably with better communication. We value respectful interactions and would have preferred a more constructive approach to resolve any issues. If there are areas of concern regarding health and safety, it would be helpful to have clear signs or fencing around the tree to prevent climbing, and doors or signs in areas deemed unsafe to guide parents and children appropriately to avoid future incidents.

No longer child friendly under new ownership. We were told to leave because the kids were enjoying the tree and the grass. Another friend of mine was told to leave as their child was sitting on a wall. I do not advise you go here with children. If they don’t want kids to climb the tree they need a sign.

Gorgeous place, attentive staff. Our first time there. Food a bit expensive and uncle had a disappointing fish... But the rest of the food was yummy. The garden is beautiful.... Will definitely go there again 😁😁😁

First visit since new owners. Menu a bit eclectic but something for everyone. Only downside was that the fish (and and chips) appeared to have been salted before being battered.

We had lunch here yesterday, the service was great, a really helpful lady from St. Helens - in fact all the staff were friendly. The food was great, the napkins with the food were much better than the usual thin paper ones and the hand paper towels in the ladies' toilet were (evidently) really good. A very well run pub. Bought a Cruffin and a Choc Brownie in the deli - the Cruffin was very different, but good, the Brownie is waiting to be eaten shortly!

Came here for a meal to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. Despite there being 16 of us, the food came out together & it was hot. They even made a pizza especially for my very fussy daughter (which wasn't part of the menu) The staff were amazing & looked after us well. Thank you!

This place has been recently taken over by a member of the same family. The owner took the time to sit down with us and chat and send sushi tasters round which were delicious. Lovely pub inside and out with great service.

Food was really good, service was a bit slow and it was not really that busy, under new management recently so maybe just getting to grips with things. Nice location, we'll certainly be giving it another visit.

After a walk in the Lymm area, we only wanted a small meal, so we had several starters and a salad to create a tapas style meal. The wine added to the experience. The staff were very helpful without being obtrusive. The new owner was on hand to greet his customers. The atmosphere was excellent. The newly decorated premises were perfect. Try it yourself. We will go again after this first ever visit.

How times have changed! Two years ago my review was "Superb Eggs Benedict with their own cured ham. Pretty much perfect 👍" Today my son visited and also ordered Eggs Benedict, but was served with Eggs Derelict! A split sauce is unacceptable. No offer to replace and full price charged. Very poor See photo for quality of the dish served.

Popped in here for some lunch in May 24 . Good selection of drinks and food was very nice . A bit more than normal pub food price wise, but well worth it ! Limited parking outside, and can get a it busy at peak times so best to book ahead

Great stop on a bike ride for tea/coffee/ice cream etc. Decent choice, vegan options and locally made produce.

Stopped off here one Sunday whilst out on bike. Not the cheapest of places but all food was hand made and the service was excellent. Nice little stop, will go again when in area.

First time here and the whole vista was fantastic. Only just found out the owners are leaving to pursue other opportunities. I wish who takes over from them all the luck we will return soon

My family and I took a drive up from Liverpool for my sons 15th birthday. After following Aidan for a number of years I knew that the food would be on point and we were not disappointed, every dish perfectly cooked and seasoned . We all had a starter main and dessert, the black pudding scotch eggs , wow !! For a 20 minute drive for us this will most definitely be a more regular thing for us. Thank you again and we will be seeing you soon.

I only went in for a drink and found staff very unfriendly and dismissive as if I were an inconvenience rather than a valued customer.

Popped in for a pint of IPA and decided to treat the family to a meal here. Service is professional, polite, attentive and the food was good. My wife and I enjoyed the meal with our two young boys.

Met up with a friend for lunch at the Church Green Lymm. We both really enjoyed the ambience and food. My fish and chips were excellent 😋 with a great twist on mushy peas too. Will be back

It's back! We've had some really great meals here over the years but during COVID we had a could that were a bit ho-hum so hadn't visited for a couple of years. But, this latest visit was great and I'm really pleased that the place has got back to the brilliant standards it had before. Great ingredients, really great cooking and perfect service. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely stunning. Relaxed atmosphere and surroundings with seriously good food. We were both totally blown away with the standard - this could stand proud among Michelin star restaurants. Amazing mix on the menu but even the most ‘standard’ of dishes are done with a twist. Simply cannot wait to go back, I actually had one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Amazing

Great lunch on 17.03.24. Tomato Arancini starter was lovely and my friends chicken parfait was spot on. The pie of the day was tasty and the staff were wonderful. Great sense of humour. Thanks for everything and we will definitely return 😊

Had lunch today. Ordered beef and Guinness pie. Unfortunately mine had way too much veg in it, over half the pie. Everyone else's pie was as it should be though.

