La cafetería de The Byre Theatre ofrece un servicio amable y eficiente, una buena variedad de bebidas frías y calientes y aperitivos durante el día. El precio es muy competitivo con otros lugares en la ciudad.

Probably not on everyone's radar in St Andrews, but this is a hidden gem, right below the Byre Theatre. The menu can be quite limited, but the courses are cooked to perfection. The beers are excellent, and the staff can't be more helpful. All in all it's well worth a visit, and why not take in a theatre production after the meal.

We popped in here for a quick lunch. Food was average (although we only ordered sandwiches and paninis) and was served within a reasonable time. The positive aspect was the very friendly and attentive staff 👍😀 There is a nice outdoor area if you happen to visit on a sunny day 😎. I would give it another try if I happened to be in St Andrews.

We have visited on a couple of occasions- mainly because our dogs are welcome. We didn't take them to a theatre performance. We were made to feel very welcome- cocktails are well made and reasonable- food is very nice, not expensive and well presented. Most enjoyable.

Not just for pre-show dinners, the restaurant at the Byre Theatre is a lovely place for lunch, a quiet coffee or even a wee tipple. The food is excellent and the staff very friendly and efficient. Prices are very reasonable and if you time it right the chances are you might get some accompanying piano music too. All very civilised, unpretentious and pleasant. (I'm even nipping in to St Andrews today just to have lunch there on my day off!).

My Experience here was very good, on Saturday, I had a Bud light, Steak and Ale Pie and soup of the day for a total of £15.50, and on Sunday I had to book, though Saturday Lunch Was fine. On Sunday I had a glass of Pinot Grigio (I am sure I asked for sauvignon blanc) £3.95,Soup £4.25 Seared Pollock £13.95 and stem ginger Pudding for a total of £23.90 with £2.25 discounts. The staff were eager to help and see that you enjoyed your meal, and even though the floor was of bare boards, I think it added to the atmosphere and would recommend it.

This was a wonderful find - what food!! a lovely surprise. Our son was playing at an evening performance at the theatre so better for him to eat here. We were so impressed by his meal we changed our booking for the following day to eat here too. The quality of taste in the food produced by the chef was sublime. We had previously booked another restaurant (had to book a month in advance) but then discovered that son was playing for a performance. The staff were all very accommodating while we 3 had a drink and 1 ate a 3 course meal.....and what a meal!! I changed our booking for the next day and we all ate here. Wow!!! One of our party has serious allergies and the staff again were superb. When we visit St Andrews again the Byre restaurant will be our 1st choice. There is music playing but not so loudly you can't hear each other at the table. This restaurant really is a hidden gem. #bestplacetoeat

4of us popped into the Byre Restaurant for some lunch. Three of us ordered a chicken salad while fourth had a toasted Pannini. My wife's Chicken salad came with a wee surprise in the form of some plastic wrapping as commonly found around cucumber, we are not talking about something small either, approx. 20mm by 20mm. How can something that size get on to a plate without someone noticing. Sorry, new staff required. When staff were told, my wife's chicken salad was replaced and not charged for neither was her ice cream dessert. Small recompense as this incident could have had dire consequences. Did not feel that staff were taking incident very seriously. Food was less than average.

On a wet cold Saturday a group of 8 tired weary customers arrived at the Byre Cafe . Far from busy we were advised we could not sit in the almost empty dining area as it had to be set up for dinner in 40 minutes ......... However we could sit upstairs . Up we trudged . Back down to order at the bar . Soup could not be served upstairs ! We could now sit in the dining area AND have coffee if 4 of the group were having Soup . Thirty minutes after our arrival at the Byre ,4 of the smallest "cups " of soup with the thinnest slice of corn bread (do they cut this bread on a bacon slicer ?) were served by the surliest young woman . No wonder they were quiet when all cafés and restaurants in the area were full . Fortunately we live locally. Visitors to St Andrews should avoid and try nearby .

Tucked a bit away from the main own throngs this is a reasonable option for a light lunch and conversation. Pleasant food, reasonable service although a bit lacking in atmosphere as you are eating in what is (was?) a theatre lobby.

This was a nice place to visit we arrived with a booked table on a Sunday. Not a great selection at that time in the afternoon around 2pm food was a basic but no doubt expensive menu. Was not happy if we asked for cooked chicken would take a while to prepare so some had fish others a bowl of salad with berries. It was dead we were the only ones there as it closed just after 3 for anymore food. I personally will not go back as I found the offer was not enough of a selection for me. And with my allergies I had no idea what was inside the club sandwich nor did I know how it had been made. Food was slow and drinks were cold by the time they were in cups.

Good selection of food great service albeit a tad pricey but great place to eat and relax, it's great that you can eat here before entering their theatre to see which ever production you chose to book. Have seen some wonderful events at the theatre and can well recommend it.

We went for a Sunday lunch with friends and family, and really enjoyed it. They have a simple carvery lunch with limited choice but really tasty: starter (smoked mackerel pate, really good) and a roast (beef pork or lamb or veggie alternative) and a super dessert (dark chocolate ganache). The meat was perfect, the veg was great and service prompt and courteous. Had a three course meal for not much money, really quiet and good experience. Would recommend.

