Looking at the other reviews, my experience is not isolated however it would appear that no one at Foyles reads this so I intend to escalate. This is one of my favourite London cafes as an avid book reader. The manager is usually very friendly however seems to run the counter alone which isn’t ideal as customers often left waiting. That said she can be kind and gets to know the regulars. Improvement in the quality of the food needed asap.

As a disabled wheelchair user the cafe isn’t good at all as all. The tables and chairs are all packed together and I’m only able to use tables on the edges of the seating available. It’s almost impossible for me to get an empty table, as there are a lot of people around and I’m not able to move around and people end up beating me to a table. The cafe needs to provide priority wheelchair/accessible tables on each side of the cafe (near the till and the opposite side). Even though the bookshop and toilets available are accessible, what’s the point when you can use all of what FOYLES provides.

Given how wonderful the bookshop is, the cafe is a real disappointment and needs a total rethink when it comes to service. Whenever I’ve been in, I’ve found the staff to have a slow and unwelcoming manner. On one occasion, I ordered a sandwich and was asked if I wanted it toasted, which I did. After 25 minutes of waiting at my table, my sandwich hadn’t appeared so I went back to check on the progress of my sandwich but it was clear that it had been completely forgotten about and looked a charred disaster. I didn’t have time to wait for another one and didn’t want a burnt one so I asked for my money back. The member of staff then went and got another member of staff who asked me to explain what had happened. I did, and she asked to see my receipt; however, I hadn’t been given one. That member of staff then had to go and get yet another member of staff who looked at me with great suspicion as he counted out some cash from the till and silently handed it over to refund me. At no point did anyone think to say ‘I’m sorry about your order.’ Unfortunately that pretty much sums up the staff’s approach here, as although I only got a burnt sandwich once, their general bad attitude has been the same every visit.

I’d recommend you avoid this sadly. A massive queue led to a stale Bagel and a person dumping a bottled drink at me without offering a glass. The tables were mostly busy or loaded with uncleared plates, and neither clean nor tidy. Place needs better management.

There is a lady with short hair and blue eyes at the till and she is super rude and impatient to the point it makes you feel uncomfortable to even try order something. The dirty cups/plates sit on the tables for hours and people can barely find the space to put their own belongings in the meantime. It is such a shame for such a beautiful cafe.. The food is still amazing...

We went to the Cafe at Foyles for a pre theatre light dinner. We expected to have soup and a sandwich, or something similar. They also advertised a cream tea. What we found was no soup, sandwiches that were sitting out on the counter, not refrigerated. Cream tea with clotted cream sitting out on the counter without refrigeration. Very disappointed and settled for a Coke and a piece of carrot cake. Skip this cafe!!

This cafe is lovely and I often work and eat here, meet friends etc but if it weren't for the fab atmosphere and brilliant bookstore I would avoid it. It's hugely frustrating that they never have enough staff and the staff they do have seem to leave one person to take all the pressure of orders and making coffees while the others wander around tidying up and avoiding customers. Slowest queue I've been in for a while and repetitively so. Food is not cheap so the whole experience is lacking.

I’ve been here before and it’s been fine. Today’s trip was awful though. The toilets were really unclean and several were out of order. A sign has been put up encouraging you to only stay for two hours. The blinds had been drawn and not all of the lights turned on so I had to sit at a table in the gloom. One of the staff tried to clear away an iced tea I was still drinking and was a bit rude when I asked if I could keep drinking it! Their card machine was down, which I know isn’t anyone’s fault particularly, but it just added to the general air of unfriendliness and discomfort.

Nice spot quite pricey but the food and drink are nice. Read other reviews of the rude waiter (male in his 40s) and had the same harassment from him - very condescending if you don't buy a drink straight away and he asked me to leave after about an hour due to store policy even though the cafe was basically empty. Will go again but try to avoid him.

The floors and tables are dirty. Save your money and just visit the bookshop instead.

Love Foyles the Bookshop. The cafe is good, food nice. Unbelievably slow service! The toilets (mens!) was absolutely disgusting!!! One of the urinals was out of action with a clear sign taped across it. The other urinal was in service (allegedly) but was backed up to the brim with water running out of the pipes below. The stall was filthy, looks like it had not been cleaned the entire day. The cleaner (female) came in unannounced and removed the bucket beneath the gushing urinal - I mentioned how disgusting the toilets were - she looked at me for a second then walked away, muttering something. To add to this - people come out the toilets straight into the food serving area. When you consider the potential for cross-contamination - the level of hygiene is appalling.

I love the Foyles Café Charing Cross and I use to pop in many times to study and have my lunch or coffee! Last time I went there I was totally out of battery and without my wallet. I tried to charge my phone in one of the plugs available in the Café so I would be able to buy my food using Google Pay. One gent with a grey-ish beard that was collecting the empty glasses (I think the owner) just jump behind me saying straight away  with a really unfriendly tone that it was  not allowed to use the plugs because IT'S REALLY DANGEROUS. First of all  no matter your position its good to show some manners like saying at least "hello" or "excuse me" when talking to someone that you don't know personally. Secondly why are you guys allowing REALLY DANGEROUS plugs in the space that I use to see students plugging their computers or customers charging phones all the time.??? Either the way you talked or the excuse ypu gave for not using the plugs I just can see a lack of consideration towards the guests. Disappointing!

He asked us to leave as well and I saw him doing it to other customers too. Young students at the table next to ours ran quickly to order something to keep the table.

