The Chain Runner in West Lothian

Since this was my first visit here I didn't know what to expect, but the staff were friendly and welcoming. Service was brilliant and quick. Have nothing negative to say at al, I would definitely go back again.

Excellent. We love this place as its the most family and dog friendly place we've been to. The staff are attentive and friendly. The place is clean and well laid out. We've had many family meals here and Christmas Dinner. Never had a bad experience. Our dog takes advantage of the free dog treats and water bowls. She is always fussed over and nothing ever seems too much for the staff. Five stars all day long.

Shawn was ur server and he was wonderful, polite and attentive. Couldn’t recommend a better member of staff

It’s a franchise carvery. It’s not BAD, the food is pretty decent but you wouldn’t give 5 starts to a Wetherspoons and this falls into that bracket.

Staff very friendly, helpful and professional. They cater for all needs and dogs are also welcome. If there was anything wrong, the staff corrected it without hesitation. Great portions of food and good value for money.

This is the first time we have visited the chain runner, however have visited other Marston restaurants regularly. I am happy to say that from the welcome to the dinner was an exceptional experience. We found the staff polite, friendly, always ready with a smile and attentive without being over bearing. The food is definitely up there with the best of not the best in quality, flavour and value. I am not the kind of person to easily give 5 stars or 10 out of 10, but am very happy to do so on this occasion.

Staff were cheerful and most accomodating. Food was well prepared and menu options more than acceptable. Atmosphere of the venue was warm and friendly and cleanliness of service areas very welcome. A lovely experience. We look forward to our next visit.

I booked online for Morhers' day, and when I actually went in to request to add on another family member to our booking, the guy I spoke to said they didn't have my booking and that would be a definite 'no' to add anyone. When I showed him my confirmation text and email of my booking, he proceeded to say they didn't have my booking and it hadn't been authorised by them so my £30 deposit would not have been taken from my bank. I then had to show him my bank account to prove the deposit had, of course, come off. He then said, ok thats me fitted you all in. This was too confusing and unprofessional, and the guy that I was dealing with appeared extremely stressed and dismissive in my request and claimed to have sorted a problem that wasn't even there in the first instance. I left not feeling confident that my booking for Mothers day was secured and just had to hope for the best on the day for my Mum and her family. We have taken my Mum many times as she likes it there, but I do not think we will return for a while as this was very off-putting.

Very welcoming service from the beginning. Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Food is reasonably priced. Main course for one dishes was bland and the pasta mushy. But all dishes were good value. Had the same dish before and know that this wasn't typical standards and just a blip. Restaurant took the price of the dish from the bill (which was unexpected) and will still be back next time.

Your staff are always really polite and friendly and have a smile making me feel welcome at the chain runner. The drinks are always delivered to my table minutes after I have ordered which I like. The food is always delivered to my table quickly by a member of the fantastic staff at the Chain Runner. This pub is practically my local because of the excellent atmosphere even although I live 3 miles away I have even been with my dog. I really like the chain runner. Google wanted me to update and I can say that my review still stands brilliant place for drinks and food

Main course food was lovely. We had the steak pie this time, last time we had the gammon steak.Delicious. Dessert was ok but could have been better.

Went for dinner with friends on 9/03/24 ,seated just after 6 came and took our drinks order ,drinks arrived then took our orders after just over an hour waiter came back and asked if we had out food ...no we hadn't it was then brought through ,obviously been lying in kitchen as chicken was warm and dried up, onion rings cold and friends steak was chewy plus there was a film over peppercorn sauce ,we asked for food to be taken away and was given fresh food but still charged us full price and no discount, we then had to ask for more drinks. Certainly won't be back!!!!!@

The service in here is so slow. I waited 20 mins for a cup of tea then another long wait for food. My juice arrived when I was leaving and they put us in the family section which was full of screaming babies and children running in and out to the play park. It was cold to sit there. Asked for the bill and had to wait yet another 15 mins for that. It has put me off going back. They need more staff

Pop in for lunch with my granddaughter regularly, as like the food, quiet atmosphere and friendly staff. I don't eat meat, so there's plenty choice on menu for me, but, I always order the veggie chilli. I dont like the vegan mayo it comes with, but, Ayden, always remembers and gets me sour cream instead. Kids menu is good, especially the donuts, that arrive as a smiley face 😁

Love going for lunch, nice atmosphere and Ayden is always really good with the kids. He will always get us food no matter how little time we have and is always very attentive.

