The Chequers Pub in Redbridge

I don’t know how many times I have looked to eat in my local pub only to be told the kitchen is closed. Every time I come in here - “sorry the kitchen is closed”. Its Friday night and there is at least 4 different parties in here looking at the menu - all being told the same thing - Sorry no food!?!? It’s a great pub and some of the staff are brilliant, but they are being let down by the management and the kitchen staff (if there are any?!?) The only time I did get to eat was because one of the bar staff took pity and went into the kitchen to cook it herself. The owners are missing a trick - losing so much money by not providing food. It’s also false advertising as the signs say kitchen open 10am until 9pm every day.. I was excited when The Chequers went under its latest refurb and was hoping it was going to provide the area with a much needed decent pub, with decent pub grub - but sadly it’s failed?!?!!

This is a nice pub with a much better menu than it used to have we only went in for a drink but the food looked nice and there were a few people eating my only small downer is that the wine is a bit expensive cheapest over £5 but anything decent was £6.30 for a medium glass

This pub has changed hands many times over the years and has re-opened under new management in March 2019 My wife and I decided to give support and tried the Sunday lunch. We were impressed.We were offered a choice of 5 meats and we both selected turkey. Service was quick and the plate looked attractive with good portions of meat and a nice variety of vegetables,roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings. Everything was cooked to our liking and we will come again. Not easy to find a traditional Sunday roast locally so this is a welcome addition. The owners need to raise the profile as online information is not available or current.The phone number given on the internet is disconnected. Now offers Sky Sports which was not available previously. We need to keep traditional pubs like this in difficult times so well worth a visit if you are in the area

Very nice food, great selection of drinks. Food portions were very good. HUGEEE yorkshire puds. Overall very happy and we will be back.

Called the venue before setting out as I wanted to watch the World Cup game. The guy said they had the football on and that it was reasonably quite which suited me. Arrived and ordered drinks from a very efficient Barman who also appeared to be the manager. Place was really clean and clientele appeared to be nice people. Saw some food come out the kitchen - mostly Piazza's - and that all looked quite good. Worth a visit if your in the area Guys! Enjoy!

Went for a meal with my partner and Daughter. The food was excellent value and plenty-full. They had an England game on but wherever you sat they had speakers so difficult to hold aconversation.

Looks like any other pub with a large dining area, bar and pool table. The menu has a good range of choices and offers a range of Sunday lunches. Also offers good vegan choices and dishes can be adapted to suit. Although there seems to be staff shortages at times, the staff work hard and make sure you are looked after. The food is always of a consistent quality and the prices are very reasonable. Not fine dining but good value for money food.

Ottima scelta di birre, locale molto gradevole (tra l'altro c'era una sorta di quiz comune con un animatore che "presentava" con un microfono) e personale cortese ed efficiente. Qui ho mangiato il mio primo Fish & chips... e sono rimasto contento (per quanto lo si possa essere del cibo inglese, ovvio). Una serata piacevole che consiglio a chi è nelle vicinanze.

We had a great birthday party at this pub, it's lovely and spacious so plenty of room for everyone. The buffet was very generous and all tastes were catered for. The manager, Matt, made a big effort to make sure our veggie/vegan guests were well catered for and everyone was very happy with the food, especially the vegan pizzas! The staff couldn't have been more helpful and it was a great night. This is my local so I can recommend this pub for a nice lunch, lovely dinner, good night out, whatever you want, its great! And the Sing song Club is the best band ever so you are guaranteed a good night when they are playing :)

We popped in for a drink and ended up having a great meal, staff were very friendly and professional, food was to die for !!! And the bill was reasonable!! Portion sizes are great especially if you are hungry!! Beers and real ales were excellent not to forget the wine!! And for someone who is very picky it was all excellent!!! Very very impressed will definitely be back soon!!!

What a lovely evening we had in the Chequers on New Years Eve, £11 a ticket with a really tasty buffet. Live music - sing-a-long - which was great fun. The atmosphere was great everyone mixed well together. The bar staff were rushed off their feet but were so efficient, smiled and were polite throughout. We will be back next year

Been using this pub for years. The decor is much improved from the Chequers of old. A pleasant and quiet environment to eat and drink. However, regularly runs out of beer and when they have beer, give short measures with too much froth.

First time we've been here even though I've driven past it for so many years!! We had a fantastic experience from the moment we walked in. The food was fresh and tasty, I had the veggie roast and everything was delicious. The staff were really welcoming and friendly, Gemma was brilliant. Great pub!

I have just held My Mums Wake here and it was absolutely perfect. There were 25 mourners and the service, food and care of the staff was brilliant. We were allocated a section of the pub and I can not fault the brilliant team for looking after us - so thank you Matt, Emma and Gemma for helping me at such a difficult time

hicken dinner was well presented and very tasty - lots of accompanying veg thrown in, generous portion and good value for a tenner. I was a little disappointed with my crab cake starter - quite tasty, but it seemed not to have been home-made. The staff were efficient and absolutely charming. The refurbishment a definite improvement and the atmosphereWent for Sunday lunch and was very pleasantly surprised by the roasts on offer. The c soothing and comfortable.

