At 6.45pm I ordered, from their website, a special fish supper for home delivery. The email confirmation said the food would leave the restaurant at 7.25pm. I live less than a mile away, so I expected delivery about 7.30pm. At 8pm I phoned up and asked where my food was. I was told to expect it soon and that they had been very busy. What is the point of giving a time for dispatch if it's bogus and you know you won't be able to meet your own deadline? And if you are going to be running at least 30 minutes late why not contact the customer? "In the unlikely event there are any problems, we will get in touch as soon as possible, via telephone text or email." said the confirmation email. I call BS. I only ordered online for home delivery in response to the review "Best avoided" which didn't advise walking in and ordering in the shop. It seems whatever way you order, the service will be disappointing. The special fish was nice and reasonably hot when delivered. The peas were plentiful but bland. The tartar sauce was awful.

Well I beg to differ from any negative reviews, they are quite clearly a one off. I have had food here loads of times and each time has been outstanding. Any fried food in batter is always cooked to profection. Pizzas good to. They even have fo kebabs which are good value for the size comparison to other places. I have dined in with my mother, we actually have fish and chips anywhere we visit, I. Scotland and the UK, and I actually have a background in hospitlity, I have worked as a chef in a Michelin star kitchen, and am very experienced in this field. Though I prefer to sample the finest fish and chips there is. This place certainly does not disappoint. Also it seems to be family run, and when you dine you feel like part of the family. All in all best fish and chips in Fife. Other places should follow their blue print. I shall return anytime Im in fife.

We ordered 2 pizzas with chips. Even after a 10 minute drive home to eat, everything was amazing. Loads of topping and chips looked home made. Will be back very soon.

Popped in on the way home and ordered two pudding suppers. They got the order wrong...twice and after a long wait. The haggis was not cooked the batter was wet. Quite an achievment for fried food I had to wait 20+minutes for. I ended up putting most of it in the bin. Chips were ok . The puzzling thing was the place wasn't very busy and there were quite a lot of staff behind the till. I get the impression it's now set up for phone orders so I wouldn't advise walking in.

I have to admit this was the first place we thought of for our fish and chip supper since recently moving into the area, but it was delicious. The fish was really fresh. They also handled the new Covid-19 routine really well.

At this time of national crisis with the Corona virus, my and I decided to treat our daughters, a nurse in the high dependency unit, with food delivered from this cafe. Most of the others opened later so I phoned this cafe for home delivery. The lady that took the order was extremely helpful and courteous. The food was delivered to my daughter and she and her family highly recommended all the food. There was so much that the five kids and her partner had leftovers to eat the next day. I am basing this review on their statements. At this extremely difficult time such service deserves praise.

Not at all welcoming to sit in for a meal. Very cold and uncomfortable. One particular member of staff very rude and foul mouthed on our visit, customer service 'skills' very much lacking. As for the food, greasy, not very fresh tasting, hot atleast, but not for long due to freezing cold draught coming through the wide open door, which I politely asked if I could close again, was told no problem, but then mr foul mouth, terrible attitude charged through swearing about it and opened it again. I don't recommend this place, certainly wasn't that good, and very much let down by that one foul mouthed man. No wonder the tables were empty

I have used the Central Cafe a few times since moving into the area 3 years ago, and quite frankly never had a complaint about the service nor the food, and would gladly recommend it.However, I popped in Saturday (Sept. 28th) early evening and ordered a Medium Fish Supper and a Single Haggis. The Cafe was packed, despite this I was served my takeaway in what was a reasonable time considering the demand.Within an hour or so of eating my Wife became very ill, and I followed an hour or so later. This continued throughout Sunday, and I am still struggling Tuesday morning as I right this review.Interestingly this is the first time that I have had my fish served from the hot plate, previously my fish has been cooked to order, don’t know about the haggis.I am curious if anyone else suffered similar problems.

My husband ordered large fish n chips as he had been told the fish were large... The portions had 3 pieces of fish! None of us were able to eat all the fish! The fish and chips were very good. However, a cheap takeaway became expensive as it was charged accordingly!

This is a great family owned Chip shop. Menu is as you would expect from a Chippie. Service was excellent. Staff know what their regulars want making them feel important.

Ordered a half Hawaii half Tuna pizza and a house special, both 12". My husband had the house special containing ham and pointed out that the ham was soft, more like a paste. I had a slice of the Hawaii pizza and noticed that I also had that paste consistency like stuff on my Hawaii pizza, which according to the Central Cafe's menu is classified as ham. I am somewhat irked that the Central Cafe appears to have swapped ham for Spam or some salty, fatty paste like thing. Really disappointing and although I only had 3 slices of my pizza I am not sure I want to eat the remaining 3/4 ... I would like to add that we have ordered fish and haggis suppers as well as other items from the menu in the past and always liked particularly the chips when they were fresh. I can not recommend ordering a pizza that contains what is listed as ham. Attached find a picture of the substance called 'ham'. It's really sad to be charged £10.50 or £9 respectively despite the very large amount of cheese - which is also somewhat of an overbearing amount because you can not actually taste the tuna for example.

