Great atmospheric pub, nicely sized and the layout has utilised the space well. The food is very impressive, especially the pizza which is cooked in a proper pizza oven. The staff here are friendly and polite, you can always have a lovely little catch up with Teodora and Maria who work endlessly to ensure a wonderful experience for the customers. Would highly recommend visiting for a bit to eat and a refreshing drink.

We had so much fun, the staff member were great. Fantastic music, food was delicious, atmosphere was absolutely amazing. cannot recommend this pub enough.

Excellent live music venue in the heart of Cambridge. Tonight they featured a new local band called the Blue Tones, went down exceptionally well with the normal Saturday night crowd. Good food too in a nice atmosphere with friendly bar staff good real ales including Charlie Wells triple hop IPA

Visited the pub last evening. Our children joined us too. They enjoyed playing games which pub provides. Had a delicious snacks, pizzas - these were amazing! Great service all the way through, highly recommended.

A warm welcome, friendly service , awesome pizza and a wonderful atmosphere. This is my second time visiting, three years apart and nothing has changed. Just a brilliant pub with a brilliant vibe! Well recommended!

Been visiting The Carpenters Arms since 2019 and up until recently have very much liked it. Since the new year though we have not been impressed. The very same staff, who previously used to be extremely friendly, now seem pretty miserable. Additionally the music is now extremely loud (and pretty out of character for such an establishment to be pumping out pop music to the likes of Miley Cyrus and Brittany Spears). Another thing to bear in mind the pub is now awash with children who have been brought by their parents for dinner, so if you want a quiet pint then this is no longer the place to come to!

This was my third visit for the Sunday Roast and I’m unlikely to return. My fish cakes came swimming in gravy and my partner’s roast beef was mostly gristle. However, my main objection was just how slow and surly the service was. It almost felt passively aggressive. As much as I want to support my local pub, I can’t afford to waste precious weekend time on average food and slow service without a smile.

Nice pub, good layout, decent food, good atmosphere. Overall it is recommended but a mark off for the slightly rude barman. No need.

Un gioiello raro, tra i pub di Cambridge. Gestito da italiani, offre tra le altre cose una autentica pizza napoletana (complimenti al pizzaiolo per la pasta). Ne abbiamo provate alcune: buone, croccanti ai bordi, ben cotte al centro, e vera mozzarella. Locale simpatico e accogliente, singolarmente arredato. Una bella scelta di birre e di cocktail. Prezzi nella norma. Ci torneremo.

This is definitely one of my favourite pubs. I go there with my family on a regular basis. Pizzas are amazing! Staff very helpful and friendly. If you want to have a good time, go to this pub.

We go here a lot and the food is fantastic (especially the pizza!) The staff however are rude, the manager in particular is a bit creepy (always has a lot of time for groups of young women, older customers however are likely to be hidden...

Very pleasant environment serving many gluten free options including pizza, which was delicious. We had the mushroom version with a salad to share. The service was pleasant and efficient and fast (it was lunchtime and quiet). Will definitely go again!

We recently moved and now live locally. We have come in twice for pizzas on a Monday evening (two for one). They are delicious and very satisfying and the staff have been friendly. Great atmosphere and lots of outdoor space. Would enjoy more veggie pizza...

The carpenter's arms has always been a great pub, but I've recently been diagnosed with coeliac disease and am now even more impressed! Gluten free pizza bases (and other options), and really knowledgeable waiters who immediately assured me that the gluten free pizzas were cooked separately (and reassured me again when it arrived). It was very busy, but no need to check with the chefs, didn't make me feel like it was any trouble at all. As always, quick and tasty food and a great atmosphere.

The service was excellent, good food at a reasonable price. Also great choice of music which was loud enough to hear but not intrusive.

The Carpenters Arms serves very good quality Pizzas. The toppings are different from "ordinary" pizzas. We had a Squidward, which contained squid and mussels, and a Lumina which had four cheeses. Mondays is 2 for 1 on pizza. The pub also serves very well kept Charles Wells beers, the Extra Pale Ale was very fine. We met friends here for a drink and had intended to go elsewhere for dinner, but the pizzas kept us. The desserts of Gelato and sorbets were also very good.

