Visited today Tuesday 15th Oct 2024 for lunch. Not been here for about 30years. Wasnt busy so got a seat ok. Very good menu and fairly priced. I had a gammon and the wife an omlette. Food was hot, cooked well and was very nice. Our only moan was that the pub was quite cold otherwise ok.

Were there for a walk. Sign in car park says, £1 per car. We had 2 cars, so paid £2. A very rude woman then came out and insisted we pay a 3rd £1 as there were 3 people. We politely pointed out the sign which said otherwise. She was extremely rude and insisted. Dreadful attitude to customers!!! I suggest you park in the village and avoid the pub altogether !

My partner and I attended a buffet with a local Ramblers group recently but were extremely disappointed. We arrived on time to find there was a big queue at the buffet table. I was hampered by being unable to go for food myself as I was on crutches following a pelvic fracture but waited whilst my partner joined the queue. He returned some time later with just one plate with what appeared to be a paltry amount of food some of which I would not have chosen and which we had to share. He announced that that was all there was left. The buffet had all gone. For this we paid a total of £19.00. I subsequently sent an email saying that I thought this was not good enough. It was ignored. I sent a second email pointing out that I had sent the first one. That was also ignored. Whoever was in charge of catering had completely underestimated the amount of food needed, despite being given the numbers in advance. Clearly they had misled the organiser(s) from the Ramblers into believing they were up to the task and were happy to take the money but not give value in return. Needless to say, it seems we have to put this down to experience and never return.

Lovely pub but food and service were shocking. Waste of money. Thought the pub looked really lovely from the outside but once inside it all went down hill. Bar lady was not very welcoming. Looked at me gone out when i asked if we could get a table. When food arrived it was terrible. Dry jacket potatoe with a spoonful of topping. Tasteless runny homemade curry. More like a broth. I don't think the staff have any idea what they're doing. Hardly any customers but the two customers that did go to the bar had to wait an age to be served. Overall terrible, dissapointed and won't be going back or recommending to anyone.

I was prepared to give the benefit of any doubt as the last roast meal was awful soggy veg and reheated potato. The pie I had today was raw and failed to even hold its shape it was disgusting with 5 tiny cubes of meat that I dug out from the soggy mess. I won’t be giving a third chance.

Potentially a lovely pub. However not a nice experience. I was part of a walking group of 13 people. We stopped here for lunch. Some paid by card and some by cash for 13 meals in total. After a while it was obvious there were 2 meals missing. We asked at the bar and we were told that the requests for meals had gone to the kitchen. Therefore they had lost 2 of the meal requests. Although we all had proof of payment the staff refused to supply the meals and 2 of our group went hungry for the rest of the day and it was a long walk back to the cars. A good will gesture would have been to supply the missing meals but it was obvious by the attitude of the staff that this was not going to happen. Initially we entered the pub and thought what a lovely place. however after this disappointing experience non of the group will visit again, ever.

I moved to the village only a week ago. I have been welcomed by everyone in the pub. Sunday last week I missed the roast dinner service by minutes,so jokingly I pre ordered a roast for the following week. On the Sunday I was going to eat my long awaited roast dinner I was unfortunately working. So being the good citizen I am I decided to call the pub and cancel my diner so they didn’t waste food . The landlady Liz jokingly said you have missed it again then Dan. But then offered to plate it up and deliver it to my house next door! So with no payment etc I returned home to find a full delicious roast dinner placed in a cupboard outside my door . Simply a very good welcome by villagers who didn’t know me from eve ! Highly recommend public house . I must add being a real ale drinker as well. The beer is kept in the best condition I have tasted for a long time . Thanks guys Dan

I have never been inside a pub that has so many negative warning posters on the walls! I don't know whether they suffer from trouble but they make sure that you are aware that they will not accept trouble/drugs etc of any kind at every opportunity. They are near the bar, on the walls in the main room and plastered all over the toilet walls. The owner is friendly enough but my husband was less than impressed with the beer and we ordered a combo for two which was OK but was very well cooked! We had gone to see what it would be like for an evening meal as we were staying close by but we decided that we would find somewhere else. As my rating says - it was average, not horrendous but certainly not brilliant and as there are quite a few places not too far away, there are certianly other places to try.

