I would 100% recommend & rate this as the number 1 best pub in Suffolk. This pub used to be a restaurant unfortunately didn’t take off very well. So the owner Derek (who is a lovely man) turned it around into a full scale pub. With a pool table, dart board & big TV’s and nice seating areas in and outside. I’ve been going to this pub only for about a year or 2. The service is 5* every time without fail. Staff are a o friendly. Even the locals are welcoming. They have a nice play area down the bottom with a swing and a slide to accommodate kids. The atmosphere is always very chilled and relaxed in there which brings a nice vibe in the pub but probably not for business. But overall I cannot rate this pub anymore. Well worth a visit and to recommend to family and friends!

For some reason the Crown have decided not to serve food any more. They have installed a pool table and darts. They will be putting music on. Sad decision. We, as a group, loved going there.

A nice basic menu with a good selection of foods for all - however, WELL worth checking the Specials board - I found locally smoked un-dyed cod (Anchor House, Lowestoft) to be very tasteful.

Called in for an evening meal. Warm welcome from our waitress .We both chose a starter of pate and leak and potato. Both presented nicely. However there was quite a wait. But worth it. The soup was nice and thick. Very tasty as was my pate. Nice size portion accompanied by a lovely dresses salad. Our mains....huge portion of lasagne. Dressed salad and chips and a trio of sausages (good quality) mash.peas and lashings of gravy. Our waitress then brought a bowl of vegetables. Beans cauliflower leeks carrots broccoli and carrots. A real great selection of vegetables. All nice and hot. Sadly we both struggled and could not eat all in front of us. No starters next time. With drinks and a lovely cup of tea the bill came to a little over £30. Such great value.Thankyou to our professional waitress.

Quite disappointing. I asked for the skate...allegedly it was to come with capers in a brown butter sauce, so the specials board states.I received a lump of deep fried battered skate that made it appear the chef was a bit lost as to how he was suppose to even cook it, so covered it batter and deep fried it lol.Lots of microwaved food. My partner had the Lasagna. Over microwaved, freezer burnt slab.Friendly waitresses who were streessed and overworked for the amount of customers.Over a 1 hour wait.

We visited this pub/restaurant just prior to Christmas. We had booked a table for 1400 and arrived at 1345 to be told our table would be ready shortly. The barmaid was excellent, very friendly. We sat down at the table at 1355 then sat, and sat, and sat. Finally I’d had enough at 1445, having not been offered a menu, never mind a drink, I went to find the waitress. The order was taken and food eventually arrived. Whilst the food was plentiful it wasn’t of good quality. The “roast” potatoes were obviously just fried, boiled potatoes and the Brussels were practically raw. My wife had the wrong meal presented but as we had waited so long she elected to take it. However, the food was not the real concern, the beer was awful. Having tried one ale, which was very poor, we tried another; which again was very average. We decided to revert to the John Smiths, which is always a good reversionary option, this was frankly awful! Vinegary and sour.

We go here quite regularly as it is a lovely laid back place and we are never rushed. It was really refreshing to see the new chef had put his own ideas into the menu which although is a nice menu it was time for a change. This has been achieved by a good specials menu. The restaurant was very full and the new chef came out and checked that we enjoyed ours meals, so rare nowadays but a really nice .touch. We visited as a family, at the bar we had a guy behind us spoken to before we were. The server then stopped taking our order and went and seated some other customers. Once served drinks we sat down to order and one of us had plaice and chips, which I can only describe as inedible. The plaice was watery, if in fact it was plaice, and smothered in that much batter we had to hack it off with a knife. Six chips on a plate I wouldn’t really call adequate either. Our other member had liver and bacon. The mash was frozen and stone cold so got sent back. The liver was inedible too which is a shame, there was plenty on the plate but it’s just frozen horrible food. I will say the goats cheese salad was good, but you can’t really go wrong with that.

We are regulars of this restaurant and from last night are very pleased that they now have a new chef. The menu has been brought up to date which is such a relief as the old one was getting very stale for regulars. The chips are now fresh hand cut chips and we had liver which, while being oddly mushy, was really tasty. My husbands gammon was excellent. The salad I saw coming out to another customer looked really good, unlike before when it was so bland I could not order it any more even though I love salad. The prices are still reasonable, and the whole presentation of the meals has vastly improved. Hopefully now we will be regulars for many more years.