The Cafe at Foyles is a real tempting place to be. I like the way the cakes and muffins are heaped temptingly. The seating has a slightly crowded and confused look, but this chaos blends well with the more conformed multi floored endless array of neat bookshelves. Here's one slight problem. I queued for the men's toilet cubicle just passed the cafe counter, and the queue didn't move. We could plainly hear the person in the cubicle turning the pages of a book. A cafe above a bookshop. It's genius. This place is always buzzy, and very single person friendly They have locally sourced produce, and plenty of it (Jams made in Bermondsey? Amazing). Daily specials and accompanying choices of salads. Always a huge selection of cake too. It's great for people watching. You just pitch up and pick your spot, and with free WiFi, it's difficult not to spend the whole day here. Only 4 stars because their Hot Chocolate is usually lukewarm, and one time I asked for a large bottle of mineral water, got given a small one, then when I asked for a large one got a funny look. Apparently my hydration is suspect...

Un posto molto British, davvero piacevole e accogliente . Caffè americano ed espresso buoni, dolci non provati ma di aspetto molto accattivante . Panorama tipicamente inglese dalle ampie vetrate. Da tenere come riferimento costante a Londra !

The best bookshop in town. Attentive staff. Restaurant has great breakfasts and lunch. Coffee is a bit pricey. Tea - good value since it's a pot with at least two large cups worth. A favourite respite. It's become a regular.

We needed to fit in lunch in between arriving in London and going to the theatre in Tottenham Court Road. Remembered Foyles. The food is that bit different and interesting and definitely tasty. Cost for central London is reasonable. Seating at long trestles is different but it works.

By central London standards the cafe at Foyles certainly isn't expensive. It isn't cheap either, but in my opinion pitched about right. Lunch time can be a little busy so the communal tables are normally full. If you don't want to share with other patrons then perhaps this isn't the place for you. The food is about healthy light bites as well as a selection of cakes and pastries. Of course the other attraction is that it's in the legendary Foyles bookshop. Sadly the current incarnation isn't as charming as its previous incarnation, however, it is certainly fit for the 21st century and worth a couple of hours browsing.

Being limited for time, we decided to have lunch in Foyles after purchasing a few books. We remember the Borders book cafes of the past and they were not great. Foyles is nothing like Borders. It was fantastic. The food was fresh. The staff were friendly and helpful. They cater for many diet intolerance. I have a vegetarian brioche roll and a fruit tart. Both were flavoursome and not expensive. A most pleasurable lunch. Thank you

Rather tucked away on the 5th floor, the cafe at Foyle's makes a thing of local providers of food and drink, and feels like a place where the people who run it care about the food, which is fresh and delicious. My friend loved her soup, and I had an excellent sausage roll. The cakes looked great, and home-made, and worth a return visit to sample. The bookshop is a pleasure to browse in, and the cafe rounds off the experience. When I'm next in London, I'll certainly return.

Cafe on the 5th floor was quite a good size, and had good food and drink options on offer. However, service was extremely slow, and the cafe allows people to sit and play on their laptops so there is often no place to sit for people who actually want to use the space as a cafe.

Really private cafe away from the shelves with great coffee and delicious scones. The aesthetic is really cute too. Very rustic, and there's a cute little art gallery that's part of the cafe.

I love Foyle's (the bookshop). The cafe, however, is perennially crowded (but not noisy), as expensive as most central London cafes and, unfortunately, not really good. Their Chai Latte is without foam and tasteless, their cakes look great but seem stale and only taste of sugar.

Great Service with a smile which counts for a lot!!! Lovely food (too full from lunch to try - but that Lemon and Coconut slice - well I will be back to try that!) and drinks were fantastic. An overall enjoyable experience.

This is a good place for friends get together, for work, and for study. I had lunch here with a friend and had ordered beef with rice. The service was great and the staffs were friendly. The price was fair. It was a pity that the rice was not very well cooked and was hard to chew.

We went for coffee and a catch up after lunch at the Southbank earlier. With a wonderful selection of fresh food and cakes etc and very low level jazz music we had a great relaxing afternoon there. It's really buzzy and busy and yet not too loud. Highly recommend.

Too expensive at over £17 for a sandwich, bowl of soup, two drinks and a packet of crisps. Additionally, seating is always a problem here and was not helped by a rogue tray left on the floor which almost tripped me up.

I often visit the Foyles cafe whether shopping in Foyles or not as the food is so good. A delicious array of lunch dishes from homemade soup to quiches & sandwiches all beautifully prepared on site. Coffee & cakes delicous to. Only downside is it's so good it gets very crowded so be prepared to share a table with students & their laptops!Would definitely recommend.

The cafe itself is has a lovely atmosphere with books, light from the windows or big tables to share. Coffee is very good and tea is OK too. If you want something with your drink, there's plenty to choose from unless you need gluten / dairy-free / avoiding fructose. Then you're stuck with nothing (there's a cake labelled gluten free but it's stored inappropriately so it's as if it wasn't suitable). I'm amazed at such schoolboy error at this day and age.

Criticise Starbucks all you like but serving a decent cup of coffee is the one thing that they do well - loads better than Costa amongst others. The only better one is Roasting Plant Coffee in the Strand but then that place is several rungs up the ladder

Extremely overpriced for juices with basically mostly contain ice water! Charging £7 for this is pure cheek though they were busy so people are clearly willing to pay for it. Very loud, dirty tables as they don't have enough staff to clean and serve, and disappointing they do not have a toilet as they do serve food. Will not go again.

My mum and I popped in late July. Had a lovely milky coffee (trad caff order!) and we shared a few fresh pastries. Staff were polite and helpful and gave us a bag to take home what pastries we couldn't finish.