This is what a pub is meant to be: quirky architecture, long bar, dogs welcome, inside/outside seating. They also do a good pizza (one pizza is just slightly too much for one normal adult with a normal appetite...which is to say that I could put a whole one away). I took the family, and we all had something we liked--the first time that has ever happened! Grab a seat, peruse the menu, remember your table number, and order at the bar. A real neighbourhood pub that we are already planning to return to.

The pizza is incredible, well done, The Carpenters Arms isn't our local but occasionally we will make the trip for Pizza and a pint, can't fault it!

It's a nice little pub on Victoria Road in Cambridge It's friendly and welcoming and is very clean and comfortable but the meals are pricey for a pub. My friend and I shared a Seafood Platter and it was delicious

Pub has got a fantastic atmosphere but mulled cider is not good and cold with no spices at all. Better stick with regular drinks.

Siempre me ha gustado este pub, aunque no lo he visto muchas veces. La comida es buena y tiene una buena relación calidad-precio, y hay una gran variedad de bebidas que incluyen auténtica cerveza bien cuidada. Pero alguien necesita explicar al personal del bar cómo administrar la cola invisible. No es difícil cuando hay dos empleados detrás del bar y solo 4 - 5 personas esperando. Arrivati alle 8.45 abbiamo aspettato oltre un'ora, ma la cameriera ci aveva avvisato delle lunga attesa. Veramente bello all'interno. Pizza alcune buone, altre meno, nella Popeye hanno dimenticato di mettere gli spinaci... pazienza

Este es un gran pub. La cerveza está bien cuidada y sabrosa. La selección de vinos es decente. El menú está lleno de comida de comodidad a precios decentes y, en lugar de algunas pepitas y patatas fritas, hacen medias porciones de cualquier cosa en el menú para niños. Recomendado.

il mio ragazzo ha scelto questo locale per una cenetta a due... il pub e' molto carino e la parte del ristorante con una calda atmosfera, luci soffuse pochi tavoli... ma al momento dell'ordinazione un disastro...la cameriera gia' aveva annunciato che molti piatti in menu' non avevano tutti gli ingredienti. Provando ad ordinare quello che ci ha consigliato, poi e' tornata due volte per rettificare l'ordine perche' non avevano quasi nulla. Abbiamo optato allora per un antipasto all'italiana con prodotti di supermercato di scarsa qualita' e una pizza arrivata dopo molto tempo e dal sapore incerto, e un secondo di carne ordinato dal mio ragazzo. peccato...

Food is sometimes better than others, but it's usually good, except the odd day. Service could be improved a lot, you usually find yourself begging to order... I've also found sometimes that they put you in a tiny table that you can't even fit the plates and drinks on.... Mixed feelings!

We arrived pretty late for food but just ordered in time. The pizza we had was fresh, hot and tasty. Miles above bog standard pub grub. The atmosphere in the pub was really nice. A genuine local.

Three of us ate on a Friday evening. Some things were excellent - very well kept beer, perfect poached eggs and fishcakes - but others a little less successful - liver only seared on one side, and scallops served without their corals. Not much choice of starter - soup, scallops or enormous sharing platters. Would be interested in returning particularly if the menu changes with the seasons.

went in for quiet drink was asked to leave becauce was wearing h4h t-shirt, i was a serving member of our armed forces, but to get a reaction like that was pants we will be back on mass to ask the question why and you better have a got excuse, i went there in the first place to book the whole hotel and bar for a week, so your loss.

The pizza here is cooked fresh in a pizza oven out back in the kitchen and you can actually see it being prepared if you sit in the beer garden. It's very tasty, beer is good too.

I went to The Carpenter's Arms this weekend with a group of friends for some pizza and prosecco. My friends were visiting Cambridge for the first time and I knew they'd love our local pub. The Pizzas were delicious and the staff were great (Even going out of their way to make us a pot of sour cream). Especially Sue who served us with a constant smile and even played our favorite music for us. There was a slight problem with the card machine the day I was there but spoke to the manager who sorted it for me. Will definitely be back and look forward to taking more friends there in the future!