I came here with friends for Karaoke and had an amazing night. The specials on cocktails made me and my friends very happy.

Hadn't been in here for a while,so was pleasantly surprised to find it had been refurbished, to create a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere. It has a decent range of beers, I had the guest bitter, which was excellent. The menu had the usual pub fare,plus one or two dishes for anyone who fancied something a little different, the Sunday roast was superb, well cooked, and well presented, in fact the portions were so large the vegetables were served in a separate bowl, and had just the right amount of crunchiness.

Top place to eat, staff always friendly and helpful and the special nights are great. Can't keep away nom nom!

We popped in recently to have Sunday lunch, I have dietary needs at the moment so Matt did me a special meal. Had a lovely tuna salad with jacket potato the wife had the trio of meats with yorkshire pudding & a side dish of vegetables. As always the bar staff & kitchen staff very welcoming. The portions are a good size.

Brilliant pub, just what you want on the high street - great for morning coffee ( 11am ) , light lunch ( soup and a sandwich ) and evening meal.

Love coming here. Quiz night on the Monday with buy one get one free on pizza. Also the rest of the menu is dam tasty. The nachos with chilli beef are a meal on their own never mind as a starter. The staff are great and get to know you and what you like to drink and soon make you feel like a regular. The toilets are always clean which is always a bonus.

Our daughter recently moved close to The Chequers so we decided to check it out last weekend. The walls are decorated very cleverly with old 33/45 records, and beer mats and the toilets decorated with newspapers. Very different. We were just in for a drink which was fine. The Ale is limited but hubby chose one he quite liked and I had the rose blush which was also fine. There was a nice atmosphere even though it was quite empty. There were a couple sitting near us who had the Sunday roasts and they looked quite good, but maybe a little over cooked.

We live locally to this pub but have not visited since it changed hands. Having seen the other reviews, we decided to pop in and check it out at approx 7.30pm yesterday which was a Saturday night. There was a private party just getting started in part of the pub which was fine, but there was plenty of seating elsewhere where a few people were enjoying a drink.The staff seemed pleasant enough, but I noticed that all the cask beer handpumps had their signs reversed and when I enquired about the draft beer, I was told there was none.

Visit this pub most Sundays for a drink and do not know how they keep in business when there are so few people in there. Today there were more staff than visitors for a couple of hours at lunchtime. We used to frequent this pub before the refurbishment and it used to be extremely busy but now the new owners have tried to go 'up market' it has no atmosphere and all the previous customers have gone elsewhere.

Great place for a catch up and 2 4 1 cocktails on a Thursday. The food is tasty, in particular the pizzas. It's a cosy pub and the staff are really helpful and polite. Second time there now and would definitely keep going back!

This is a beautiful pub to drink in day or night! With a family and fun loving atmosphere.. This pub is ideal for any occasion! Weather it be a night out with the girls on a Sing Along (funny and fun you can't help but join in) or cocktail hour on a Thursday listening to an array of tunes! The staff are awesome and become friends from the minute you walk in to there amazing kitchen of fresh homemade food! This pub in general is a diamond in the rough a must visit ! And don't forget the steak Wednesday (to die for) ... And not forgetting the Sunday Roast! A must have in your life ... Your a fool not to visit it for a chilled pint or vino 10 out of 10 ❤️

Service could be more quicker to serve and with a smile.

We decided quite late to go out and jumped on a bus towards Barkingside. Saw the Chequers and went in, lovely place. Had a drink, then stayed for food as well

Lovely food and service. Waiter very friendly and helpful. Husband ordered pâté as started and it was amazing. Mine meal was tasty and portions generous. Would definitely go back for more.

This place has been completey turned around since the new owners took over in late 2015. Great higher-end 'gastropub' type food. Friendly locals. Regular events.

Navigating from Barkinside station to the main road & your met with this corner pub on the traffic lights junction

Had a party of 20+ people dining there. Booked the eating area and had table serve. The bar staff were very friendly. Only downside was that the mens toilets were there. The food was standard pub food.

This local pub is friendly with a relaxing atmosphere. We stopped in for a quick drink and ended up eating and drinking for almost 4 hours. Emma and Lucy are wonderful hostesses

Very nice pub and laid back atmosphere, a warm welcome and know what your drinking and good selection. Mondays and Wednesdays is good value with 2/1 on pizzas and 2 steaks and a drink for £20. Books and games for familys and Fridays and Saturdays is light entertainment.