This is now my wee getaway haven and I love it! All the staff are lovely, great food, spotlessly clean and so close to the shops.

Fantastic service. Food was was lovely and good portions. Slight wait on drinks as the restaurant became quite busy but overall very good. Staff were very accommodating and made my daughters birthday extra special.

Myself and the two kids went for dinner at the Chain runner and were met with excellent customer service and a memorable experience. We go often enough but this occasion was made extra fabulous thanks to the staff. My son (8) had his birthday two days before and this was a latish celebration due to me working. We mentioned that fact to Ayden who kindly met us at the door and seated us at our table. His service was excellent and a credit to the rest of the team. My kids was offered a celebratory ice-cream in light of my son's birthday, Ayden once again showing compassion and offering the desserts complement to the meal. Excellent experience all round, glad to be a loyal customer

Popped in out of the blue for my dad's birthday, Was seated in a nice corner table, Our server Chelsea was lovely and couldn't have done more.

Staff very friendly. Was little accident with a spilt drink which was very quickly dealt with from the staff. Food was amazing, so much so we ate here the following night too. Will definitely be back

Was here for dinner with the family placed the food order and about 40 minutes later was told there was no carvery left 15 minutes later the sharing loaded fries arrived for starters which were only look warm wasn’t given any cutlery at least we didn’t burn our fingers had to go ask for mains to be sent out and ask for cutlery which still hadn’t been delivered to the table mains were average at least they were warmer than the starter don’t think we will return

Customer service was appalling waited ages to be served for drinks and then waited another long period of time for them for them to arrive, after about 10 mins he came and took our food order food arrived much quicker and was very very good but let down again with the fact dirty dishes were left on the tables for the duration of the visit shame really as the food was great. Staff standing around on arrival it wasn't busy at this time deeply disappointed

Hi we was in your restaurant I ordered curry as was on special curry and drink for £12.50 I order chicken tikka and it was watery and I told manger he said was ment to look like that he taken it away and replace meal was as bad. I didn’t continue with complaint as manger didn’t see my issue how ever I have video of it I will post on line soon

Was a fantastic restaurant. The food was superb, the karaoke night was so fun and they let my 9 year old daughter to sing, ending with whole pub singing together. My #1 choice around Edinburgh from now on

Decent place to eat - the food is nice and has much improved from the last time we visited. The service was ok but could have been better.

Look, the place is pretty decent, but I do have a gripe with management after tonight. This isn't the first time where we have shown up at 8:30PM, 30 minutes before the weekday kitchen cut off to be told the kitchen is closed. I find it mad that in an age where the hospitality sector is screaming for every penny, just seem way to willing to turn away around £200 on five different occasions now. Anyways rant over, I will be back as the place is decent, but honestly if the kitchen isn't open past 8:30, tell us on google or your site instead of wasting everyone's time.

I ordered Hunter's chicken with fries. Chicken arrived with chips. No Mozzarella nor Cheddar cheese topping was supplied and it was not 'smothered' with BBQ sauce. The half tomato was tasteless and the onion rings were grim. Although I had a serrated knife I struggled to cut the chicken and, would you believe, the onion rings! I would not describe the chicken as roasted. It was totally bland looking. Will definitely not recommend and will not be back.

Fantastic place staff are very friendly and helpful and our food was excellent and the price was very very good value for money definitely recommend and we will be back this was our first but certainly not our last visit you’re staff are brilliant

A bit slow to get us (2) seated but a nice quiet area. Which we liked. Ordered meals at the bar & presented my 30% discount voucher no problems. We’d ordered a beef lasagne with garlic bread & a classic Cheeseburger with chips. These arrived super quick and looked tasty. Had to return to the bar however to let them know my cheeseburger was sans cheese! This was sorted immediately. Don’t know if we’d lunch here again, it’s not well located & means a car trip for us. As pensioners we use free bus travel to access Livingstons many other Restaurants.

I'm no food critic, it's just fuel to me, but this beef korma curry, rice and naan was Out Of This World 👌 Full 5 stars to the chef!

Really good good was Lovley. Chicken burger could have had a little more lettuce and things however was really nice. Only down side was no one came over to provide the bill once we had finished and we waited a while before just heading to the bar. Wasn’t a problem though. Got a 30% voucher and itWill be back
