Best fish and chips I've had. I had haddock and chips and it was excellent. I've tried my fair share of takeaway fish and chips and thought I'd had good ones before. But from now every one I try is going to have to be outstanding to beat this one. I often roll my eyes at these best ever reviews, so please try it for yourself.

Haven’t been for a while but love both their fish options, absolutely delicious.

Portions are large but the kiddies size is perfect for me and enough chips to share. I love a curry sauce and it’s al and consistently good. Chips could be a little darker but generally it’s the best.

Loved it beautiful tast and portion size carpark can be busy.

We used to go into the shop in Fremington, this was ages ago!!!! The fish & chips was really good but not anymore. The fish was old and chewy, the batter was chewy and very fatty. The chips were a jumbled mess of fatty old chips. NO this lunch was not cooked to order, There was only us and one other and we waited about 10mins for what???? It was not made to order and if it was it must have been maybe bunged back in the fat to heat up. That;s all we can use as an explanation. The bloke cooking quite frankly is rubbish his photo is on the website. This was today the 20th July. We have now tried it a few times and each the older gentleman was cooking and each time the fish & Chips has been substandard. Old and fatty Yuk YUK we live in Fremington so it is shame as you used to be good. Won't ever go again

Popped in on the way home from work and I must say how impressed I was. The food was delicious. In my view the chips were perfect, and I'm fussy 😁. It was suitably busy for a Friday night but there were plenty of staff on hand making sure everyone felt as if their order was the most important. I didn't have to wait long for my order to be cooked and I was bid a good evening by the friendly fryer. I will definitely be back.

Visited Graylings to order just a piece of haddock. Shop wasn’t that busy, l put my order in , the female assistant told me about 10 minutes would you like salt and vinegar, and l replied yes, so l waited. Approximately 17 minutes later l was called, there was nobody else waiting and it was all wrapped up. When l parked up in a lay-by to eat it, no salt and vinegar had been applied and the fish was well over done (burnt batter). My experience this time was poor and unfortunately because I have visited this business a few times recently and it’s been OK, but £8.00 for a piece of over cooked haddock is not acceptable.

Great food but a third meal ruined through staff not listening to the order, covering my meal with salt again!!! Why ask if you want salt and vinegar if your not going to listen to the answer...

Not a patch on the pelican I’m afraid the fish greasy portions smaller and more expensive not rate it

I ordered food from grayling, I must say the batter on the fish was very greasy and well overcooked like they was rushing. It should be nice yellow colour and crispy. The fish as also shrank in size. The inside was lovely. The chips were nice and tasty but extremely small portion. I've certainly tasted better but also tasted a lot worse. Year ago it was a fantastic place to go, but not sure about now? I'll try again just to see if it was a 1 off but don't think so. All portions are now small and getting dearer. Shame cause it was delicious food at 1 point.

Nice fish and chips but very small compared to other local fish and chip shops. Just gave it a second chance but won’t bother again very small portions and expensive it is a shame.

It's a take away fish N chips shop. It was ok but rather oily. Fish had not been trimmed properly so a few hard bits on the edges - not bones as such but remnants of dorsal fins.

Was served by young girl Amy last week, and she was very polite. Chips were good and tasty. The fish filled me right up really hitting the spot. Homemade fish cakes were banging. Mmmmmmmm yummy. 🤤. Loved the extra vinegar really enjoyed. Definitely coming again love my fish swimming in vinegar..

Been using Graylings for many years, but have to say I won’t be hurrying back. I can’t believe the portion sizes, i had to check my order to see if I ordered a kids portion. Unbelievable price for next to nothing, I appreciate fish sizes can vary but why lack of chips?! I can’t complain about the quality, food was hot and tasty just a shame it feels like we are being rip off.

Went to North Tawton Branch, I was very disappointed, The chips were not fully cooked, and in a small tray, the fish was very small it had been cut and was in length no longer than the small tray, the batter wasn't cooked through & was soggy. Paying over £10 for a child's size meal is a disgrace. Won't be coming back !!!

Waited 10 minutes for a LARGE portion of chips! Even though shop was empty. Paid £4.60. Was barely enough chips for a regular portion .Normally get from The Pelican and large portion is enough for me and my partner. Never going back.

