A fabulous meal. Regular check-ins with the owner/Chef. Garlic prawns to start then John Dory as a main. Make sure you book and arrive hungry. Great food, atmosphere and service.

Amazing food. The owner is an amazing person. Both him and his staff are very friendly. It's a dog friendly place with a nice little field for them to play on.

I don't really want to share just how good this place is - in case I help give it the popularity it deserves, and end up not being able to get a table next time I want to go there.

We were just there 30 min ago on the off chance of a nice meal no Tv not shouting matches ,I mus say Loui you are a star ,made us feel so comfortable and the food. Well it was fantastic, not bad price either ,but I highly recommend this place,the people we met there made us feel like friends ,thank you ,See you for Sunday roast Loui .... Steve

Absolutely fantastic. Classic, fresh, piping hot and totally delicious.

It's worth noting that the pub has been under completely new ownership since late 2023, so earlier reviews don't reflect the current owner. The Chequers is a really surprising find, fantastic seafood in particular and ambience and a larger-than-life host in Louis. You won't find anything else like it in the area, definitely worth a try. It's situated in the quiet hamlet of Hall End, there is plenty of parking outside this characterful building, or it's a short walk from Wootton.

The most amazing experience, food and host! This is a hidden gem and Louie the chef and owner is absolutely incredible. We were only in the UK for 4 days but we spent 3 of them here having his Sunday roast one day oysters another and his incredible lemon posset on another. We have never had a roast dinner or yorkshire pudding like it. The ambiance is so beautiful and interesting, he has done an amazing transformation. Our only regret is that we wish we lived there to frequent his delectable food and very rare to find extremely warm welcoming generosity. We won't forget our visit and can't wait to be back. Come to Canada Louie we need The Chequers here!

Walked in on a walk through the area. Louis was a fantastic host and it was lovely to sit and chat with him and other patrons. Had a good laugh and will be back for food in the future! Would definitely recommend!

An awesome place with same looks and atmosphere. Superb food done by chef Louis, great and funny host, offering advice on food and drinks in style. Our T-bone steak was massive, with mushroom sauce, veggies and french fries was more than enough for 2. Place was full of friendly people who actually talk to each other and not staring at their phones. I'll be back for sure, merci!

Since finding this hidden gem, we have dined many times. We take fruends and family to be Louis'd. The food is marvellous and Louis as a host is a worthwhile experience. This is not pb fayre but fine dining quality.

What an absolute treat! The food cooked by Louis himself is absolutely gorgeous. Fresh ingredients and amazing portion sizes. The pub itself has had a great refurb and we loved all of the plates on the wall, there was so much to look at. We sat at our table by the open fire and chatted all night long. Louis and his staff were very attentive and made us feel so welcome. Thank you! Can't wait to try the Sunday roast next.

Best food I've ever had. Every meal was cooked to perfection and the atmosphere is superb.

Probably the best steak I've ever eaten, we couldn't believe how incredible the food is and it's on our door step, winning! Louis the new owner has worked wonders with the place, honestly a real gem of a pub.

Great relaxed atmosphere, nice beer, and a really friendly chap behind the bar. Worth a visit for sure.

Pub is open under new management. Refurbishment is ongoing but what has been done so far it is extremely nice. Currently open for drinks, some rather excellent looking food will follow in due course. It's adults only in the bar and back garden but children are welcome in the front garden.

Just for completeness, The Chequers Inn in Wootton is currently closed and a large sign informs that the lease is for sale.

Afternoon lunch. Very nice. Lasagne for my friend and red pepper and tomato soup for me.

Just been for Sunday lunch and was really pleased with service and food .after trying several times to book at dt times and could not get an answer we were happy with it all will definitely be back thankyou

It's a shame but have to leave a less than satisfactory review. Seated in an empty restaurant and then waited 45 minutes for starters?? Nachos and prawn cocktail- failed to see how it took so long! Had to ask where it was and then appeared straightaway... can't help but feel it was sitting out waiting as nachos were cold. Burgers came soon after and while they were nice the chips were mediocre. Reasonably priced and the staff were nice but will not be returning

Have eaten here twice in as many weeks. First was a cocktail and tapas night and last night we had fish and chips. Both evenings the food was very tasty and well cooked. In fact the best fish and chips we have had in a very long time. The staff are really friendly and the pub has a decent selection of drinks. Nice atmosphere and lovely outdoor space too. Top pub in the village.

Lovely quiet pub with shady garden and pleasant ambiance

What a hidden gem this is. If you are looking for a calm, quiet and friendly Pub... then this is the place! Tasty food and a lovely setting, this pub will now be my new local after searching for 3 years in the village. The staff are attentive, caring and passionate. After a few tough years for ALL hospitality, this place is rising like a phoenix from the ashes. Great for couples, families, lone rangers, children's and even dogs. Ive popped in here a few times after and during work and our whole family have fell in love with this pub and its outside spaces and it's rural location. Give this place a chance and you will not be disappointed. :)

What a fabulous place this is. Tasty food, lovely desserts, and caring and attentive staff. I had a nice chat with another customer too - such a nice friendly place. And I adored my personal hand written dessert menu too - I can recommend the apple pie!

