Halt & Pull in Reigate and Banstead

Nice place the staff were friendly and I was served by a young lady called maleeka she was so friendly and welcoming. I heard the way her supervisor spoke to her it was horrible he spoke down to her ordering her to do things in front of customers she did not deserve to be spoken or treated that way. The supervisor or manager called Jon was not nice, he needs to treat his staff with more respect as respect works both ways. He was very unprofessional and disgusting speaking to a young girl that way who was just doing her job. I asked if she was ok but I know she wasn't she was embarrassed by the supervisor shouting at her for no apparent reason it was uncalled for I would hate to work with a person like him It seems his position is getting to his head. He needs more training on how to treat all staff with respect and equality. Great service from Maleeka as always.

They put on a wake for us, really lovely staff, food was superb, made a stressful sad day better.

You come here, park, eat (food was so so, by tge way) and then receive parking penalty. Noone tells you the car park is paid, I haven't seen this at any pub. No signage, no help to cancel the penalty - clearly its a trick they explore (just look at their reviews where the parking is mentioned) - this is probably why they are the only not busy pub around.

We received a parking penalty 1 week after we visited this place for leaving our car at their carpark. No help offered to cancel it, no signage, no warnings... At the carpark itself there is no signage or paying machines. Poor service too. See what others write about this... Avoid.

From California, my girlfriend and I wanted a solid early lunch so we went in a little after opening. Was greeted by mileeka and she was extremely helpful and kind. Also, was playing some vibeful music to go with our drinks and food. Besides the good atmosphere and bartending, the food was absolutely phenomenal. I got the fish and chips and my lady got the steak and frites with peppercorn gravy... To say the least, everything was tremendous! Sadly we leave tomorrow, but could be back tonight. Cheers from the bay area.

Halt and Pull has truly become my go-to spot! The food is consistently fantastic, and Terry and George's attentive service adds a special touch. The diverse drink choices and the overall inviting atmosphere make every visit a delightful experience. Highly recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Service was cheery and welcoming on an otherwise dreary Monday. The fish and chips were bang on, presented beautifully. My wife had the burger which she raved about.

Lovely place. It feels cosy in the winters but it’s nice and spacious so not stuffy. Quick seating, attentive staff, good prices, yummy food and good portions. There is also outdoor seating and parking out the back. Really nice place

Absolutely wonderful dining experience. My wife and I came in on a Sunday night, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, the service was quick, and the food was delicious. This was our last dinner that we ate in the UK and it did not disappoint.

We booked a table for 5:30pm at the Halt & Pull on 6/19/24. We were seated right away and the staff were all very welcoming. The menu had a good variety of options and a fantastic selection of drinks. It's a dog-friendly pub. The prices were reasonable, the food was tasty, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere was fantastic. A perfect place to grab a drink and a meal with friends.

Deserted on fathers day only 1 other table occupied. Slow service .. food was OK. Bangers and mash fish and chips pork ribs or burgers .

Oh this restaurant got me drooling of its amazing cuisines, I couldn’t help to try the Sunday roast which was so amazing. I will always come back here and recommend it always for anyone and it’s such a chill place to relax too… thanks to my good host Mr John.

My experience at Halt & Pull was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived until I left, I felt welcomed and pampered by the food and the service.

The staffs are attentive and friendly, making sure that all guests feel welcome and well-cared-for.

Edit to previous review after change of management. Focus of the place has altered completely and is no longer a family oriented gastro pub. It now tries to cater to volume and students. Nothing wrong with that in principle but if I wanted a student pub, I'd go to one. Last I was there, there were kids taking drugs in the bathroom and starting fights in the bar, not my scene.

Read reviews expecting good things. Walked with our dogs to sit outside and eat was such a lovely evening. Long table full of what looked liked young people just reached drinking age. Playing their own music, a couple evey other word was a swear word. They then started wrestling next to our table . Staff in and out so aware of them. More than them just having a great evening when it interferes with our meal. Got up to leave a young lady from the group came over to apologise to us. What happened to everyone being able to enjoy their evening. Positive, food very nice and reasonably priced. Won't be returning.

