I expect to spend £20 @least for a meal. Thing is fish ok chips frozen. Lamb curry on bread Not recommended. Lamb well done potatoes very hard. Bread ,just a seeded muffin.. Not worth £18.95. If you are going yo pay those prices for a dinner them pay that little bit extra at the Woolacombe bay hotel restaurant for quality .

Ordered the fish pie that had practically no fish in at all and was filled with rock hard carrots and peas and the sauce was terrible. Promised freshly sourced buttered vegetables which were just frozen so must have been sourced from the frozen section in the local shop. Outrageous prices for no reason eg they’re charging £4 for a bowl of cornflakes or £9 for scrambled eggs on toast. Would avoid at all costs as it’s such a rip off, you’d be better off getting a pasty from the shop next door because they actually look appetising. Awful pie that was probably just microwaved, frozen veg and a severe lack of fish in my FISH pie

The name was catchy, good location. We looked all around woolacombe for seafood and came across this place. It said the seafood was locally sauced. We had 2 take away pots.. one prawns, one seafood mix. I asked if there were muscles in the seafood mix she went and checked and said no. £9 for 2 pots. The seafood wasn’t fresh, tasted like water no flavour at all so definitely frozen. Wasn’t offered any seafood sauce or vinegar. And guess what? There were muscles in the seafood mix. Avoid if you like fresh seafood.

Restaurant looked nice from the outside but inside was very dirty- menus covered in filth, lamination needs replacing and dirt on the floors. Seats were uncomfortable benches with a tiny amount of padding. Food was expensive and not worth what you got. Feta salad which did not contain any lettuce £18 for a main meal, no carbohydrate source with the dish- could have done with some potatoes included. Child’s menu was average and had lots of options with chips. Limited healthy options. Portion sizes for children were good but adult mains were very small portions. Waiting staff seemed bored and disinterested. No booking required so arrival before 6pm necessary to get a seat in peak times.

Decline of a former family service. Illogical to take orders partly at bar and partly table. Means you can end up further down the queue for the already very slow service if you sit inside. Why have three members of front of house staff when two appear to do nothing. We keep returning as we really want it to return to the pre-Covid days.... such a shame. Food also has got worse in terms of both quality and portion size. Review based upon two or three visits in the last 6 months. Overall we have been visiting for 10 years. Great service, and not as busy as we were expecting. Unfortunately this is likely because the quality of the food isn't as high as we were hoping. While the kids enjoyed their pizza, for a restaurant purportedly riding themselves on their fish produce TCT didn't deliver on the promise. Mussels were almost completely devoid of sauce (the best part!), and the battered fish was very overdone (the batter crumbled away into nothing when cut into). Chips and scampi saved the day, but overall unfortunately left distinctly underwhelmed, particularly for the price.

I was told that it was Roberts bread from a local bakery. The scones were light and fluffy and obviously came from a bakery or were made on the premises. Breakfast at the Captains Table, was a rekaxed affair. We were shown to our table and given a breakfast menu, i was a little disappointed to see that there was no kids section on the menu, but the little one decided on pancakes so that wasn't a problem. I decided to go for the captains breakfast and my friend indulged with a bosuns breakfast. The food all arrived at the same time which is a good sign, I think that maybe the use of smaller plates would enhance the appearance of the breakfasts as they looked a little lost, however everything was perfectly cooked and very tasty, but don't go in expecting a huge meal as its not. You will come out feeling comfortable not stuffed. Overall the service was good and attentive to customers requests, a relaxing breakfast to start the day.

Firstly would like to start with the staff, all nice and service was good. Unfortunately that's where the positives come to an abrupt end. For main I ordered a seafood linguine. Portion size was minuscule and the seafood overcooked. Also sauce was absolutely devoid of taste (£18.95.... expected more)! My partner ordered scampi and chips, this was a large plate of food and was of a decent standard. I then decided to try a fruit crumble for dessert. This was without doubt the worst crumble I've ever tasted, the fruit was absolutely overwhelmed with cinnamon and I have no idea what they made the crumble out of. My best guess is they harvested some sand from the beach. My partner had a banoffee waffle, this seemed abit better, but was not overwhelming. Don't usually write reviews but left feeling completely disappointed and over charged for what was substandard food.

