I like this place for the odd buy - like to get something that I wouldn't find elsewhere- but just for that really. I also like it's cosy atmosphere and the fact that there are some rare items. I also particularly like the options at the bakery and the different breads available. The focaccia is really nice and we have bought it two times so far. Some of the salads are nice as well, like the tabbouleh and the butternut squash one. Things I think need improvement: . Some prices are shockingly high- like ice cream is £8 ish for a tub. A bottle of orange juice is also nearly £6, 2 chicken tikka skewers are £12, £12 for a practically mini new york cheesecake. Anyway, as you can see some of the prices don't make sense. . The bakery section is the only place really that has affordable options. The prices in this section are average, like £2.50 for a cupcake, and £3.50 for a chocolate tiffin, is expected nowadays. . I think since this is the farm and they produce some of their own products, they should also be selling their own ice cream, milk, eggs, like many other farms (As I could see another farm's branding on the ice cream tub). We came here for the cafe as well, but unfortunately it's been closed. We were told it will open in 2026. The plan for the new place seems cool though. The customer service was good both times we visited too. All in all, I will be back here for the occasional buy, but I think unless you have a million pounds, you need to pick and choose what you buy so it doesn't add up to £200. I do like to support independent businesses though to where I can, so I am giving this place four stars. I do feel like there is still, regardless, not many places like here in Wilmslow and it is quite unique.

I have been a frequent customer at the cafe with my family for many years, which is always lovely, but had no idea that they also did party food. We ordered several canapes and small bites, all of which were of a high quality, absolutely delicious and excellent value. Really recommend if you are having a party or even a small get together; whenever those are allowed again.

i dropped by with my boyfriend just before 3.30 on a wet saturday afternoon. We helped ourselves to a table with little acknowledgement from the staff. There was definitely an air of wanting to close up and i did feel slightly in the way. After settling on food we were told only some items could be ordered so we had to settle on a sausage butty & a cream cheese bagel, on arrival the appearance of the latter would have made a New Yorker weep, it looked like it had been run over & there was no dill pickle. My boyfriend said his sandwich was good but overpriced. i heard another table being told what they couldn't order with a customer asking why he could order bacon but not an egg (the frying pan had been retired for the day apparently), it was all a little awkward and felt like leaving. The cost of these snacks; including a hot chocolate and elderflower was more than £15!! i had lunch there once before @ 1.30 and it was good if pricey. i would suggest to avoid disappointing people to just close up completely earlier in the day rather than give the impression you can still have a meal. i wish i hadn't suggested here and felt bad for my boyfriend who was paying.

I’ve been coming here for years. Always nicely busy, a comfortable place to be and great produce used on their very extensive menu. A place I always felt I’d recommend to anyone. I’m not quite sure what’s going on. We arrived after the lunch rush, just after 2.30. Nobody to greet and seat so after a few minutes of standing about we decided to sit down at a free table. As we sat down, a waitress came out of the kitchen so I asked if it was ok to take the table we had. A cursory grunt... We were quickly informed that only ‘the bacon to the bagel’ on the menu was available as it was after 2:30. Five or six choices off a menu that must feature over thirty dishes on a SATURDAY. We made our choices, service was slow, but the food when it game was good (as it should be for a smoked salmon bagel and a sausage butty, let’s face it you’d have to try hard to mess that up) My friend then decided on dessert and coffee. We tried for quite some time - in a now mostly empty restaurant - to catch the eye of our waitress and when she passed and I asked politely if I could order a dessert, I was met with an impatient ‘can I just do this first??’ Another waitress overheard and offered to do it for us. There was a fair bit of noticeable disharmony between the staff and complaints made between themselves could be heard by both myself and my friend. We honestly felt like we were a huge inconvenience. After another lengthy wait I asked for the bill. It didn’t come. We watched instead as our waitress sat at the table next to us ‘cashing up’, or rather counting blue copies of orders. After a good while she approached the table and asked if we wouldn’t mind paying as she wanted to finish up. At this point I told her that I had asked her for bill ten minutes ago and still hadn’t received it. ‘Well you didn’t ask me’ came the reply. Ugh. All in all, very uncomfortable. Snappish service and for me, an extensive menu shouldn’t be so limited at 2.30pm on a Saturday. I noticed that you could order a fried egg on your bacon butty, but not after 2.30pm?? After 2.30pm it was a bacon butty without an egg. Crazy. If this had been my first visit, I would never had made a second. In fact, despite enjoying it a lot over the years, I doubt I will be back. Such a shame...

