The Carpenters Arms in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

A warm, friendly welcome to our family group which included two young children and our dog. The service was not only friendly, but excellent! The food was superb and have no hesitation recommending this as a friendly, relaxed place to meet, eat and drink! We hope it will not be too long before we can visit again! Thank you!

We called in here for Sunday lunch on the way past. We didn’t think we would get a table but they got us in straight away without fuss even though they were busy. We were sat at a nice table in the corner, served immediately with drinks and left to peruse the menu. We had the full three courses which included Sunday lunch. Food was very good. Wholesome traditional pub food. Hot, tasty and plenty of it. Portions are very generous. Sunday roast was so good. It included cauliflower cheese which is usually an extra. I had Turkey and my wife had Pork. Meat was fantastic. Lean and cooked well. My wife had wine and it was chilled wonderfully. All in all it was a wonderful experience we would heartily recommend this pub.

We went for a Sunday dinner. I had roast beef my partner had lasagne with chips and garlic bread my daughter had the pasta ham and cheese. The staff was really nice. Made us feel welcome from the start. The food was amazing. I recomme t the roast dinner. The cheesy leak was amazing. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. We will come again very soon. We wanted somewhere for a Sunday roast and found this place on Google. Although very busy, they found a way to accommodate our family group of 7 and we were very happy they did because it didn’t disappoint - the roast was excellent and the treacle sponge for pudding was the best I’ve ever had. The pub itself is clean, spacious and the garden is lovely. The staff were really efficient and friendly. Top marks all round - def recommend.

We were staying close by & turned up on Sunday Lunch on the off chance. The place was full but they found us a high table near the bar which was perfect. The staff were very attentive & food was brilliant. Roast Beef with broccoli carrot cabbage separate portion of Cali cheese jug of extra gravy. Meat was cut thick & perfectly cooked. Dessert vanilla cheesecake with pouring cream. Couldn’t fault a thing. Please don’t listen to the past negative comments !!! Wish we lived closer

Spot on as always. Extensive menu and boards hanging up as you go into the bar area. Gammon was massive and came with chips, peas, homemade onion rings, tomatoes and mushrooms. You had a choice of egg or pineapple to go with it. Steak cheeseburger with homemade onion rings, chips and coleslaw was delicious. Pudding board changes each week and I had a banana split which was lovely with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Wish I lived closer as this place is amazing. Excellent staff and Monica and Laurie are lovely hosts.

Popped in on the off chance for lunch, did not have a table booked but was not disappointed even though it was very busy, given a table for the two of us straight away, with excellent quick service, brought drinks to our table within minutes, we both had the beef roast dinner with all the trimmings and we couldn't fault anything, probably the best beef we've ever had, chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert and yet again, perfect. Couldn't fault anything, setting, service, food, price, timings all excellent, will definitely return and would highly recommend.

Pre ordered table 5 days before and asked for table 2, l was told all booked for you. We arrived 15mins early 1.15, was told table not ready yet, we said no problem we are a little early. 20 mind later the manager said table is ready table 4, even though table 2 was vacant?. After 20 mind we was asked what would we like to order, no menu.for sunday lunch, we ordered our starter and main course , after20 mins our mainscame out , we mentioned that we had not got our starter, so took food back, Manager came up and said I don't remember you ordering a starter, when my Husband said you did not take our order, she was not happy, starter arrived, which wasn't to bad. Our mains came out, which was the same meal we had sent back earlier while wait8ng for starter, my turkey was one lump, all veg was luke warm, l left nearly all mime, my husband ate some, as he was hungry. We decided that we could not bare to stay any longer for dessert so left, when we went to pay, it was bedlam, we decided not to tip. They need to get a few more staff on a Sunday, it seem, get them, get them out. Where patrons are concerned

Visited Carpenter's Arms with family. Order taken. Other 3 family members received meals. I'd ordered cheese burger with salad (not a hard choice). My meal arrived - chicken burger. Server returned meal to kitchen. Over 20 minutes later (other family members finished their meals), my meal arrived cheese burger & chips. I advised I'd ordered salad, server offered to return meal to kitchen. I stated after waiting, I'd just keep the chips. Cut burger in half (lucky for me I did), burger raw inside. Returned meal. Refused anything else due to wait & incompetence. Returned home - starving.