We called ahead to check they were open as lockdown eases. Met with a friendly welcome on the phone and in person. We registered ourselves, ordered drinks and sat outside in the big green space at the side of this charming pub. The draught Guinness and cider were just the ticket on a pleasant summer evening. A member of staff (sorry - didn’t get her name) kindly took us through the menu of homemade pies and we decided to order all the trimmings with it after walking from Borrowash. A great decision because the pies were scrumptious. I opted for steak and Stilton and my friend chose what had been described as a Cornish pastie pie filling. My friend went off to order dessert and my chocolate sponge was kindly delivered with a candle to celebrate my birthday. Everyone outside joined in to sing happy birthday! What a treat. We’d mentioned we were walking back and a member of staff (sorry - didn’t get his name) came over to remind us the light was fading. We finished our drinks and headed off. All the staff were very friendly and the kindness they showed to us that evening will be long remembered. Thank you. We will be back.

I visited here some years ago and found it friendly and welcoming. This was not the case on this visit. The barmaid (blonde hair tied up) was just ignorant. Not a smile. Like we were a nuisance to her. Cracked a joke ....still scowling. She was only happy when she resumed her stance at the end of the bar with the locals chatting. I was embarrassed in front of our guests this was the state of customer service here, wish I'd of stuck to the Risley Park or Bulls Head. I just wanted them to go to a more traditional pub. Such a shame. The rest of the staff were nice. Especially the ones who brought the food out. The food was nice too and the beer. Wont be coming back now though. After 30 years I was in the area again and went for Sunday lunch...4 of us with our little dog. I was so pleased to find that this pub hadn't changed a bit since I used to go there regularly years ago. We had a very warm welcome with and enjoyed a great value Sunday roast in the bar followed by excellent large puddings with custard (apple & rhubarb crumble, chocolate sponge and a wicked stem ginger sponge that was to die for) that were better than I could have made at home (no mean feat as, if I say so myself, I love cooking and usually feel I could have made better food when we eat out). I'm told the beer was good too, so give it a go. A proper pub serving good value food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Another ordered a chicken salad from the specials board but again the chicken portion was more like a sparrow. My husband and I opted for a filled roll with chips on the side for an extra pound but it was more like 50 pence worth and didn’t touch the sides. Its a pub, like pubs used to be, there's even an off sales hatch. Ideally sited for a post walk pint and lunch. Food is basic pub fayre but well priced and served, in the garden, by a charming young lady. But here's the rub, children aren't welcome in the quaint and welcoming bars, you have to sit 'out the back'. Sooo, on a sunny day, The Carpenter's Arms' great feature delivers, the beer garden, almost idilic and ideal if you have numerous dogs in tow. The other rub, being a pub, the opening hours are limited, so check the website first to avoid disappointment. We saw a number of folk drive off having made the trip out to Dale Abbey.

When obtaining permission to park for our Wednesday walk I was asked how many would be coming and said 10-15. I had 30 people, almost all coming to this great pub for food and drink. I know that the staff did everything to make us...

Welcoming staff who accommodated a party of 28 ramblers at very short notice. The menu was basic pub grub and the food was hot. I had the nut roast which was quite tasty.

The carpenters arms is a traditional pub - it reminded me of the pubs of my youth. There was a good selection of beer that were well presented, the bar was welcoming and warm with a nice fire lulling you to stay and I would recommend the Pork Pie - and the home made pickles they were delicious.

We advised the pub that we would be a small party but for some reason including the lovely weather, 25 of us arrived for a drink and a meal. Somehow or other they managed to cater for us all without undue delay. We had a lovely post walk time. Everyone seemed happy withy the service which I personally thought was friendly and efficient.

