We stopped for food and drinks and were surprised by the great selection of cocktails and mocktails and summer-y drinks! It was also not too busy which was great for us and is rare to find in Cambridge on a sunny day. Had a halloumi burger which was very nice. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere and a nice garden outside. Would recommend, we'll come back soon to try more things from the nice menu!

Our second meal at the burleigh arms and we could not fault it. We have been to lots of different restaurants in Cambridge recently and the burleigh arms is one of our favourites. I decided to have my birthday celebration at the Burleigh Arms this year. There were 10 of us and we all enjoyed an amazing meal and service. The communication before the event was excellent and Eunique was an amazing host, she even got me a birthday card. Very relaxed and comfortable venue and all the staff were fantastic. It's the best value for money fine dining restaurant in Cambridge, highly recommended!

Second review (last was 2 star)… Maybe people come here for the “amazing food” but otherwise I really can’t understand what the appeal is. The beers are tied to the brewer (Charles wells I think?) and they are, frankly, awful compared even to what you can get from Greene king. The venue is soulless and the beer “garden” is a beer carpark. Really massively disappointing. They say “dogs welcome” on the door but no water. No treats and concrete for them to lie on. “Dogs suck” would have been more appropriate. And for all this? Almost £7 a pint!!! I walked on to the Cambridge blue and got a lovely independent pint for £4.50 and my dog doesn’t need to lie on concrete.

Fine Dining Pub Writing reviews for the Cambridge pubs therefore entered this pub. It's a pub that separates the bar(with TV)and restaurant area(without TV). It was expensive as a pub but reasonably priced as a fine dining restaurant. Everything was well prepared with quality ingredients. Prepared in perfection. At the same time your stomach would be full after the food. The staff and chef was very nice and friendly. Environment and toilets were clean. I can't get anything to fault. But I would think that it's more of a proper restaurant than a traditional pub. Unlike other fine dining restaurants, it's a casual environment. No dress code required.

Stopped by The Burleigh Arms and had a great time – we sat outside in the sun with burgers, fries, and a Coke. The food hit the spot: classic, tasty, and surprisingly good for the price. We had an incredible meal by Kareem and the team at the Burliegh Arms! We had the celeriac on the chef’s recommendation as it was one the best dishes I’ve ever eaten. You can tell Kareem puts a lot of heart and care into each of his dishes and the quality of the ingredients is second to none. The staff are attentive without being overbearing and allowed us to take our time with our food and drinks so we didn’t feel rushed to leave. In my opinion, for the quality of the food you’re getting this is one of the best value restaurants in Cambridge. Overall I can’t recommend it enough!

Typical English pub in a very good location since it is a little far from the center of Cambridge and therefore not as busy as other pubs in the center. It has a good bar and some tables with television where they show games, especially rugby and soccer. It also has a good covered terrace. As in almost all English pubs, we should learn here in Spain and especially in Madrid, well-behaved dogs are welcome. You can enjoy the very good Madrí beer that they sell as Spanish but that is made in Yorkshire by a Canadian/North American company that imitates and copies our beloved Mahou. Curious. Advisable

We visited The Burleigh Arms during our visit to Cambridge last weekend and had a fantastic meal. The staff and our waitress were extremely welcoming and friendly and the food was superb. Things ordered : • Baked Cod Loin, White Cabbage Rillette, Peanut & Mussel Veloute • Pot Roast Pork Shoulder, Spiced Apple, Hazelnut Dressing •Confit Duck Leg Roasted Cauliflower Arancini, Pickles With Sage Gravy •Roasted Sweet Potato, Sausage Ragu & Pickled Turnips •Pistachio Sponge Cake with kulfi •Chocolate brownie, Sweet Potato Toffee With Vanilla Ice Cream My Cod starter was undoubtedly my favourite part of the meal, the portion size was incredible generous for a starter, and as a huge fish lover, I was very happy. The peanut and Mussel Veloute was the most delicate and delicious accompaniment to the Cod. It was an incredible starter. The cauliflower arancini also deserves a mention, the crisp outer layer and the soft creamy cauliflower centre was perfect. I could’ve eaten a plate full of those. Both of our desserts were incredibly good. The sweet potato toffee sauce was also stand out, I still want to know the secret behind that one. Overall, a wonderful introduction to the beautiful city of Cambridge ⭐️

