The Champion Shell Inn in North Ayrshire

A bit overpriced , I thought , for what you get on their smallish dinner plates . Chips are nice , but food had no presentation . Also , pub was really cold . Sorry to say , I have had nicer meals in other places locally , and not as dear.

Happy days. Breaded mushrooms followed by superb fresh haddock and home cooked chips. Very good pint and great staff.

Great service, excellent choice on the menu, economically priced, great service, nice ambience. Would defo recommend to try. We had ‘tempura chicken and chicken quesadilla’. Both so tasty! You won’t leave hungry! We will definitely be back.

went here on saturday with my wife for lunch after a recommendation. i never new this place existed but will return. on entering received friendly and excellent service i started with chicken and noodle soup not what i expected very thin noodles but was nice wife had nachos also nice i then had steak pie while the wife had beef burritos both dishes were excellent food was also reasonable priced. have to mention the chips were first class . they also had lasagne on menu one of my favourites so look forward to trying this next time. worth travelling for .

We visited Stevenson about a year ago and happened upon this little gem of a place. Excellent food and service in a quiant setting. We often speak of how much we loved stopping there. Thanks again.

The food was absolutely wonderful today ,when we visited ,the Champion Shell Inn .I visited this lovely wee pub several time ,but today the food was exceptional,I could not write a review.If your in the area a lovely friendly quiet pub,worth a visit .

I live in the US and my father was born in Stevenston. My family members have visited his home town several times. Each time we eat at the Champion Shell Inn and take a picture in front of the fireplace. I have been twice and most recently in April with my brothers. We had a great meal and a couple drinks. Everyone in the restaurant was so nice to us including the staff, owner and patrons. The owner, Ronnie, joined us. We had a memorable day. I look forward to returning. You'll have a great meal and drinks in a very relaxing friendly atmoshpere

Not into writing huge reviews, but the Champion Shell inn is a nice, cosy wee pub/restaurant that offers really decent food at good prices. One to check out if you're ever nearby.

Just had two courses , reasonably priced, good wholesome food and great service. Have been a few times will always go back , it deserves five 🌟.

Food is great Mum booked a table for mother's day so we went along with her friend, we all enjoyed our meals later I had the rolo cheese cake so did my mum we both enjoyed it, great value for money I would go back.

We have eaten here several times and have always had a great meal. Good selection of meals and good portions. Food delicious. Would highly recommended.

We went for dinner on Saturday, lovely place to go before going to the club. They do a good three course specially if you are a big eater.I had chief special chicken wrapped up in ham with salad and chips

Great local bar and restraunt, prices are second to none and meals are lovely. Small cozy hideaway in the centre of stevenston thats not to be missed.

Went here for a meal with the girlfriend and her family the other night and it was all in all great portions for good prices, very warming place to have a meal would recommend

Ik heb hier samen met een grote groep collega's gegeten op een zondagavond in september. We mochten in een aparte ruimte zitten (private dining). Wat opviel was de prijs. De rekening viel echt mee. Inclusief drankjes, toetjes, voorgerechten en fooi betaalden we maar 30 pond per persoon.

Went here for a nice pub meal with my husband. We'd previously been for just a few drinks on the odd occasion. The Inn is steeped in history and it's always interesting to sit in to look at things you may not have noticed on your last visit. The food was hot, well presented and well priced - I really enjoyed my meal and would go again.

This wee place sits off the road at stevenston cross and sometimes forgotten about but once you go in you won't forget it again, this friendly family Bar / Restaurant sells your pub classics and all homemade at very good prices definitely great value and portions for the price, this is truly one of the best restaurant in Ayrshire, The staff are always helpful and we'll mannered and make you feel welcome, I highly recommend that you try this great we pub / Restaurant for a meal or even a quite we drink. Special message to John the chef who's cooking is fantastic also to Lorna the Bar manager for her high standard of service and hospitality.

Good food, warm welcoming atmosphere, very happy to recommend this pub.We found this public house to be very accommodating,

First time there and was not disappointed.As soon as we walked in the door ,a friendly smile greeted us and showed us where to go for a table.After a few minutes ( Lorna ) came and served us .She was so pleasant and helpful.The Main course food was excellent and really well presented and so were the desserts .There was about 6 tables set in a part of the Inn pretty secluded and old fashioned surroundings.There was music in the background but not loud enough to spoil any part of the meal or conversation.The toilets were very clean and had a fresh smell.There is a car park opposite the Inn and steps , and a ramp for access.We will definitely be back ,either for a meal or to take friends for a drink and a chat.

Our visit was on a Sunday, late lunch,as I said, it was late lunch time when we arrived, no raised eye brows just of course we are still serving, please take a seat.The food, drinks, and service are excellent Of coarse we had to wait a short while for our food, but this is the price you pay when every thing is cooked fresh, after all if you want speed go to a motorway service area, not a fine little pub like this one, it is full of character, also the locals are all very sociable, and make you feel welcome, as do the people behind the bar.GOOD FOOD, GOOD BEER, GOOD ATMOSPHERE, what else is there to round off a nice Sunday lunch.

