Very disappointing food….. Starters - prawn dish, only 5 small prawns being over cooked in boiling oil accompanied by piece of bread with mayo. Goats cheese tart smothered with balsamic vinegar. 3 out if 5 main courses were cold. Sent back but not even warm when supposedly heated.Lamb shank had ‘shrunk’ in size when meal returned. Very undercooked roasted vegetables - not cooked! Luke warm coffee. Horrific noise, disco above, restaurant music too loud…….. We had asked to change table due to the noise above only to be seated in a similar part of the restaurant- UNDER THE DISCO of the wedding party. I’m addition to the music and thudding the restaurant had its own music blaring. We asked for the restaurant music to be turned down but we were told by a deputy manger that it could not be turned down and it was to hide the noise of the disco above. This noise was horrific!!!!!! No wonder very few tables were in use in this area of the cellar restaurant!! We spoke to the manger re the above - all he and the deputy did was to offer free desserts or coffee, no apologies. I told them that we had used Weston hall on many occasions over many years and how we had never had such an awful experience. It was very disappointing that our family meal to celebrate a ‘special’ birthday had been spoilt. Neither of these managers seemed to bother and had a very defensive attitude. The deputy actually told me to stand and wait for a few minutes to speak to him - he was speaking to a waiter. The manager thought by offering 3 free desserts would make everything right - we declined the desserts. They then thought that taking the cost of some drinks off the bill made up for a spoilt evening. I suggested that when people make a booking they should be told if their table is going to be under a disco!!! Our booking had not been ‘last minute’ so we should have been told. Absolutely awful experience.

Sunday Lunch. two course £28.50 per person plus VAT plus service charge We had oneJ2O plus a small glass of diet coke to start we chose the Weston Hall Cocktail* Atlantic prawns, Marie rose sauce, brown bread, if there was two dessert spoon of small frozen shrimps not PRAWNS on the chopped up Iceberg lettuce, the Marie rose sauce was out of a bottle what little bit there was sprinkled with a bit of paprika on top. the main we had was the Braised Lamb Shank roast potatoes, roast carrot & parsnip if you want glutton free it is an extra £4.00. the meat was about 6cm across x 5mm thick 3 pieces on 3 very small roast potatoes and I mean small the meat was stacked on top and covered them all, one piece of roast carrot and I mean one piece, one half of a parsnip half cooked with a extremely small amount of red wine gravy over, on the side for two persons a bowl of steamed unseasoned mix frozen veg you know the kind you can buy at any supermarket small bits of broccoli, mini corn , green beans, mange tout, the only thing that arrived hot was a small bowl of creamed leeks every thing else was served on cold plates , if you want Mashed Potato it is £3.00 per person extra, to say I was not a happy customer is a understatement, I think I would had been better of going to a Toby Carvery at least there you can get a good sized meal maybe the surroundings will not be as good but you are going for lunch. Cost of meal £71.40, and then they asked me if it was ok to leave the service charge of 10% on the bill YOU MUST BE JOKING first and last time.

