Crafty Scholar in Lancaster

Mighty Burger is inside The Crafty Scholar. They happily take your money and order, and keep putting your delivery time back. Zero communication why, when called they hadn't even begin to cook the order as there were no drivers. Absolutely Ridiculous! Don't even try and eat here. I am aware that the person I spoke to said that it's Just Eats who is in control of the drivers but Mighty Burger is very capable of picking up a phone and telling the customer who's money they've taken that they have no idea when the food will be ready and offer a refund.

The place has gone down hill lately, breakfast was like it was yesterday's warm up , no heating on , tables left uncleaned even though hardly anyone in and 3 staff behind the bar just talking amongst themselves, it's a shame it could be a decent place with a enthusiastic manager,

Great service from a very busy team, food arrived very quickly despite there being a large group on for food at the same time. Staff were very professional and welcoming.

En una encantadora noche cálida en septiembre en un mini descanso en Lancaster para ver a la familia, decidimos ir a tomar unas copas y luego ir a comer. Pasamos por este bar y se veía atractivo y de moda así que pensé en probarlo. Al entrar en el lugar olía a alfombra rancia y húmeda y el piso del área del bar era tan pegajoso que mis zapatos se pegaban a él. Me apoyé en la barra mientras mi esposo pedía nuestras bebidas y rápidamente me desapoyé mientras mi manga se pegaba a un parche misterioso. Decidimos sentarnos afuera en una de las pocas mesas. Mi bebida (vodka, lima y refresco) sabía a agua sucia de vajilla, así que la dejé. Entré a usar los baños, que estaban arriba. El olor era realmente malo allí arriba, como pies sudorosos. No nos molestamos en tomar otra copa y nos fuimos. Supongo que la alfombra está empapada de alcohol de un fin de semana ocupado y eso es lo que está causando el hedor, así que tal vez un buen limpiador de alfombras lo arreglaría. Pero el lugar está sucio. Y como era un miércoles y apenas estaba ocupado, la culpa era totalmente suya. Nunca comería nada desde aquí, ya que odiaría ver el estado de la cocina, si las áreas públicas son tan sucias. Podría ser un lugar encantador, nos sentimos atraídos por su aspecto, pero rápidamente se trasladó por la suciedad.

Spacious pub with decent food and drinks. Come here for big Sunday football match but it isn’t that busy. Good place to watch the game!

Walked into Lancaster from edge of City ( I'm disabled so walking is hard work) looking for somewhere to sit down and have a bite to eat, saw the sign for a lunch deal and went in. Girl at the bar taking orders was very friendly and helpful so I decided to order. Sat outside to cool down, service was prompt, friendly and efficient. When the food arrived, burger with chips and onion rings looked very good, chips were nice without blowing me away, burger was delicious with plenty of cheese and the burger sauce with pickles was sharp and tasty, very good burgers and the onion rings were absolutely top, crispy outside and melting inside very very good, would definitely recommend. Cant complain at all about food or service and I only saw one member of staff but she was excellent and would most definitely go here again if ever in Lancaster again.

The only place your feet don't stick to is the toilets ... use more soap in your mop bucket Floor's are disgusting

Cheap and cheerful, sport and music at night.

Food was poor pre cooked then warmed up served on plate definitely not good at all .

This is a friendly pub, great relaxed atmosphere through the week. Haven't been in of a weekend so can't comment on that. Bar staff are great, Kaitlin is so attentive. Even though I'm an occasional visitor every few weeks she remembers what I drink which makes me feel like I'm important. It's clean and tidy. Tables are always cleared quickly. Prices are extremely reasonable. Cheap in fact. My go to pub in Lancaster. Rate this pub highly. Of course I'll be back soon.

Had a fantastic time when I went to the Crafty Scholar this weekend. Luke and Eden served me and were very polite and helpful when I had questions about the drinks and menu options. I ordered the Katsu Chicken Curry with rice and peas and it was delicious! Would definitely recommend for families or for groups of varying size, and the drinks were good value as well. Thanks Crafty team!

