We fully intended trying this restaurant upon a return visit to Clevedon. Situated on the popular Hill Road with its eclectic range of independent shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs. Mary's is a beautiful Mediterranean style corner restaurant retaining evidence of its former life as an apothecary and shouts "come in." A range of tapas and main meals. Decent linen napkins. Unfortunately a choice of tapas of mine was unavailable. Understandable but the waitress should make diners aware of items that are not available in advance. That said we both opted for the fish pie which was very good. Reasonable prices. We could not understand the pretentious decanting of a bottle of chardonnay into a jug. I asked at the end of the meal, prior to paying, if she would call a taxi for us. She merely handed out a taxi business card. It was a very quiet evening. When the bill arrived there was a presumptuous 10% service charge. We always find this irritating and on this occasion had it removed. Three stars overall which to be fair should be 4 /5.🇬🇧🇳🇿

Booked very last minute as we were already out for drinks. Fortunately it was early evening so we managed to reserve a table, by the time we left it was full. Delicious tapas with generous amounts of bread which was needed to mop up the sauces! Hadn’t been here for a long time but won’t leave it so long again. Friendly and efficient service.

Brilliant Restaurant! Really enjoyed all the tapas we chose and the best was baked Camembert to share. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Made our dog feel really welcome and gave her some treats! Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will visit again when next in the area

Myself and the Mrs have been long overdue a date night , plus a belated birthday and anniversary meal, so we decided to try Mary's and well........ A lovely welcome at the door and shown straight to our seat (we did book) , great ambiance and decor. Drinks selection, a fantastic choice of wines to choose from and in sizes from small glass to a litre carafe, The NZ Sauvignon blanc, although a little privey, you pay for what you get , 10/10 and would highly recommend. The menu, great choices for tapas and a few mains on there as well, we elected to share tapas, very good portions and flavour profile was fantastic, from the hummus to the meatballs. however the camembert to share stole the show, with both ciabatta and warm pitta to dunk and a fantastic chutney , it was a absolute delight. The service, from as soon as we walked through the door to us leaving, the team there didn't fault once, very friendly, attentive, polite and welcoming. I would recommend Mary's to anyone who enjoys great food, great service and a great time.

Visited here for lunch today. We didn’t have a booking but were welcomed and given a choice of tables. It soon started to get busier. Nice ambience and decor a talking point on its own. We chose Tapas dishes to share, Tapas is not huge portions that is the point , so looking at the prices versus the portion size they were reasonable. We chose 4 dishes maybe should have gone for 5. The chorizo was just that , warm sliced spicy chorizo. The patatas bravas was disappointing, not crispy , in fact some were not cooked, the sauces could have been spicier and more garlicky. The gambas a new dish came with delicious fresh bread to soak up the garlic dressing, unfortunately the prawns were a little dry and tough , the sauce again not full of flavour. The meatballs were really nice and the sauce spicy. We had wine by the glass, nice choices maybe a Spanish white should be on the menu? But quite pricey for a glass. The service was as attentive as it could be as there were only two people running the show, both very pleasant. It was pleasant but could be better on the flavours.

We were incredibly disappointed with Mary’s. Two of our group had eaten here a few years ago and said it was lovely. However, the portions were tiny and the service was not only slow, but most of the staff were also quite rude. The food tasted nice (hence the 2 stars) but the tapas sizes were so small and stingy - for example for the meatballs you get 6 tiny meatballs and with the hummus you get 4 tiny slices of pitta.. there was so much hummus wasted as we didn’t have enough pitta! The slices of bread were also tiny and when we asked for more we were brought a new tapas plate of the tiny bread slices and aioli which would have cost another £4. Overall, very disappointed with the food and service - I won’t be going back.

I took 3 adult grandchildren there on December 12th and was really disappointed. It was very busy because there was live music so service was incredibly slow. I certainly wouldn’t have booked had I known, obviously that music appeals to many but we just found it intrusive making conversation difficult. I have been to Mary’s many times but not sure about returning, certainly not on Tuesday evenings.