Had lunch here with a number of friends at the end of a walk. We ordered soup which was only luke warm when it finally arrived and filed rolls. The rolls are advertised as, for instance, a ham filled roll. This is, I suppose, accurate. The large rolls came with the specified filling e.g. ham. cheese etc but with nothing else, not even a couple of slices of cucumber on the side of the plate. Also the rolls were by no means "filled".

Situated in the heart of the midlands 6 mile from Derby and 8 mile from Nottingham the carpenters arms is a traditional country pub serving average "pub grub" meals and has a cl campsite attached suitable mainly for motorhomes due the solid surface of the carpark.in the village there is the remains of a large Abbey hence the name of the village although the ruins are only of the East window the structure suggests this was a impressive building in its day the original 13th century church and the hermits cave carved into the sandstone rock face.all the major road links in the area are within 5 miles M1 A38 A50 A52 and the A6 industrial heritage corridor close at hand

A nice clean pub with a decent selection of well kept beers. The grub was good and arrived pretty soon after we ordered it. The only reason I didn't award 4 was we had to wait an age to order, and then we had to wait an age to pay at the end too.

Yesterday afternoon, we decided to take a drive and see what we found. The sun was shining and we haven't explored the surrounding area since moving. As soon as we saw the Carpenters Arms we just had to pop in. I say pop... we actually ended up spending a good three hours at this pub. Our son was extremely happy there were a couple of swings to play on. The beer garden is well kept and nicely fenced with a couple of gates so it felt safe for him to have a play/run round. The setting sat outside at this pub was glorious and tranquil, absolutely lovely. The staff were welcoming and attentive. We ordered food and thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered. All in all our Sunday afternoon was fantastic, a real treat!... and we will definitely be returning.

Popped in on Saturday night for a drink on our way to one of our favourite restaurants...I'd spotted the homemade Pork Pie sign on the bar & despite being a Coeliac, I purchased one for my husband..he bing peckish decided on eating a piece & taking the rest home.He was delighted when it was brought to our table & saw a selection of home made pickles were served along with it for him to choose from..A jar of pickled Cucumber chunky slices..Also a jar of grated carrot & garlic..Both looked scrumptious & I then enquired if they were gluten free..The landladies Mum had made the pork pie& the pickles & I was delighted to find she had used white wine vinegar..so was ok for me to try. Very nice thy were too..Just a shame the pie wasn't a gf option..But did pass on the details about Doves farm gluten free flour..So fingers crossed, there might be a gluten free option next time we call in..Back to that evening..After seeing other meals being served..we decided to eat here instead. My hubby having a hearty appetite..Had the mixed grill..He beat the challenge to eat it all & earned himself a free dessert..Which looked a very nice sticky toffee pudding..I had the smaller steak version..Was happy to find that they have a separate chip fryer..so could have the chips!.. home cooked chips too..Not the often limp oven heated offerings..These were proper chips! Can highly recommend this lovely village pub..for food & drinks..Hubby was gutted that he'd offered to drive..As Abbot Ale was available..No doubt we will be returning when it's my turn to drive!

More of a farm shop, cafe and petting zoo than a garden centre. This is the quality of hand tools they sell. This fork bent as soon as I tried to use it in soft soil.

Under new ownership Bennetts is transforming back to an even higher standard than it once was a few years ago. The new management have only been there 2 months and made such a difference already. Our 2 night stay was in a recently refurbished room. Sheets and towels were crisply clean. The ensuite wet room type shower is separate from the toilet. The bed was comfortable and we got undisturbed sleep. Our meal in the restaurant was well cooked and not the usual Anglo-Indian palette of flavours, possibly because the new proprietors are originally from Nepal and have run 2 restaurants before. Breakfast availability and some minor tweaks would make this 5 star. Car parking is off-street and free

Brilliant potential with new owner. Willing to challenge what beers they should sell. We look forward to what they do in the future