I went to have lunch with a colleague and the card terminal was not working properly. We pais first with my card and it took forever, they said it didn't work. Then they charged on my colleague's card. We were charged twice for an overpriced pizza. The place is also very dirty and not nice. Will never go back!!!

I visited The Carpenter's Arms with friends few times. They offer very tasty pizza; the dough is similar to Italian. I had a chicken terrine which was tasteless though. And it was the place where I tried absynth for the first time :)

I visited my local a few weeks ago and all was well (well intact not, I was told they have to go and get some ice at 1 pm on a Sunday, it was not busy and where is the mais en place?) However, a week later I went back with my extended family and it was 'not' a comedy of errors. The chef was outside smoking in dirty black uniform. As we sat dow my wife heard him say 'no one is ordering the *ucking beef' charming. We ordered our food and then were asked to go to the bar and order our drinks. Eventually the young server saw sense and took our drinks order as we were sitting down. Nonetheless, it continued. A childs portion came as an adult one, one meal arrived 20 mins later and then was uncooked. Ordered cider and a pale ale came instead. The list goes on.... The place looks tired, dirty and could do with a rocket.

Stayed here for a weekend, Nice and quirky pub with a great selection of real ales and entertainment on occasions. Staff were really friendly and breakfast was good

From the outside the pub looks pretty unappealing, inside is a different story. First a relatively well stocked bar, second an eating area with a good menu. Staff are friendly, the quality of the food was relatively high and at a reasonable price. Definitely worth a pit stop...

Such a varied menu, we were told about the awesome pizzas. Meals were affordable at around £5- I had a belly busting eggs benedict, my friend had a finger licking full english and my other friend had the bed bubble & squeak of her life.

When first arrived I thought I'd made a mistake coming, place was smaller than I expected..when I went to pay for drinks was told they don't accept Scottish money which annoyed me even more after all Scotland is part of UK and it is legal tender...but it wasn't long till this place grew on me staff were all very friendly and food excellent also only 10 min walk into city centre...would definitely recommend this place...

I have been there begining of April with couple of italian friends. We have been looking for a wood-fired pizza oven here in Cambs and finally on google I have found this place.I have been to the website and I have seen a pic of a scrumptious pizza. Arrived at the restaurant we in fact discovered that was a stone baked pizza. The crust was very thin and dry. Not as it should be.The topping tasty and well balance.Not the best pizza in town. Such a shame.Definitely not a pizza experience that I would try twice.Hopefully somebody from the restaurant will reply to this review letting me know why they advertise wood-fire oven while is a stone baked pizza.

Decided to go to Arms for a quick pizza before going out on Friday night.The eaty side of the pub had about 12 other diners there so I wasn't eating completely alone. The staff were friendly and efficient and there was a good choice on the menu. I ordered and the staff didn't mind if you added or took away ingredients from the pizza. The pizza turned up quickly and was large, crispy and well stacked with toppings and very tasty. I would recommend them.

Great food, relaxed atmosphere and really friendly staff. My husband and I had fish and chips today and it was delicious! The pizzas are also really good here, I would recommend the Hoisin Duck, it's so tasty. We love it here, it's cosy inside and very pleasant to sit outside too. I think the prices are really reasonable and the food is excellent.

Called in Saturday evening with a dog in tow , nicely busy with people eating pizzas and chatting a the bar.4 caskales on and friendly locals, called back in on Easter Sunday for lunch, landlady really friendly and the pub filled up with a nice mix of locals as we ate. We had dinner here with our daughter and son in law. Service was efficient though some staff were more helpful,than others. Food was served quickly, hot and tasty. We ordered a bottle of white wine and we thought it could be better if the wine was served in a cooler to,stop it warming up but that was a minor detail. Would definitely return and would recommend this to others. Steak was gorgeous!