One of the best fine dining experiences in Cambridge and really great value for money. It's turned into a real gem since its changed hands. The food was unique and beautifully well balanced. We returned to The Burleigh Arms yesterday, celebrating 2 birthdays. What can I say? It did not disappoint. Beautiful flavours, well executed creative dishes and good value for money. We were gifted some dishes to try so we enjoyed a lot of the menu! The special of haggis and squid ink was a nice nod to burns. The cod starter was beautiful. Every dish was a standout. It really was. Thank you for your generosity- we were also given a card each and glass of fizz. The wine menu is good and a good range in price. The cocktail list creative although I opted for a gin martini as I do enjoy a classic. I highly recommend the Burleigh. It's not often the chef takes the time to speak with you and suggests a curry for you to make the next day! I am on it Kareem Roberts Service was faultless too and we were well looked after by our waitress and Tom Arnold A true indulgence in every sense!

Another resounding recommendation for the Burleigh Arms. Between the four of us we had the cod loin with peanut & mussel veloute (knock out), the potato terrine, pressed chicken & pink fir makhani and the sailfish mac n cheese (pictured). Atmosphere was splendid, the staff were fab and the chef, Kareem Roberts came out for a chat a couple of times, lovely bloke. Without a doubt our new favourite place in Cambridge. What makes it stand out most is the playfulness of the menu, you will never eat like this anywhere else, can’t wait to try everything else on the menu, still smiling. I recently tried the new menu at The Burleigh Arms, and it was absolutely wonderful! For starters, I had the potato terrine, which was perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. For the mains, I enjoyed the duck leg while my partner opted for the pressed chicken—both dishes were exceptional. I’d highly recommend adding a side of gnocchi to your meal; the sauce was absolutely spot-on. The restaurant also offers an impressive selection of wines and cocktails to complement the meal. Asked for a cup of tea or coffee, was told sorry we are too busy to do that. Then asked for a bottled soft drink. Told they have none. But then turns out there’s loads. I’m sorry but are we not assuming not everyone is drinking at the pub and try to be accommodating to this? I know you were busy this evening but we are regular customers and were made to feel like we were a bother. Also was hit in the face by the bartender with a plastic menu which I know was an accident but only added insult to “injury” here. Ughh.

I mean the food was ok. You'd have to have not eaten in many restaurants to give it a glowing review. It's just very average. And above average pricing for what it was to be fair. But the atmosphere was dead and the service was all smiles and terribly polite but so plastic it was painful to watch. I came here over a decade ago and was blown away by the friendliness and genuinely welcoming atmosphere. Maybe this sad pub is indicative of our society in general, a sign of the times?

I pre-ordered for 12 adults and 5 kids for our annual Christmas friends meet up a few weeks prior to our visit. I had to chase on email to get confirmation the spreadsheet was received and the booking was ok after not receiving a response for a couple of weeks to two emails. Busy time of year so fair play. Unfortunately when we turned up some of the options selected weren't available. The waitress didn't seem to have the spreadsheet we sent. She gave alternative options in brief but said there wasn't a new menu to view with a description. This was irritating and seemed poorly managed given ordering well in advance. She otherwise worked very hard and was lovely. When the main came one of us didn't receive our order and it came 20min after everyone else even though it was on the pre-order. The food was very good indeed, the goujon starter was particularly well executed. I imagine as a couple it would go far smoother but not sure this is the place for a large group. The Burleigh has always been a nice pub. It's a lovely setting, especially in the big room at the back and with the food as it is - I would go back with my wife to try the new set menu. Perfect after a walk along the river being situated near midsummer common.