Third time this year I've visited the bar & restaurant and third time I've been hugely disappointed by the service. On this visit I assume they were understaffed as there was only one girl on her own despite there being a show on. On my previous visits (as well as this one) the staff had a lack of knowledge of their own stock and the time it took to actually get served was ridiculous. Our orders were repeatedly wrong, as were several other people's which only lengthened the delay. After a bad experience at the interval last time we knew to pre order our drinks, but even that took 20 mins due to the lack of staff. The tables were dirty and the bathrooms were a mess. This used to be a great place for a night out, whether or not you were attending the show. What a shame it's gone so down hill.

This was the first time we'd tried the Sunday Carvery at the Byre and we really enjoyed our meal. The seating area is very pleasant with reasonable room between tables. There were seats free but a fair number of people there enjoying lunch. We opted for two courses and chose to have a main course and a sweet. The carvery was top quality. There was a choice of turkey, beef or gammon. Certainly the turkey and gammon were both very well cooked - nice a juicy and tender. [Neither of us had beef.] There was good selection of vegetables and you could choose the ones you wanted. The person serving was very generous and, after giving us large helpings asked if we'd like a bit more. We both had white chocolate and raspberry cheese cake for a sweet. It was very good indeed and attractively served. There is a bar with a full range of drinks, soft drinks and coffee. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. We really enjoyed the meal and we'll definitely be back soon.

Would recommend the theatre for eats. We recently went for lunch and really enjoyed our food. We had children with us and they catered extremely well for them. Slightly disappointed though that the childrens menu was not available until after 4pm (I think). As it's slightly off the busy streets of St Andrews meant it wasn't overly busy and there was plenty of room for us with several children and a buggy. Staff were very pleasant too!

The Byre has undergone quite a few changes since one of its "founders" moved to the States and it was left, for far too long, in a state of jeopardy. Thankfully, the University got its Act together with a range of lively activities and performers. What's more the restaurant thrives. I had to hang about St. Andrews, awaiting a Service and MOT for my car, and I'm so pleased I chose to bide-a-while in The Byre. The coffee was excellent, the Fruit Loaf very tasty, and the staff very friendly.I shall be back. It's a very pleasant place to meet with friends.

Modern restaurant within theatre. Lovely design, nice gardens and clean toilets. I had the carvery along with some very nice cider from the bar. The chef gets five stars for his great customer service going well out of his way to ensure that I had a lovely meal. He is definitely a credit to the establishment.

Went for steak night but extremely disappointed. Asked for medium steak but was more rare.Few soggy chips, hard peas and two underdone soggy onion rings. No salad as advertsed. Food was also cold. Asked for a prosecco and was told had no cold ones . Was given small one off top shelf behind bar but when I opened it it was completely flat and very yellow so I think it must have been on the shelf a long while! Lady opened big bottle which again came from top shelf so was not cold but was bubbly. Can't believe there was no bottles in wine fridge. Sticky toffee pudding was good though. Seeing as there was just one other couple in the restaurant there really was no excuse for steak meal being so poor as kitchen not rushed. Won't be rushing back!!!

Great location on the Old Course. Beautiful modern terrace on the top floor with stunning views across the fairways to the sea. So wanted to like this place but were disappointed. Food was standard golfing fare - steaks and lobster - OK but nothing special . Wine list reasonable for price and choice. What lets the place down is the lack of management oversight. Tables with broken legs, jet lagged golfers asleep in the lobby, incredibly noisy ambience all overseen by a well meaning but overwhelmed serving staff. Not what you expect when paying $400 for a meal for two. Dinner took three and a half hours. We had to track down staff to order wine, coffee and get the check. Could be a good dining alternative to the Old Course Hotel but its let down badly by the service. Seems its owned by one of those absentee investment companies and it shows .

Had afternoon Tea today(Sunday). The view is stunning, overlooking the golf course and the Forth. We had to wait around 10 minutes and received 4 types of sandwiches, a plain scone and fruit scone and a variety of cakes. The scones were some of the best I’ve ever had- warm from the oven, the cakes were light. We received a bottle of water and large pot of tea but had to ask for glasses. The toilets were a bit more dated than the restaurant but clean

Arranged to meet friends here for a lunch and a catch up. This is a very popular visit with very pleasant surroundings through a very large conservatory contributing to a very well lit area. There are a number of tables within the conservatory and your extensive menu is on the table. There are hot and cold food choices ordered at the server and brought to your table. We opted for chicken and rice soup and tomato and vegetable soup. To accompany the soup we ordered cheese and onion toasties and cheese and ham. We had carrot cake put aside for later that was the last of it. The chicken soup had a distinct homemade stock flavour with generous amounts of chicken through the rice and veg. The toasties came with crisps and side salad and coleslaw on the side. They were very well cooked with a generous filling. Finally the piece de resistance the home baking carrot cake came bursting with flavour very moist and topped with a very sweet icing. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and will definitely be back.