Nice venue, but I find a bit rude when I wanted to pay with a £20 Scottish pounds.... Don't really understand the point of of why not, I guess still uk money? A bit disappointment to be honest

We arrived to an empty restaurant at 6.15pm to see if they could fit 2 of us in, to be told we had to be out by 7.30pm, turns out that was easy as there was no incentive to linger. They have had great reviews but we didn't feel the welcome. My biggest issue was I would have put money on the fact that my pizza was definitely missing the stilton it was supposed to have. Apparently it has "melded" but solution melts differently to mozzarella and because of its fast content and consistency doesn't melt away. I feel taken for a silly customer that they could not tel the difference. Mentioned it to the owner who had his back to me before I had finished. The pizzas were tasty.

we went in on Thursday night (05/11/2015) for dinner at 21:00. i must admit that we came a bit late. the person behind the bar told us if we want to eat we need to get our order in quick because they are closing in 10 minutes.the place looked lovely inside and the menu read really well. we were very exited to eat there .In five minutes times the dirtiest person walked in the bar touching his manhood. He was wearing a black chef jacket and tracksuit bottoms with sneakers. it look like he had rolled in a mixture of cement and cow dung. this was not just a splash of dirt it was absolutely disgusting and against the law. we left instantly.i am so happy he came out of the kitchen before we ordered anything. i am sure people will get ill eating out his hands.my advice to you is to get rid of him because he looked like he had a very bad attitude anyway.

Going out for a chat with best friend and decided to share a platter we ordered 2. Salad came unwashed and when complained plate taken inside salad removed from plates and told by the waiter same salad washed so both salads put together already with oil and brought back to us "contamination central". When the food arrived we decided that we would be hungry at the end.The Halloumi was so thin that was tragically funny, and they are getting away with it??? I should have refused to pay, but as a good person ...I strongly recommend people NOT to go to this place.

I've been here a few times, it used to be grungy and bikerish, but now with the pizza oven and b&b, it's turned into something else.The food was good went it first started, but can be less than good. Pizza also has been variable, but generally ok. The service however ranges from ok to dreadful. My friends and I have been literally shouted at by a grumpy dark haired barman who always seems so stressed. "THE KITCHEN IS CLOSING IN 10 MINUTES I NEED YOUR ORDERS NOW".Either the kitchen is open or closed, but some rudeness to customers is never appreciated.

We are at the carpenters most weeks for Friday night dinner. The staff are brilliant and the food is fantastic. My two year old loves our visits as the staff are so friendly and he has great fun with them all. As a local you couldn't ask for anything more, and it doesn't hurt that they have peroni on tap! Brilliant job done by Sue and all the team team

Booked a meal here for my family, impressed by the good reviews. With the bill we were presented with a card saying the management were new and looking for feedback. Perhaps the chef has changed. The menu did not include several items listed on the online menu and one of the specials was not available early evening. Food was uninspiring and sometimes poor. I had a pie with boring mash - and I had an attack of diarrhoea later. Pizza described as poor. Fish not completely cooked and with a lot of bones. Not bad enough to send back but nothing to encourage a repeat visit before the stomach upset.Service was without a smile, verging on grumpy, and the staff appeared rushed.Our student child lives within walking distance and we tried it thinking they might go there with friends, they wont be back.Best things we can say about the place was that it labels some food gluten free and says that other meals can be prepared gf. Pizza boxes can be provided if you can't finish your large, thin crust pizza. Wine was pleasant.

Amazing food and bar in comfortable surroundings with service to match, definitely be going back and can only recommend this jewel of a pub.

Great for a quick bite or a sit down evening meal! Think it gets missed due to its location. We live locally and often pop up here for their fantastic pizza (watch it being made outside with so much care and precision). Warm pub in winter and great for sitting in the sun in the beer garden during summer! Their fish sharing platter is my favourite lunch meal and the stonebaked pizzas are, in my opinion, the best in Cambridge! Highly recommended! :)

Went for a friend's wedding and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Fetching extra strawberries for a friend's baby, bringing drinks, clearing up. Great atmosphere, beer garden was nice. I'll be visiting again another time.