Food: 1/5 - choice of roast for the day was chicken or pork belly. My husband ordered pork belly, I am fussy with meat so asked if I could have extra veggies instead of the meat. The pork belly turned out to be the only nice part of both roasts. In order from least worse to really bad, potatoes were okay at best, cauliflower cheese was soft boiled cauliflower with a hint of cheese, cabbage was too sweet, the tiny bits of greens were very bland, the carrots were both incredibly soft and burnt at the same time, Yorkshire pudding wasn't very good and the gravy was thin, incredibly salty and didn't really taste like gravy. On the "vegetarian" roast I asked for, granted it wasn't part of the menu but I still paid £23.50 (plus sc) for the plate in the picture. The difference between that roast and a meat roast were 2 extra potatoes. Service: 4/5 - the waitress was lovely and she did ask if everything was okay twice when we didn't finish our meal and cancelled our order for dessert. We didn't see the point in listing what was wrong and making her feel unease as the issue is clearly with the entire meal. Atmosphere: 2/5 - the place is lovely but it was really cold in temperature. Maybe it gets better later in the day as we were there at 12. On a positive note, the mulled cider was actually really nice. We love a roast dinner and go out for them frequently and both confidently agreed this was the worst one we had in years sadly. Won't recommend or come back

Extremely unprofessional staff. The owner/barman became upset that our party booked a table at the restaurant portion instead of the bar despite only wanting to drink (there is no difference between the two when booking a table online; I'm genuinely confused a distinction is not communicated properly) and said that we were occupying tables that (theoretical) 'restaurant-exclusive' customers could use. He then decided to vent his anger by exploiting my poor mum who did not notice the soup she was buying was part of a set meal, charging her the full meal price despite not informing her of her options when ordering, nor serving ANY mains or desserts with the soup whatsoever. The waitress (who called herself a manager) said "you did not ask for any courses apart from the soup" which is an incredibly petty dereliction of duty, and makes me doubt her qualifications to be a waitress in the first place. I'm very disappointed in this establishment; I expected better from the City of Cambridge.

The Burleigh Arms has recently come under new management and got a stellar new chef, so I decided to give it a chance. Given its previous reputation as an overpriced pub, I was very sceptical but was persuaded by a friend to give it a go. It was so worth it! The new chef makes it into one of the top foodie places in Cambridge, especially within its very reasonable (£30 for a set menu) price range. The chef combines Caribbean, Southeast Asian and European influences to create some unexpected and flavoursome combinations. We were fortunate enough to be offered an additional starter from his current design phase, and now I can't wait to have the smoked fish and avocado mix on the regular menu. Even something as simple as chicken or pulled pork are well executed and/or offer a unique twist (like the pulled pork compressed into a patty). Would absolutely recommend it if you're looking for a nice dining experience!

Nice and helpful stuff, however the Sunday roast was nothing to write home about; kale undercooked, roast potatoes from frozen, the vegetarian option being an iteration of a cabbage side dish was not my favourite, and the gravy was no thicker than water. For the price poor value.

The fish dish at Burleigh Arms carried subtle curry undertones, adding a fragrant warmth to the plate. The spice level was perfectly balanced, enhancing the natural flavors of the fish without overwhelming it. The curry infusion brought depth and complexity to the dish, making it stand out as a unique take on traditional flavors. Starter as the crispy arancini, which had a hint of savory curry spice, the meal offered a satisfying mix of textures and rich, bold flavors. Highly recommended for great dinner night.

Not worth the hype. The autumn menu and bar menu online were different to what was available, despite only recenly being published. Surely a seasonal menu is meant to be the same for the season? Odd and inconsistent pricing as well. Tamale starter: interesting concept, but quite stodgy and served only just warm. Nice chipotle and beetroot garninsh, but very little chicken and the goats cheese seemed to have been replaced by blue cheese. Concerned that we were told that it's not supposed to be served hot, which was a shame whether or not a mistake. Rabbit main: Very well cooked rabbit, tender and fell off the bone nicely. The saffron and cauliflower puree was nice and smooth and well seasoned. Miscellaneous pickled vegetables accompanied the dish, which add little to the dish, and the sauce was so thin it basically just bled into the puree and made both worse. The haggis bonbon was basically a potato croquette which was disappointing. Lasagne main: Great texture on the beef shin, good flavour in the ragu and cheese sauce. Unfortunately, the garnish sauce vierge was very lost on the dish and barely noticable due to it being plated in a bowl so was just absorbed by the lasagna, and nothing else stood out. Don't get me wrong, the main component was great but the delivery could have been so much better from the description. Brownie dessert: Average, basically tasted like a square supermarket portion. Toffee/caramel sauce was a bit incongruous as well. Scoop of ice cream which was nice, but at best an average pub dessert, really unremarkable. Clearly this is a labour of love judging by the chef's instagram, and it's such a shame it's not delivered in the way it's presented. The lighting is really low in the evening as well, so you can't appreciate the nuances. Service was friendly, but average. No real knowledge or understanding of the dishes from the team. It wouldn've been nice to have had some description of the components of the dishes. Starters had no checkback so only when we'd eaten it were we able to mention that it was disappointingly tepid. Far from a 'hot tamale'. Mains had good main components but were far from complete dishes. By the time we'd got the dessert it was time to go. Such a shame as the concepts sound so good but the delivery is just poor. Another victim of aspirational casual dining failing to deliver on so many basics.