Stopped here for a drink and walked into a very friendly, chilled out pub, with great staff and a fun karaoke session which seemed to involve most of the pub. It was in no way rowdy, but incredible fun, in fact I didn't want to leave. The guy in the corner on the tambourine was an absolute legend. I can't wait to come back here again, I will definitely be stopping for longer next time.

Had a lovely lunch today (13.2.17) with my mum. She had fish and chips which she said was lovely. I had the goats cheese sandwich (bread lovely and fresh). Lady behind the bar was on her own and was very friendly and we didn't wait very long for service. It's only a short walk from my mum's so when I visit her again we shall come for lunch again.

Popped in for an evening drink with my wife. As you enter, you notice how light and spacious this pub is. A good selection of seating areas whether you want a cosy table for two, a large communal table or comfy sofas.

Just visited on the Tuesday steak night where you can have 2 steak meals and 2 drinks for £20.00. The steak was well cooked and great quality. Definitely one of the best steaks I've had in a long while. Certainly shall return again.

this pub has it all, if you just want a quick coffee, light lunch, full lunch, large dinner, whatever you need it's covered. Great staff, friendly atmosphere and live music every Friday, its a perfect local! This is the best pub in the area by a long way, with lots of seasonal activities thrown in as well, give it a go!

We went to the Chequers yesterday and it is a pub transformed. Good food, friendly staff, a good selection of drinks and lovely décor. Family friendly too. It's a lovely, relaxed pub and a pleasure to visit now. If you were familiar with the old Chequers then forget all about that and give the new version a try. Highly recommended - we'll be back!

Lovely pub, perfect place to unwind and relax. The decor was stylish, modern chic. Food was very good with plenty of options for vegetarians. Will definitely be making a return

Popped in for dinner and was not disappointed. We had the wedges to start ! Omg ! Loads of flavour and not a small portion either.

It was our first visit and we had our dog with us. We sat in the pleasant outside area and one of the staff kindly bought out a bowl of water for our dog. We didn't ask, this was offered. We enjoyed a really lovely, reasonably priced lunch from a menu which was quite extensive. It took us quite a while to make our choices, as there was so much to tempt us! We did look at the interior of the pub, which has been refurbished recently and it looks great. Have already recommended The Chequers to several friends, and we will definitely be visiting again, with family in tow.

We have had Sunday lunch in here twice, & was not disappointing, the Meats were lovely, The Yorkshire puddings large, Potatoes & veg varied. Really nice surroundings Nice staff & very helpful. Around £10-£13. Give it a try.

Just popped in to our local pub for a Sunday lunch. Wow - what a surprise. The pub had a major refurb last year and is completely different with a delightful chilled atmosphere and amazing food. Totally tasty and will definitely be returning. Highly recommended to anyone in the area.

Looked promising going in - it's very spacious and the new decor is bright, clean and welcoming. The furniture however is very mismatched, giving the impression that it's just random pieces thrown together.

Fabulous food, fantastic service, reasonably priced. Go here with my two boys. They love playing the board games on offer. They always tend to choose the roast and it never fails to disappoint. We always choose to go to Chequers for an event. Definitely visit if you can.

The food was superb, everyone really enjoyed the meal. The weather was very hot, and they were able to open the doors and make the place cool. The atmosphere was great and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

Come here whenever I come to visit a local friend, and have always had really delicious food. The Sunday roast is one of the best I've had, twice! Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and it's a really relaxed atmosphere, and they're child friendly too.

I am thrilled to have a clean, bright, nicely decorated pub in the area. It is a pleasure to walk in there and spend some time with a friend, reading a book, or playing cards. Barkingside can be a little depressing but the newly refurbed Chequers is a beacon. We've also been for the Monday night 2-for-1 pizza deal which is fun. I would love to see this place get the support it deserves.

Used to be dirty local boozer, shame it had to change, but it needed to. Now it's clean, good music, nice staff, good food, more like a cafe than a pub.

Just had a Wonderful home cooked Sunday lunch. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, lovely food. Will definitely be returning. Great choice in the menu and not a frozen spud in sight.

Just visited the revamped pub and found it to be very roomy and comfortable. Food on the menu seemed very varied. We had the roast dinner which was very tasty and plentiful. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Prices seemed higher than your normal pub prices but couldn't fault the quality and quantity . Not sure how busy it normally gets but on this Sunday afternoon there were about 10 customers. Music choice was pre war jazz which seemed a bit odd. Worth a visit if your passing .

Forget the old chequers pub it's now been re-vamped into a lovely place to go for a drink and something to eat. The staff are all really nice and friendly they really make you feel welcome. The whole place has had a fantastic make over so you'll be surprised when you walk in they've made the place look fantastic.

This pub was refurbished about six months ago and although it needed a makeover it now has no atmosphere and the regular clientele have moved elsewhere. It was quite tatty but a "local" and now the new owners have changed it entirely and tried to make it more upmarket but if they had done their homework this is not what was needed in the area and they have probably realised that by the number of people using it.