Had a layover at Gatwick on route back to Canada and stopped into this great pub for dinner. Food was great pub fare, enjoyed great service and the establishment had a wonderful atmosphere that is authentic and friendly. Highly recommend this place if ever you’re in Horley.

This place has a huge identity crisis; what ought to be a traditional inn in an historic building is instead a weird effort to try and create a modern cocktail bar/restaurant in what was always a pub. As a result, the atmosphere is almost non-existent. There is so much potential for this place to be a Horley treasure but it seems to have completely gone to waste. They could at least offer some cask ale to match the sign outside (currently it is ice-cold keg beer or nothing).

Bit weird as I see a lot of good reviews but our experience had been far from positive. We visited the restaurant on a Sunday at lunchtime and were surprised to see a place almost empty. The waiter told us on arrival that the roast was not available due to shortage of food. But we needed to eat, so we stayed. I chose the wild mushroom ravioli and after a long wait, got served with burnt pasta and the mushrooms were burnt dry sticks. Probably dehydrated ones badly cooked. After dinner, my 2year old needed the loos so I entered the hotel lobby where the disabled toilets were indicated. As I opened the door, I got sent back by a very rude security man. We ended up in a tiny (dirty) cubicle in the women’s bathroom and held my child above the toilets in a space for just only one person to be. Needless to say it was not a good experience for either of us. On top of it, we received today a parking fine! I wished it was a bit clearer (I guess we’re not used to pay a restaurant car park) or to be told about it by the staff who were nice btw. Again, we may have come on an unusual day/situation but I would absolutely not recommend this place.

It was a pleasure. The staff were spot on. The food was well portioned and excellent. It's a great place to eat the drinks priced just right. Well worth a 20% tip.

Great atmosphere with very friendly staff

We went to this place to get some food on the way home from Gatwick. The food was a bit slow in coming and not really gastropub food, but done well for pub classics. The staff were very friendly and helpful. However, the atmosphere was strange. It was almost empty at 1.15 on a Sunday lunch time (a few tables came in later). We thought something was odd as soon as we got in there, but we were hungry and wanted food. On the way out we realised that the pub is attached to a hotel (at the back) which has been taken over by the government for housing. There were security men in the hotel lobby. As we left we saw a couple of characters hanging around, one doing something furtively in a corner of the car park with his hands down his trousers, another without a shirt. I felt bad for whoever runs the pub, but we won’t be going back!

This is fast becoming my favourite pub

Staff were AMAZING even though they were Short staffed on nye. Food was fabulous and beautifully presented and hot. However I was not impressed to find a young male loitering in the ladies toilet ( I’d just come out of a cubicle). Spoke to the security who are in charge of the migrants staying at the hotel, who didn’t seem to be at all interested in my concern. Luckily another dad who was with his young child, also raised the issue.

Nice friendly staff. Food is average, drinks 🍸 accommodating , what I missed most is the music 🎶 they don't have nice music at all ... 2 out of 10 on music 🎶

Things have improved from my visit shortly after the reopening. We had a Christmas meal there and i thought the food was pretty good value and the staff were friendly and quick with the service.

Visiting the area from Canada and had a nice lunch here on September 11, 2023. Imagine my surprise when I received a parking bill in the mail for 100 pounds. Don't recall seeing any information about parking charges at this pub which is part of a large chain hotel. Don't think I will pay this bill. Ridiculous charge for parking while having a meal.

Food was good. Toilets were clean. The pub has clearly had a super refurbishment but the weather had changed and it was really cold so missed that cosy warm feel. The chap at the bar seemed to be on his own so service was a little lacking but a nice friendly chap.

The food was so delicious!! We were staying at the holiday inn and walked here (about 20 minutes). The sidewalks are paved and are OK (walking along speedy highway). The decor of the restaurant was really cool and it felt like it had a quaint charm. We got the banger and mates and the fish and chips. The mash potatoes were SO good. We also ordered veggies on the side which was delicious. Highly recommend if you're in the area! Glad we stopped by here.

Average food. Our server George was spot on, very polite and very helpful, sorry George's boss, but I think he is wasted there. He needs to move on somewhere a bit more classy, even up town, I think he will do well.