Portion sizes are getting smaller again! I’ve tried to be a loyal customer but I can’t come back as it’s a waste of money now. Staff were laughing about customer complaints about portion sizes and I’m sat here still hungry. Disgraceful!

The food is always brilliant and the staff amazing and the service brilliant the staff are allways fantastic. I usually have a battered sausage. And children's chips. Most of the staff remember what I want but I've been ill for three weeks. With gout. So not been able to drive. I have so missed. My regular meals there. And can't wait to get back there. I'm hoping I'll be able to go on Wednesday after my carving club. Miss all of you there and especially. The food I'd really recommend this place the best cooked to order fish and chip shop. In the area. I go there from pilton in Barnstaple. It's so good. Thank s to you all for the service and food. I am missing it so very much. Bazzy b

I was recommended Graylings by family and friends. After visiting Instow for over 10 years and not trying it out we thought this year let's give it a go, after all it is allegedly award winning. To be perfectly honest we thought it was awful, it was a soggy mess, the chips were undercooked and the battered fish was pretty much the same. We were hoping for some lovely homemade tartar sauce as side but unfortunately only Heinz was on the menu. Overall we were very disappointed with the food and to be honest my local back street chippy near London is far far better. Oh well we have learnt a lesson I guess. Fish and chip shops are not always better by the sea.

Award winning? Really? I paid nearly £7 for under cooked tiny portion of chips, after I paid for a large portion And i got an over battered and cold pea fritter that wasn't fit for eating! Won't waste my time or money going there again!

Nice fish and chips, but £16.50 for a large (fairly standard portion!) Fish chips and peas certainly stings a bit. Since when did a quick chippy tea turn into a £40 meal for 2 adults and a kids meal...

okehampton branch used to be goodbut.... ...one portion of chips missing from order....chips very poor......fish just okay.......will be going to Kempley Road next time

First and last time I will come , yes we are in a cosy of living crisis but £10:15 for less than a child’s portion is taking the biscuit , my fork was bigger than my dinner ..

What lovely fish and chips and friendly service. I'm a northerner used to beef dripping but surprised how nice the groundnut oil. Really recommend.

Great that you can order online 10% off for new customers, and even though I arrived early for the order it was bang on time and fresh as you could imagine. Pipping hot, the batter was crispy without being greasy and the fish was nice and regular size is big enough. The flavour of the chips was nice and I've read they use locally sourced potatoes, I'd say you can tell the difference. As to the accolade of best Fish'n'chips in North Devon, yes they're good, but I suspect that's subjective. Not the best I've ever had, so wouldn't recommend going out of your way compared to your local chippy, but if you're in the area definitely worth a visit.

Always good food, not a massive menu but what they do they do very well. I book food online and it's always ready at time requested.

I had been here many years ago and remembered it being good then so decided to stop in on my way home from work and I wasn’t disappointed, it’s still as great as I remembered! now that I live close by this will definitely be the go to ! Sooo yummy! Amazing fish. And lovely staff. Very good price too. Co-op next door too so you can grab a beer while you wait for your order. They also did click and collect. The dining in was not available.

What a lovely takeaway. I placed my order on line in the afternoon to be picked up in the evening, was easy to use the site. When I arrived to pick up my order the young girl who was very polite was sorting my order out. Myself and my mum had the fish and chips which was lovely. We did share a portion of chips which I'm glad because there was more than enough for the 2 of us. My daughter had cheesy chips and she was more than happy, and she is a really fussy eater. Oh and she had a sausage and normally she complains about the sausages in fish and chips shops. My son had had 2 portions of sausage and chips they where nice portions. As for the price it was reasonable. Would definitely recommend.

Very expensive, very limited menu. Even charge 30p for sauce! Having said that the chips are excellent and cod beautiful and white. I would use again just for that dish. All freshly cooked to order aswell which is great.

Me and my little dog were very hungry after walking on instow beach. We got takeaway fish and chips from Fremington graylings and it was absolutely gorgeous. I popped into order then said I'd wait in the car and come back in to collect as my dog was in the car. The lovely lady that worked in there soon appeared at my car window with our order. I was really touched that she came and found us in the car park ...and impressed that she even found us in a packed car park 🤗 , it was a really thoughtful and kind touch. Needless to say myself and my dog absolutely loved our tea..it tasted amazing. Polite friendly service, lovely food...we will definitely visit again soon 👍

Good fish n chips shop most time parking OK some times busy ate at Fremington quay

First time getting fish and chips from Graylings, normally go to Mr chips, but thought would give them a go. Very busy with about a ten minute wait, got home and they had messed up on the order, suppose to be two cod and chips and a cod on its own, only got one cod and chips, had to devide the chips up. Tried ringing them but answered by answer service with a message about ordering on line, no facility to leave a message. We enjoyed the fish and chips, the batter was just right and the chips where perfect, except not enough, would advise to check your order before you leave. I would get fish and chips from here again, but its quite expensive especially when you get short changed. Mr chips in Bideford is very good and better value for money.

