Travelled to the Surrey Hills and The Chequers came highly recommended - I can see why. Superba. The location and setting are brilliant and selection of drinks first class. We had the Sunday lunch which was super yummy and great value. Will be back.

Met up witha large group of Friends (40 or so covers ) at the chequers for Sunday lunch. The food was top notch, the staff were inviting and helpful and the whole service ran like clockwork. All in all, a great place to eat and relax with your friends. I’ll definitely be back.

Another warm welcome from Jo and Nick at The Chequers. The team managed our large group of hungry cyclists with ease. Food and drink 5 stars. Great value for a huge Sunday lunch. Can’t wait to come back.

Very welcoming and friendly staff that always seemed happy and to be enjoying their work. The food was delicious, arrived hot and looked as good as it tasted. A lovely outdoor area was a perfect place to sit and enjoy a drink before we went inside for food. If you're thinking about visiting/eating here I would highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.

UPDATED. Was in the area with friends on Friday and 7 of us booked a table for a meal. We noticed one thing has changed. In the 8 months since I’ve been they have improved. The fish cakes and poached egg were great. A nice alternative to fish and chips which was also there and one of our party had for the first time. What a win for them to try fish and chips from the Chequers. Nick is still the landlord. He still looks after everyone and is staff follow his great lead. Don’t miss it if you are nearby….. Just been for Sunday lunch. Great food and the land lord is one of the friendliest. All the staff go out of their way to look after you. Recommended and a revisit is on the cards very soon.

Second time back and was just as good as the first visit earlier this year. Food and service was top notch & friendly - very impressive considering how many people were in this Sunday. The beef roast was piping hot & delicious, and the sticky toffee pudding was to die for. The pub itself is great - large, great seating options both inside and outside with some lovely outdoor cabins & tables. Free parking too & lots of spaces. Nice range of beers & wines. Will 100% be going back when in the area next!

We met some friends at the chequers for Sunday roast, the pub is great with a fantastic large garden and plenty of seating both inside and out, the staff are really friendly and provide excellent customer service. We both went for the roast pork with crackling, veg, roast partakes and Yorkshire pudding. It was delicious and a very generous serving, there is also an excellent selection of beers and wines.

Here for a Sunday lunch with a big group. Nick and his team smashed it out of the park. Efficient, friendly and excellent food. (Roast beef tender and delicious 😋) . Recommended!

Mmm mmm mmm, what can I say... After dining here two weeks ago with my wife and being thoroughly impressed, we decided to return with friends—and both visits exceeded expectations. The staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, and well-organised. The roast dinner was fantastic on both occasions, and this dog-friendly spot even offers free treats at the bar for your four legged friend. I would highly recommend this venue if you're in the area.

We had a great Sunday Roast here with a large (40+) and yet the food and service was superb , great quality and generous portions (rare to have both) It’s a lovely location and super pub garden. Will be back !

The Chequers is a lovely English pub. The food is amazing and the service is just lovely. I can highly recommend the burger. On a seven day trip to Epsom and after two visits already I'll definitely go for a third one!

The girls serving were brilliant but that’s probably the only positive. The Cote de Bouef was bland, fatty and cold. Tough potatoes. Poor veg portions. Underwhelming. Starters, didn’t bother. The 80’s want their menu back. No specials board as always used to be. The BIGGEST problem is the cat who roams around all the tables begging, if you’re in the garden and a table is left unattended, he’ll be up there in a flash. Unhygienic and utterly grim. Not sure what this new parking barrier is? Always used to be a favourite but we will not be returning nor recommending.

We had an enjoyable family dinner at Chequers on Saturday. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was enjoyable. Good size portions and well presented. Always a few little personal taste issues - white bait in the caeser salad/non crispy fat on the pork belly bites, but aside from these thank you for the relaxing evening which also was good value for money.

I hadn’t been to chequers for a few years, but was very impressed yesterday having taken overseas visitors for Sunday lunch. Food was excellent and plentiful. We received super service from Alice and the team of hard working staff.

Lovely pub and restaurant!! Clean, dog-friendly, nice decor and spacious outdoor seating area. The staff were amazing - impeccable service. Went in wanting just a spot of lunch and ended up having a full-on three course meal because the menu looked so good. I had the pork belly bites to start. There is no other way to describe them, they were simply little cubes of joy. Our table got through 4 plates of these, they were that good! I went for the chicken schnitzel for the main course, asked if I could swap out the jersey royals for fries which they were more than happy to do. The fries were top notch, the chicken served on a bed of leeks sautéed to perfection. I have to give the main a 9.5 - a lemon wedge on the side would have elevated this dish to flawlessness. I initially wasn't going to have dessert but when I saw that they did pecan pie with honeycomb ice cream, I was sold and it did not disappoint. Overall, really enjoyed my visit and will 100% be going back when I am next in the area.