First off, we have been to Weston Hall for both Lunch and Evening meals many times in the past over the course of the last 25 years, occasionally there may be a gripe, but never enough to complain about or to give a negative review. We booked our table for six in 2023 pretty much as soon as the bookings were available, at the time of booking we had to pay in full, and took the time to tell them that one of our party is Gluten Intolerant, and another has mobility issues and will be in either a wheelchair or mini - scooter. Two days before New Years Eve I called Weston Hall and checked the details for the venue as my wife and I had some reservations about wheelchair access. I was told that the event was all on one level, the "Cellar Restaurant" and access will be fine. Come to the night we arrived, we parked as close as we could to the Cellar entrance, my wife was using an electric chair with a joystick for control, we made our way down towards the entrance, the chair would not navigate the step up off the roadway, but we mucked in and got her onto the apron outside the downstairs entrance. Many people were arriving and making their way up the steps outside to the upstairs Westminster suite. At this point we were told that that was where the Champagne reception was being held, and there is no mobility access from where we were. A very kind member of staff pointed out there was a way we could get in via the "Conservatory". So we navigate off the step, up the car park, around the back to the conservatory entrance where we found a substantial step up to get in. We got my wife to stand while we got her chair in, then got her in and sat down on the chair to find you could not get through the conservatory as a 6 foot round table was blocking the way! The member of staff was at a loss, and unsure what to do, two of us got hold of the table and lifted high enough to clear all the other tables while my wife navigated underneath to get into the Westminster Suite. There we were all packed in like sardines, literally standing room only, seating for around 10% of the people squeezed into the space. The canapes were very nice, loads of flavour and went well with the Champagne. We were only there for around 10 mins when we were all called down to the main restaurant, so we did the journey in reverse, which I can assure you was a right pain in the backside. Getting back to the entrance to the Cellar, we found a step down (only a few inches, but in a wheelchair still an obstacle) then getting inside, we were eventually escorted to our table. Now bearing in mind how long they had known about our "issues" we found it hard to believe they had put us around a table at the furthest point from both the entrance and the disabled toilet. As they had moved tables around to create a dance area, the room between tables was reduced so a lot of people were inconvenienced every time my wife went to the toilet, having to stand and move in their chairs to let her pass. This made my wife very self conscious and felt awkward. The evening continued with the meal; Never in my long life have I ever been to a restaurant where a lump of bread was called or classed as a "course" . The bread course was followed by the "Soup" course - Logic would dictate that any normal food emporium would serve the bread WITH the soup? But also bear in mind when the tepid soup arrived, there was barely three spoons of soup in the bottom of the bowl. The amuse bouche was Trout, a fine fish, but the offering we had was so thin you could see through it, and it was about 2" long x 1! wide. You just rolled it up an barely had a mouth-full. We had the delight of a bowl of cucumber water with a ball of ice in it, many could not quite work out why. Then we had the main course, two slices of fillet beef with french sliced potatoes in a garlic sauce (three slices of potato). The beef arrived blue, was sent back and returned beautifully cooked, it tasted amazing and was very nice, although not enough to feed a six year old. Desert (I cannot force myself to call it pudding) was a chocolate lovers delight, Chocolate ice cream and a chocolate cake, the issue was it was so dark in 90% chocolate it was bitter and almost inedible. We looked around all the tables around us and I could not see one plate that had been cleared. And finally the cheese course, bear in mind we are a table of 6 adults. The table next to us had a couple on it. Both tables had the same cheese board, a small wooden board with a selection of cheese and biscuits and 4 grapes! Nice for 2 but woeful for a table of 6, we did not even have a grape each. During the meal I went to the bar to order a round of drinks and to order a bottle of Champagne ready and in time for midnight, only to be told that "dont worry, the staff will be around at about 11:30 to take orders for bottles" so I thought no more of it. 11:30 came and went so at around 11:40 I went to the bar to pay my bar bill and sort out the Champagne to be told "THE BAR IS CLOSED". Another guest came up to the bar and was told the same thing, she protested loudly as she was also a guest who was staying overnight so they had to serve her. One of our party was doing the same so we did manage to get a bottle at the last minute. Midnight came and went, then the fireworks went off, lots of bangs and flashes, but we did not want to repeat the nuisance of getting out, only to have to come back in again, se we missed the fireworks. Apparently feedback came back to us that the Manager/Owner had been spoken to by one of our party, and had responded that we had been rude to the staff all night. That is a complete fabrication and very offensive attitude, if that were the case why would we have left a generous tip? In general I can only look back over the entire evening as a complete waste of money, time and effort. We would never return again for an event, and after the attitude of the owner, probably not return for a meal either. One thing they did get right (maybe more people had complained about the tiny food portions) the staff came round with bacon or sausage sandwiches, bear in mind two sandwiches doubled your food intake for the whole evening.