Cuando llegamos nuestra reserva para 12 personas no había sido puesto en el libro, así que no nos esperaban. Will y Saf fue increíble la mesa organizada para que pudiéramos sentarnos todos juntos y el chef estaba preparado para nosotros. Así que ayudaron a ordenar la comida. Will y Saf hicieron todo lo posible para hacer nuestra visita especial y fue muy amable y educado ll el tiempo que estuvimos allí. Excelente atención al cliente. Bien hecho Will y Saf ty xx

Had food in here during the daytime was plentiful and tasty. Staff friendly too. Came back in the evening for drinks. Luke was such an attentive barman. Saw a dirty mark on my wine glass cleaned it straightaway. Told us all the deals. Luke is such a nice guy and an asset to the bar and thank you

Visited here yesterday it’s changed so much since our last visit, we were talking to Jay about how they have had a small refurb and the place looks fantastic. The service from Jay and Jack was top notch.

I visited with family for lunch. I have visited before and I can say that I've enjoyed both visits. The waiting time was short, the meals were all enjoyable, and TCS just has a nice feel about the place and layout. We'll all definitely be visiting again. We were served by a lovely member of staff, and if I had to give any negatives it's that my greed would've liked another handful of fries on the plate!

Came in for the Liverpool game today. The place was heaving yet Jason and will were laughing and joking with us. They wer running round like headless chickens but didn’t seem stressed at all. Jason especially seems to love what he does from talking to us while balancing plates and glasses to doing table service so my disabled friend didn’t have to get up. Such a lovely gentleman we will definitely remember him.

Was served by a very welcoming gentleman called Jason . His knowledge of the services offered was fantastic, very patient during order but also speedy and skilled when dealing with the requests , absolutely brilliant customer service from him!

Went to the Crafty Scholar today to meet family with my disabled daughter who has strict dietary requirements; she is seen by a dietitian at the hospital. When we go out to eat we always make her food before we go and take it with us to the venue. When ever I do this I tell the staff at which ever venue we are at that she is on a special diet and she will be eating her own food, I hope that is Okay and nobody ever has a problem with it. Today at the Crafty Scholar was different, I went up to the till to put in my order and I told them that my daughter had her own food. The server was not happy and made me feel like I was taking advantage. They said that she could eat her food this once but not to do it again, like he was doing me a favour! This is the first time me and my daughter have been made to feel like this and we wont be coming back to a place that makes us feel like a problem! Perhaps, the staff at the Crafty Scholar could do with more training in areas like inclusion.

Great bar, brilliant staff, also the karaoke was ace. The compair of the karaoke was great! Give this bar 💯 % 🍻 Keep up the good work.

Food poor and app service even worse. Food came as picture below (i hadnt eaten anything when taken ) chips scraps and peas cold chicken just warm but dried and burnt on the bottom. Ordered drinks on the app and took ages to come. Could understand if it was busy but 5 empty tables near me all full of dirty plates and glasses Poor

Had an absolute blast last night on a date night with my husband. Staff were engrossed in their work, every single one I spoke to was absolutely fabulous with recommendations and small talk. Spacious but manages not to have an empty atmosphere. The small plates we ordered were delicious. Could not have asked for a lovelier venue to spend the evening. Thank you!

Denied service for food upstairs despite others getting food, staff shouted at customers for not knowing. Staff claimed app was broken meaning I had to wait 30 minutes for a coke after going up to the bar to ask.

Brilliant venue, always packed! Excellent mix of traditional and modern, staff are friendly and always willing to go the extra mile 😁 cries of "Crafty?!?!?!" could be heard from London ;)

A sick bar, Good vibe, Dj Graham was ill. Spoke to Eden on the door, she was lovely and told us about the place. They do food but it was late on so didn't eat. Good premium beers. decent for a night out.

To the Karen at the door I would like to thank you for not letting me in the worst place in Lancaster due to my “broken” ID card So i can get in to Portugal with it but not Crafties I would give her 5 stars but she wasn’t polite and I would definitely recommend her to guard your pub vault anything🫡

Very cheap for students which is fantastic will be returning. Staff are really friendly especially Jacob. Went above and beyond. Will definitely be back.

Just had a great lunch here, served by happy Anna. Food very good and excellent quality, good value for money. Will have to make another trip to Lancaster soon.

Ordered lightbite fish sub with chips for 2 people. Buns rock-hard. Couldn't cut with knife. Inedible. Swapped bun for a wrap. Took plate away. When it came back, chips cold wrap cold rubbery hard to cut. Thought wrap would have been warmed. No butter on the sub. Drink OK. Won't bother with food here again. Poor value for money for a lightbite. Travelled from Barrow for the day spoilt our day.