Visited the Central Cafe tonight for tea with my husband, daughter and two kids. Food was freshly cooked and tasty and plenty of it. Tea came in a pot with proper milk, which was great! The only criticism was the lack of a high chair and a bit of a grumpy waiter, but highlighted the latter to the boss and he apologised and said he would deal with it, so perfectly reassured!

Had an amazing takeaway/delivery from Central tonight, it was amazing , loving the new menu , I had the melting spicy meatballs which were delicious, my partner had kebab and he loved the new fresh salad , my son had the haddock roll which he thoroughly enjoyed, everything was piping hot when it arrived and was as fresh as if I had just cooked it myself. Such a great service with a courtesy call to say it was going to be 5min longer than time first anticipated. Such great customer service , will definitely recommend to others.

Visit to Cupar with my friend, it was a cold blustery day so we opted for some hot food and found The Central Cafe. I have to say it is outstanding on all fronts, the owners provide an all round service of excellence within this hidden gem. A must stop for anyone travelling through and to Cupar, Fife. The setting is welcoming, the fayre is delicious including an excellent choice for Vegetarians. The Macaroni Cheese special was scrummylicious. Owner/Chef creates some of the best food I have tasted to date. What I found most appealing was the natural attention to details in all that the owners did and the family friendly feel to the place. A chat with the owner gave a valuable insight into the history of the Cafe and how he creates his delicious fritters, fine fayre indeed and outstanding service. Five Star rating earned. Ill be back!!!

We were staying in Cupar for one night and needed something to eat in the evening. It was really nice to find a "takeaway", where we could sit down at a table (with a knife and fork) in the warm to eat. The food was really good (fish and chips and steak pie and chips and we even had a glass of wine) and the staff were all really friendly. Really good value for money, especially when compared to the alternative of eating in a pub or restaurant.

Went for a quick tea here on Monday 11th September with our 2 hungry grandchildren of 18 months and 31/2. Opening hours state till 5 however after entering at 4:15 and sitting ourselves down at the table I asked for a high chair and was told that we would have to wait for the manager to return to see if we could be served as they closed at 5. When she returned we were told no as they closed at 5! There was no barriers to stop us entering the Cafe and the door was wide open! I pointed out that they were open and that it was only 4:20pm and we were the only people there so wouldn't have taken long to serve us and we were in a hurry anyway! Despite this she still would not serve us! Hospitable No! Business Award, Really, How?

Just back from a lovely lunch at the Central Cafe - a Fish Tea on a massive fish shaped plate - you have to see it to believe it! I also had an individual bottle of wine brought to the table in a wine cooler. The standard of service here is first class and the staff are wonderful, very friendly and attentive. The owner is very charismatic - customers love his beaming smile. So if you are in Cupar, passing through on your way to St Andrews or travelling further afield for a lovlely day out I'd say make sure the Central Cafe, Cupar is on your itinerary. Don't miss it.

Just back from holiday and wanted a quick and easy meal. Popped into The Central and decided to have a pizza instead of the fish & chips ( equally as good). Had the Four Seasons pizza, hubby had chicken & bacon. Both were delicious, and good value. We will be back for more!

Went for steak night but extremely disappointed. Asked for medium steak but was more rare.Few soggy chips, hard peas and two underdone soggy onion rings. No salad as advertsed. Food was also cold. Asked for a prosecco and was told had no cold ones . Was given small one off top shelf behind bar but when I opened it it was completely flat and very yellow so I think it must have been on the shelf a long while! Lady opened big bottle which again came from top shelf so was not cold but was bubbly. Can't believe there was no bottles in wine fridge. Sticky toffee pudding was good though. Seeing as there was just one other couple in the restaurant there really was no excuse for steak meal being so poor as kitchen not rushed. Won't be rushing back!!!

What a venue !! Charming with a historical room to be seen to be believed (clipper room) ! I cannot say enough about the owners and staff who made me feel welcomed and could not do enough ! I was there for a music gig with friends and the music room venue was brilliant , atmospheric and intimate ! The hotel is in a lovely location with historical sites , coastal walks and a golf course nearby.

When the weather turns cold, shops closed, you don’t want a restaurant, just a cuppa, Alexander and George will make you welcome. Enticed by the chips! Feel much better now. Thanks guys!

Having always enjoyed meals at The Doll’s House we imagined this was a mere name change, and were drawn in by the offer of a reasonably priced set menu all day Wednesday and Thursday. Inside the decor was smart enough and the waitress pleasant. However they were unaware of the set menu offer clearly advertised outside, and then said they’d still put our meal through at that price so long as we didn’t order anything expensive ! This wasn’t easy as five dishes were already sold out by 7.30, leaving little choice. The soups were ok, as was my deer, but my wife’s ratatouille was the most ridiculous item I’ve ever seen offered as main dish- three slices of undercooked courgette, a few tomatoes swimming in a watery sauce. We skipped desserts and were presented with a bill of £72, the manager having forgotten her promise. On appeal she applied a discount, but £58 was still very expensive for an experience that could charitably be described as poor. I’d steer well clear - there is no shortage of places to eat in St Andrews.