Mary’s has long been one of our local “go to” venues and we have previously been very satisfied. Having not visited for a little while our lunch experience today was disappointing bordering on unsatisfactory. We do not make a habit of writing unsatisfactory reviews but, as retirees with money to spend, we expect to receive an element of hospitality rather than hostility. We got the impression that the staff in attendance today would rather have been doing something else, somewhere else. Service appeared to be “a lot of trouble “. Specifically, whilst the food was satisfactory, presentation was not great and I could have made better looking fish cakes (my partners choice) myself! We were not asked whether our meals were satisfactory, whether we would like a dessert or whether we would like coffee. When it came to settle the bill, I was expected to pay the total without being given a breakdown of the cost; I demurred until a till receipt was provided. After we left Mary’s we visited 5, The Beach in Clevedon for coffee and a desert and received the usual lovely reception. I never thought that we would have to say this but we will think very seriously about whether we choose to eat out at Mary’s again.

This is the third time I have been here for a birthday meal, this time my 85th. The seating and ambience had changed, seated next to the door although it wasn't full. Food was ok but service very bad and my son refused to pay the service charge. After the tapas starters and main courses ordered we were asked if we would like desserts. Replied yes but after our main courses, which were checked up on. After main courses we ordered desserts but before they came we were presented with the bill. One hand didn't know what the other one was doing. Obviously will not be going there again for a celebration. Such a shame as it had, until now, always delivered. Also the clientele were quite noisy.

Not the place it used to be. We were frequent visitors but standards have definitely declined. Cheaper liqueurs. Drinks not chilled. Staff not as accommodating as they were. Subtle changes to menus and portion size. Looks like they are on a cost cutting exercise.

Very disappointing. We booked an early 6 O'clock table for our Mother's 89th birthday ,as we had arranged a surprise party for 8 pm at another venue . The waiting staff were friendly. We were given water and our order was taken by 6.10pm There was only one other table occupied at that time. By 7.10pm, we still had no food. I went to the counter to ask if we'd been forgotten or if we were actually getting our food. The staff were very apologetic and looked embarrassed. We were offered some bread as compensation.....not particularly great compensation for over a hours wait !! At 7.20pm, we finally received our tapas which were I can only describe as being mediocre. It was all very disappointing as Mary's had been recommended to us. Later in the evening, friends told us they'd stopped going to Mary's as they too had to wait for over an hour for food. It was such a shame being a special occasion for our dear Mother.

We booked in for tapas and wine and it did not disappoint. The ambiance in Mary's is fantastic with lovely decor , vintage pharmacy items and great chilled music. Reasonably priced wines and tapas. Our only criticism would be the whipped feta that was really watery and not really for dipping. We had a fabulous evening, thank you. Barb and Si Andersen

A great little wine bar and restaurant in Clevedon, well worth a visit. This was our 2nd time and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Freshly cooked food, plenty of gluten free and dog friendly. I had the fish pie which was gluten free and the best I have ever had. It’s perfect for couples, friends or celebrations. Very good selection of wines by the glass, bottle or carafe. We will definitely be going again when we are next in Clevedon.

The wine list, for a wine bar, was very disappointing. Only 4 whites and 3 reds to choose from. The service started off well but was non existent once we ordered our food. We had a chicken and chorizo paella which had very little flavour and the rice was so overcooked it was just a claggy mush. When our plates were eventually tidied away and we were asked how the food was, I gave an honest opinion and was told 'I didn't think it looked great!'. No offer of money off or anything. Generally we were very disappointed and will not be going back as there is a much better wine bar just over the road.

A really nice evening at this restaurant. I have been here quite a few times over the years. I've learnt from the staff that the previous owner has sadly passed away and the restaurant is now run by her daughter. I'm pleased that the restaurant has stayed in the family. Staff were friendly and attentive without being over fussy. Food was lovely. Maybe portion size is slightly small if you only want one main course. Atmosphere good with chilled jazz bubbling away in the background. I like it, been here often and will continue to come back when in area

Ate here last week and ordered the veggie burger. It's served with chips but they were absolutely laden with SALT, so much that I could brush it off!! I don't understand why the chef had to put it on. It's the customer who does it. We all know that salt is bad but to have it poured over my chips BEFORE my meal came to the table, is crazy. If anyone reads this, I'd recommend that you ask for salt not to be added to your chips. I couldn't eat mine. 😞