When it came time to pay the bill even the ladies on the next table to us told the staff they agreed with our assessment and felt so sorry for us they almost offered us their leftover vegetables. The management could not have cared less. As for the fish, I would not have let it touched my lips. Didn't look like fish, didn't smell like fish. Don't know if it tasted like fish as would not risk it.

This is your average so called 'Pub-Grub' with a large menu, nothing standing out. In a word 'okay', but not on my list for an early revisit. I was part of a large Birthday family get together. I started with Liver Pate, definitely not home made. Followed by Lamb Shank; the Lamb itself was very tender, but it and the plate was only just warm. It's difficult to complain when you are one of a party. The vegetables were al dente, which is how I like them, but they were tasteless, as though they had been left in hot water for a long time.

We visit the Crown often but unfortunately the last three visits haven't been great. First time we were telephoned to cancel our booking as the chef hadn't turned up. Second time we popped in on the off chance of a table and were told that the chef had failed to show up again. Third time, we went in for lunch, I asked for the monster burger which I have had many times before, well cooked without any pink. Burger came and unfortunately was too pink for me, I asked the waitress to cook it a bit more, the waitress was very polite and said she would. After a few minutes another waitress came out and said that my burger will be another 20 minutes but will still be pink because their burgers are now homemade and can not be cooked well done. This wouldn't have been an issue if they had told me when I ordered it, I would have chosen something else.

Had booked a table for five in advance on a Sunday evening at 4.30pm, 3 of us arrived first and got drinks and myself & my sister arrived 5 mins later. There was one large party and two smaller tables when we got there. We sat at our table waiting to be offered drinks but saw that they were bringing out food for the large table so waited for them to finish. 30 minutes later we still hadn't been spoken to so we approached a member of staff who was particially rude. She didn't apologise for the wait or even say hello, just told us that they were out of meat for the roast dinners. We then placed our food order and had to go to the bar for drinks as she walked away before we could ask. I had ordered cheese & potato pie. She came back a few minutes later and said they were out of stock. So I requested a roast dinner without the meat. She then came back and said they were out of veg. I then asked for halloumi (a starter) .. out of stock. In the end I asked for a bowl of chips. She said they had none and it would take half an hour to prep them. She then left and someone else came over, She told us the reason they were out of stock was because we arrived "so late" (we were there the whole time waiting to be served). At this point there wasn't anything else that I could eat (There isn't much on the menu anyway!) So we left. I would've understood if they were short on stock and we had walked in but we booked 10 days in advance. And it was only 4.30pm! Won't be going there ever again.

The two youngster had lovely proper burgers, two people had the gammon stead, egg and chips, there was so much gammon it covered the plate. Our son had gammon steak which was huge, peas salad and chips and a side of onion rings he ate everything and said it was very good. I had battered skate, chips peas and salad. The skate was excellent and so were the chips. My husband then had a piece of walnut cake with cream he said it was lovely. I had apple pie and custard it was the best I have had for a long while. We were not hurried at all and the waitresses were polite friendly and very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They had some of the cakes in a tall glass cabinet which was nice to see them. The dining room was decorated nicely and had lovely pictures up and nice music was playing in the background and everywhere was spotless. The only problem I had was they do not have a website and I could not find out what the menu was like but when I rang the lady was very helpful It was a lovely meal and experience and will tell all our friends how good it was and will come again as soon as we canThank you for a great meal

We are regular visitors here and yesterday we brought our Children for the first time. Children's meals are £4, they had homemade Chicken Nuggets and Homemade Fish and chips, both were a very high standard. My wife's Steak was the best she has had in a long time, the Steak and Ale pie I had is one of the best around, full of chunks of steak. This place is one of the if not the best for Pub Food in the area.

A fairly average pub with a reasonable good value menu. The atmosphere is fair and the pub tends to attract a more mature customer. There are some caged birds outside at the rear of the pub which is either interesting or cruel depending on your point of view.