After out New years plans were cancelled me and my friends found ourselves in this cozy place and were pleasantly surprised. As charmed by the polite staff, the nice atmosphere my partner and I chose it as St Valentine's day treat and left impressed by the dinner offers.

Chequers Halt & Pull has been very nicely refurbished. Food was good and value for money . Waiter very attentive and caring. A little draughty and cold at the front end of the restaurant.. would suggest a table further back.

George made sure we were seated well and kept checking on us, which exceeded my expectations of service so a massive thank you and well done to him. Overall a great experience before heading out from Gatwick for a holiday. Would visit again.

Came here tonight with friends. Great night. Let the bar know when you park in the carpark to avoid getting a parking ticket. They were short staffed tonight but this did not effect the quality of food. Service was slow, but we understood why. Definitely will revisit in the future.

The pub has been redone since I was last there as the (Chequers). The revamp has made it visually appealing. The food was good and came hot and tasty.

The exterior of the building is classic and very appealing. The interior didn't quite match and very basic. We decided to try quite traditional things - steak and Bangers & Mash. Both were ok (not great) and quite salty!

Bit chaotic on service for food order & left one meal out altogether . A meal had to be sent back due to being overcooked. I felt the staff didn't work as a team on service.

This restaurant should be full every night of the week! Lovely atmosphere, super friendly staff and great service. So nice to see this listed building being used again. Menu a little limited imo but enough choice, even better that the food is currently half price if prebooked through the fork app. Represented excellent value for money. This venue is also superb for a drink on a summers evening in the courtyard

Incredible time at Halt & Pull!! Flawless service - our waiter/bartender was so lovely and kindly advised us on the menu. The food was to die for - it was that good we may well take a train trip down to go back later in the year! Really fantastic and wish this was my local pub! Special mention for the calamari and steaks.

A beautiful pub with a friendly atmosphere and good food. They say Gastropub and it's not wrong. A terrace with a few wooden tables, attentive staff, an active and caring manager and a limited but quality menu. It's a shame that the waiting time is so long despite the few customers (40 minutes for a Garlic Bread accompanying our pints).

Great reasonably priced food. Friend and I shared the cypriot cigar starter which if you are a Halloumi fan you won't be disappointed. Went on to have the fishy gondola for main with just the right amount of spice for me and my friend had the 'dirty cow' burger with skin on fries. Very generous portions & so tasty. The staff are very welcoming and service from George in particular was exceptional. Thanks George and all at H&P, see you all again soon 😀

Lovely pub. Popped in for a drink after major M25 pile up. Luckily we made it to Gatwick for family members. Food looked very good. Toilets really clean too.

I've been to H&P a couple of times for Sunday lunch recently, as my sister lives nearby. It's a great place to go for lunch, the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is good.

They treated us very nicely for a Mother’s Day dinner. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. My only complaint was that the chips were too salty on the Childress meal, but that’s my fault for being too polite to say anything at the time. Thanks H&P.

This a great addition to Horley. The staff are really friendly and they went above and beyond for Mothers Day by bringing over a card and flowers. When they learned it was my mum's birthday as well they brought over a muffin with a candle on! The food itself is good quality but I had to knock off a star as they are very limited on vegan options. Beyond burger as per usual and no option for a vegan roast. If they added a decent amount of plant based food options I'd happily bump up to 5 stars.

This is absolutely and most sincerely an authentic place - well, a gastro-pub in every sense of the meaning - in traditional modern atmosphere, food innovation, pleasant service and friendly staff - that all combined, make up really Halt & Pull. Whilst, and probably in most significantly, is the organic menu items that are unmatched in imagination, design and choice - offering freshly sourced quality ingredients - all created exotically in taste, looks, and titles - by passionate Chef Sebastian - for the locals and travelling guests - with varied options to enjoy freshly, heartily, and healthily - along a wide traditional choice of bar beverages, wines, spirits, beers and cocktails - all served in warm traditional surroundings. A great place, in sum, definitely not to be missed!

The staff are friendly and efficient. The food was good with generous potions. The place is getting busier which will only help with the atmosphere. If it keeps going forward the way it is, it could definitely become our regular haunt.