Lovely meal and location however service very slow and a service charge which you need to be aware of and as a result of this we wouldnt return. I understand this is "discretionary" but resent it all the same. Other places do not do this. Don't mind paying a service charge but don't expect to have to chase my meal, drinks etc if I am doing that

I gave this a three for the poor wine choice, particularly with white wine. The limited wine they have was then not available. Also the time to serve drinks was particularly slow, didn’t even know the wine we wanted was not available until we had finished our starters. However, young male managers did try and sort it out for us and was polite and friendly. Took the shine off the birthday celebration a bit though. Food was excellent, hoping to come back just for that. More wine choice please and maybe make more of a fuss of celebrations!

We’ve eaten here quite a few times over the years and never been disappointed, however they excelled themselves with the quality of their food when we visited last night for our anniversary dinner. Every element of every course was just perfect. Design, cooking, presentation… The flavour combinations were just divine. Even the humble chip was raised above and beyond all previous experience! And all this in the beautiful surroundings and with the friendly, efficient service we’ve come to expect. It’s not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

We have just returned from Sunday lunch at Weston Hall. There was 6 of us for our mothers 80th birthday. Whilst we enjoyed what food we had, the experience was not the birthday celebration that we had planned. It was so very very slow. We booked our table for 2.30 and on arrival we sat in the front lounge waiting to be called to our table. Eventually we asked how long it would be until our table was ready and the waitress admitted that she had forgotten to call us through. Unfortunately we also ended up waiting for such a long time for our food. It took an unacceptable length of time for our main meals to be served. Due to time constraints we had to forego the desserts and order coffees instead. After another 30 minute wait and still no sign of our coffees, we had no choice but to cancel our coffee order. I appreciate the fact that Weston Hall was extremely busy this afternoon. Not only was every table filled with diners, there was also a wedding going on upstairs. However we had booked this Sunday lunch several weeks ago. This was not the celebration that we had planned. We arrived at 2.30 and left at 4.48 after only having a starter and a main course each. Taking over 2 hours and 15 minutes for 2 courses is unacceptable. Far too many diners and not enough staff. Is this the case of yet another restaurant being extremely greedy? Wanting our custom and yet not bothering to provide a good service? And of course Weston Hall is not cheap!