My wife and I visited the Champion Shell Inn, Stevenston a couple of months ago.We arrived at approx 6.45pm on a Saturday, I have been to the Champion Shell Inn previously, but my wife has not. I decided to visit it for a meal.I parked in the tiny car park, across the road from the main entrance. Up the stairs and into the bar. We were escorted to our table and we ordered our drinks. We looked at the menu and we ordered the meals. I ordered the gamon steak and my wife had the scampi, we did not have the starter as we decided to have the dessert.The gamon steak was okay, the chips I had were good, there were peas and a few carrots on my plate. My wife's scampi was, according to my wife, not good. The scampi was like rubber, but again the chips and peas were okay.The plates were taken away, I was unahppy as I had enjoyed the Champion Shell the last time I was there, but this time I felt disappointed.We did not stay for dessert, we simply paid out bill and left.I do not know why this visit was not as good as the previous, maybe a different chef. I don't know if we shall visit the Champion Shell Inn again.

This was our first visit to this inn and we couldn't fault it. The choice in the menu is huge and I wondered if this would effect the quality of the food but it didn't at all. There were four in our party and each person enjoyed what they had ordered. Many thanks for a pleasant Sunday lunch.

I came across this hostelry whilst checking out a local society. I was most impressed. The location is at Stevenston Cross and it is housed in an ancient coaching inn. The place itself seems quite compact. The landlord was very friendly. Even when I accidentally smashed a cup. There is a restaurant at the back which was the venue for the society. I must return sometime for lunch. This is just the type of place I would bring a visitor to the area to. It is quiet but does make an impression.

Havent been in here for ages so thought we would try ... never again walk in 5 people at the bar . Stood to be seated and was still there after 10 mins not 1 member of staff in sight wait for 5 mins more and ended up walking out 15mins and didnt even see a member of staff will no be back

Walked in on a nice weather afternoon looking for lunch walked in to place and waited at bar for 10 minutes no staff appear few drinkers at bar with 1 table sitting waiting on food bar stuff must cook lunches very poor if you guys are wanting trade in a town that only has 2 other sit down places to eat

We went out for a wee birthday lunch with my daughter and a friend. The staff were friendly and the service was good. We had been before and had no problems. My friend had steak and as she went to eat she she felt it was on the turn. I tasted a small piece and I also felt it was on the turn. My friend did not want to make a fuss so went to the chef and explained to him what was wrong. The chef said it was fine. My friend explained she could not eat it. She was offered another dish and asked for a starter dish instead. This she enjoyed. When we went to pay the bill we were charged for the steak. We were shocked by this and the waiter stated that the chef said there was nothing wrong with the steak and she had eaten most of it. Two very small pieces were cut off the steak and were actually still on the plate. Our complaint is not really about the steak as these things can happen, it was more about the poor customer service and the attitude of the chef.

Great place to eat n have a drink very friendly staff, close to all bus stops. menu to suit all but there again u cant please everyone. I would recommend if your looking for somewhere to have a meal i would say go here excellent place to have food

Went to champion shell inn tonight had a lovely meal I had roast beef asked for mash potatoes which they made for me the meal was piping hot and the price was very reasonable would definitely go back

Quaint pub with great food at fantastic prices!Great service from staff.A bit cold during the day at lunch time but imagine it's warmer in the evening with more people there. Would go again :)

Popped in here for a meal, plenty of choice, the food was well presented & very tasty.My only gripe was the smokers, smoking in the entrance, we had to move tables due to the stench coming through.Seemed a popular pub, no where for the drinkers to sit, due to the tables being used for meals.I'd be happy to go back for a meal.

I booked a private party for a birthday meal. The restaurant was closed that night but they opened it up for us. the meal, service and atmosphere was brilliant and very reasonable. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody. I am hoping to book again this October.

My partner and I decided to try here for a bite to eat after getting a last minute babysitter on a Saturday night. We were not dissapointed! I had spicy chicken wings to start and a beef curry for my main, both delicious. I am always wary of ordering curry when not in an Indian restaurant but this was lovely served with rice and naan bread. The Mrs had pate to start and a beef stir fry as a main. Again both were lovely. Portion size was great also. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice bite to eat, great portions and excellent value for money. Not many places you can have a starter and main each, and bottle of wine and three more bottled beers for forty quid! Looking forward to our next visit!

I have visited the champion shell on several occasions. I always found the staff to be friendly, the food to be very good and the service excellent.

Really disAppointed in this venue. Select clientele, food not great, not fresh cooked. We sent ours back due to being cold on the middle. Shame to see what was a nice place for lunch going downhill. Wouldn't recommend

First visit and pleasantly surprised - Great service, good food - great value - Both of us thoroughly enjoyed all 3 courses (Steak pie melted in your mouth) and will definitely be back.

As usual food never disappoints here. Plenty of choice for everyone and quality is there. Chef is nice and always comes out to ask how the food is. This last visit was marred by the smokers huddled in the doorway as weather was bad. Had to squeeze by them to get in. When we were eating, every time they opened the door all we could smell was a whole lot of smoke. It's a small place so it wasn't pleasant and we didn't stay as long as we usually would because of this. But that aside this is a little cracker of a place for pub food.

Always eat when up visiting my mother. Such a friendly little place and food is always excellent. Susan who usually looks after us is so nice and very helpful. Really good prices for such lovely food makes this place a must do place for food in Stevenston.

Went for lunch today with my mum and yet again we were very satisfied customers. Good food and huge portions. To top it off the woman who served us was lovely. I would definately recommend the Champion Shell to anyone

the last time I had food here was not great. There is better places around. The bar has a good atmosphere though and a friendly wee pub