Excellent. Food was delicious. Only criticism was the warm dessert served in cold dishes with cold custard? Will definitely return.

Really nice pub with good service and nice food. Only reason it's not a 5 star is because if I'm paying £40 for a steak I don't want to then pay extra for some sides to make it a full meal. It's a nice treat but certainly not somewhere you could go every week.

We could only get a table outside on a rainy November Sunday due to poor planning on our part, but it was well worth it for the fabulous roast, one of the best I’ve had for a long time, and such friendly and professional service. Next time I’ll book in advance as inside looked very cosy. Big thumbs up from me 👍

Beautiful surroundings and next to St Mary's Church in Lymm. Lymm Dam being just a little further up. The ice cream was the best I've ever tasted, I chose Candyfloss. The Sausage roll had huge meat content and was fairly priced.

Unfriendly rude, arrogant staff (family run) in the restaurant. The deli shop..£6.50 for a dry sourdough loaf., with so many good bakeries not too far away, I will NEVER go in this shop again. The shelves were virtually empty and in place some naff books. Looks like the place is on its last legs. Like to support local business but not at any price and without a smile.

A lovely drink after a walk around Lymm Dam. Bright, airy pub with a great atmosphere.

We came along yesterday with our pooches after a stroll round the dam, as per our first date 1.5 years ago! As always we had the BEST time! The staff are brilliant, the atmosphere and comfort, and the food and drink are spot on! A particular shout out to ‘Dave’/ Francesca/ Davecesca for being so welcoming and great with our dogs. And also a huge thank you to the kitchen staff for doing us a special request - a side of Frickles!! The fries were sexy too! Visited Saturday evening 9 September for a special Birthday Meal on the invitation of friends. We received a warm welcome and was taken to a nice corner table at the top end of the restaurant. Our starter and main courses were all delicious and cooked to perfection. Service was efficient and attentative without being intrusive. Atmosphere and ambience was pleasant and relaxed. We had a very enjoyable evening. The Church Green is to be recommended. Many Thanks.

Had a roast dinner very basic 3 tiny roast potatoes and the gravy was like water no taste whatsoever asked me mint sauce and it was as if you had picked it from the garden yourself dry also no price menu for the roast dinner which I found odd as there was a menu for every think else my granddaughter had a browny and ice cream dessert £9 which I found expensive will not be returning

Tremendously average pub fare, in a mediocre atmosphere (full of old people but with terrible acoustic), and with the slowest and most inattentive service I've experienced in years. As me and my partner stood at the entrance, various waiters refused to acknowledge we were waiting to be seated; nobody else showed up, and a queue built up behind us. Eventually a guy scurried past, shouting "won't be a minute!" - except it was more like 5-10 before he came to confirm our booking and very unceremoniously dropped us at our table. He then instructed us to "ignore the first paragraph" of the menu, i.e. the lunch section - like we couldn't read. We ordered drinks, and one of them ended up being... just a glass of ice, due to a mix-up from a waitress who was clearly on her first day (on a Saturday night, really?); alerted of the error, they finally brought a bottle - which wasn't what we ordered but hey, at least it was something. Waiters would then just disappear constantly for extended periods, which was incredibly irritating as we were trying to order our mains and later pay the bill - we couldn't get ourselves to ask for desserts, as it had taken almost 90 minutes to have a single course. On a Saturday night, with half the restaurant empty, I wouldn't expect this sort of service from the local noodles joint, let alone from a place charging 17 quid for a burger. If it was a technique to get us to order more drinks, it backfired spectacularly. Thankfully "service is not included", so we weren't forced to tip, but we won't be back anytime soon.

We had an amazing Sunday Roast here, it was simply divine!! We were lucky to get one because I’ve heard these sell quick.

