The food was good, but the gluten free options were very limited. This used to be one of our favourite pubs for family gatherings, but as my wife has to now eat gluten free so it's likely we'll go elsewhere which is a shame. Other Greene King Pubs have better options.

Came for an early breakfast during Covid19 rules. All procedures adhered too. Seated by a pleasant gentleman seated and asked to use the NHS app. Ordered two breakfast, one small asked for for no egg ask if wanted mushrooms instead nice and one normal breakfast. Only difference is small one of each standard two of each. See photos. Arrived in good time well presented all tasty only found the sausages bland. Both came with tea orange juice and toast. This very good value for money as only £10. 90. Well worth a visit.

Sunday morning breakfast is best if somebody else cooks it. Decided on the Bushel on a wet and miserable morning. Greeted by a cheerful member of staff who told us about the rules of covid, good to see rules being obeyed. Clean surrounds and relaxed atmosphere. All 4 decided on breakfast. Opted for no tomatoes was offered an alternative, great customer service. All 4 enjoyed our choice served with orange juice tea or coffee all for £20 fantastic. 4 Satisfied Customers.

Stumbled across The Bushel quite by chance on a Thursday lunchtime whilst having a day trip to Newmarket. They had a large ‘A’ board outside which caught my attention. The full menu was on one side and a special offer on the other side. All looked good so in we went, my wife and I. Greeted warmly as we entered. They had a great special offer on of two cooked breakfasts for a set price which included toast and tea or coffee and orange juice. We both liked the appeal of that and ordered it. Service was quick and friendly, nice and clean inside and the table had been freshly cleaned. The cooked breakfast ( for our lunch, I know ! ) was brilliant, plenty of it, nicely cooked and the toast and pot of tea topped it off nicely. Very pleased all round with both the food which was excellent but also good value accompanied by friendly service. Never been in there before as we live many miles from Newmarket but if ever we are there again we’ll make a beeline for The Bushell.

They were crispy on the outside and nice and fluffy inside. For me, they are the best fish and chips ever. The restaurant itself is lovely and clean. It sometimes gets rather busy. Would definitely recommend this pub/restaurant if you want a good meal which won’t cost the earth for.

My favourite meal there was macaroni cheese with chips and unfortunately was disappointed to see that this has been taken off the menu by the new owners. The vegetarian choices were very limited. The chap behind the bar was busy on his phone which didnt look very business like to me. Have visited this place a few times as a pub - was perfectly acceptable. I had some time to kill on a Saturday morning in Newmarket and hadn’t had breakfast - what sounded like great value advertised outside Monday to Saturday from 10am. That qualified on both counts, so I went into the bar and waited. Some minutes later, with no sign of anyone behind the bar, I called through - no response but a family sat in the bar pointed that someone had stuck his head out of the kitchen so I went to the door to try to attract attention. While there was no bad language used the guy made it perfectly clear that I was a nuisance, he was cooking and he would be through at some point.

This Sunday lunch time visit started bad and got progressively worse. The only table left was grubby, the vinyl chairs split and were too short, made you feel like a child at the table. the waitress was friendly but not professional looking, piercings and such like are an expression of individualism but you expect anyone handling food to appear neat and tidy. Two pieces of the crockery were chipped. We had two Sunday lunches and a fish and chips. The roasts were lukewarm they had obviously been waiting since 12, we went in at 1 30. The veg was raw or in a soggy sauce. The fish had been fried more than once, the batter was rock hard but very hot, the chips also very hot. We did not stop for pud but left as soon as we could. Not recommended.

El servicio era amable y atento. Aunque era un concurrido sábado, no tuvimos que esperar mucho tiempo. Visited Newmarket for a kitchen planning meeting at Cambridge Kitchens. Stopped for lunch in the Bushel pub situated between the High Street and the indoor shopping precinct. It is billed as the oldest pub in Newmarket. Although not appealing to all, I really like this kind of unadulterated old boozer. The decor has seen countless thousands of customers and shows it. However the pubs authentic old world charm is not its biggest asset. Two of us ate and drank for the total sum of £14. Apparently the prices are Oldy Worldy too!

As dog people one of our bug bears is always trying to find a place where we can eat and also take our dog. This pub was more than welcoming to allow us to bring our dog in (to the bar area) so we could have a sit down meal. The bar had regulars in to whom the owners were obviously familiar which created a genuine atmosphere and was a delight to absorb ourselves into. We arrived at around 1pm, we were have a very warm welcome. My partner ordered the scampi from the menu, I had the Hunter's chicken, both meals arrived in good time, piping hot and they had to be one of the best meals we have had from a 'local' pub. The icing on the cake was the fact these meals were only £10 for both, (Menu deal, 2 for £10). The chicken was soft, moist and very tasty with the generous helpings of cheese and bacon. The scampi had also been done to perfection and the chips alongside were perfectly cooked. Can't fault the place.