First time here, although I have known about it for ages! Lovely pub, friendly bar staff, excellent food and 2 real ales on, Adnams Ghost Ship and Greene King IPA Will be returning!

Myself and my family (4 people) attend here after booking a table in advance. On arrival the bar staff informed us which table had been allocated to ourselves, she was very polite when taking our drink and food orders . Our drinks arrived promptly- the same could not be said for our food . After 40 minutes my husband enquired with the bar staff how long our food would be - she said she would go and find out . 10 minutes later ( so we have now been waiting 50 minutes for food) the staff member returns to our table and says our food should be arriving “soon” - she said but we do have a “large party” in . When we voiced that we were not happy with the poor service she asked if we would like to speak with the manager- we said yes we would . 1 hour 10 mins after ordering our food the “manager” came to our table with some of our food order . The manager offered no apology, was very rude in her manner and the way she spoke to us when we raised our concerns with her about the time we had,had to wait. Indeed we said that we would be expecting a discount on the food , at this point she grabbed the food and said I will take it back in the kitchen if you’re not going to pay . When we corrected her and said we would be expecting a discount she replied “I’m not in the position to give discounts , I only have one chef on I didn’t know you were waiting do you want me to get your food or not”. She returned with the rest of our food , we were offered on condiments- we had to go to the bar to request further drinks . No staff came to our table to complete a “check back “The food - fish & chips were greasy (poor quality) , hunters chicken , bacon cooked to a crisp no visible bbq sauce , chicken burger came without salad garnish & onion rings within it as advertised on the menu. Definitely the worst service and poor quality of food with have been subjected too . Whilst “the manager” took 10 % of the bill begrudgingly- this does not accuse the bad service , poor quality food and the managers lack of basic people skills - she is just very rude with no manners . Don’t waste your money - definitely not worth a visit .

What a great place to go to. Very friendly and attentive staff from the moment you book, arrive and leave. Great food and my wife is always catered for as she has a dairy allergy, without any problems. Great atmosphere and hope one day to make it our local. Thank you for making us so welcome.

Stopped here for Sunday lunch and very glad we did. Had the roast beef and it was cooked to perfection. Roast potatoes were tasty and we had a good selection of veg. Service was very attentive and friendly. Great value for money as well, so will definitely be back.

Fantastic service from my phone call to book a table to make sure they could accept my dad in his wheelchair. To the kindness of the staff that served us. Praise to the chef the food was really tasty, nothing too much trouble with our requests. we had great service all round. We will be back as they treated my dad with a lot of kindness and we will be back as they have so much choice and smaller meals for the customers with smaller appetites.

After seeing great reviews we thought we would go for sunday lunch. We were seating quickly and drink order taken. But just as soon as we taken coats off and sat down we were asked straight away if we ready to order food when we hadnt even looked at menu. Menu said turkey was on but was told “we not doing turkey today” ok so maybe a slight change in menu, it happens. Roast dinners came out very fast, waitress said be careful of the metal tray the vegetables were in as its very hot. Not sure who it was hot for as the tray along with vegetables were hardly warm. Yorkie was great as was roastie. We had pudding and ordered a “profiteroles sundea”. Now when it came out it looked like some sort of fruit cake lumps and no profiteroles as we use to. I suspected maybe they do it different around here as we not locals. As soon as we finished puddings the dirties were taken away and 30 seconds later a bill put on table. Never asked us if everything was ok or if we wanted anything else so we saw that as our prompt to get out. As we were drinking up, the table behind us asked for profiteroles sundea and they were told “sorry we have ran out we now doing a sticky toffee pudding sundea” which now made sense of what we actually got. Good job my partner wasnt allergic to anything in it. I was dissapointed in the whole experience and it felt very rushed. From arriving to leaving (having only mains and puddings) was only 47 minutes. Great if you want quick meal out. Not for me. Felt it to be more of a older persons meal out than younger peoples.

What a shame the carvery was nearly empty and vegetables cold at 12.30 and was told I couldn’t go up for a fresh helping of hot vegetables? We did let a member of staff know that the food was cold. I also phoned the manager with feedback after our meal. I don’t think we will dine there again. Such a shame

This is a lovely place to eat with a good roast, however yesterday the customer service from waitressing staff was shocking. They were miserable, slow and a bit sloppy. However, worst of all, I'm breastfeeding and my child has a milk allergy so I cannot have dairy in my diet. I said to staff at least 5 times I was dairy free and I was given mayonnaise, a Yorkshire pudding and ice cream of which I ordered their "vegan" ice cream. However this definitely wasn't as my child has a full blown reaction today and is screaming and in pain. This is appalling as not taking allergies and intolerances seriously could be lethal.