Having visited the SmokeHouse several times we were looking forward to trying your new restaurant in Wilmslow. What a let down!! We read the menu outside the restaurant and decided to order a Sharing Platter - which sounded delicious. We went upstairs and looked at a very shabby menu - no Sharing Platter - they are not available until after four o’clock. The waitress suggested we went back down stairs and looked at the sandwiches!! We were hoping to have a glass of wine each, but they weren’t on the menu. We would have had to go down stairs to view the sandwiches, order the food, then unless we went together one of us would have had to check out the wine list then come back upstairs to let the other decide what they wanted to drink. Not what we expected from the owners of the SmokeHouse.

Called in for lunch and waited half an hour on a crowded stairway - surely a health and safety hazard? when seated, and there were plenty of empty tables, just no staff to clear, it was all very offhand and no apology. Then another 10 minutes for someone to take our order. When the food came it was tasty but it's not so good it makes up for the poor organisation of this cafe.

Visited for lunch, waited over half a hour for a table and then at least another half an hour for any food to arrive. Coffee had been drunk by then. The food as ever was excellent but.... either they don’t care because the car park is always full or the management need to look at their staff training and numbers. They leave tables empty and not cleared almost as if it’s a way of giving themselves a bit of respite. Simply good enough. Other farm shops do it better.

Absolutely love this place. I've never read the reviews before and I'm not surprised to see mainly great comments. The few 'negative' comments are around price, noise and wait time. The Smokehouse is a small venue (for dining) so you will often have to wait. You cannot book a table here. It's worth the wait, it's not fast food, it's made fresh on the premises using local produce, made with care and pride. So be prepared! Read a book, chat to your dining companion or browse the shop - we've become so used to food being 'fast' that we've forgotten how to wait. So if you are that impatient - there are plenty of alternatives.

Quality ingredients ensure great meals regardless of my yoyo diet whims (carb free, fat free, meat free) I'm always treated to a good MEAL. My protein driven partner devours everything from flavorsome black pudding through to steak. My omega 3 needs are easily covered by salmon, smoked fish and my all time favorite, herring salad. Rarely write a review but this was a real find. My wife and I went for the first time on a friends recommendation and couldn't disagree more strongly with a previous reviewer. Yes the restaurant was busy but we were very pleasantly told whilst waiting that their might be a wait. The staff obviously knew some of the people waiting but everyone was served in order and no one was favoured before anyone else. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and we were seated as soon as they had a table. The food was excellent and a very high standard. They adapted the menu slightly to tailor it to our requests and they were more than happy to do this. Yes we waited a short time as they were very busy, but it was well worth waiting for and everyone was served in turn. In short good food and friendly, courteous staff. We would definitely return.

A lunch at The Cheshire Smokehouse was a natural way to continue a visit to the Quarry Bank Mill (about 20 minutes by car -- beware of stationary traffic in the centre of Wilmslow).Excellent and slightly unusual food -- the exoticism factor was important, my friends were from America, and they were delighted; smoked duck breast salad is especially recommended. The interior of cafe has no atmosphere; its cheap look sends wrong signal, food served there deserves better ambience. The clientele is slightly unusial: elderly Cheshire ladies who lunch. However the shop was disappointing, it is basicaly an overpriced deli, although they sell a selection of their own smoked stuff. I bought for taking home some smoked duck breast, chicken breast, trout; It is difficult to spoil duck, but fish requires more gentle treatment, and smoked trout was below expectations, it had clay-like texture. .However, very caring and friendly service.