Top notch pub grub, in a beautiful village pub, with great gardens at the front & rear. Service was friendly & relaxed. Food was cooked to perfection, I had the calves liver with veg/mash which was wonderful. Pork belly bites for starters was also lovely and the sticky toffee pudding finished it off nicely. 100% recommended.

Had a delicious meal here yesterday. Topped off my tasty Schnitzel dish with a to-die-for sticky toffee pud and the best glass of Rose I've had in a long time. Superb service from friendly staff, cosy atmosphere, beautiful courtyard garden - can't wait to go back!

God food but a little pricey for a village pub

Last year in June I had a few pints at the Chequers when i visited an old school mate, enjoyable visit, even the toilets were a pleasure to use, an overall memorable visit.

My partner and I love the Chequers. The staff are very friendly and welcoming to us and our puppy. The food is delicious, and they pour a great pint. And on top of that, they have one of the best beer gardens you will ever see! Definitely worth a visit

The lovely landlady managed to get me a table for Fathers Day pretty last minute which we were so grateful for... we arrived and our table was ready for us immediately and we had plenty of space around us which was nice. Our waiter was amazing, attentive, funny and made sure our orders were exactly as we had asked before sending them into the kitchen. The food was of a high quality and I would definitely come again. The background music was great... and not too loud... brought back some memories and Shazamed a few. Lastly... Service charge is at your own discretion which I love. I always tip but hate it when it's expected.

Came for a stag do saturday afternoon ( 15th June ) Food was amazing, service was great from Finn, football was on the TV overall a great atmosphere, will be coming back in the future

Came last Friday for a meal with friends leisurely looked at the menu to see wat sort of food you do food looked good but when get the menu when we arrived alot of the stuff wasn't on there I had fish chips there was too many chips should of been fries not fat chips my fish was overcooked my mushy peas weren't green they were cold and hard my husband had the chicken snitzel that was served with new potatoes but asked if they could change the potatoes to More veg they gave him cabbage and leaks with a bit of garlic didn't really look alot for the price was quite busy when we arrived the tables weren't set for dining

I found The Chequers whilst doing a Google search for somewhere to eat on a Sunday night as the kitchen of most nearby restaurants tend to close early. From the moment we entered and were warmly welcomed, I knew this was going to be a good experience. Because it was a nice sunny evening, we selected a table outside. We had been asked to order at the bar but if we had eaten inside we would’ve had full table service. Our food came out promptly and everything that we ordered was well cooked and nicely presented.

Well worth a visit, staff are all lovely and very friendly. Lovely for a winter drink and meal by the fire, but also lovely for a summer drink either out the front or back.

What a lovely place this is! A huge pub with lot's of little spaces that you could get lost in. The staff were very friendly and lovely. Food was delicious and the service was absolutely spot on. It was a beautiful summer's day and we sat out in the back garden which had plenty of parasols and spaces in the shade, but we chose to sit in the sun! On our way out, later we noticed that the sun had moved onto the front patio which was equally as nice with plenty of comfy sofas and furniture. A special mention to Jo who looked after us during our visit! We will be back.

Pleasant Sunday lunch. Nice atmosphere and good service. Had the roast pork which was well cooked and good size portions BUT had run out of apple sauce - unforgivable I’m afraid. Had I known before the food was served I would have ordered beef! My dinner partner wanted the fish and chips but they had run out which was a disappointment. Worth a second chance at a future date.

Visited 24/4/24. Fantastic service, all the staff including the manager were friendly, professional, helpful. Jo went the extra mile from start to finish, she couldn’t do enough for us. First rate Yorkshire pudding , but the roast lamb was tough and tasteless and expensive... £24 for very little meat. Another of our group could not eat the children's meal of chicken Milanese as it was overcooked and burnt around the edges. I did wonder if the chef thought children would not complain. Service was excellent and my friend wasn't charged for her meal when she complaabout it being inedible to the waitress.

Had a booking for Easter lunch and we were very impressed with the food, ambience and the level of service we received was outstanding! Liam and Brianna were consistently attentive to our needs without feeling like they were hovering around our table. As for the food, I honestly believe you will not find a better roast anywhere else. The food was succulent as full of flavour. We will absolutely be coming back to The Chequers!

Thank you so much to all of the staff at the Chequers, Jo and Lilli in particular, for ensuring that my father's wake went smoothly and seamlessly. From the moment we walked into the Chequers, the atmosphere was warm and friendly. The location is fantastic, with lots of parking on site, beautiful rooms and open fires inside and wonderful outdoor space too. The food was all homemade and delicious and the Chequers team was very accommodating with all of our advance requests for food, responding promptly to any messages, and being helpful with suggestions as to the amount of food to order. They also showed a photo slideshow on their TV for us. It was helpful that so many of the arrangements could be done via email. Can't thank you all enough for taking care of everything which really helped to ease the pressure on such a difficult day for our family.