Lovely casual restaurant selling pub type food. Had a juicy gammon steak and trimmings but spoiled by the poor quality chips. Good hot crispy good chips are essential What a shame as there are some really good frozen fat chips available

Visiting friends and went for Sunday roast. Although the food was excellent we were disappointed with the amount of vegetables provided. Five of us ordered a roast dinner and unfortunately only enough veg for 3 people was given. Cauliflower cheese only enough for 2. We asked for more and was told she'd ask the chef but never came back. Husband had a little bit of string in his turkey, which was not ideal and it was really dry. Beef however was lovely. The lighter bites option of crispy chicken was ordered and upgraded with extra chicken. They tried to charge an extra £9 on top of the meal, cheaper to order 2 whole meals. They did take £3 off when we complained. The chilli nachos seemed a very small portion too. It's a shame because previous years we've eaten here and the portions have been much larger. I will ask for the veg to be served on plates in future as the serving platter was not adequate for the number of people. Desserts we're delicious especially my cherry cheesecake. Custard on the apple crumble was too thick and couldn't be poured. All in all the quality of food is great but we did experience issues.

We have been to the Carpenters for Sunday lunch and decided to go on a Saturday night to sample the menu. Always a warm welcome and we were soon shown to our table , passing the excellent specials boards. We chose our drinks and then both went for the Goujons to start. Absolutely delicious and a very pleasant dip. My wife chose the scampi and I had the Gammon as mains from the very good menu. Both meals were excellent and mine was probably the best gammon I have had in many a long year. Both plates were generous portions, so much so that we didn't have room for puds. It is a lovely place for a meal as a couple or a group and we will definitely be returning again soon.

First time coming to this pub and the waiting bar staff and chef are all lovely people can't forget to mention you can beat the food they even helped me when my bike broke down definitely would recommend.

We booked two tables again at The Carpenters Arms as our stop, off en route to collecting a boat, this was our fifth visit to the pub and I have to say yet again the food and service was as good as ever. Extensive drinks and food menu plus daily specials. Great choice of gins and beers. The food was lovely and a steak and ale pie to die for. This place is just a well run,very clean and friendly place, also dog friendly. We will be back in 2024 Thank you.

What a find, excellent home cooked food at reasonable prices, a large food selection so much choice, daily specials, had dinner on two consecutive evenings because it was so good, give a chance you won’t be disappointed.

We come here often, the staff are fantastic as well as the owners. The food is always hot, fresh and a welcome feel. Whilst there is no children's menu the light bite section covers a good selection when we bring the children. This place does get busy so best to prebook if your wanting premium times... 3 adults and a toddler ate here for early dinner about 5pm, good selection on the menu including specials. All food freshly cooked, piping hot and very tasty, very good value for money I would highly recommend.

Fabulous fresh food, simple workable menu, with a specials board that offers a good variety so you do not get bored.Portions are generous and the desserts are fantastic. Would recommend for solo travellers, couples or families. The children enjoy the food here too. Simple and effective with a couple of key staff and the owners keeping it ship shape making this our favourite go to.

Visited as a group, the meal was good as was the service. The one thing that spoilt the event was the tasteless Luke warm tea and coffee.

I found this pub on Trip Advisor when looking for somewhere near Kings Lynn and was so pleased I did. The staff are lovely, the food is very tasty and it is reasonably priced. There were 4 of us and we all had different meals and every meal was great . I personally can highly recommend the Stilton mushrooms as a starter, they were delicious and the warm toast spot on. It is also spotlessly clean, which is a must for me.I would definitely recommend this pub for all of the above reasons.

There was nothing overally wrong with the pub just nothing stood out either.Positives - nice food, clean toilets, dog friendly, plenty of parking. Negatives - one worker I noticed like to pet the dogs and bought out dog biscuits but she was also the same lady who served the food. They also quite clearly preferred dogs over children as there was no kids menu so we had to pay over £7 for the smallest fish & chips they did which was a ridiculous size for my young son.Half the restaurant is casual, the other half is old fashioned table cloths and napkins folded up decoratively. Certainly attracting the OAPs!I probably wouldn't return on the basis of wasn't overally kid friendly and just not my style at all.