365 days, 525,000 minutes, 1 year, unus annus, 1 whole trip around the sun (to name a few) and the beautifully haunting memory of that duck lured me back to the Cellar Restaurant like a magpie to a shiny object or a pensioner to the "Carry-On" Films. Thus begins our new tale: The Fellowship of the Linds I was hesitant to visit prior to my fowl-anniversary as it appeared that our previous protagonist, Lindsay, was no longer at this fabled establishment and, although I imagine the food and service remained at a high standard in her stead, I regretfully did not enter. Like Gandalf the grey she had fought the Balrog and disappeared into the void. A void that, I'm sure, could not have been filled. The doubling of my grief (one for the loss of such a great manager and one of course still being the duck) sent me into a spiral in which I was forced to do some soul searching and ask myself a serious question: What do I value in a restaurant? Atmosphere? Sure. Friendly Staff? Of course. Duck? Obviously. Drinks? Most Assuredly. Good Management? Naturally. My adventure took me to the heart of the mountains but unlike Frodo searching for his way into Mordor, I no longer had my Sméagol to show me the way. I reached the summit and mediated on that question. A year passed, my beard lengthened, I even forgot my own name yet I learned many things from my time atop the mountain. The question "What do I value in a restaurant?" Still had answers after subtracting Lindsay from the equation. I still loved the rest of the food, I had great conversations with the staff, the atmosphere was still the regal ascetic I had grown to love about the Cellar and the drinks were still fantastic! (Although I must note the bartender that made me that Old Fashioned last time no longer works the bar and I believe has moved into accounting, a loss itself for bars nationwide). So, I decided it was time to go back! I climbed down from my mountainous perch, tidied myself up, shaved, re-learned my name from an overdue rent bill, and rushed straight out to the Cellar Restaurant. No longer would I Stand in my own way and I would taste fowl once more. I cautiously entered the restaurant. I couldn't believe it, my eyes surely deceived me. Like a phoenix, my very own Gandalf the White! Lindsay had returned! She was stood right there at the host desk with her welcoming smile, I felt like I was home and it was then I knew I could relax. The staff, spearheaded by Lindsay (The OG) would look after me tonight. It was exactly as it had been before. Lindsay showed my to my table, she explained the menu once more although I interrupted her to explain that this was no longer necessary due to my time in meditation. I had thought about my experience every day and the menu was always fresh in my mind. They say never meet your heroes, and after last time Lindsay had become somewhat of a Heroine to me. But, she didn't miss a beat. Drinks - Starters - Check-back - Drinks - Mains - Check-back and so on. Lindsay made me feel like I had been invited into her house as a friend and VIP, all I need do is "Speak Friend and Enter". Well, Belloch. You might at this point be wondering what I ordered. Don't be so naïve. You KNOW what I ordered. Hoisin Sauce, Sesame seeds, Pancakes, Spring onions, Cucumber and of course The Sizzling Duck. There was something different about it, it was even better. Surely my mind was playing tricks on me. It couldn't have been better than last time, it was the best thing I had ever eaten. I asked my friend, Lindsay, how this could possibly be! It turns out she did not return alone. A man, a tall man with tattoos, a chef of the highest quality, a versatile and talented mythical man known only as "Barbs". Was this a name? A title? Well it was certainly an honour to eat the food that this man had prepared. Maybe one day I can meet this "Barbs" and learn of his culinary expertise myself, Senpai. I sat and watched In awe as food flew out of that kitchen at a pace seen only in my rear view mirror as the Ostrich whose egg I had once stolen gained on me during my formative years as an aspiring kleptomaniac. I didn't escape from the beast then and I didn't escape from the flavour of the sizzling duck platter now. I was all in. I will never go such a period of time without visiting the cellar again. I couldn't do that to my tastebuds. I paid my bill and then some. My choice of course, it would have been an insult not to tip. I needed to show my appreciation. One day my appreciation may even take the form of a series of short stories featuring the cellar restaurant and its team. Once more we exchanged pleasantries during my departure. I was nervous to leave my new family, but I must. New adventures await! Aragorn may offer his Sword, Legolas his Bow and Gimli his Axe. But, You Lindsay and Barbs, have my word of my return after I spread the message of the experience you are offering here. I shall be the Dandelion to your Geralt, singing tales of your deeds for years to come. The mythical Masterchef "Barbs" (If that even IS his real name), the General Manager Lindsay, the attentive, informative and knowledgable staff, the barmen. They formed, at least in my mind, The Fellowship of the Linds. I was in safe hands and now I feel like family. This is not the last you will have heard from this Nephew of a Burglar. If you have made it to the end of this story, I commend you for your patience. But a mere 5 star "Food was great, staff friendly too!" review just would not have done this magnificent establishment or the amazing staff any justice. Instead, I hope you enjoyed the tail (A fowl joke, I know) of The Fellowship of the Linds. Until Next Time. Kieran.

The service overall was very disappointing especially from the management. Service slow even though the restaurant was not busy. The male manager did not even acknowledge us or smile very sullen. My grandson starting on his dessert only to find a long hair in it. No management could even be bothered to come over to apologise or see how we were. The food was not the best either, it was a very disappointing visit.

