Visited the cafe before a trip to the castle. Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Lovely atmosphere and cafe was warm and inviting on a cold January day. Coffees were made to perfection, as were the good and cakes. We will definately be back.

Stunning setting. Friendly staff. The food looked nice although it is a small menu. Only one gluten free option/cake that had nuts in it and therefore I just had a drink. Lots of uncleared tables at lunchtime and when they were cleared they were not wiped down. Bit icky. Would go again for atmosphere. Nice toilets!

I work round the corner from here. I visited today (braving the cobbles in the snow) for a cookie to go. I'm never disappointed. Leaving a review so as not to disappoint. 😄

Visited the cafe after a trip round the police museum. The interior is very modern but in keeping with the castle features, doors opened out onto an outside seating area which is very pleasant. Perfect for a summers day. Coffees are priced at about £3.10, there are sandwiches and cakes available. We purchased a latte, chocolate brownie and a diet coke but it was a different brand I'd never come across before, that didnt taste like coke. Staff were friendly and helpful and the service to the table was prompt. I would definitely return even though it was more expensive than other cafes , probably due to its location

This is a well situated cafe in the grounds of Lancaster Castle. ideal to grab a coffee or a quick bite while waiting for the castle tour to begin. The menu is very limited, just toasted sandwiches, cake and cookies but the food is very nice if a little pricey. That said this is a tourist spot so the prices probably reflect that. The building is an intersting blend of old and new but the large interior space had little atmosphere.

I am presuming that this is the small cafe in the grounds of Lancaster Castle. Apologies if I've got the wrong place. We have eaten here a couple of times and the food has been quite nice; however our last trip was very unsatisfactory for a quite different reason. When we went to order our food, the girl refused to serve us. because she said it was too late in the day and they were only doing take away. While I know it's quite normal for hot food to stop being served after a certain time, this is the first place I've come across which refused to serve tea and cakes. Also it was not actually that near its closing time, a good twenty five minutes before the Castle was due to shut, and also before the closing time listed on the cafe door. Lots of other people were still sitting around drinking coffee, which the girl said was ok, because they'd got there earlier. In the end we did get take away coffees and pecan tarts. These were actually quite nice, but awkward to eat balanced on a bench. We eat at a leisurely speed but had still finished these before the time the cafe closed. I really hope this cafe reviews this policy (if it is a policy, and not just the girl being awkward), as it spoils an otherwise nice place.

One of my favourite places to visit. Beautiful cafe, staff are always lovely and the food and drinks are excellent. Highly recommended.

The 4 star review reflects the food and drink quality even if a little overpriced. Tea, coffee and toasties tasted delicious. Sitting in the castle grounds on a warm day is lovely. The staff etiquette could improve however. One girl tried to clear my husbands coffee when clearly half finished then did the same with my tea, and another had quite an abrupt manner. It made us feel rushed. I would visit again but would hope to find the staff more professional and with basic customer service skills in place.

Excellent environment and friendly staff. High ceilings and big windows - would be a nice place to meet friends. We were pleased to have somewhere to sit after a tour of the castle. Unfortunately the coffee was both small and tasted quite unusual. My husband didn't actually even finish the small cup as he didn't like the taste. Perhaps you could offer a choice of 'standard' coffee that tastes normal and other fancy sorts for the more adventurous? My tea was weak - I initially thought I hadn't let it brew long enough - but even the 2nd cup & after I swirled the pot it wasn't that cracking. Brownie was acceptable, nice flavours. Clean and we'd probably give it a second chance if we visited the castle as it is so convenient.

We came here whilst we was waiting for our train. The ladies on the front desk on arrival were lovely. However our drinks arrived and they were cold. They offered to make a new one however when it was brought back the lady was rude questioning about things. Her manners were appalling she was very rude and i will not be returning. (The lady wearing a beanie hat) which may i add does not look professional in such a lovely building.

We grabbed a bite to eat here before going into the castle for a guided tour. The hot chocolate tasted delicious, dark and full of flavour, though it could have been hotter. The paninis and the brownies were to die for! The coffee and service were also great and the premises clean and welcoming, and the prices reasonable. We will definitely be back!

Service was nice & polite but the seating system is a bit of a mess. There are signs saying “we will assign a table when you order”. We ordered, got told to just “sit over there”. Ordered 2 coffees & 1 tea, we had finished the 2 coffees before the tea made it to the table. Cakes were nice, as was the coffee, but definitely need a tweak around the ordering / seating process…

The cafe is well located in the Castle Grounds which have been expensively renovated, however the cafe does not match the location. The cafe only does hot and cold drinks and snack food. I was told they do not do food in summertime. The staff are young, inexperienced, poorly trained and lack professionalism. They also appear to be a tad deaf as they had trouble hearing what I was saying. Coffee is served is small cups and is passable, The cheese toasty (the only savory food on offer) was an indicator of the sort of food range that the cafe ought to serve but for some reason does not.

The best coffee on Lancaster Campus. Brilliant staff, always quick and friendly. Reasonable prices and huge range of customizable drinks, along with delicious soups

We have visited in the past and always been reasonably happy. Today was not a good experience. The bread was stodgy for both the egg mayonnaise baguette and the rarebit. The egg was congealing and the ‘seasonal salad’ was just a mishmash of little bits! So rather expensive at £27.85 for the above plus two traybakes and a small pot of tea. Sadly highly unlikely to return.

Food it very low quality for the price you pay. The coffee I had was pretty watery, I do like my coffee so it is very important for me to experience good quality coffee.
