Great pub with very nice service 😀

Lovely pub, really friendly staff. Good food as well, plenty of choice. We had jacket potatoes with chilli and a salad - the chef clearly takes care as it was perfectly seasoned and well presented.

Had a lovely Sunday Roast with friends, very friendly hostess, great food. They are very dog friendly and had a really good dog roast as well, which our pup enjoyed a lot. Will be returning again!!!

Haven't tried their food yet but their beer is always fresh and they serve you quickly and professionally! If you've visited the Castle (the actual one) and fancy a pint after - definitely come here.

Nice pub right next to Colchester Castle. Really wish it had a better garden for the summer months. The rarely-see-it-used extension blocks the view of the actual castle which is a shame, but maybe its restricted given how close it is..? Food is good with good drink selection. Doggo friendly too. Overall a nice place.

Been a few times now for a roast on a sunday. And I must say it's the best roast dinner iv had outside of home. All quality fresh produce 👌

It's a pub, nice as any other I suppose, but then the quality of pubs in the UK is rapidly deteriorating and I think it's necessary to hold them to account. £6 for a pint is a London price, and it may be acceptable if the rest of the experience was worth it, but you still have to order at the bar, and the food is decent but nothing to write home about, again, especially for the price. Colchester is a tourism hub and I'd expect to see better quality at this price point right next to the castle, either that or a reduction in price. Aside from this, the staff were very friendly, the place was clean, and the furniture comfortable. + pet friendly 👌🏼

Had our wedding here in March and the experience was perfect! Staff were so friendly and helpful, every guest said the food was amazing (and generous portions). Will definitely be visiting regularly.

I haven't been here in years and was pleasantly surprised to find it has been completely revamped with a light and clean decor. It was a lovely space to spend time catching up with friends. Great selection of drinks. Dog friendly Menu with plenty of choice

A great place for a drink and food

Pretty pleased with our dinner at the Castle Inn . Most places were closed on Monday so it was a pleasant find. Came in for the burger and bottle special. Good deal. The food was good. Service was also good. Would return.

There is a very cute curly hair man served me cheeky smile and very warming and charming... atmosphere was relaxing and delightful as a chef my self I am very fussy and normally find fault in most things but the reason behind my review is I am speechless with the skill of the chef who made my food and they deserve some credit as it was made to professional level and amazing flavours served hot and I really couldn't fault a thing mouth watering thank you so much I am one happy customer for sure ..the level of food here is outstanding and they have definitely gone the extra mile and paid attention to detail well done guys

I visited this pub in Collchester on Monday, 18th April 2022 This pub served a good range of hand pumped ales from national breweries Pub had a large, clean drinking room And for a town centre pub it had an excelent outside drinking area,which I sat in. Great helpfull staff on my visit a tad expensive but in pre covid days """such is life"". Friday 12th January 2024 I've come to this pub today since my last visit. The quality of real ale is still the same, but my god, the cost has gone up to well over 5 pound.50 a 30% rise in cost this is disgusting I will not use it again sadly

Management are absolutely fantastic , makes you feel welcome and recommended a new lager for me to try with a sample, the area outside is excellent and well maintained to a high standard. The actual bar area is beautifully finished with a modern / rustic charm. Brilliant selection of beers and spirits including Japanese whiskies.

Ducked in out of a snowstorm. Nice bit of lunch, and Patricia was really welcoming.

Nice dog friendly pub just outside the castle grounds, dogs are welcome both inside and out. The food and beer were both excellent, A really nice pub with great staff made both us and our dog very welcome.

Patricia and her loyal staff have one thing in common, they will go out of their way to give the customer the service, friendliness, cleanliness,and respect that they deserve, the beer and food are incredible, altogether making you visit a trip to remember for a very long time. Excellent.

Lovely place, simply a perfect pub in the centre of Colchester. Tasty and plentiful food, great beer choices with no less than three Timothy Taylor's ales! The barmaid was very friendly and had great advice on local tourist attractions. The pub looks proper, and even has a wonderful terrace with a view overlooking the main street and Castle Park. Will come back, for sure!

Lovely restaurant. The manager is such a lovely person. The food never misses, and whilst eating, you get an amazing selection of songs. I almost slept off whilst eating.😂

Service is great. it gets busy so if you are wanting to sit at a table I suggest getting there early.

For the price the food was beyond good. Seriously, it was worth much more than we paid. Service was great although they asked my 30 year old daughter for ID. 😉. Kidding. Well worth a visit.

Very quiet at the time of our visit !. It looked like a DJ was getting ready for later though !. Ours was a flying visit only stopping for the one pint ! . We were happy that they had a choice of two ales !.

Welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, absolutely amazing staff, cold beer and a perfect location. The food is delicious, well sourced and reasonably priced. I couldn't think of any way to show off Colchester without stopping by The Castle Inn at some point.

Took my Scottish mate in there Saturday night. Was empty. Loads of table and chairs. Right up my street. Got a couple of beers and a sausage roll. That was proper nice as well. Showed my mate the castle in the dark an aw. Very underrated boozer.

Great selection of beers including lots of different beaverton and good tasty vegan options ,outside seating, friendly helpful staff ,prices a it more for the area but worth it for the experience and location .

A relaxed pub that attracts customers of all ages. Even better in the summer when the outdoor seating can be used. Good selection of drinks that are well priced. A chilled glass corresponding to the selected drinks is typically offered. The bar is well staffed so getting served is always quick. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Haven't ever tried the food options but always looks good when viewed on other tables Fully recommend.

Just stopped 9ff for a quick pint but this could be my new "go to" Colchester pub. Loved it.

Food/breakfast is a little more expensive than other places but 100% is worth the extra due to the quality of the food and the service is top tier. The quote " you get what you pay for" is definitely applicable to this establishment. ☺️😋

First time visitors and not disappointed. lovely warm welcome for four adults, a two year old and our small dog. Water bowl brought out for our dog whilst we looked through the food options. Lovely food at reasonable prices and attentive staff. Nothing to fault, we'll definitely be back.

First time in over 25 years I’d been in the castle, I always known it as a “Drinkers” pub, had lunch today with friends and have to say it was superb. Highly recommend it 👌🏼