Great food great service just a shame they don’t make you aware of the extra service charge they are going to add on. No problem giving a tip for good food and service just don’t appreciate it being added to the bill and not making you aware. How many people after a few drinks don’t notice. I know it’s standard practice but doesn’t make it right and they should make you aware. When asked about it. Apparently the till automatically adds it on ….yeah ok management take note, we loved the food and service but don’t appreciate the stealth charge and won’t be coming back in a hurry. Really annoyed us! Be warned 😡

Disappointed with the service and my meal today at the cellar restaurant. Having already waited over 30 minutes to be sat at our table, We had to wait for a further (almost) 45 minutes for our 'starter' to come out!! We were told they were delayed due to being very busy. This has happened before where they can't seem to cope or manage very well serving guests in the cellar restaurant and catering for guests at the wedding reception in the function room upstairs!! There was also thumping noise coming from the function room above, adding to the noisy restaurant area. Not the sort of relaxing and fairly tranquil setting you would hope for? To add to our frustration there was also a large insect crawling underneath our table. One of the older restaurant staff was rather rude, discourteous, and out of line in dealing with the matter; certainly has far too much to say for herself and is not one to follow the correct etiquette and I was left rather upset and left the table for while. I have to say the majority of the staff are rather polite and courteous. Well, I might have guessed that things would keep going down from here. When the main course finally arrived, they hadn't served the gravy separately in a jug as requested, it was far too much poured all over my food so they had to take it back, which I didn't want them to, I wanted an extra plate so I could sort it out myself and not be delayed further. My returned food came back (as dreaded) overcooked i.e the chicken and roast were dry. My parsnip, however, was undercooked and as I was unable to slice them, I gave up and left them aside; I will say the gravy was very nice it was just a pity everything else that accompanied it wasn't.

We had the beef which was cooked to perfection served with roast potatoes, parsnips , Yorkshire pudding and separate bowls with veg and cauliflower cheese. Dessert was to die for. Banana cheesecake and the others had sticky toffee pudding! For the cost it represented brilliant value for money not forgetting the service. Waitress was brilliant and an asset to Weston hall. Hands down beats other restaurants in the area for food and service and will definitely be returning!!

One day, my friends and I ventured to Weston Hall for dinner in the cellar restaurant. A hearty meal was in order after a strenuous day on the court. Our protagonist, Lindsey, greeted us at the door with smiles and a glowing atmosphere that was this magnificent restaurant. From the get-go, I knew we were in for a treat. Lindsey showed us to our table and explained the menu to us, in impressive detail. She knew exactly how everything seemed to be cooked as I’ll admit we did grill her a little regarding what comes with each meal as I have been hurt before on a dining experience. But, nevertheless, she was like an encyclopaedia, either that or she’s a fantastic poker player. Anyway, I’m getting off track, I ordered the Sizzling Duck sharer as the taste of fowl was fresh on my mind and my hunting days were behind me. So, I thought I’d embrace my sudden nostalgia and so the order was placed. It came out The duck. Sweet Mary and Joseph, this duck was possibly the nicest slice of fowl I have ever eaten, and that’s including the lawsuit I had to shake off from Disney after getting a little too close to Donald. I could eat this duck all day every day, it was so tender and crispy. I can’t praise it enough. Hoisin sauce, spring onions and pancakes! It was like my duck had been marinating in a stew of flavour. I’ll admit, I morne that duck. Probably more than one should. But, in my grief, a new love for this restaurant was borne and it was all down to the manager and the kitchen for cooking us such a good meal. The rest of the food was also fantastic but i find my mind is often with the duck. In the end, our server gave us the bill as I think lindsey was busy with another table, we exchanged pleasantries regarding our food and drinks and we left. And yet, Lindsey still had the time to acknowledge our departure, thank us for coming and wish us well. My friends tell me to let it go. But they didn’t try the duck. They don’t understand. An absolute credit to the company, Lindsey was and I hope she is there on my next visit and she made our experience what is was, and what it was was unforgettable. Thus ends the tale of Lindsey and the Sizzling Duck! P.S. I feel like the barman needs a shout out also, I didn’t get his name but he had a beard and glasses. He made me an Old Fashioned cocktail nice enough to revive the libido of a devout nun.