If you fancy a nice pint of real ale then head to the Chequers and be served by a friendly member of staff. You can enjoy it in the bar that retains the traditional English pub atmosphere or sit outside in the front or back garden areas.

Sorry, but i have to leave a negative review. We had a table booked for 8 people for 3pm, all arrived on time. It took an hour and a half for the first meal to arrive, the meat was dried out and the vegetables were cold. They produced 5 inedible meals then advised they had run out of potatoes and parsnips but would cook more, in the meantime they had plated the food that was available and left it on the counter, also they did not have enough beef to fulfill the orders. So 2 people on 1 table and 1 person on another table were not served. The 5 who were served could not eat the food anyway. There was no management or anyone in charge. It was total chaos and embarrassing. The staff were very apologetic but totally inexperienced. The 8 of us left unfed and disappointed.

Great little pub tucked away on the back road

Not impressed. I booked a table for 4 two days ago for lunch today our first visit. Arrived and the restaurant door was locked. Someone opened it and said they weren't doing food as " she's going to a meeting I'll go and speak to her" . The poor girl behind the bar said she remembered her colleague taking a booking but the diary page was blank with not even a mention of no meals being served. After about 5 minutes we said we'd go somewhere else. Not exactly the warm welcome we anticipated. One star is generous .

We recently had our wedding at The Chequers Inn and we can't praise it enough. Apart from the beautiful surroundings, Lianne and Clara and the staff went above and beyond and made our day amazing. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great, we can't thank them enough and would definitely recommend it. 😄😄😄😄😄😄

A lovely Sunday Roast! We visited the Chequers Inn to try their Sunday Carvery and although it is set in a very compact area there was enough room to move around. The welcome was warm and friendly and this service continued throughout the meal. My husband had Roast beef with all the trimmings, while me and my Mum had some Turkey and Gammon again with yorkshires veg, sauces, gravy everything we could have wanted. All the food was very tasty. We also had desserts which were delicious! Altogether a very enjoyable Sunday Carvery and I would reccomend it.

Was my uncles wedding reception and the inn is an amazing place really nice inside and out still keeping its original old feel with some modern touches. Family run and all the staff were great made everyone so welcome and went out there way to make the day exceptionally enjoyable. The meal they put on was really tasty and plentiful. Would defo recommend it if you are ever in the area..

Probably the best carvery I have had for a very, very long time. Absolutely perfect roast potatoes and a choice of beef, gammon or turkey. Finished off with a delicious sticky toffee pudding. Will definitely be back again!

Bit pricey , ham egg and chip's and a pint of soader and lime £8.40.that was the cheapest. Nowt special about the place, grubby paint work. Very basic.

A very friendly and welcoming country pub. We stopped by for dinner and had the Rancho burgers with home made coleslaw. Really good home made tasty food. The service was excellent and friendly as you would want from a village pub. Also very good for a beer in the bar, lovely place to visit and they are dog friendly in the bar area too :)

Such a lovely pub! Great service and amazing food! My family loves this place, we have had a Sunday lunch a few times and it's just perfect! We had our Grandmas 80th birthday lunch here with all the family today and the service was amazing as always, the food from Leanne was just so good! Highly recommend!!

Great family run pub, wonderful food, drinks are best price in the area, beer well looked after and a good choice of ales and an all round great atmosphere. If only all pubs could be run this way, it's like being at home.

Lovely pizza, brilliant roast and friendly staff

My 30th birthday party was hosted at this lovely old fashioned public house, my fiancee arranged for 18 of us to have dinner through emails to the staff who couldn't have been more helpful. Menus were emailed out and food was selected before the night due to being a large party. On the night we arrived and were shown into our own area with its own bar, staff had placed pictures on the tables which had been posted up before the night. The staff were completely flexible with when we wanted dinner and were completely attentive for drinks etc throughout. Dinner was served on time and all 18 meals arrived piping hot which was extremely impressive! I had the burger as did many others and at the end we all wanted to know the recipe because it was bloody lovely!!! Nobody had a single complaint for the food, 2 of our guests were gluten free and they were extremely happy with there dinner and desert. The food and drinks were reasonably priced and honestly the staff couldn't have done enough. I honestly couldn't have hoped for a better night and my friends and family were singing the staff's praises for days afterwards.

Great food, excellent value, really friendly and helpful. Traditional in the real sense, no corporate mediocraty here all home cooked food done well. Cannot recommend enough. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Sunday 2nd April. Had a family meal for 18 of us, sat in conservatory - was lovely day and we had the doors open to the garden. Food was fab and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the meal. All the staff were very friendly , definitely go again.

Food was outstanding, Best carvery I've had. They even gave us a bowl for the baby - nice touch!!! The staff were very welcoming and very friendly ~ highly recommend going there for a Carvery!

Family run pub. Hospitable with good service. I haven't eaten at the pub.