I'd not been here for years so we were overdue for a visit. Came for a few drinks in the run up to Christmas. It was a quiet lunchtime so not too busy. The place was clean and tidy. Staff were friendly.

Reserved a table for 23rd Dec 2023 for 1 pm ....arrived and no one knew what to do about a reservation and we ended up squashed around a small table ,there were 7 of us ....you took a reservation fee of £35 pounds at time of booking and we had to fight for a too small table as the pub was full as the football was on ....what was the point of booking....very dissapointed

My wife and I called in for a drink,really nice pub,very friendly staff,made an effort on the Christmas decorations,they looked very good,wished we’d had more time,but we were on the way to the bus station,see you next time.

Food was fine but George Poole didn’t like the mash and our Sam didn’t like the Sausages but luckily Zac had seconds yummy :) also you can vape inside which Harry loved!

Great town centre pub, good beer, friendly staff and a great atmosphere!

What a hidden treasure this place is! An unassuming Wednesday night - and suddenly what an atmosphere. Must have been 200-300 people, some in fancy dress costumes, dancing, singing and generally loving their night out. Apparently this happens every week, apart from student holidays. If you love a party atmos, with lots of singing and lights everywhere, get to Church Street. Decent drinks prices/deals too

Ordered from Sin City Burgers. Cold food, tiny serve of cheesy fries with no sauce. Arrived late. Very disappointed.

SIN CITY BURGER REVIEW. As there is no separate page to review Sin City burgers I will leave it here. Our meal was delivered half an hour late, soggy buns, raw onion, cold chips (very small amount for the cost too) and all at a rather premium price. The only good thing was the large patty which was well cooked.

Down for a holiday, had a wonderful lunch today with freinds, served by a lovely young lady named Anna. Will definitely return next time we visit.

Had a bartender spill a drink all over my new 'real' LEVI Jeans. A suboptimal apology was offered and no compensation was offered when I bought my drink.

Great double burger with an above decent amount of salad and bacon. Sadly the so-called chunky chips I was looking forward to ended up being just above barely cooked to look so, and so not sure where the word chunky comes into it. The toffee ice cream brownie I enjoyed was so scrumptious I was prepared to let the high price pass by. The other downer that day is that the staff could have sounded a bit more welcoming, or at least the two on duty that lunchtime. The young woman who served me looked really unenthusiastic - her expression serving a visible hint of 'couldn't you have gone somewhere else instead?', while the other chap just sat on one of the tables, more interested in his laptop that who was coming in or going out. Given I was one of just two parties of people in on that afternoon I thought that they would be grateful of any custom. Please don't get me wrong, they were certainly nowhere near Basil Fawlty levels of hostility but could perhaps appear as if they actually like customers instead of putting up with them.

The person on the bar was lovely and very professional. When the food came though the lasagna was literally swimming in water and my mash was tasteless and watery. We asked for a refund for us to be told they don’t blame us for wanting a refund!!! So the Burger King that we had to go to filled a hole. What a shame!

The food was lovely and the atmosphere was very friendly. The staff are equally as lovely and I would like to mention one of the servers Eden, as she was very helpful and was incredibly friendly to me and my mate.

Stopped for a pint and some wings. The wings weren't amazing (a little bit overcooked), but were enjoyable enough to munch on whilst watching the football. Service was relatively prompt, although the lad who served us looked rushed off his feet. Feels like a Wetherspoons but with a little bit higher standards (it's handy to be able to order from the table). I will likely come back for another pint and some bar snacks.

Monday meal deal ordered - small fish and chips which was great but the small rump steak was miniscule!

I ordered extra(2) sausages with my sausage and mash. I got 3 which implied the original dish only came with one. When I challenged the manager he said paying the extra only got one extra item. On rechecking the menu it clearly said 2 extra. On challenging again the manager apologized and said it was a new kitchen team. Apparent that no one knew what should be served. In addition so called Cumberland sausages were bland and not hot. The mash was more akin to a powered product.

Dirty tables, rude staff and not enough staff on! Cleaned 2 tables took all the glasses back to the bar and said not enough staffin! Told i wouldn't be served!

Absolutely love this place! Come almost every week for a dance and a drink and love it. Great vibes! The music is always great and love being able to request songs.

We stopped in for lunch while out shopping and were delighted that we did. There was a slight issue with my wife's gammon but it was rectified immediately and professionally. I had the smothered rump which was delicious,cooked to perfection. The staff were amazing, courteous...