We recently had a New Year's break at the Norfolk Woods Spa, just down the road from the Carpenters Arms, on our last night we had a lovely meal here and Harvey our server was so attentive, gave great advised on the meals and basically couldn't do enough for us to make a meal and evening enjoyable

If you are after just a lunch time snack you cannot do any better than their home made soup.

My wife and I decided to stop here for lunch after delivering Xmas presents to my parents. What can I say delightful, bright, welcoming and very friendly. The food we had, 2 turkey roasts was beautiful, best roast we have had out in a long while. The staff are a credit to the pub, very professional friendly and helpful, will definitely be going there for another visit very soon. Recommended by J.Southgate and H.Court.

Visited as a group for lunch. The lunch was delayed by some of our group arriving late due to a severe hold up on the A 47. The staff coped well even though another part of the group arrived an hour late. The food was good quality.

Family run pub situated on the A47 between Kings Lynn and Swaffham. Called on for lunch and they were reasonably busy for a midweek October lunchtime. Good selection of beers including real ales. Food portions were very generous, we didnt really need a starter. Quality of food was good. Service was pleasant throughout. Well worth a visit if in the area.

Nice greeting with instant seating, VERY pleasant staff with excellent service to a very excellent meal from an extensive menu. The meal was very quickly served even though the restaurant was very busy. My wife and I had roast of the day followed by desserts and then coffee - all served by very friendly staff.

As always the service and quality was second to none, two of our party got stuck in traffic but the staff were sympathetic and did not rush us. After their delay the rest of the party joined us and had a very good meal, everyone very complimentary about the portion size, quality and pleasantness of the staff.

We were staying at Pentney Lake's just around the corner. We booked here as recommended by the sister inlaw who lives near by and has visited a few times. We arrived early and sat out in the garden having a drink. The restaurant was busy (thought that's a good thing) we sat down for our meal and nothing but perfect service very polite and EVERY meal came out correctly and all together (we were a group of 10) sometimes meals come out wrong or have a bit of wait at other places we have been to as a group. We all planned to go back to the lodge and have a few drinks after but we were all full up from the meal. Everyone complemented on the quality and quantity of the food. Amazing place highly recommended. Well done to all the staff.

We stopped here on the way to our Holiday at Norfolk Woods Spa and liked the feel of the place and pleasant staff. We returned for an evening meal and were pleased with the quality/cost and again pleasant staff. Would recommend for a relaxing casual meal.

Family Get together of 15 before my daughter goes to Uni, had Chilli Beef Enchiladas absolutely delicious, superb, my brother had the Salmon and Prawn salad which also looked delicious. Ample portions (I couldn’t eat it all) pudding looked amazing. Great service, highly recommended

My fiancée and I ate here whilst staying at the nearby Little Abbey Farm B&B.; My fiancée managed to make a booking very quickly over the phone, and our table was ready and waiting for us when we got there.

Have been several times when family are visiting and we had excellent service and food. Last time we took our daughters puppy with us, he got a bowl of water and several doggy biscuits. Would definitely recommend a visit.

After two weeks away on holiday, took the family to Carpenters Arms for Sunday Roast. Service was to a high standard as was the food. A great way to round off our holiday.

Have eaten at carpenters many many times in the past, every time we go back it’s just as we remember. Best Sunday roast for miles, when we do get chance to go out, wouldn’t think to go anywhere else, the gravy and roast potatoes are to die for, never ever disappointed in the quality of the amazing food, not just Sunday roasts, we have been for weekday meals too! Good all rounder... although you must go and try the roast... followed by the sticky toffee pud! YUM! Just thinking about it makes me want to go back!

Went out for lunch with parents today. NEVER AGAIN. Two of us ordered braised beef, mash and veg from the 'specials' board. The beef was inedible, neither of us could even cut the meat with a steak knife. It tasted awful and really chewy.The veg had a strange taste to it. Hence 99% of the meal was left.

I eat here fairly regularly and have NEVER had a bad meal. Most recently I went on the quiz night and had the courgette risotto off of the Specials board and it was epic ... so delicious and plenty of it. A friend I was with had chilli nachos and the portion they got was huge and also very delicious (I nicked some). Lovely atmosphere and always good service. A definate recommendation from me if you're looking for somewhere that serves excellent food for a very decent price.