Visited this location for the first time Aug 2017. Since I smoke a lot of food I thought I could get some new ideas. Alas the shop is a deli, rather on the expensive side and no help at all.The café sells local produce including some of their own. It is located up a flight of stairs with no disabled access that I could see. We arrived at the right time and were soon sitting down. The café was full with what appeared to be the elderly members of the 'Cheshire set'. Unfortunately those that arrived after us had a l o n g wait before they were seated. The staff were friendly, but it appeared that there just were not enough of them. There were two waitresses and they were rather busy to say the least. However I did notice that they welcomed some of their customers by their first names, which was good.We ordered our food and eventually it arrived. I had the smoked meat and fish platter and although it was a bit on the expensive side it was worth the long wait. Dishes other customers ordered look quite good too,I would recommend the café at this location as long as your not in a rush.

We weren't disappointed with the shop , beautiful produce and reasonably priced however we didn't get chance to even glimpse the restaurant. It's located above and the queue to dine was snaked all the way down the stairs . The atmosphere sounded great though and they are obviously doing something right. They told us that we would have to wait for around an hour and they didn't take advance bookings so with hungry bellies my mum and I left in search of substance else where ! She did say that in future it's best to turn up for an early lunch as 1-2pm is always really popular ! This was our second visit to the Cheshire Smokehouse Cafe. As usual for a Saturday the place was very busy and had the happy bustle of people enjoying home cooked ingredients that had been sourced with taste, quality and nature in mind. The small team of waitresses and waiter work very hard but still keep the service personal and very welcoming. As expected the menu wasn't really aimed at our 7 year old Son, but the staff helped, suggested and were accommodating to a level to shame most far bigger restaurants. Needless to say both times food was polished off with enthusiasm. The food was fantastic. The bacon wasn't salty but full of flavour, the black pudding was rich and earthy with a slight spice, and the egg yolks were a brilliant deep yellow. My 89 year old Dad was commenting for the rest of the day how much he had enjoyed the brunch. Will be back for another helping soon!!

Lunch finishes at 2.30 ( not stated on their website) so ended up having to order a basic tea cake, scone and a pot of tea. 45 minutes later we were told that the tea cakes would be a further ten minutes. We could of went to a local supermarket, bought the tea cakes, drove home a grilled them ourselves well before the time it took to produce these. Staff member suggested we had the scone first. Tea had been well finished by then . Although the food was ok when it eventually arrived, why does it take almost an hour to produce a toasted tea cake ? Service was appalling with no urgency in the place from any member of staff we observed. Will give it a wide berth next time we are in the area. Probably the worst place we've been to from a service point of view !

Enjoy great local food. Breakfast with local sausage. Lunch with tender steak from a farm. The shop can take pounds from you but the food is outstanding.

A Wilmslow secret that's just got discovered. I will be back.Friendly welcome, tasty food - ordered cooked breakfasts with tea. Higher priced breakfast but worth it!! Lovely smoked honey cured bacon and sausages with delightful flavoursome toast with bread made there. Service was friendly and attentive, I liked the fact that toast was served just before the main breakfast.. The shop down stairs was equally good. All worth it!

