The Castle - Pub and Kitchen in Nottingham

Very nice place, great food and amazing staff service. Definitely recommend this place.

I'd do this every day of my life if I could.

This old pub has been started up to make students friendly. It lost all of its charm and atmosphere, bar person was very unenthusiastic.

Great place to have a meal and a drink. With the view of the castle walls opposite.

What's not to like. Hot day, cold beer, outdoor seating and good company. Been here many times and always a pleasant atmosphere inside or out.. Selection of gins but didn't see any castle gin. Bit of a surprise as it's the best one I think. Popped in again, just as welcoming and wholesome as ever.

Overlooked by the castle, slightly olde world.

We were doing a treasure hunt at Nottingham, and chose to go in the castle pub, as they had 2 Sunday roast course for 19.95, the food was all made nothing looked as though it was frozen food, I had chicken and my partner had beef. The puddings were just as lovely and we had a drink each. I think we will go here again when we visit Nottingham.

We had a very pleasant time in this pub facing Nottingham Castle. The portions are very generous and tasty. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is very pleasant. Many choices of gins and beers.

We only drank 2 pints, which were very good, and we even got to taste them

Long wait but great service, we took the sandwich + side + drink deal and it was absolutely delicious, I recommend the buttermilk chicken sandwich and the side of ring onions. All in a lovely street 10 meters from Nottingham Castle.

Had a Sunday roast outside the bar and attempted to also have some desert (failed due to eyes bigger than stomach). Wonderful staff who were attentive, professional and lovely to interact with. Had another pint inside as I waited patiently for the food to digest.

Place is run by grumpy poison dart frogs who leave unacceptable heads on pints. Someone tell them it's a pub and not an HR department

Stopped here after we had seen the castle, and it wasn't a disappointment. We had the lunch special, sandwich side and soft drink,and it was the best sandwich I've had. Tbh I was expecting just plain white bread for my chicken club, but it came in foccocia bread, and it made the biggest difference in taste. The staff were friendly and welcoming and they loved our dog ( yes dog friendly too) Thankyou for making our short visit to Nottingham a good one

The pub looked really nice from the outside. We went inside to order. I asked one question about a particular item on the menu,.. the lady behind the till not only rolled her eyes, but was so rude in her response that I personally didn't order anything. The food for my family arrived fairly promptly and was good according to them. The same waitress showed no interest at all, merely dumping the utensils on the end of the table whilst she walked past. The saving grace of this establishment were all the other staff who were very pleasant.

Feet get wet downstairs due to road work

Honestly, I hate giving bad reviews. I was (un)welcomed by frankly quite hostile bar staff. The beer was quite good, although at 7 quid a pint, you would hope so. As for the food, I didn't think I could go wrong with a cheese and chutney sandwich. Turns out I was very wrong, half a jar of chutney on dried up focaccia is not pleasant. Barmaid: was everything ok? Me: well, it was a bit heavy on the chutney, and there wasn't really any cheese. Barmaid: *smiles* so would you like anything else? So no, I wouldn't recommend. Unless you really like chutney sandwiches.

Cashless - no thanks. Ordered drinks with £10 in my hand. They would not accept it. Had no card with me, so had to leave the drinks on the bar. Won't be going there again.

Very quaint pub on Portovello Road. The place is well kept, the service is friendly (which is not easy to find in London). Burgers recommended 🍔. If you are looking for a pub that has local beers and a nice atmosphere you will find them here! The only thing if you want to have dinner is better to show up before 8pm otherwise you risk finding the kitchen closed.

Must have walked past this place a hundred times over the years ,My wife and I called in last weekend and had some food ,brilliant pub.A proper hidden gem,will be on our regular list when in Nottingham .

Absolutely amazing place, great food and drinks in reasonable prices. Anyway, for us it was all about atmosphere and it’s one of the most cosy places I ever been in, me and my bro just felt very comfortable down there. Music is not as loud as the other places but still keeping you in a vibe. Cheers from Polish lads

Great atmosphere. The food was good although the menu was a bit limited.

Spent £19 on a chicken roast and a soft drink which were good but the food took an hour and a half to arrive. The server was nice and kept assuring us it was coming but we were starving by the time it arrived. We still had to pay full price and we didn’t receive an apology for the wait time. Wont be back for a Sunday roast

Very friendly staff. Great location opposite Nottingham castle & robin hood statue,but close enough to city centre so you can get to by bus,tram & taxis. Didn't have food on this occasion.

The only thing is wrong with it is the toilets 🚻 are downstairs so not Disable freindly

One of my favourite pubs in Nottingham. Great beer with lots of variety. The staff are really friendly. It’s a great atmosphere and nice and interesting decor. There was a live singer on Thursday evening and she was really good.

Pub serving food and real ales, immediately opposite of entrance to Nottingham Castle. Also near the city centre. Not too busy when I visited, but tables can be reserved.

Really good vegan pizza!! We loved the selection of board games and books whilst waiting for food, and the staff were sweet.

Fantastic pub, was there when it was busy. We had booked a table which they very kindly got ready for us earlier than the time we booked. The food was great, good starter and great burgers. Would thoroughly recommend.

Only popped in for a drink to meet up with friends. However a very friendly member of staff Georgina recommended the food and mentioned a table available in the corner, so we stayed for most of the evening. Can recommend the Sunday roast here and you won’t be waiting ! No matter how busy they are, the staff service and food great!!! Thanks Georgina …keep up the good work

We had an amazing work Christmas dinner.

Lovely atmosphere. Table games available so as we started a game of Jenga, people at other tables started doing Connect 4 and Frustration. What a great evening!

This has to be one of Nottinghams better pubs. Even though it was showing the world cup with no sound (a bonus), and the music being played was background noise as opposed to thumping bass that you have to shout over. Great beer and comfortable surroundings. So good we went back on Sunday for a mulled wine and food. Will definitely visit again.

Spoke to the staff before arriving and they confirmed that food can be ordered until 19:50. Arrived at 19:40 and the kitchen is closed… very poor communications and customer service.

What a lovely pub this is. Only had enough time for a couple of pints but next time I'll be staying for longer. Nice decor and features throughout. I'd certainly recommend a visit.