Well where do I start with this one, we had very high hopes for this restaurant and had walked past it the night before as I'd booked it before we left and thought wow that's busy, windows open and really buzzing.... Unfortunately the reality for us was very different, we arrived early but we're shown to our seats, the restaurant is stunning but has zero ambience, run by extremely young people that had no customer service skills, not engaging and quite robotic, we ordered drinks, within that order was 2 bottles of wine but jugs came instead, but that's fine, wine was not great which is quite surprising for an Argentinian Malbec... We were still waiting for our tapas starters 45 minutes later, my friend asked the girl waitress and she said we have a back log sorry your food will be here next, then she proceeded to go behind the bar and my friend saw her say something derogatory! 5 starters came out and mine was delivered just before my friends finished theirs, which isn't great considering it was hummus and warm pitas. Mains came out soon after 2 beef bourginon which was OK, I've had better but it was OK, 2 fish pies which apparently was very good a paella the rice was so stodgy and it was a chicken and chorizo, the chorizo was black The worse meal was the fish cakes, they came and we're a bit burnt on top, I said to my friend turn them over.... Well they were black and inedible, the chips were salted so much my friend couldn't eat them, this meal was taken off the bill, the bill was asked for and it had drinks we'd not had on it and so it was changed and it became dearer, I have no clue how so we just paid and left. We all feel this restaurant could be a little gold mine with proper customer service trading, adding soft music and better ambience and communication is key, if the waitress had told us about the back log then we woukd of understood but to ignore us is unacceptable , I mean if you are a wine and tapas bar you woukd like to think those two things are your forte right?

Our first trip to Clevedon and we were trying to decide where to go for lunch and walked up and down Clevedon's high street. We landed on this gem (currently called Mary's). The staff were very professional, helpful, and welcoming. They accurately described the dishes available and set our expectations of when we could order food from (we arrived an hour before the kitchen opened). We ordered 6 tapas items and they were phenomenally delicious. I thought the value for money was exceptional. 6 tapas and two drinks came to about £35 and the quality of the food was immense. We agreed that it was the best tapas we've ever eaten! Can't wait to return and see what their paella is like next! Fantastic spot for lunch, evening meal, and a fancy celebration. Can't recommend it highly enough.

We were staying 3 nights in Clevedon and were looking for somewhere to eat the day we arrived and found the Cellar. The small dishes which can act as either starters or a proper tapas meal are a very good idea. I had the chorizo and some tortillas and an excellent salsa and my wife had a very nice cauliflower cheese. Despite booking 2 weeks in advance, we were initially given an enormous table right by the front door which was completely the wrong height for the bench next to it. After sitting there just long enough to order drinks, we asked if we could move to a different table. The waitress agreed it wasn't a very nice table and said we were the second couple that evening to ask to move after being seated there. She wasn't sure if any other tables were available "because people book them", but as it turned out, there was one other available - equally enormous but tucked away at the back of the room by the kitchen door instead - so we accepted. (During our visit we observed at least one other couple be seated at our first table and then ask to move. Maybe worth a rethink?!) Anyway we ordered 8 different tapas dishes which I'm sorry to say were fairly average, although the calamari was delicious. Throughout the evening our waitress was not unpleasant but had a very odd informal and not particularly professional manner, almost as though we were "mates" rather than paying customers. The place itself is rather dark, dingy and grubby, and quite uncomfortable if you're sat on a bench that's too high for the table. Overall: okay food, not great service, and disappointing ambience. Won't return.

One could just sit with a book; the Cellar is a safe place to unwind and relax. There is a choice of one ale (Bath Gem) or one lager (San Miguel) or a multitude of wonderful wines. The decor is beautiful, and the staff are kind and welcoming. The menu tends towards favourites, so don't be expecting to push boundaries, but if you're after a well-presented meal in pleasant surroundings, I'd recommend the Cellar. The decor is wonderful, the WC makes you feel like you're Alice in Wonderland, and the bingy-boingy thing on the door (that goes off whenever ingress or egress occurs) is really annoying. The ambient temperature is towards the lower end of the scale, so take a cardigan/leather jacket/waistcoat (depending on your sartorial proclivity). The espresso is absolutely weapons-grade, for which the Cellar should be highly-commended. Lovely.

I had a couple of meals here. Just by chance this restaurant was close to a hotel I was staying in. The restaurant is also a wine shop and a pub/bar in an old chemist building and the mish mash of being all things to all men actually works. Normally these types of things don't work, but this does. The staff are very good at their jobs and friendly too. The atmosphere is very relaxed and I instantly felt comfy and at home in here. Food is Mediterranean of a sort, but I would say it's a bit more general than that. But that's OK, as it's all top notch. I'd like to give 5, but I can't only because I personally felt that the portion sizes was a bit small. Maybe put the price up a couple of quid and have bigger portions I would suggest. But, I really liked it and would certainly recommend a nice meal here.