I rarely leave reviews. I've lived in Cambridge for more than 2 decades, and while there have been significant improvements, the food scene has mostly been marked by mediocrity due to high rents and staff costs. Some of my favourite dishes come from street food vans. Now, there's a BIG HITTER in town, combining neighbourhood pub ambience with exceptional food and knowledgeable service, and I desperately want them to keep excelling. The menu is original and surprising - meals I've never eaten before, multilayered and beautifully flavoured. The drinks selection is great, with some impressive non alcoholic options, too. We took friends from Denmark, who really know their stuff and simply loved it. This is fine dining without the fine dining price tag or oppressive atmosphere. Bravo! Try it and tell your friends. (I had the mung bean starter and the Gnocchi, and now I can't stop thinking about them)

We opted to book for the 2 course Sunday Roast for my partner and Mother and were not disappointed. The starters were very different to your basic options usually presented with and were beautiful. Lovely presentation, great flavours and perfect amounts. Mains were excellent with good choices of chicken, pork and fish with vegan options available. Again presentation and flavour were great and all for a very reasonable price. Marvellous staff, very friendly and helpful would recommend. We will have to come and try the dinner menu one night. Thank you.

I've been to the Burleigh Arms many, many times over the years and the new chef coupled with the split of pub on one side and restaurant on the other works so well. The new autumn/winter 2024 menu is incredible, lots of really lovely options to choose from catering to all manner of dietary choices. As a vegetarian I had the soup of the day (tomato), the gnocchi and a brownie to finish. It was all beautifully presented and utterly delicious. The gnocchi in particular stood out to me, they were clearly handmade and the sauce was wonderfully garlicky. The wait staff and the chef checked in with us several times to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. It was really cozy and I will definitely be going back again. Highly recommend.

Finally another quality eating establishment arrives in Cambridge. Chef Kareem introduces some interesting, successful twists to his dishes. I particularly enjoyed the salt fish arancini. A fixed price 2 or 3 course menu is a great approach. Great value!

Simple ingredients cooked well and which tasting amazing. Started with the seafood laksa….excellent with just the right amount of spice. For mains we had the rabbit, with a haggis bonbon and the trout which was served with new potatoes. Then the absolute best part of the dinner …. The brownie 😍😍😍which unfortunately I didn’t get a photo of cause it was so good. would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of going. Great value, excellent food and great service plus 3 courses for £30, can’t really beat that!

The food is good but the service is slow and they can be rude, I hope they realise that customer service is more important than the food. Perhaps the owners don’t care much as tourists are always gonna come to their restaurant. Will not be coming back though.

This place is a definite attraction to visit when in Cambridge for a traditional ENGLISH 🏴 pub!! I have been frequently visiting this place over the years and can only say it gets better the pints of whatever you may chose are full of life and never off you can tell they are checked and cleaned regularly they also offer food aswell on a Friday and Saturday only a traditional English breakfast and on Sundays an amazing roast with all the trimmings lovely dubbly :) thank you and see you soon 🤪

Ordered from Just Eat, we have always had no problems with ordering from there and was our favourite indian. However, I found multiple pieces of smashed glass in the naan bread we had ordered. A real shame as we had always enjoyed the food from there but will not be risking ordering it again.