We were a party of five, who had travelled from opposite ends of the country to meet halfway in this delightful venue. We had afternoon tea, followed by dinner, and three of us stayed the night. Despite the covid-restrictions, everything was very well-organised but not intrusive. There was a choice of attractive places to sit for our food and drinks, and the evening meal was delicious.

A superb late Sunday afternoon anniversary lunch was made very pleasant by the excellent staff and surroundings. We chose this venue for our wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. The Service is excellent and the food good. We chose the carve yourself option, the only slight downside was the roasters tasted “kept”. Otherwise all great.

This time we were in the Westminster Suite and as per usual winderful service, wonderful food and the entertainment was fantastic. Unlimited sandwiches, cakes and scones with jam and clotted cream. A fantastic choice of teas and coffee which were brought to the table with politness and a smile. Refills were plentiful. This is our forth time for Afternoon Tea with Lola and wether in the Cellar or as in the Westminster we love this place and will recommend it to anybody with great gusto. Lola is only there a few times a year and you can have a fantastic time with her. Her shows are a sellout and worth every penny. We ate dinner here on a Saturday night when staying at Weston Hall and it was very busy, very noisy and we were surprised at how popular it seemed to be. The service was incredibly slow. The food was OK but not really as described on the menu (for instance my “curried monkfish with Bombay potatoes” appeared to have no spice in it at all and the “vegan apple crumble” didn’t seem to have any apple in it). All in all a not very inspiring meal and we couldn’t understand why there seemed to be so many people there.

We visited here for afternoon tea on a Saturday as a treat for my birthday. Unfortunately the place was heaving and we were given a small table by the stairs/loos. A shame as it was tucked away and not really very special, lacking the atmosphere of the main rooms. The food was delicious indeed but no one mentioned we could have our sandwiches topped up?!!!! Apparently so. We would have loved more. The cakes were delicious too and a lovely touch of a cake to take home. We’d have gladly eaten more sandwiches. Service was pleasant but so so. I just wish we’d had a more attentive experience as it seems it could be better. We just missed out :-( I wouldn’t rush back for fear of a similar experience.

We'd booked afternoon tea with friends for 2.30. After being shown to our table (nice comfortable seats, a roaring fire - very welcome on a dank December afternoon), we were brought a menu about ten minutes later, and then left alone. The waitress never returned. In the meantime, a party which had arrived after us had been served with tea and food, at which point my wife went in search of our waitress, although we were then served by someone else. It was eventually 25 minutes after we arrived that our hot drinks arrived, and a full half hour after being seated that food was brought to our table. Very disappointing. The food itself was fantastic, the ladies had the traditional afternoon tea, while we menfolk had the gentlemens' version, pork pie, mustard, black pudding scotch egg, beef cob, piccalilli, crackers, pork scratchings and ham hock terrine, delicious and very filling. Plentiful refills of drinks and extra sandwiches were freely given. An enjoyable afternoon, but the long wait after we arrived was a big minus.

The food was all good a special mention to the eggnock cheesecake..amazing! Just returned from an evening meal at The Cellar. The building and its' decorations are absolutely stunning. We were a party of four and generally our food was ok. I chose chocolate swiss roll for my dessert and was unable to eat it as it was very dry.I mentioned this to the waitress....who said that she would see what could be done. In turn she told the manager.I was very disappointed to discover that no attemp was made to address my complaint. When the bill arrived with a £4 charge for said dessert we questioned it?The manager apologizes was the answer.Well....I am not poorly off for £4. BUT, when we had spent a decent sumfor food and drink an apology was a bit of a mean reply. This kind of action certainly makes me think twice about returning!!!!

Very small portions, ladies tea mostly seemed to contain shop bought type cakes. Gentleman's tea would not fill a child up. The pork scratchin was inedible, couldn't even cut with knife, you have more joy chewing your belt. Very disappointed, there are many better teas available locally for far less money. I think they don't bother thinking the venue sells itself, wrong.