Staying in Woolacombe, decided to visit here for a cream tea as there is a lack of ‘tea shops’ in the town. After having a lovely one in Morthoe the other day this couldn’t have been more different! We had four kids in total that all had the ‘luxury’ hot chocolates at £4.65 each. They were tepid, watery and luke warm. To be fair the waitress seemed embarrassed when I asked her if they were made with water, and told me that they were made with chocolate flakes and milk in a pan on a job. Tasted like powder and hot water to me! The cream tea though was the biggest let down. The strawberry jam tasted like the cheapest type but wasn’t bad, the scones were small but you did get two and were nice. The clotted cream however was most certainly whipped double or whipping cream, didn’t have the texture, look or taste of clotted. When I complained to the waitress she says she didn’t know if it was and went to ask. She never came back to me and on the end I had to call her over, she seemed surprised that the owner had not been over, seemingly he couldn’t have given a toss! She came back saying that it was local Devon cream, it would have been very easy to show us the packaging which they did not so I highly doubt it was clotted cream as advertised. Both cream teas were taken off the bill, thank goodness. The place looks like quite nice from the outside but was cold and bland inside with uninterested owners. Avoid at all costs!

We ate here 3 times! That says a lot tight off the bat! Great good, good location and nice service. The surfers breakfast is huge (and tasty) and it's nice getting tea as pots of tea.

With obscene car park charges in Devon it was nice to be able to park outside here for free.Prompt service ,efficient and prompt.Full English was enough to feed an Army so wish they offered a smaller version!!! Young waitress was very prompt at cleaning the tables which isn't always the case in UK.Clean and presentable.Best beach for miles!!!!Pity they allow dogs which isn't for me hygiene wise but very pleasant.

Visited at the start of summer and had an awful meal. We were a group of five adults and were all really unhappy with our meals. One of the group ordered a dish served with peppercorn sauce, but when it arrived the sauce was clearly gravy rather than peppercorn sauce, and the staff argued with us despite the sauce tasting absolutely nothing like peppercorn sauce and clearly tasting like gravy. The seafood platter did not taste good and some of the items were a bit icy where they'd either not fully defrosted, or been in a fridge that was too cold. I ordered the fish pie and it was completely cold in the middle, and was served with some very sad looking frozen vegetables rather than the buttered vegetables shown in the pictures on the website. We complained about the poor quality of the food and did not pay for two of the meals. Other diners also seemed unhappy with their food and the staff were arguing in the back. Shockingly bad

Came down to Woolacombe for the scooter rally. Had an evening meal at the captains table with friends. We all enjoyed our meal very much and the service was great. We will be back again next year, Thank you to Nigel and his team

I was looking forward to going to the Captains table as we tried to get in last year on our holiday but it was too busy. This year it wasn’t a problem as it was empty a lot. Sadly it was a huge let down and we won’t be going there again. The menu available is not the same as what is shown on the website and the options are not as good, quite a let down. I had the all day breakfast which came out very quickly, mainly due to most of it being like warm. The chips were just fat and had been deep fried several times. On the whole the meal was tasteless and badly cooked.

Have to agree with previous reviewer. The place has had a change of ownership since we were last down and we were concerned that it was virtually empty. Everyone was packed into another restaurant nearby. The food is not worth what we paid. Yes it was edible but I don't think the staff ever bother tasting it! The bolognese was very bland. The burger seemed to be burnt to make it look good but it tasted weird. I think the staff and food need a shake-up. We used to look forward to visiting this restaurant but it's gone down in our estimation. Come on, Captain's Table! You need to re-capture that magic you once had!

How disappointed we all were , we travel up from south Wales on a regular basis but our first visit since lock down , menu half of what is was , staff untrained , generally filthy and unorganised , when asked to see the manger he was very unprofessional and had no people skills what so ever …..😂😂 Avoid at all cost

Not great food at all, admittedly we only had a cream tea but for Devon it was very disappointing. If you have the singular cream tea the jam and cream are put on for you, which we all found unusual. The jam was not proper jam, the runny compote type and it was advertised as clotted cream but was definitely not. Very disappointing considering we were in Devon!

Enjoyed a lovely roast dinner at the hele bay pub today. The landlord and landlady were very welcoming and friendly. The food was great so there was hardly any leftovers for the dog who was allowed to sit and watch us eat it as it’s a dog friendly pub!

Sad this place will be temporarily closed for a rebuild from early Nov 24, as it was a great venue! Hope the lovely staff are re-hired for the new place

A proper pub. Friendly staff, great beer, good choice of food and well cooked. Definitely the best place for a decent drink (and food) in Mortehoe. Food served until 8pm. Wide choice on menu.

Nice cafe for a quick refreshment break, cakes look good, and had a nice cup of tea. Dog friendly inside also, but it’s pretty small inside.