Had the best experience at the Church Green. The staff were very extremely friendly and food was delicious. We had a fabulous surf and turf burger. Our waitress, Sarah, was absolutely amazing and it was overall great value for money

Highly disappointed in food and service Waited an hour for a burger which was disgusting Hubby ordered a vegan meal as he is a vegetarian slapped a sausage and mash in front of him Service slow would not recommend

Went here for a family meal, the service was very slow, we were sat next to the door, which was constantly being left open by staff which made everyone cold, the pizza flavours were weird, not the usual Classics but the pizza bases were nice, we had an uncooked king prawn which we had to send back and they didn’t offer us anything in replacement though they did apologise, the coleslaw was absolutely disgusting I’m not sure what they put in it but we all tried it and agreed it was bad and a good note the sticky toffee pudding is really delicious.

Been coming here for a few years now, always look forward to go as we always have a lovely meal, menu changes/additions are always great and the service is spot on. The soups are always amazing! We feel this gives great value for money. Child friendly too.

Burnt pizza from 'the shack' was inedible and thankfully removed from the bill when I took it back. Shack fries were delightful - spiced with paprika and plentiful. Wagyu burger and the ham, egg and chips both good quality and well cooked. The hispi cabbage was always going to be a bit try hard and it was, very small disc of bubble and squeak, lack of flavour to the cabbage and can no way be worth £17 a portion. Good beer, delicious gin and the staff were absolutely LOVELY. I was really surprised by the lack of buzz for a Friday evening but maybe we were too early. Let's call it a bit of a curate's egg this time.

Utterly disappointing! Prior to booking I had researched local pubs with good reviews for Sunday dinner. When we arrived at 6pm we were told they were all sold out. The alternative menu was incredibly disappointing and unimaginative, considering the hype of the pub having a Michelin Star chef. Our group agreed unanimously we could have prepared the dishes better at home. To make things worse the carpets are grubby, the toilet floors slippery and the decor very uninspiring. Sorry Church Green, but you can do much, much better.

The food is always really delicious. Quality ingredients and interesting flavours. Service is friendly and welcoming. The Surf and turf burger is incredible 🤤and the hot Hawaiian pizza is a game changer. Portion sizes are large…I always leave stuffed. Yes it might be a touch more expensive than other places in Lymm but you really do get what you pay for here.

Traditional pub turned into a restaurant. Choice limited but different. Food quality and quantity good. Service, poor knowledge of wines but reacted positively to a complaint. Conservatory very warm and airless, very noisy.

Nice spot for a few drinks, loads of outdoor seating. We had a wood fired pizza which was really good. Good selection of drinks, well worth a visit.

It's a lovely restaurant in a great setting. The food was excellent quality and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I can definitely recommend this place. It's a gem of a restaurant and not far from the M6. So if you're travelling north or south on the M6 it's well worth a stop off. It's 5 to 10 minutes away at Lymm.

My wife and son went for the fish n chips... verdict ---- Probably the best fish and chips in the UK. Well made crunchy lite batter and fresh fish along with crunch chunky chips and nice sides.... The food here is always top class

Lovely pub. Had breakfast of mushrooms on toast. Very generous portion, though it had an unusual taste. Possibly fennel or chicory? Whilst not unpleasant it overwhelmed the mushroom flavour and not sure it's a flavour I want for breakfast. I did polish the lot off though. I love strong coffee but the coffee here was too strong making it bitter. Very friendly and efficient service.

First visit for me. With friends and just wanted a light lunch. We had toasted sandwiches and similar. Excellent and a little different. Had a real ale to wash it down and that was good also. Parking can be a bit of an issue. Worth a visit.

Good quality food and can recommend the Sunday roasts. The beef was excellent, but one of the party was a vegetarian and said the nut roast tasted like it had been deep fried. The only thing the really lets the place down are the toilets that need a deep clean.

We had a private event last night: it couldn’t have been better. It was low key but excellent quality. My local friends already know how good you are but friends came from the furthest reaches of the UK, and they were also wowed. My non local vegan friends thought the vegan burgers were incredible. A special mention to Martin for being very patient and accommodating, he was brilliant. Rory too on the night. Any future events, we will definitely come to you.