Attended a family wake, catered with shared bar food - sausage roll, Scotch eggs, sandwiches, chips. The food was all home made, and excellent quality, the sandwiches thick and hearty and the bread crusty. The staff were highly attentive and empathetic. Highly recommended. Many thanks.

Amazing food! Friendly, patient staff and just a lovely atmosphere.

Cracking food, had the chicken schnitzel and it was a definitely one of the best meals I've had out in a pub. Went with our dog and staff were really accommodating and attentive to working around her. We ate in one of the huts in the garden and it's such a lovely setup.

We stopped in here at around 4:30pm on a weekday for a late lunch. The kitchen stays open from midday so we were able to get something to eat. The woman behind the bar was very friendly and the pub was really clean and had a lovely decor. The menu is quite pricey for a pub - most main meals are between £15-20, but we couldn’t fault the food. I had the fish and chips and it was hands down the best pub fish and chips I’ve ever had. Really crisp batter, the homemade curry sauce was a real highlight and the chips were chunky and really crisp. My partner had the chicken pie with cheesy mash and he had only good things to say. So, a bit expensive, but you do get what you pay for, everything is clearly high quality and freshly made. Great service, and we took our leftovers home in a box as the fish and chips portion was ample!

Lovely village pub, modern but still has a traditional country pub feel. The garden area is stunning. The staff are welcoming and attentive without being over bearing. Great choice of food including vegan/veggie dishes, and always tastes delicious and fresh. The best thing too is that it’s dog friendly - definitely my favourite local pub for a dog walk and dinner/drink. Always recommend Gaynor

We had a family function with over 30 guests at the Chequers. We preordered the food, which was excellent, from the sharing board menu. They also have a very good selection of drinks including non alcoholic drinks. The service was also excellent, the staff were ever so friendly, helpful, and attentive. They made us feel welcome We would not hesitate to come back.

Visited here a few times. Mainly because my partner has been coming for a long time for food and drinks, with family. Staff are fine, I feel they were working within guidelines. A pub should have an atmosphere. This should be supported either by a well organised system, or a landlord/manager who gives the place a personal touch. The latter point makes up for any minor errors, usually with a bit of wit and banter. I felt the Chequers has neither. The place was not unpleasant, but any means. For the prices, however, it really should offer something more memorable than “not unpleasant”. The food and drink can be found in most other pubs, for lower or similar prices.

Myself, one year old daughter, mum, brother, grandparents visited today (Saturday 10th February ‘24) between 12pm -13:30pm. The food tasted nice, but the portions for the price were DAFT. I got 14 chips with my burger, mum and I shared as we couldn’t justify over £32 on two burgers. My brother had to sit on the floor, my grandma and grandad (both with disabilities) found it difficult eating from such a low table. We were put on a low table not suitable for dining as they said they were at max capacity. I appreciate we didn’t book but the pub was empty. Two tables filled up while we were there, the table pictured behind us and a few others the other side of the pub remained empty the whole time we were there. When I was a kid the Chequers was my favourite pub, I loved the staff and the feel of the place. Now it’s turned pretentious and unwelcoming. I’ve been coming here all my life, I won’t be returning after the way we were dealt with today.

Once arriving at our table the hostess said to us that my seven year old girls were “creepy” because they were twins and then went on saying how “spooky” they are. Once she walked away this ruined our late lunch and upset me as my girls had to hear this. Luckily my wife calmed me down and told me not to say anything as it’s just going to make the situation worse. I think the older staff need educating to being aware of what comes out of their mouth.

Food was average. Visited on a Sunday at 4pm. Huge Yorkshire pudding, however small portion of Roast beef, which was rather tough, and sides were £5+ which were again quite small. Pudding (Sticky Toffee pudding) was delicious. Staff were not overly attentive, however bar areas was busy. 12.5% discretionary service charge is a bit expensive.

Fantastic Sunday lunch and atmosphere on a visit with a large group of friends after a cycle ride around the Surrey Hills. Food quality was first class, service excellent and nice selection of beers from the bar. Will return again to enjoy the hospitality from Nick and Jo.

Been going to this pub for many years and have always loved the atmosphere. There have been a few changes in management but the new landlord seems very keen to improve an already good pub. He is off to a great start!

Went there for our works Christmas lunch, which was provided by great service in a lovely atmosphere but I must say the food wasn't great. Maybe because we ordered from a set menu as I've eaten here many times before and the food is usually very good.