I last visited the Smokehouse over 5 years ago and can't think why I left it so long to revisit. If you can tear yourself away from the fantastic shop downstairs, the cafe upstairs is well worth a visit. The staff were really friendly and helpful, coming to find us in the shop when our table was ready. Having seen the fabulous produce on sale downstairs, choosing from the menu was difficult as most dishes featured the products on sale. I eventually settled for a Farmer's Platter - probably the best ploughman's lunch I have ever eaten. My favourite ingredient was the pork pie. Or maybe the baked ham. Possibly the blue cheese. Then again, maybe the Cheddar cheese. Or the piccalilli? Heck, every part of the platter was gorgeous. Him indoors had smoked salmon and poached eggs on a potato cake. Plenty of salmon served with lovely runny yolk eggs topped a potato cake. As that was a lite bite, he followed it with a scone served with jam and cream. As the home made scone was so big I had to help out and wasn't disappointed. The meal and subsequent shop were both great experiences with delicious food served or sold by attentive and friendly staff. One word of warning; take loads of money because you'll want to buy everything in the shop. Definitely won't be waiting five years before my next visit.

We love trying new farm shops and after reading the reviews decided to go for breakfast we got there for 10 when it opened but there were only a few tables left. Service was quite quick and the staff were brilliant! I had scrambled eggs and they were gorgeous, my husband and son really enjoyed theirs too. We thought it was very reasonably priced and will definitely be going back! Queues out the door when we were leaving. Got some great pies from the shop.well done

When I'm in the area and fancy a good English Breakfast I have no hesitation in visiting this hidden gem. It may be slightly off the beaten track but will be full of surprises from the food for sale downstairs to the sheer quality of cooking upstairs in the café. To be critical it does take time to be served and table space is sometimes sparse but realistically this is not fast food. Its quality food cooked by people who care - hence the demand! I'm sure the management would like bigger premises to cope but in the meantime enjoy the wait as a better breakfast is very hard to come by.

Waited 10 mins to be served (it was very quiet) and then waited another 10 for a coffee to arrive. I ordered crumpets, which then arrived ten mins after that. From what I could hear the waitress saying to the kitchen staff, I think the kitchen staff had forgotten the order. The bill came to c. £7.50 which was overpriced for a coffee and crumpets. Shop downstairs is worth a visit, but again, that's massively overpriced.

A good place to meet up with friends for morning coffee or the excellent all day breakfast. I had the seafood salad for lunch which had the smoke house salmon and prawns, straight from the shop to the café, fresh and crisp. Happy and helpful waitresses. Plus the bonus of the shop below.

It's a loft conversion at the smokehouse. Up steep stairs. The food is home made but a 45 min wait for 2 salads is a push. The waitress was a breath of fresh air at the heart of the Cheshire "wives that lunch" belt .The food was good and the cafe busy. I love the one stop shop of car park gourmet food for sake and a nice lunch at one location though this is definitely not one for the kids!! 2 salads 2 wine 1 coffee£37

Both the shop and the café are lovely. The shop has a great selection of food and drinks and you could very easily spend a small fortune! The food in the cafe was also super tasty but the service really was slow. I don't mind a wait for good food but it really did take a long time and by the time it arrived, we were starting to feel frustrated. We would definitely give it another try though.

Sited at the Cheshire Smokehouse, a treasure trove of food and drink, the restaurant is sited above the shop. There appears to be no disabled access so this should be taken into account, the stairs are also fairly steep.Service is steady, so you need to be prepared for a wait, add some time to your expected visit length and you will be fine. The food is so worth the wait, locally sourced ingredients prepared with care and attention make the wait worthwhile, decent sized tables and good light help make the stop even better. We will be back. p.s. you get to the restaurant via the shop, this will prove to be a costly little journey as the food is truly wonderful and you will just take a pack of sweet black back bacon..and maybe some lamb chops and the pastrami looks good...ooh leg of lamb.. you get the picture!

We called into the small restaurant at the Cheshire Smokehouse for brunch. There is a good menu, we chose from the breakfast section - potato cakes with smoked salmon and poached eggs - it was delicious. Service was friendly and efficient throughout. There is a limited number of tables and it was very busy during lunchtime from about midday with people queuing to wait for tables as they became available.