We opted to eat from the tapas menu, selecting 6 dishes for the two of us, which proved to me more than enough. Everything was piping hot, nicely flavourful and served by friendly staff, Food was accompanied with a range of fizz, wine and rounded off with a couple of liquers. The meal came in at about £60, which included 6 drinks. All in all, a lovely place and one we will happily return to when we are next in the area.

We came here for a special lunch after a family funeral. The welcome was perfect, a great drinks menu, varied & delicious food and wonderful service. All this for a very reasonable price. One of Clevedons gems.

Never eaten here before but an absolute gem. Fabulous salmon fish cakes. Also available are tapas which (although not authentic Spanish tapas) still looked good.

We were staying in Clevedon and as it was my birthday, decided to give driving a miss so I could enjoy a pint or two with lunch. Well we walked for hours in this glorious little Seaside Town and then made our way into the Town itself heading for The Cellar, as it had a fair few good reviews on several site. We arrived at 13;30 and were greeted warmly by Georgie (I hope I have that right), we had the pick of several tables and we sat and looked over the Menu. I did not fancy a plain Berr, so asked for a suggestion. "What about a Rhubard Gin"? asked Georgie. Well, I am no spring chicken but I have never had Gin in my laie before but she said it was popular and that with a Ginger Ale, it made a nice refreshing Drink. I was sold. So we set about ordering the Food. It all sounded very good. I settled for a Tapas consisting of 3 seperate dish's, all were just superb, with the Cauliflower and Cheese Sauce worth a special mention. My wife had the Cod, Prawn and Scallop Fish Pie, which again was spectacular. Highly recomended....

Called in for lunch, stood for a while before anyone noticed us, was told we could sit anywhere we wanted. Waited again at the table and decided to just go and order some wine at the bar asked what White Burgundy they had. Women serving said none, but suggested a pinot grigio. So seems staff have absolutely no knowledge of wine, or at just told to recommend whatever they happen to have to hand. We left.

When the sea front is heaving, come here for coffee, lunch or just a glass of wine. It is a refuge from the concerns of the day. Great place, great people, love the decor.

We popped in here yesterday to book for tonight, the staff were very welcoming and accommodating as indeed they were tonight. The food was fast, tasty and of excellent quality. We had the table of our choice and were very impressed with the quality of the decor and general ambience. The food and drink were reasonably priced, the Tapas choices were excellent. Highly recommended.

The Cellar used to be an old pharmacy from what I remember; indeed, there are still some old cabinets there. It’s winderfully old fashioned with leather chairs and has a lovely atmosphere. Food really nice - we both had the tortilla chips and the boeuf bourginon- really good. Just a nice meal out in a lovely setting

I organised.a surprise 50th Birthday party for my husband here in the downstairs room at the Cellar, it was a fantastic venue, offering privacy for the party, our own space. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, everything ran smoothly and it was a very enjoyable and memorable evening. Thank you to the Cellar, we look forward to future visits.

We are local to The Cellar and often pop to Hill Road, we really want to like this place and we keep giving it the benefit of the doubt. It’s the staff, and particularly the owner, so rude and miserable EVERY time. It’s definitely not a warm and welcoming place and not a smile in sight, ever! We spent a significant amount of money there last night and she was, as usual, as miserable as sin and I’m so fed up with it every time we visit I decided that it will be the last time. Plus it spurred me to write a review. Avoid avoid avoid .... walk down the road a little further to the friendly and welcoming pubs and eateries further along Hill Road it will be worth it!

We have taken to dropping in at lunchtime for a glass of wine and tapas or a light lunch . We love the ambiance of The Cellar .It has a relaxed atmosphere somewhat reminiscent of a French café .The food has proved to be very tasty with a strong Mediterranean leaning ,always acceptable when well done and it is well done in this establishment . We took some friends with us for lunch today and they were charmed by the atmosphere and friendly staff and ,most importantly, the food and wine . Here's to next visit .

Wonderful experience in this kebab shop, food was hot and yummy. The staff was very friendly and gave me a free drink. I ordered a large chicken kebab and pizza. Wonderful taste to the chili sauce and extra spicy just how I like it. Will be ordering again! Thank you for making the best kebab in weston

looks nothing like how it does online. its completely remodelled with a new menu and an entirely different name called “scottys tapas”. before you go here just keep in mind that whatever menu you see online will be different in person. i can say however that the waiter that approached us was informative and friendly.