Waited a long time for order of fish and chips once, only two people in the shop. They were hot enough and tasted ok, portions small for the price, I got a tummy ache afterwards. Not to be put off I tried them again a week later and again I got a tummy ache so will not be calling there again. I think the hygiene standards in this fish shop need to be higher.

Lived in fremington for a number of years and always enjoyed graylings. However fast forward 14 years….. Ordered online and still had to wait 15 mins after my collection time. I do not mind waiting at busy periods but I think 15 mins is a little to long when you have pre ordered. The staff I dealt with were polite however I could hear one or two that weren’t. Food was still hot after driving 10 mins although chips were undercooked, sausage over cooked in my opinion and I think it should be renamed cheesy chip as you only get enough cheese to cover one chip! Portion sizes are small compared to other places and a little expensive. Was quite disappointed it wasn’t as I remembered.

Awful customer service very rude lady when i rang up to see about getting some fresh chips as the ones we had recieved were undercooked. Our little boy is spitting them out becauss they are hard. I was very polite on the phone and said that they were under cooked, she replied with oh right i dont think thats right. No sorry about that, the lady who answered the phone was lovely and then i got passed to this lady who as soon as i spoke to her was abrupt and rude no "hi can i help?"We have been to graylings alot and will not be going in the future as we have had quite a few problems with there chips being pulled up too soon. And i will deffinetly be spreading the word about there rude customer service and awful chips.

Sad to change this to 2 star. Lovely fishcakes but chips at £2.55 a portion were rubbish. Small. Sharp, Dried up. Barely half an edible portion from two portions.

Not our best experience of fish and chip supper. Message sent to the restaurant about overcooked lukewarm food and poor quality of chips.

Standard portion was huge. Cod was beautiful, moist and fell apart batter was light. Chips delicious not greasy at all.

Very disappointed went online to view menu saw they had Sunday special 2 cod and chips for £12, as I was passing the Okehampton shop I thought I would order there only to find out the special is for online only, I guess it is different ingredients for online ordering? Therefore people without internet (like the elderly) are being penalized which in my opinion is unfair. The staff seemed very Unsympathetic when I asked why the cost was different.

Got there just after 5, told there was a 7-8 minute wait, thought that seemed strange as there was no other customers around so I stood outside weiting... for over 20 minutes. Massively disrespectful, you could get a decent meal (which this wasn't) prepared in that time.

We have arrived home today at Chesterfield having had a lovely holiday in Devon. I called at Graylings in Fremington at 5 past 2 on wed 15 sept and they had just shut, They opened up for us and cooked lovely fish and chips, They went above and beyond any other chippy anywhere, And the meal was fabulous as well good on them.

Enjoyed our fish and chips from here. First time we have visited.

Nothing wrong with the food but extortionate prices and very small portions. Also had to wait ages due to slow disorganised staff. Wont be visiting again, much better chip shops in the area with bigger portions and lower prices

The food was lovely and not greasy at all. However, they missed a portion of chips that we had paid for. Tried calling them but no answer. Definitely check your order when you collect it.

I don't know who was cooking on the afternoon of 6th August but my cod was thin, dry and the batter looked burnt. I feel it had been in fryer twice. Usually the best fish and chips around but not today. Very disappointed. Maybe you've got a new employee who needs retraining?🤔

Best chips for miles ! The cod was fresh and fluffy and had a great crispy light batter. Easily the nicest within the local area.

Ordered online with a specific collection time. Arrived on time and the food was ready to be wrapped. Was met at the door and my order was handed over by a very nice young lady. The fish and chips as well as the mushy peas...

Our local takeaway and we use it regularly. Easy to use website for ordering and paying online. Lovely friendly staff at collection. Food always tasty and cooked well. We are never disappointed.