The location is stunning but we were very disappointed with our experience at The Cellar. I would not recommend going for lunch on Saturday as the whole restaurant seemed to be geared for Afternoon Tea. On arrival, we had to wait to be given a table as nothing had been allocated even though we had booked weeks in advance. We were tucked into an obscure corner at table for 6. We then complained and were moved to a better location. But the service was random and staff were not allocated to specific tables so there was no continuity. We felt we were not important compared with the afternoon tea diners. eg our coffees were left on the side and we had to remind the staff that we were waiting and they explained that they were very busy, but that was no excuse. The food was reasonably good although the mushy peas were cold. We were not really enjoying the experience but further complaints seemed to be pointless as there was no attempt by the senior manager in the restaurant to see if we were happy with our experience after our initial complaints. Staff were not engaged with their work . Would not recommend.

Absolutely disgusted with the Staff’s attitude, very rude waiters, and it doesn’t give the best impression for visitors visiting Staffordshire for the first time!

A lovely venue, but a Sunday lunch that disappointed. Salmon terrine: OK. Fish of the day: a plate of pasta containing underdone prawns (‘Er, I ordered market fish of the day.’ ‘That’s how we’re serving it today.’) Black beef - cooked slightly pink as ordered - tasted good…or at least, the morsel I managed to separate from the surrounding gristle did; the vast majority was completely inedible. (A shame: a lot of cooking and good meat ruined by ridiculously bad carving.) Puddings: again, just OK. Service was friendly but not very efficient. And then…oh dear: a quiet post-prandial tea in the lounge shattered by a bloke in a top hat belting out music at a level that prevented conversation. Not a great experience.

We booked here using gift vouchers for Afternoon tea with my mum, sister and daughter. Arrive early but was taken straight to out table we order our choice of teas and a soft drink for my daughter, while we viewed the sandwich selection. We requested if we could adjust the sandwiches like no cream cheese on the cucumber sandwiches and some of the beef without the horseradish and they had no problems with this and then they replenish when we had eaten them all. Then we order another cup of tea to accompany the beautiful selections of cakes and my favourite was scones with jam and clotted cream. It was all amazing well presented, tested amazing. The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. Would recommend and would love the come back for an evening meal.

Moved to table around 19:30 then had long wait for starters. Starters were really good and anticipated same for mains, however 3 of us had fish and chips and we all left most of it batter was soggy, cod really chewy and chips hard, cold and inedible, 1 person had steak which they thought about average. We love this building,it is absolute stunning set in the Staffordshire countryside. We have visited many times including my wife's 50th birthday. We thought we would treat ourselves to an afternoon tea- we thought it was very average. The sandwiches had very little filling and the cakes were not very inspiring. The scones, cream and jam were very good. We had ordered two gentleman's and two tradditional afternoon teas. I asked if the sandwiches on the normal afternoon tea could be swapped for the beef cob on the gentlemans afternoon tea and was told no. Then the sandwiches came out wrong and the surly waitress said it was not her fault but chefs. We have had many afternoon teas over the years, non in such a stunning setting but we have had many that are a lot better to taste.

We went here for my aunties 50th birthday party. When we entered they seated us (no menus). So they then came to take our drinks order which we gave..however it would have been nice to have a menu to look at drinks from. We waited quite a long time for our starters. I can say do not order the goose liver parfait. It was tasteless. I had food envy here for the scallops. Looked like the best thing on the menu. Most of the mains were great. The lobster tortellini however was not great. My auntie found shell and there was only 8 pieces. My auntie and husband who both had this dish were hungry and devoured other people's left overs. The desserts were all great. We loved the fondue and everyone else enjoyed their desserts. The service was really slow and constantly had to ask for things more than once. Overall some of the party enjoyed the food others enjoyed one or two courses. Wouldn't necessarily go back in a hurry. If I did it would be scallops and duck and fondue.