Having been in a car accident in the Thurton dip, my partner and I got the car all the way to the roundabout near this pub, only for it to break down. We were going to head to Tesco (just down the road) but were told it was shut, so we decided to try the pub.The staff in here are just about the nicest people I've ever met! We told them what had happened and they went out of their way to be friendly and helpful, asking how we were, making sure we had everything we needed, and generally being lovely. We both had their beef roast dinner, which was absolutely lovely, and came with plenty of gravy and vegetables for the two of us. We both had dessert also, and paid ~£30 for two roasts, two desserts, two pints of lager, and a pint of Pepsi - which I think is VERY reasonable!Overall, they made a truly horrible day somewhat better, and both my partner and I have said we'd like to go back another time under better circumstances!!

Popped in for a couple of pints. Always fancied stopping after work. The usual Suffolk welcome wasn't there, exchange was pleasant enough. We ordered the dark and the light ale and sat down on the comfy sofas in the dining room and had a couple of sips. That was it couldn't even finish the pint, either bad pipes or bad beer. Plane pub and dated.

Went in at 2pm because we were hungry and running late. Were greeted with 'kitchen closes at 2:30'.Decor is typical English pub. 1980s carpet, painted walls, brown woodwork. Absolutely no imagination went into decorating it.Food was also out of the 80s. Beef and ale pie had bouncy beef, suet pudding was equally appetising. I didn't suffer food envy over what the others were having either. Veg had been boiled to death. Toilets were clean and functional.Only plus point was the large play park behind the car park for kids.

This was my local about 40 years ago. Boy has it changed. Tonight I was looking for somewhere to have our Friday evening dinner and drove past and thought, why not. Boy am I glad I did. Mother in law, my wife and myself all absolutely loved our meals. Proper Friday night meal. What a lovely change to eat something that tastes like it should, not swimming in salt. The pie tasted like pie, the vegetables tasted like vegetables, and the cabbage didn't taste like it had been cooked in sea water. We tend to go to the same place every Friday but I think I have found a new home for my end of week dinner. Will I eat here again?. You bet I will. Also must mention the staff. Greated at the door with a friendly smile and the attentiveness continued throughout the meal. Gave the impression that nothing was too much trouble without being overpowering. I'm already looking forward to next Friday.

This is a nice pub with a good value menu. Two of the items that I wanted were not available that day. The food I ordered was tasty, cooked well and was a huge portion. We only ordered a main course each but could not finish it. Two mains and two ciders came to £24 so was really good value. There is a large children's play area at the back of the car park so the pub itself was fairly quiet.

This is a really good pub with great pub food - plenty of it and well presented and cooked. The service is very attentive without being intrusive. The food (we both had the sirloin steak) was cooked to our instructions and was accompanied with a plateful of trimmings - all good. The price including a drink each was very reasonable. I will certainly be coming again.

We used to go to this cafe years ago and always enjoyed our experience. Unfortunately today our experience was not a good one. Felt like I spent more time queuing for drinks and then back for food than sitting down and enjoying the experience. The menu seems somewhat downgraded from when we went before (very limited - no JPs or salads etc.). In the counter pastries (sausage rolls and tea cakes) sold out by 11:30. But for us we ordered 2 x bacon, cheese and tomato paninis (£8ea with no salad garnish!). I think the photos show the problems, as one of the guests are in early pregnancy I am really disappointed this grey spoilt meat was served. They didn’t come round and ask how the food was like most restaurants do, so we took the plate up the girl looked confused and took it to the kitchen they offered another one (noting no apologies given) but spoilt meat was enough to put us off and they did complete a refund for the one that was off quickly. Such a shame but to be served off meat is pretty terrible for a well established cafe. Won’t be back, which is such a shame. Note: we are not people to complain so this is a rarity. The shop however is still a lovely visit.

The friendliest staff and best fried bread this side of the Pecos River. The full English breakfast is top drawer but the fried bread wins the prize! Love this place!

We were a large family out for a birthday meal and were incredibly well looked after at this amazing restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff are all amazing and so attentive. Was so good to see Chris back too . They even made a great effort to put my daughters candle on her desert for her . Thank you so much for a wonderful evening