Used to have breakfast here most Saturdays until about 5 years ago when family circumstances drew this particular pleasure to a close. A return yesterday was therefore a major thing for me, would it still be as high quality or had standards slipped? Well I had nothing to be worried out, everything was still top notch and I was greeted by Barbara and Jane like I'd never been away.I had the brunch, which is what I'd always had and my better half had the all day breakfast. Both were of excellent quality, I particularly liked the Stornoway black pudding which surprisingly was actually better than the Bury variety. Only criticism is that some quantities have gone down, there was always 2 half's of tomato and 2 large mushrooms these are both down to one each now making the large plates look a little empty. Still, toast was really good as was the sausages and smoked black bacon all of which came from the bakers and butchery on site. Finally I must say the coffee is some of the best I've had in the area and polished off a very large cafetiere of it without any hassle. Think my next visit will be a lot sooner than 5 years this time, I've got the bug again - bit more on the plate wouldn't go amiss though.......

Shop is amazing - staff are helpful and wine staff are very knowledgeable- however the cafe - it is the best. Ensure you have a scone & coffee - you will not be disappointed- it is so goooood. Well worth the visit just for coffee and cake. Suitable for business meetings (small 1-1) really comfortable- cannot recommend enough.

The thing about most ferment shop type places is you come away thinging "Did I really pay that much and was it really worth it"?In the case of The Smokehouse, yes, you pay top dollar but they sell premium quality food, fresh and cooked/processed, which are worth paying extra forIf you love food dive in and explore plus it's a great drive out to get there

Excellent midweek lunch, and though it can get busy and you have to wait, on this occasion a table was vacant. Simple unpretentious menu consisting of high quality locally-sourced ingredients means that standards are always high. One niggle is the time spent waiting for food to be prepared, even on a relatively quiet day. Staff very pleasant and suggested the chef prepared different potatoes from those appearing on the menu. Restaurant not a cheap option, but you get what you pay for. Shop downstairs a treasure trove of lovely foods. Irresistible!

Mid week visit to the Smokehouse. Do like the selection of food and wine here, great for a treat. Have also bought one of the beautiful owl carvings. Decided to try the café on this occasion. (Please note that it is very attractive but is up a number of steps so no use if you have mobility difficulties) Firstly it was VERY cold and we put our jackets back on, outside it was a lovely summer day. The lady serving did not have a smile for us and was not at all friendly. On leaving my elderly father politely said goodbye but was completely blanked!! My coffee had bits of coffee floating about in it and was luke warm. Won't be returning.

First visit to this shop and cafe/restaurant - it's not a big dining space but it's clean and comfortable. Our shared fish platter with a glass of superb Sicilian white wine was just the job for a quiet lunch on a 'wet' June afternoon. We'll be back !

When ever we decide where to go for lunch in the Cheshire countryside we always seem to end up here. The cafe is tiny so be prepared you may have to wait at busy times, but it's so worth it. Their fish platter is delicious. There is an extensive breakfast menu too. The staff are very friendly and helpful and will suggest changes if you don't like something. Also the shop on the ground floor is like an Aladdin's cave of gorgeousness, stocked with interesting products and just baked today bread, cakes and all things lovely...

We visited the smokehouse for the first time this week,it was very nice the food was good but we felt that the service was very slow, considering it wasn't that busy, and we only had cold food,I realise that everything is freshly prepared but still feel that a forty minute wait is excessive.the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable,we would go again but make sure that we had plenty of time.

This is a very popular venue and is always very busy. That's a good sign though. Either go very early, or leave it till the rush is over. If you cannot get a table straight away the shop is well stocked with lots of goodies to tickle your fancy, a lot of them home made! Our order was taken by the most cheerful waitress, who looked a little like Jo Brand, and seemed to have the same sense of humour. The service was prompt and very efficient, and 'Jo' made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. The soup was wholesome and hearty, and the mixed fish salad was lovely. All in all a very pleasant lunch, and well worth a visit, but remember it does get very busy. Enjoy!