We went here for lunch last week after passing by for years and very glad we did. Lovely meal was had by all and staff were great, attentive and friendly. Well worth a visit.

Popped in after a walk around spud wood on a Saturday afternoon, greeted and treated warmly by the staff and service was first class, it was very busy but the atmosphere was great. Had the soft shell crab burger which was great. Must go back and try more of the menu. Definitely recommend 👍👏

We do not know the area and booked based on other reviews and the Michelin guide. It was Friday lunchtime pre-Christmas - the place was very busy but all the staff were prompt, efficient and cheerful at serving us. The Warm Crapaudine Beetroot, baked fig and pine nut coated goat’s cheese starter was divine. The main of Crisp Pork Belly, pearl barley, kale and pork cheek was cooked to perfection - particularly the crispy bit. There was a hint of theatre as two staff simultaneously poured the hot salted caramel sauce onto the passion fruit and chocolate bombe to trigger molten joy! Absolutely top quality food at a great price - we must find another reason to drive 150 miles here again...soon!

Lovely place with excellent food and friendly staff. You might want to contact your mortgage adviser first if you fancy a steak (but it was delicious)!

We had a late lunch here after a long dog walk and we enjoyed everything. The service was great, the food was out of this world we enjoyed the atmosphere. Cod and the vegan burger are highly recommended. Make sure to upgrade the chips to truffle chips for that added joy.

The roast beef Sunday lunch was good, pork croquettes ok Chicken liver parfait looked like it had been served by a 7 year old. Our server was good the girl that showed us to our table ran through the specials like road runner. Forgot to give us a wine list and then departed. We ordered drinks and waited 40 minutes for the starters to arrive it wasn’t a £9 chicken liver parfait. The beef was good and we enjoyed that much less the door being opened and shut letting the cold air through at regular intervals throughout the lunch We had planned on ordering the chateaubriand but decided against it when we saw our table next to the front door We paid £90 and to be honest it was no better than other pubs in the area where you can pay £60-£70. Would I go back perhaps but would want to ensure a decent table somewhere without dogs and as far away from the door as possible Shame as we eat out a lot and we’re expecting far better Expect good pub food but certainly not fine dining

Lovely meaty burger... ... but not a lot of taste actually! I have stopped in a few times over the past while and enjoyed my 'dining experience', so i was looking forward to another good meal. Sadly not the best burger I have had. Good previously, so happy to give it another go.

A wonderful time last night for my brother in laws 40th birthday! Martin and Fran were brilliant. Martin looked after our table and his customer service was brilliant! Rare to find someone with such a nice manner with people. Food was awesome and reasonably priced for the quality! Plenty of choice and the desserts were epic! Thanks to everyone!

Some of the best food I've had in a long time. A group of 5 of us visited for a birthday on a Saturday night but the service was still great despite the place being packed. The soft shell crab burger and artichoke mousse dishes are definitely something to write home about! Didn't get to try the dessert menu as we had cake but will definitely next time.

Seen pretty much a lot of bad reviews on ribeye and fillet steaks here, dont know why, but I do believe peoples who are complaining is expecting to get meal free or they simply dont know what tendering level they prefer, for example a lot of complains about overcooking, so dont choose a well done and it will be not overcooked 😂 However 8oz fillet steak it was great, thats all I would suggest is to not charge customers for sauce extra money, but service and steak as I said it was perfect. Those who never tried and dont know what tendering level would be best for you, try from medium well, enjoy. Probably back again ;)

Very poor service, the worst roast dinner I’ve ever had and to add to the insult at the high end of roast dinner prices. We waited an eternity to be served, in the end I had to call the waitress over. The people next to us, who arrived after us had their food before we ordered. Then when the roast dinner arrived, it was luke warm, except the Beef…which was cold. The gravy was very runny and tasteless. On the plus side, the carrot was nice. My dogs had most of the dinner and seemed to enjoyed it. When the waitress came and asked how was everything and I mentioned it was quite possibly the worst roast I’d ever had, she said sorry and that she’s let the chef know. I’m suspecting she didn’t, which in her defence because she was pleasant enough would be because she was quite timid. So in summary, don’t go for the Sunday roast. Very over priced and underwhelming.
